The album's lead single "Ayo" was released on January 6, 2015. The track was produced by American record producers Mark Kragen and Nic Nac, whom Chris Brown and Tyga previously worked with on "Loyal".
The album's eleventh track, titled "Bitches N Marijuana", which features a guest verse from West Coast rapper Schoolboy Q, was released as the album's second single on February 6, 2015.
The album received mixed reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 46, which indicates "mixed or average reviews", based on six reviews. Gerrick D. Kennedy of The Los Angeles Times stated that "Overwrought with rap cliches, Fan of a Fan is a formulaic heaping of bouncy bangers primed for the strip clubs that likely inspired it. There isn't much here, besides expletive-filled musings on sex, drugs, cars, money and dangerous misogyny".
The album debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200, with 67,000 “total album equivalent units” in the United States. In its second week, the album dropped to number 24 on the Billboard 200, selling 22,000 copies in the United States. In its third week, the album dropped to number 25 on the US Billboard 200, selling 15,000 more copies bringing its total sales to 104,000 copies by that time.
