AfD

Hi Ceradon!

You seem to have jumped into AfD pretty heavily in the last couple of days. Which is good! AfD could use all the attention it can with the massive amount of nominations per day. However, you seem to be trying to get involved in quasi-administrative tasks such as relisting and closing debates, which isn't so great given your inexperience. If you don't mind, I'll try to give you some pointers in the most respectful way possible, and then ask that you refrain from the admin tasks until you've built up some more solid experience at AfD by restricting yourself to !voting.

First, per WP:REDIRECT, a debate generally shouldn't be relisted more than twice without good reason and accompanied by a relisting statement (i.e. relisting to raise consensus on a redirect/merge target after rough consensus is established to do so, or because an editor has recently found a bunch of new sources on the subject.) A discussion with little-to-no discussion after two relistings should generally be closed as no consensus with no prejudice against speedy renomination; this is to keep AfD from getting bogged-down with low-traffic month-old discussions. You should also not !vote on AfDs that you either have relisted or will relist. As you are WP:INVOLVED in the debate, you are no longer a neutral party and therefore incapable of carrying out a relist without introducing bias. Although this should go without saying, this should especially apply to closing debates (even though you technically didn't execute the deletion, you are still involved and should let a completely uninvolved party complete the process.) Per WP:BADNAC, Non-admin closure is not appropriate in any of the following situations: (1) The non-admin has demonstrated a potential conflict of interest, or lack of impartiality, by having expressed an opinion in the discussion or being otherwise involved, with the exception of closing their own withdrawn nomination as a speedy keep when all other viewpoints expressed were for keep as well.

On a related note, you should generally not try to close AfDs unless an obvious consensus has been achieved and you have the technical ability to do so yourself, meaning closing as delete. (The latter is currently being debated but still very contentious.) An administrator closing discussions is a matter of judgement about a rough consensus in the discussion. As a non-admin, you don't have that trust vested in you by the community; thus, you shouldn't make any closures where judgement and evaluation of consensus is required. Per WP:NAD, Extra care should be taken if a closure may be controversial or not clearly unambiguous. With the understanding that the closure may be reversed, non-admins should generally avoid closing such discussions.

Finally, and I mean this respectfully, you just don't have the experience at AfD to be able to close discussions knowledgeably. For example, you don't seem to entirely understand the requirements to speedy keep, including your own nominations. Of your twelve delete !votes on closed discussions, only half of them closed as such. All of these things, combined with your lack of understanding of closing guidelines, illustrates that you are new to AfD, and inexperienced.

None of these are bad things! The only way to gain experience at AfD is to !vote at AfD and view plenty of deletion discussions. However, I really hope you agree that relisting and closing discussions isn't for you yet. I'm not trying to condescend whatsoever, but those are roles that are better left to admins and experienced AfD editors. I really hope you stick around AfD, but your best area of productivity right now would be in participating in discussions, not maintaining and closing them.

Must have been one hell of a misclick. Anyways, delsorting is fine, even in discussions you !vote in; all delsorting is is bringing a discussion to the attention of editors with a specific interest. T:TDYK notices

Re:

It is not helpful for DYK to know who the original page creator is on a 5x expansion, since the DYK nomination only concerns the 5x expander. The original page creator is never notified of the DYK nomination, only the 5x expander. If the latter editor is blocked, the DYK reviewer will spot that pretty quickly. • The edits made were made with clear consensus by the community. I withdrew my request because I thought it would be controversial. There is still another bot that will do the exact same task Cerabot did. (edit conflict) I appreciate that you're trying to help out but I don't think there was a requirement to notify editors on the DYK nomination. When I read a nomination I don't need to consider who it credits, so those notices just end up being spammy as I try to review. APersonBot notifies user talkpages without tagging the nomination template.

On another issue, the bot seems to be notifying the original article creators rather than those named on the nomination template. If you go through the original bot request, it asks for a notification system based on the Template:DYKmake - not the article history. So we now have random editors showing up confused, having created forgotten redirects or pages moves months ago but otherwise unaffiliated with the article.

