It is amazing how fast the news section is updated now, compared to the infamous "Fernando Lugo picture", that I had become tired of seeing. So I hope that the ITN section keeps up like now and stays that way. Now Wikipedia ITN is not stale, and headlines are changing every day. I'm glad to see ITN updated so regularly.--[[User:MXER|J.C.]] ([[User talk:MXER|talk]]) 22:30, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 18:41 on 3 June 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed, determined not to be an error, or the item has rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

  • Lionel Dyck should be returned to Colonel Dyck as that was the name it was nominated and promoted as with the !support votes agreeing it was the commonname we should use. The C of E God Save the King! (talk) 05:34, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • For Champions League, can we swap and put Real Madrid in the first place as men's football is arguably more watched worldwide (without prejudice to women)? Brandmeistertalk 16:17, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that should matter (and I imagine it's precisely because of that reason that the women's one was listed first). That being said, because the men's final occurred more recently (and is the rationale for being assigned a June 1 date), I feel it should be listed first. Looking at ITN/C, I'm not sure why the women's one was listed first in the blurb; it wasn't even part of the original nomination. -- tariqabjotu 16:59, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think it's fine as is. Let it stay this way for a while, and we can always swap them tomorrow or something.  — Amakuru (talk) 17:16, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In association football, Barcelona win the women's Champions League and Real Madrid win the men's Champions League." [sic]
What it should say: In association football, Barcelona wins the women's Champions League and Real Madrid wins the men's Champions League.

  • 1937 – Edward VIIIA few months after abdicating the British throne, Edward, Duke of Windsor, married American socialite Wallis Simpson.

A few? Don't we know many? From abdication on Dec. 11, 1936, to marriage on June 3, 1937, looks like essentially five months, or close to half a year. – Sca (talk) 02:51, 3 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Today's POTD

In the current sentence "...at which point they are known as hornworms" - it may be advisable to add the phrase (i am quoting from original article itself) - "with a cream-coloured tail horn" - so as to clarify which side is the head and which side is the tail in this larva stage image.

General discussion

Main page?

What is main about this page? Should it not be called the Front page or Cover page instead?--ProperFraction (talk) 00:37, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure if "Front" and "Cover" are any better. The page is not in front of nor covering anything, besides what's inside your monitor. --199.71.174.100 (talk) 02:04, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A load of electronic bits I think!--ProperFraction (talk) 16:57, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Front page would cause a lot of disambiguation issues with Frontpage, and wiki is not paper. ffm 19:03, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe "First Page"? --Howard the Duck 09:58, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wasn't there some talk of moving it out of the WP:main namespace entirely? I can't find it under perenniel proposals. AlmostReadytoFly (talk) 14:41, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Its never really been put forward as a serious proposal, but there has been many, many, short discussions on the topic, the three major ones that occured are in archives 87, 89 and 90.
All this is easily found in the information box at the top of the page btw :) Ferdia O'Brien (T)/(C) 14:51, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I dont really see whats so bad about "main page" anyway. It links too all the portals witch links to basically the whole encyclopedia--68.205.238.207 (talk) 23:16, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Amarnath

I wonder what's so internationally important about the Amarnath news. Maquahuitltalk! 04:27, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"what's so internationally important" about most other news? most news have to start locally. a minority is international, e.g. UN summits. --131.227.208.101 (talk) 15:57, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I cannot currently help you. It was suggested on Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates#ITN Candidates for June 25, but it currently does not explain your concern. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:37, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And what does the hook mean by a "land transfer"? Did someone dump a pile of dirt there? There is no context for understanding this news item, nor any link to a larger story. --EncycloPetey (talk) 23:24, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I find that rather odd, too. I don't know how to fix it. Does anyone have any better ideas? Please post alternate wording at WP:ERRORS. I hope this gets fixed soon. --199.71.174.100 (talk) 05:35, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
See Amarnath#June_2008_protests. Muslims and Hindus had riots over the transfer of forest land to Amarnath so more people could be accomodated at the site. 66.213.14.239 (talk) 16:36, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Main page hacked?

The main page now displays just an image of some guy. Is this happenning just to me or is the page hacked? Admiral Norton (talk) 10:55, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see anything unusual at the moment. --Bongwarrior (talk) 11:05, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
