False editing being done against Shia Politicians articles

Well i am very concerned over the view that some editor's are continuously editing the articles about SHIA Muslim Politician of Pakistan, they are trying to conceal the facts by adding false information or simply removing the proved documentation mentioned in those articles about them being Shia Muslims. As a NPOV, i request you to stop or message such editors who usually edit the articles of Shia Muslims in Pakistan, specifically of Muhammed Ali Jinnah,Fatima Jinnah,Benazir Bhutto,Asif Ali Zardari,Yahya Khan,Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,Fatima Bhutto,Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Yusuf Raza Gillani, they all are surely Shia Pakistanis. Many of them remained silent on their religious point of views of being Shia,it doesn't mean they aren't! I can provided 100% concrete evidence of all of them being Shia Muslims! And so far i had,but all has been removed by some one or the other! As wikipedia is a Biographical encyclopedia then why they aren't mentioning some real facts,so that the people reading these articles could know well about them. Please take action against these false editing.

Pakistani FA or GA

Is there any way to identify which articles that are tagged with WP Pakistan and are listed as either FA or GA? --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 00:58, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

See Category:FA-Class Pakistan articles and Category:GA-Class Pakistan articles. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:15, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
For a complete list of quality classes, see this table. Regards, Ganeshk (talk) 01:17, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Ah, right. I forgot about the table. Thanks! --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 01:36, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

Shamefully enough, the author of this article Sonia Ahmed or Sonisona (talk), who happens to be the president of the firm for which the article is written, is slanted towards her biased point-of-view and is preventing the article from growing organically. Please view the article in its current state and check out its history in which all possible good edits have been reverted or reworded to impose her point-of-view. I have suggested deleting the article to let the author know of her deeds. What do you guys suggest? Arun Reginald (talk · contribs) 10:00, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I would vote for deletion but it would be difficult since the article has some proper sources. From my past experience nominating it for deletion because of a NPOV issues, never works out. Plus there are other two editors working on it. The best option would be to get the editors to remove the POV and add more sources. --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 23:31, 11 June 2008 (UTC)
Problem is, the two editors that you mention have tried to edit the article and remove all the POV but the author retains the POV-orientation. You've seen the article and check after a while when Sonisona (talk) has made her changes. It'll all come back to being all sweet and full of that oh-so-boring POV. Arun Reginald (talk · contribs) 23:50, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

I would like to point out that, per WP:COI, people affiliated with the organization, especially its president, are NOT at all supposed to edit the article. Please add a note at WP:ANB. --Ragib (talk) 05:12, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

This article has now been nominated for deletion via AFD at it's deletion entry. Please feel free to nominate your choice. Arun Reginald (talk · contribs) 20:30, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Road to FA

For the past few days, I have been looking into biographical stubs. I have realised with patience, diligence and research, one can include content by five-fold in such articles to make it acceptable for DYKs submitted here.

What I suggest here is that we should all spot such articles or any newly created article and enrich them with sourced facts and submit in to DYKs on a regular basis. Once that is done, the articles can be declared a certain share of notability and then can be converted into B-Class by adding some more content. peaceUllukapatha (talk) 10:58, 4 March 2009 (UTC) This worked pretty well with the following articles I worked on:

  1. Ayesha Omar
  2. Yasmeen Ghauri
  3. Veena Malik
  4. Vaneeza Ahmad
  5. Strings (band)

..and I found out that once they are submitted to the DYKs, authors outside of this WikiProject also try to fix basic errors in articles. I must say I pretty pleased with the above articles and would suggest every project member to write articles in this way. At least, all biographical articles should have one DYK associated to it. Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 1094 of the articles assigned to this project, or 24.5%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 18 June 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subsribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 17:25, 3 July 2008 (UTC)

This is really useful. I suggest we update/replace the current 'To Do List' page, as it does refer to the cleanup issues. Exiting contents of the page can be moved to other relevant pages.--IslesCapeTalk 15:44, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! For the 1.0 Editorial Team, §hepBot (Disable) 21:12, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your kind notice, Shep. I have added the C-Class in the Wikipedia banner for this project such that if the B-Class criteria is not fulfilled then the C-Class automatically appears. Thanks, Arun Reginald (talk · contribs) 00:38, 7 July 2008 (UTC)

