Regarding Chhota Bheem

Dear sir, There are few things I wish to inform you:

1. This page and the series (Chhota Bheem) is being shown as the work of a SINGLE individual Rajiv Chilaka whereas the simple and easily verifiable truth is that Chilaka is the OWNER of Greengold Animations which in collaboration with several freelance writers (more on them below) made Chhota Bheem. This is an extremely pertinent point that needs to be unambiguously highlighted in no uncertain terms.

2. In this page as well as the Rajiv Chilaka page there is/was a lot of self-glorification like one would expect in a Facebook fan page. To my best knowledge Wikipedia subscribes to Truth and Truth alone - whatever it might seem like. Chhota Bheem is popular no doubt about that but there have been many instances and controversies concerning the kind of stories shown. For example: In one story, 'diving competition' kids are shown jumping from a height into water. This is totally insane and uncalled for and against the rules framed by the Indian Broadcasting forum and even against what the channel PoGo and Cartoon Network claims to adhere.

3. In 2011, by an act of Indian Parliament 3% of all revenues from the repeat telecast of a story in a series was to be paid to the writer as a royalty. Greengold has not done this and writers who have no money to litigate continue to languish in poverty while everyone else spends money that should have been theirs by right of law.

4. A cursory look at the daily telecast in india and abroad will show that writers who have written the story are not being credited. The series is shown as Marathon where all the stories that follow in one telecast is shown as being written by ONE single writer (the current freelancer with Greengold) or teh entire thing is prefaced with only the logo of Greengold. This is a serious, serious offence.

1968 Yenko

Hello. I noticed you undid my edits in the Yenko Camaro section. I just wanted to let you know that I own an actual 1968 Yenko Camaro and have been involved in the Camaro hobby for over 30 years. I also own a classic car dealership. I just wrote an article about 68 Yenko Camaro's in an upcoming book. There were several factual errors in the 1968 section that have bothered me for a while and I corrected them. Also, the picture was of a clone car and not even an original Yenko. The 68 pictured is an award winning REAL car. I assure you that I have only made this section factual and take these cars very seriously. It would be in the best interest of Wiki to have my help. Thank you for looking out. Dana

If you have a moment, could I get your opinion on the original block on these accounts? (The account blocks, not the ip block you just made) Those blocks seem a bit excessive to me based on the discussion on User talk:Taokaka, and I'd like a third opinion, if you don't mind. Spatial-Visualization article is a false page

User:Materialscientist

The page spatial visualization is a misleading article because the page itself is talking about mental rotation NOT the actual definition of "spatial-visualization". There is already a page for mental rotation. This misleading page defines spatial visualization inaccurately with that of mental rotation even though spatial visualization is defined as being able to imagine space and objects from different perspectives while mental rotation is the mental ability to mentally manipulate 2D-3D objects. It needs serious fix. It also conflates and state spatial-visualization as visual-spatial ability even though they are not synonymous since visual-spatial ability is actually the capacity in using one's visual senses to perceive spatial relations among objects and environment. Grossly misleading article. Help fix it. Shootingstar88 (talk) 11:13, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree, but I have too little knowledge and interest in spatial visualization to help fixing it, sorry. Materialscientist (talk) 11:20, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

SPI

In this SPI you blocked both accounts. Unless I am missing something, this looks like a new editor not familiar with our rules. Indef-blocking all socks (well, there was only 1 sock and one puppeteer) and sternly reminding him to only use one account (with the usual exceptions) would be more welcoming, along with a stern caution or short-term block for his two disparaging edits ([1], [2]) that would've earned him a stern warning or short block even if he hadn't used multiple accounts.

On the other hand, if there is non-public knowledge or if he "smells" like there is more to it, then indef-blocking both might be the right thing to do. But blocking both when neither has many edits and the edits aren't in and of themselves block-worthy sticks out like a sore thumb. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 05:02, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Xe made these edits [3] [4] on a hot topic, and hid one of them by a rapid typo from another account [5]. This is a very typical behavior of an experienced vandal rather than a newbie, hence indef blocks with no AGF. Materialscientist (talk) 05:12, 2 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, my bad

Hi There.

I am the new president of Cairnlea FC that's why I made the changes on the page. I didn't know I had to leave a source.