I'm not sure if this is deliberate, but the bot notified me as a page creator despite the fact that I just moved the page- the article had existed for a while at a title with alternative capitalisation (as is now common in bird articles). J Milburn (talk) 18:20, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

The comment at the AFD earlier today

Hi, I don't want to start any sort of argument with you, and of course you are correct that there are many possible factors for them not contributing any further. But I would just like to clarify a point in case we come across each other again. I said that I thought the swearing was unnecessary "in the circumstances". I know that wikipedia is not censored, and I am ceratinly not troubled by swearing myself. I just thought it was a bit unwarranted towards a new user.
Now, if you had told someone to "fuck off" after they stuck their nose into an issue that was already a couple of weeks cold, I would totally support you on that. :)
Finally, I hope that you can see the amusement in this happening on a page concerning a television show called "Total Drama". AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 05:25, 16 January 2015 (UTC)

Ceradon, I'm trying to figure out how you could even have seen Top Totty. The nomination template had been moved to the April Fools Day page (and deleted on the main DYK nominations page) back on January 18. @BlueMoonset: I did stay on T:TDYK. Was looking at Mary Brodric entry and haphazardly clicked the QPQ link to check if the QPQ was done and thought "wow, Top Totty would be pretty cool to promote" and subsequently went frolicking to T:DYK/P1. Okay, let's put it another way: if you're get to the nomination page via the QPQ or some other non-standard method, instead of viewing it directly on the T:TDYK page from a transclusion there, it's important that you reconfirm that the transcluded nomination can still be seen directly on T:TDYK before promoting it. Please keep in mind that these don't have any automatic updates and if you download and start using nightly build, you will need to update it yourself! So don't get yourself to running old version, it's possible to install both stable and nightly huggle, which is what I suggest.

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia, first of all,

Here are some pointers I'd like to give you on the article:

• Wikipedia has a very strict policy on articles on living people (as they might contest or object to the content of their articles). Therefore everything must be cited. You must provide a reference the information in the Maroon article and you should only put information in the article that is provided by an independent, neutral source that a reasonable person would deem reliable. This is a must. Additionally, articles can only state what's in the source.
• State the facts and let the reader develop their own opinion about whether or not he's an expert. Instead of saying: "John Smith is an expert in the field of sports medicine," say, "John Smith has worked extensively in the field of sports medicine for fourteen years, having published 500 papers on various topics related to the area, more than half of which has been cited in peer-reviewed journals and other medical literature." The latter will have more of an effect on the reader. Outright telling them he's an expert does nothing to educate Wikipedia's readers, but telling them why he might be considered an expert increases the credibility of the article.
• You must give equal weight to all sides of an argument, or, in this case, all viewpoints of a person. Focusing on the good and giving only passing mentions to the bad doesn't work. Nobody's perfect. Trying to portray someone as Mother Teresa when they're not will hurt or destroy the credibility of your article in the eyes of the reader.
• Articles must not be written like an autobiography. Present the facts, not conjecture or speculation. You seem to have a close connection to Maroon (you said "we" several times and the creator of the draft bears the name of Maroon as their screen name). There is nothing inherently wrong with that (but you should declare it as a potential conflict of interest). However, as I stated above, you must must, must, must remain neutral. We are here to write facts and give all viewpoints of a topic, not opine and speculate, especially not on the biography of a living person.

I hope this helps. I'd also like to say this: don't worry about making mistakes. We all do. However, intransigence, an unwillingness to change you viewpoints or consider others, is the easiest way to being shoved off into the abyss of irrelevance in this community. Nevertheless, be bold and break things. You'll learn quicker this way. My talk page is always open. Knock on my door any time you like. I'd be happy to help you. BridgeCity album proposed deletion

The album BridgeCity is proposed for deletion.

However, I request it be considered to remove this proposed deletion by yourself. The album has been reviewed by a professional review site (New Release Tuesday) and its release was given coverage by a few professional music sites (like Jesus Freak Hideout). I've seen plenty of articles much worse off than this, with less coverage and sources to boot, yet they aren't being threatened.

I was hoping to add something along the lines of "the brothel is a two-story brick structure with a raised basement. The first and second floors are pierced by a large light well or atrium, surrounded by balconies ..." All of this is eminently true, but it's based on my personal observation, and is not citeable in a Good Article. The website can't support such a detailed description.
