Revision as of 17:08, 23 December 2011

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – constant IP-hopping vandal, with false information of signed musicians to the record label and also the current location of the record label keeps being changed to false locations [1]. Suggesting a couple/few months of semi-protection. MarkMysoe (talk) 16:47, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary full-protection: Edit warring - Trying to get User:POVbrigand to discuss on the talkpage, but he is refusing. 128.59.171.184 (talk) 17:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Try temp first. There is an IP attempting to change the facts in the lede of the article. He hops around a bit. If he can be blocked through a rangeblock, that might be something to pursue, but a temp semi would be appreciated. Izno (talk) 16:41, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

Temporary semi-protect. Directly linked as top result for Google's new doodle, and we're getting a decent amount of unproductive IP edits. Please protect until after December 25 — FoxCE (talk | contribs) 14:51, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Salvio Let's talk about it! 15:07, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: vandals returned almost immediately after previous protection expired and have been active since. --Skywatcher68 (talk) 14:49, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of a fortnight, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Salvio Let's talk about it! 15:03, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism.  ⊃°HotCrocodile...... + 14:30, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Alexf.. Salvio Let's talk about it! 14:54, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Editing dispute over the critical consensus. A discussion has been started at Talk:Harry_Potter_and_the_Deathly_Hallows_–_Part_2#.22Universal_critical_acclaim.22, but a new editor and IPs keep editing it to the disputed version. Semi for a few days should allow the discussion to arrive at a consensus. Betty Logan (talk) 11:58, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. I've give the user a short block, which will hopefully make them pay attention. If they continue, I'll make it longer. If the IP comes back, please relist, as I'm hoping that the single (that I can see) IP is a one-off. GedUK  13:12, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – repeatedly overwritten by IP-hopping vandal, with the bio of a single actor with this name, all looking like [2]. Suggest a few months of semi-protection. Filing Flunky (talk) 09:00, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of a fortnight, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Salvio Let's talk about it! 10:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Lots of vandalism from anonymous editors; likewise, most anonymous edits are vandalism. Kinaro(say hello) (what's been done) 05:56, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, for now; while it's true that most of the recent IP edits were vandalism, the article has not been edited by anyone for a week, so I'm not sure semi-protection is needed or warranted. If vandals hit again, I'l definitely protect, however. Salvio Let's talk about it! 10:05, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: due to several repeated unexplained changes by IPs for at least the past two weeks. Suggest protecting for six months, which would result in being unprotected just in time for the release. --Skywatcher68 (talk) 13:54, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sorry, but with no protection history I'm not prepared to go as long as that at this point. GedUK  12:58, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – persistant vandalism and spamming. Il223334234 (talk) 07:18, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Of the last 50 edits to this page, only two or three are legitimate; the rest are vandalism and associated reversions. Already protected for a week in April 2011. . Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 06:24, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Long-term vandalism. -- Luke (Talk) 21:49, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. --slakrtalk / 06:13, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Requesting temporary (say, 2 wk) prot on this. A story just came out today about this game being cancelled, and while a company rep has affirmed it is not, a few IPs are marking it as such. It's low volume right now, but this just broke within the hr, so this is just to make sure the right story on the game's current fate is appropriately learned before changes can be made. Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism. Tgeairn (talk) 19:43, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Already protected. --slakrtalk / 06:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: IPs keep reverting numerous styling aspects of the tables (such as adding in <small> when it shouldn't be present). Repeated requests for this to halt have amounted to nothing, and I am becoming highly irritated to have to keep reverting these changes myself. I Am RufusConversation is a beautiful thing. 17:58, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. --slakrtalk / 06:00, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. IP users repeatedly adding claims unsupported by the references they provide, thus violating verifiability. Jetstreamer (talk) 10:24, 21 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined — this has been sitting here for a while, and I've avoided it because it's a content dispute. Nobody else seems to want to take action, because both of you are slowly revert warring. Please consider getting a third opinion or other forms of dispute resolution to build consensus. --slakrtalk / 06:04, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full-protection - vandalism and edit conflicts going on. As many times before.--BabbaQ (talk) 23:16, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Declined for now --slakrtalk / 06:06, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
