The channel was initially known as Discovery Civilisation and was devoted to documentaries regarding history and civilizations, historic, ancient or present. On 1 November 2007, Discovery Civilisations was re-branded as Discovery Knowledge,[1] by Heavenly.[2] The channel focused on history, natural history, engineering and crime

Discovery Knowledge +1 launched on Sky, Channel 551, on 30 June 2008. It moved to channel 557 on 20 January 2009 to make way for the launch of Investigation Discovery.

On 7 November 2010, Discovery Knowledge was rebranded as Discovery History.[3] This takes the channel's focus back to becoming "the only UK channel dedicated to factual history", to counter the fact that its competitors History and Yesterday began showing more reality and scripted programming, respectively.