Simple English wikipedia may need your help

Hello there; I am sorry if I am posting this here. It may be unrelated to your Wikiproject, it is not on English-language Wikipedia either. I am Eptalon (Admin and CheckUser Simple English Wikipedia). Recently, an editor joined our ranks. This editor has not created an account; he (I am assuming he is male) edits mostly topics related to Pakistan (we recently saw the addition of many tehsils in Pakistan; before that he edited some articles related Kashmir; in general he seems to be interested in Geography). He is generally very active. The IP he uses to edit is based around Manchester, in the United Kingdom. We have tried to contact him (to tell him things like using {{stub}} for short articles, or putting interwiki links on those articles (he mostly copies parts of articles from EnWP). So far, he has not responded - so we cannot tell if our messages get through.

I do not know how common English is in Pakistan (or among the Pakistani community in GB); I also do not know what language is common in Pakistan. At the moment, I am assuming good faith; and I think he may have a language problem. My question to you would therefore be if you could help us get him to talk to us. At the moment, his edits do not constitue a breach of any rules (they just create a lot of work for other editors, adding stub templates or iw links).

Help would greatly be appreciated. (Another note: we are very open to Pakistan-related topics; at the moment we just do not have editors with this background.) --Eptalon (talk) 10:21, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

Jehan

Have a look at the Noor Jehan page and let me know what else needs doing. I want to still add a personal life type section but not a trivia sections like there was before. At the moment I think I have done some justice to the history section. As I am no pro with Noor Jehan's work I would like people who know a bit more about her to read the article and have a look and tell me if I have gone wrong. I still need to reference it, there weren't any to start with so it would be cool if people can add them or leave useful links on the talk page. SholeemGriffin (talk) 23:44, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Help needed with Hameed Shahid

Hi, I have been editing the article on Hameed Shahid, which was created by a user named Istaara. I have reason to believe that this is the subject of the article (see here. Istaara has also created articles for the books written by Shahid (all linked to from that article) and for some books written by others (but those articles also talk mostly about Shahid and even give his picture). I do not read Urdu and it is difficult for me to assess the notability or lack thereof of this author, so before putting the whole bunch of articles up for AfD as a walled garden of self-promotion, I would be good if someone knowledgeable on the subject of Urdu literature could have a look at this. Thanks! --Crusio (talk) 10:01, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Mir Taqi Mir

Do you think the Mir Taqi Mir article comes under the scope of WP Pakistan? I remember studying him for Urdu in 10th grade so I am curious. If he comes under the scope of WP Pakistan then I think I might edit the article and make it pretty. SholeemGriffin (talk) 20:53, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

It should because its part of Urdu literature. But maybe it should be under Wikiprojects Urdu (if there is such a project) Zohair Ahmad (talk) 06:20, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

The article is currently under the domain of WP India, Biographies and Muslim Scholars. I thought perhaps he should be under WP Pakistan as he forms a part of the cultural upbringing of every school goer in Pakistan. He has influenced loads of other poets like Ghalib so perhaps he should be under WP Pak. Anyway, Ghalib comes under WP Pakistan and he was an Urdu poet before Pakistan was formed so perhaps same treatment should be given to Mir. Well this is all that is going through my mind at the moment. However, he was an Urdu poet but well before Pakistan was formed which makes me wonder whether he qualifies as a WP Pak article contender. SholeemGriffin (talk) 01:07, 2 August 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Pakistan

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! Hi - I have found some copyright violations in the articles on rivers. I am working to verify the facts included and make the prose more neutral. An example was the Hungol River which was plagiarised from http://www.pakistanpaedia.com/parks/hingol/national_parks_of_pakistan-hingol.html . The editor (User:Siddiqui) who added that material has been blocked as a sockpuppet and banned per Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/India-Pakistan. I came across these articles at Simple English wikipedia where I believe potentially tendentious editing has been occurring and certainly the addition also of material that breaches copyright and is unreferenced and therefore unverified. Out of that material i have created simple:List of rivers of Pakistan and I am attempting to clean up and verify the articles that relate to rivers of Pakistan. I am cross-checking against this wikipedia's entries as I go. Any comments (or assistance) would be welcome. --Matilda talk 20:49, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

