Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Airplaneman (talk | contribs) at 12:48, 24 September 2018 (Digimon Adventure tri.: Note Appears to be a content dispute involving (primarily) two users, one of whom is User:Sk8erPrince, and another that is an IP range 49.146. Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. VibeScepter (talk) (contributions) 16:33, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. Airplaneman 18:31, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Looks like Dlohcierekim (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) full protected it in August. Unfortunately, this took away the indefinite semi protection, which did not return after the full protection ended. Airplaneman 18:31, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Declined--Ymblanter (talk) 06:46, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. I would like pending changes to be disabled. Thank you. CLCStudent (talk) 21:25, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 4 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 21:49, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Note: Did not disable pending changes; semiprotection will simply supersede pending changes for four days, after which pending changes will resume. Airplaneman 21:49, 23 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Lots and lots of reverts in the page history. EclipseDude (talk) 07:08, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 8 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. This should cover most of the [American, at least] school year. Edit rate isn't extremely high, but it's definitely homogenous. Airplaneman 12:36, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent reverts from IP users; said IP users refuse to use the talk page to resolve content disputes. Sk8erPrince (talk) 08:15, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: Appears to be a content dispute involving (primarily) two users, one of whom is User:Sk8erPrince, and another that is an IP range 49.146.XX.XX (63 edits since 20 May 2018). 5 reverts in an edit war in the past ~37 hours. See also Talk page discussion started ~30 minutes after this RFPP request.
Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Airplaneman 12:48, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism. Thanks Buddy (talk) 08:31, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Seriously? This is the second terrible request I’ve seen from you. That edit wasn’t vandalism, and even if it was, it’s one edit, which you’re falsely representing as “persistent vandalism”. Please join WP:CVUA before engaging in any further anti-vandalism activities, including requests here. (Swarmtalk) 11:44, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Carl Tristan Orense (talk) 08:57, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Airplaneman 12:33, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Jingiby (talk) 09:23, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Callanecc. (1 month semi) Airplaneman 12:20, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. Carl Tristan Orense (talk) 09:47, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 12:18, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP stalker at Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Persistent_WP:STALKING_by_IP_editor_over_various_topics_in_this_year is disrupting my user talk page. Esiymbro (talk) 10:21, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Lectonar. Airplaneman 12:14, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IPs trying to censor sourced information on this dead militant. . DBigXray 10:22, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 12:13, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Pending-changes protected indefinitely. Looks like an ongoing issue from at least 2012. Airplaneman 12:13, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Airplaneman Thank you for taking up my request. Yes, indeed the pending changes was also rightly added here as it is a controversial BIO. regards. --DBigXray 12:18, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed: Persistent disruptive editing – Various editors continue to add the name of a local sex offender. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:34, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Note: @Magnolia677: Given the relatively low offense rate from non-autoconfirmed users, I find it hard to justify extended confirmed protection or even semi-protection. You are more than welcome to request a second opinion on this if you feel strongly otherwise. Airplaneman 12:11, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    Pending-changes protected indefinitely. Airplaneman 12:11, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    @Airplaneman: I wasn't sure which one to request. It's all good. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 12:27, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Disruptive changes and edit warring by IPs (seems an IP-hopper). Wario-Man (talk) 11:56, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Airplaneman 12:05, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
