Mahesh Sharma is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected in the Indian general election, 2014 from Gautam Buddha Nagar. He is a physician by profession.[1]

On 12 November 2014, he was appointed as a Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism[2] and Civil Aviation.[3] [4]

Life and career

Mahesh Sharma was born on 30 September 1959 in Manethi village in Mundawar tehsil Alwar district of Rajasthan. His father, Kailash Chand Sharma, was a school teacher. He did his early schooling in the village. For senior secondary education, he moved to Delhi. He graduated from the University College of Medical Sciences.[5]

He was involved with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) since childhood. During his student days, he became associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Later, he joined BJP.[5][6] In 2012, he was elected as an MLA from Noida during the assembly election.[7]

Personal life

Sharma is a doctor by profession.[8] He married Uma Sharma on 22 January 1987.[1] Uma Sharma is an gynecologist. She is the head of the department of obstetrics and gynaecologist at the Kailash Hospital and Heart Institute. She is also the vice chairperson of the Kailash Healthcare group.[5] He has a daughter, Pallavi, and a son, Kartik, both them are also medical professionals.[5]