I've cleaned it up and taken out the worst invective. I've probably left more of the campaign claims there than I should have done, as there are real environmental issues which do need to be dealt with. Rather than deleting it all, I've asked for citations for several unsourced statements. This page could do with an eye being kept on it, as it has started out as an environmentalist vehicle. Issues with Indian maps

standard convention currently followed

Im not sure if i had asked this before, but i think it is in the best interests of everyone that all of us follow a consistent approach while creating maps of Pakistan and India. As you know, the WP:INMAP section has been quite active and have made a large number of maps which can be seen here Commons:Category:WikiProject India Maps that are used in over 20,000+ articles. It is important for us to know if anyone in the Pakistan project have any issues regarding the representation of Kashmir in those maps, particularly the convention followed in File:India map blank.svg. It would be great to get the feedback from the community so that we can improve our work and not have disputes or misunderstandings later on which might render all our work useless -- PlaneMad|YakYak 09:56, 28 December 2008 (UTC)

New editor contributions

I am a bit concerned about the huge amount of article creations and edits over the last day or two by Newbie WALTHAM1. I have reverted several of the edits, redirected one, copy edited another, Khatrils and also noted another editor has Afd'd another of the articles for notability, of which there are others similar in style. I don't have sufficient knowledge to be able to tell if all these articles about Kashmir / Pakistan tribes are genuine or notable enough to warrant inclusion. Could an experienced editor please take a look through them? I will help where possible in copy editing and English spelling corrections. I also have some archive images in my family archives from the early 1900's that were taken up in the NWFP districts, which may be suitable for inclusion. Richard Harvey (talk) 20:30, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

The main problem with the editing is not following the MoS, the clans and tribes were notable enough to be included in the census conducted by the British during the colonial era. Unlike ancient tribes such as the Banochaemae, these tribes have not disappeared, are still around and therefore I think are notable enough for inclusion. I too have been editing some these new creations including the Baghial (which needs some modern day data) and Dhamial Jats. Rather than being AFD, they should be redirected to an appropriate article, however I think perhaps a bit of patience with the newcomer would be best. Like all newbies the edits get better Pahari Sahib 21:12, 31 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi! The article Recognition of Marital Rape in Pakistani Law was recently saved from AfD. The article was a copy-paste copyvio, but it seemed notable enough to be saved. All that is left after removing the copyvio text is a very sketchy historical outline of the subject and a list of references left over from the copyvio text. Zuhaib Bhatti

This article was recommended for deletion 10 days ago. The few sources I have been able to Google indicate that he works in Pakistani television. No one has yet commented one way or the other on whether or not to delete it. My personal opinion is that his notability, if it exists, is in non-English language sources and that only Pakistani editors are in a position to confirm it one way or the other. Does anyone here feel like checking him out? Rklear (talk) 00:17, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

The "islamic Channel" mentioned without a name in that very short page is Labbaik TV (see aksnetwork.tv). I can't find anything notable which is so far credited to Zuhaib Bhatti. With so much ambition, perhaps he will go far. Umar Zulfikar Khan (talk) 06:15, 31 January 2009 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 06:14, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Criminal Tribes Act

This new article about Criminal Tribes Act first enacted in 1871, and later 1911 under the British rule in India, might have some tribes amongst Ethnic groups in Pakistan, any contribution especially regarding the continuing stigma around these "criminal tribes" would be appreciated, thanks! --Ekabhishek (talk) 06:17, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

This article was just created yesterday and I tagged it for inclusion in WikiProject Pakistan, but I'm lost as to what categories it should have since I'm far from being an expert in this field. I also can't find a reliable biographical source. I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention, as it seems this is a notable article. I also wikilinked a few instances of his name in other articles. §FreeRangeFrog 19:31, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

i have tagged it for inclusion to wikiproject Pakistan. It needs quite abit of editing with references.

