Revision as of 07:01, 20 July 2009

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Full-protection. I don't if I can't edit the page, but please protect due to a recent edit war on the page when I wanted it stopped. 1 week, please. Make blocks if necessary. —Mythdon (talkcontribs) 07:01, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    2010 Formula One season (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection; users repeatedly update driver table amd driver changes subsection under the Campos Grand Prix heading, citing articles from the Spanish media. Ignoring for the moment that it is only likely the drivers will be signed and everything is only rumour (regarldess of how likely it is), the Spanish media is considered one of the least-credible sources of Formula One news. Request semi-protection until August 23rd when an official annoucement is expected at the European Grand Prix. Prisonermonkeys (talk) 06:57, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Full-Protection. People keep adding a compilation album called "The Singles Collection" to the list, and not a single real source can prove it is a real album. The only sites have info are blogs and fan sites, which don't count as reliable sources. ---Shadow (talk) 04:49, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    I Gotta Feeling (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. King of ♠ 03:31, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I went through the last five or so contributions and most of them were vandalism. A few IPs posted false edit summaries and actually vandalized the article, so I semi protected it for a month before I saw your comment here. Feel free to unprotect if you disagree with the protection. Icestorm815Talk 03:38, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know why, but the vandalism has been so rapid as to make it difficult to locate the last good version. Some kind of semi was surely necessary here, even if just for a day. Looie496 (talk) 03:41, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I just thought that there weren't enough edits per day. But it's a borderline case, so it's not a big deal. King of ♠ 04:05, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection Article being edit warred, apparently by User:ViperNerd who is currently suspended but is using multiple anonymous IP socks that geolocate to North Carolina (see: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ViperNerd and the article history.) I'd like a semi for say, two weeks, as I've a feeling his current 1 week suspension is likely to be extended, or at the very least to the end of his current suspension on the 24th, but I don't want to have to bother you again. Many thanks.- (User) Wolfkeeper (Talk) 01:37, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    The problem is ongoing.[1]- (User) Wolfkeeper (Talk) 03:22, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Fully protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. You both need to stop edit warring. King of ♠ 03:34, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm sorry, you've misunderstood. User:ViperNerd is a notorious edit warrior[2] who is currently blocked twice on two different addresses and probably should be blocked on about 4. I asked for semiprotection, full protection solves nothing and blocks other editors from improving the article, if you put it on semi, I'll completely back off from the article.- (User) Wolfkeeper (Talk) 03:53, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You yourself have been blocked for edit warring on the same article. Semi-protection seems like it would lead to an endorsement of The Right Version. -- King of ♠ 04:08, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All I know is that this guy is serially violating most of our key policies. But if you semiprotect the article that blocks him from it and I will not revert his last edit and I will let the others who are not involved in the warring do what they think is right with the article. If the edit war restarts after he comes off his suspension, by all means do a full protect then.- (User) Wolfkeeper (Talk) 04:39, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-Protection Article being vandalized by IP's and new users. Request protection of at least 1 day, the event has started and the vandalism will just get worse as it goes on. TJ Spyke 00:38, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Looking through the history, I see a lot more constructive IP contributions than vandalism. King of ♠ 03:30, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Yazidi (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

At Yazidi we had one IP editor yesterday, and now another one today. They are playing around with the article, remove some sensitive information (about a recent infamous stoning), and making other minor unsourced changes. Yesterday he slowly removed all references. Something fishy is going on, and my guts tell me you might as well semi-protect this article sooner than later. Debresser (talk) 23:19, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined I'm going to decline this, because it was only two IPs and we don't protect pages preemptively. I do see a possible problem in the future, so feel free to request protection if it continues. Malinaccier (talk) 01:54, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Temporary full protection This article was redirected to Willis Tower (which apparently is the new name for the building) but a number of SPAs with very similar names keeps reverting the redirect. I gather the naming question is controversial, and because there can't be many relevant reasons to change a redirect page (unless the target changes, which seems unlikely), I believe full protection would be warranted for a little while. --bonadea contributions talk 09:07, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