Ba'ab-ul-Islam

I noticed this newly created page Ba'ab-ul-Islam while patrolling new pages. I'm not quite sure what to make of it, and hope that someone from this project can take a look. The opening sentence does not make a lot of sense to me, but I get the impression from the article that it synonymous with Sindh and wonder if the two should be merged. --Derek Andrews (talk) 22:23, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

The article's name is a uncommon nickname for Sindh. I don't know why the editor created this article as there is no justification for it. Some of the work seems to be sent to take up space. Some parts should be merged with Sindh, others deleted. --→ Ãlways Ãhëad (talk) 22:46, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

I have recently added an External Link to a page on 'Lahore' but that edit was later revoked by the editor considering it a spam !!

That link was in total adherance to the External Links Guidelines and was adding value to the content of the page. In fact, it was elaborating on the few places mentioned inside the articles (like popular places to visit).

But, unfortunately, the editor considered it as a spam, reason being given as doing a self-promotion.

It really opens up a debate that why I can't add my own link?

I am a travel enthusiast and have worked on various Travel related projects especially in Pakistan so it is no surprise that I share this knowledge with my users by making a website.

My website is about 5 years old now with over 70 pages worth of information for the readers. I have received emails from all over the world seeking advice for travelling to Pakistan. Initially my site was on a free host which I have recently moved to a new domain.

Further, I truely believe that WikiPedia is about sharing quality content and keeping the same trait, I suggested a URL but surprisingly it was not accepted.

In brief, I need your opinions about what wrong I have done here except adding a quality link to the article?

Adding a link that you yourself are associated with is strongly advised against by our WP:COI guideline. Self-promotion does seem to be the case here. If someone else decides to add the link, that's a different matter, but they should still obtain consensus. EdJohnston (talk) 04:20, 23 March 2009 (UTC)

Over at WP:AN/I we came across a number of articles about residents of the Circle Bakote. Several were deleted including Molana Yaqoob Alvi Birotvi, Sayed Fazal Hussain Shah, and Obaidullah Alvi. These appear to be non-notable, but there are some concerns that there may be some miscommunication about sourcing and our own lack of knowledge about the reason. What isn't in doubt is that most of these were in dire need of complete re-writes and wikification. Also, all of these appear to be related to User:Molvi333 who is the subject of the deleted Mohammed Obaidullah Alvi, an earlier version of Obaidullah Alvi that was deleted after a discussion in 2007 seen here. Anyone familiar with the subjects/region would be appreciated if they would comment at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Molana_yaqoob_alvi_birotvi. If you would like to see any of the deleted articles, ask me, and I'll be happy to copy them into your user space or I could set up an area in my user space to help establish if these subjects are or are not notable. An article wriiten by Adraak3 about Asrar Ahmad Adraak has been nominated for deletion. The main issue with the article is a total lack of sources (nor ones online, as a Google search would reveal). Baghdada article

The above article has been protected until August 22nd.

Basically, I removed some information which was unsourced (replacing it with a summary sentence), but another unregistered editor keeps putting it back to how it was.

I would be grateful if some of the members of this project could look at my/Pahari Sahib's version and compare it to the previous version. If I am at fault in removing the information, could someone (a) let me know on my talk page (b) find references?

The current version (21:48, 19 August 2009) (which is basically this edit with protection) is the protected version, which is basically the recent edits by myself and Pahari.

The previous version (which I believe to be incorrect, not necessarily factually, but from Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion) is shown in this version (12:12, 19 August 2009).

The differences between the last pre-edit version and the 12:12 19 Aug versions are shown on this diff:

  1. The later version is restructured for clarity
  2. The first part of the first paragraph ("Baghdada is known as centre of knowledge, education and sports in Mardan district. The great religious scholar Sheikhul Hadees Maulana Abdul Qayum, died in 1992, belonged to it. He was the unanimous religious leader of the region. Because of him the town also named as Baghdada shareef (name of honour and respect)."). I removed this as I could not find any sources of information for this. The remainder of the first paragraph is still in the article, but restructed, as per 1
  3. I removed the "People" section (The literacy rate is higher than other Union councils of Mardan city) as there is no evidence of this.
  4. The long paragraph about the mosque is unsourced (and I could find no sources of information for this), so I removed most of it - the mosque is still mentioned in the article (even though I didn't find a specific reference to it), but not the "historical" aspects.
  5. The references, see also and external links sections were all tidied up by myself.

If WikiProject Pakistan members could look at it before the protection ends it would be helpful. If some of the content from the older version can be sourced, then Please discuss any changes on the talk page; you may use the {{editprotected}} template to ask an administrator to make the edit if it is supported by consensus.

I know that I know nothing about this region (or Pakistan in general), so I think it would be beneficial for members of this project to look at it and decide (using reliable sources and citations) what should be added to it.

The Baghdada and Talk:Baghdada pages are on my watchlist, so I will see any discussions on the talk page (and on this page) - but if anyone wants to leave a message on my talk page, just contact me!

Regards, -- PhantomSteve (Contact Me, My Contribs) 21:29, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Infoboxes up for deletion

The Infobox Pakistani location template (the erstwhile Infobox Pakistani city) along with a couple of others are up for deletion. Whether you think they are all redundant or whether you would like to keep them make a note here so that the views of WP-Pakistan are adequately reflected. Pahari Sahib 10:35, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Cleanup

As you may have noticed, the templates are being standardised as part of a current drive to improve the standard of the Pakistan articles. If anybody here can help go through the Category:Cities, towns and villages in Pakistan and all the sub categories by district/province this would be great as a lot of them contian unencyclopedic lists of local "famous" people which should be removed as should very badly unreferenced written text about clans and in general. Please look out for WP:Peacock words, particularly "famous", "popular", "most beautiful", "best", "important", "main" etc and remove this WP:POV from articles.

Here is your typical content that should be removed asap. I removed this just minutes before posting here:

"It is a village of lovely and sincere people. A majority of the people are farmers who largely grow sugarcane, wheat and rice. Many people have gone abroad to strength the economy of their families and with the ultimate objective to serve their country. They are working hard abroad in Middle East and Europe. "sharfana" family is most dominent in this village. They are well mannered, educated and disciplined family. Choudary Mukkhtar Ahmad Gondal, ex chairman of unoin counsil belongs to this family, has his own integrity and respect in the whole tehsil. His nephews chouadary munawar sajjad gondal, choudary musharraf sajjad gondal, choudary mubashar sajjad gondal are highly educated and qualified guys in village."

Now we know the author meant good faith but you see what I mean... Please help find WP:Reliable sources to improve the quality of articles. Project members like Mr. Sahib and Mr. Brian Lara really need your support in writing decent articles about Pakistani places. Thanks! Himalayan 21:23, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Personally, I'm finding the towns listed in the general Category:Cities, towns and villages in Pakistan to be a good place to start. If the editors haven't bothered to even narrow the category down by province, it's likely there are other things that need fixing. I think I'll start there before moving into the subcats. Great job finding a great example of regionalist fancruft above, it's always interesting to see what unencyclopedic themes folks focus on. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:59, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
Okay, I went and sub-cat'ed over 100 articles from Category:Cities, towns and villages in Pakistan, so the only articles remaining un-subbed are those which need a lot of cleanup, and/or are so unclear I can't even tell quite where they are. There are about 15 of those left if anyone wants to take a stab. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:44, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

This article appears to be about some special law-enforcement units, but is confusing, has no clear introduction, has unnecessary lists of officers, a bit of fancruft, etc. Found it in WP:UNCAT and cat'ed it, but giving a heads-up here for content. MatthewVanitas (talk) 02:41, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Probably better if you had posted this at WP:India :-) Pahari Sahib 08:03, 3 September 2009 (UTC)

Major cleanup on Wasu, Punjab, or just chop it down to nothing?

I'm not a cruel person, but Wasu, Punjab appears to be one of those huge articles with no actual content and a lot of fluff, POV, local pride, etc. I chopped out the barely-legible ramblings about "notable" people and places, and anon IPs went and typed them all back in (by hand?) rather than revert. Should we chop it down to bare bones, plug in a coord and infobox, and then write-protect to keep people from trying to add their best friends and cousins into some "notable" listing?