Could you please fix it or do I have to re edit again.

IP-hopping edit warrior at Zedd (musician)

Hi! So, I've got an IPv6 IP-hopper at Zedd (musician) that is edit warring to remove a "circa." birthdate, despite the fact that it's sourced – Any idea on what I should do here? The IP-hopping rules out a WP:ANEW filing, and I'm not sure the disruption warrants WP:RfPP. On my end, I'm pretty much up against my 3-revert limit here... Thanks in advance! --IJBall (contribstalk) 06:49, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A hasty revert without taking any time to look at why the photo was added. --— J.S.talk 10:54, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Don't understand your comment "unsourced". The statement added to the article has a reference - Karsten et al. 2009. And the figure was meant to illustrate the specific behavior of the species. What's wrong with a variety of pictures, given that individual creatures look so different? --— J.S.talk 23:24, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, we tend to look at our own stuff with pink tinted glasses but having others submit photos I took is too time consuming, i.e. I wouldn't submit any pictures if this is the required procedure. It's also a regulation attempting to control a minute detail that will not be broadly understood by a majority of users. How many editing rules can an average Joe contributor to the Wikipedia remember? 10? How many are there in total? 100+? It feels like the Wikipedia rules and conventions are increasingly like the tax code. --— J.S.talk 23:43, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am asking for advice regarding some recent edits in this article. Yesterday, out of the blue, a user unrelated to the article began an edit war over a citation I have chosen for the introduction. Mine are changes belonging to a long-term revamping of the article-- an article that has been languishing for too long, suffering from vandalism and lack of orientation. I asked the user to move the discussion to the Talk Page, and after a final warning for reaching the 3Rs, he finally did, posting a question, which I think is reasonable. But just now, as I am preparing to answer it, I noticed what seems like an edit war rehearsal. Two others, also unrelated to the article's history (only one edit), have joined and one has again reverted my changes even when I have asked to direct the discussion to the Talk Page instead. Would appreciate your thoughts. Caballero//Historiador 18:24, 3 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected block evasion

Hello. You blocked Parda Parda for 36h yesterday for "repeated addition of unsourced material", material that was also clearly promotional. He's now obviously back as 119.160.97.231 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), 119.160.97.213 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log) and 119.160.97.206 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log), making the exact same kind of unsourced/insufficiently sourced promotional edits on Huma Qureshi as Parda Parda made (just look at the edit summaries of the suspected master and the IP-socks, they're all pasting the entire section they've just edited into the edit summary field...). His finance and him have actually fought over this subject, because he is telling her that he has added it to his wikipedia page through me his assistant, and yet its not there overtime we check.. please explain to me how to solve this problem and put the proper infomation to his page.

George Murdoch engaged to Ingrid Rinck owner of Fitcamp and Sensible Portions. They have a daughter named Georgie born May 7, 2014. He currently resides in Mandeville, la .

He also wanted his stand up comedy and Fox news appearances added to his page. thank you in advance for your help with this matter.

Hi, you removed/changed my edits regarding Kelly-Marie Stewart (Actress).

As many news outlets have reported, she was recently wed to James Lovelady on August 30th 2015 in a lovely ceremony at Peckforton Castle in Cheshire and is now known as Kelly-Marie Lovelady, she has one daughter Daisie-Ann Lovelady

I am not overly sure how to edit the page and reference all of the above, every time I try to, you change the information...

Many news outlets reported on the story, if you google news for Kelly-Marie Stewart wedding or even just "kelly-marie stewart" you will find many articles (Daily Mail, Liverpool Echo, BBC News, OK Magazine, Now! Magazine, CNN, Daily Mirror plus others have all reported on the wedding as she "walked" down the isle).

Your assistance in updating this record will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't yet written for the Wikipedia Signpost, and I'm aware you're not a writer, but as you are an admin I was wondering if you had any ideas on the image restrictions. I'm currently writing the WikiProject report for the Wikipedia Signpost.

Can I use the following images?

  • File:Rémi Casty 2012.jpg
  • File:Johnathan Thurston (25 June 2009, Cairns).jpg
  • File:Headingley Carnegie.jpg

I assume I can use them as long as I don't link them to another page/no page, therefore when clicked they provide attribution?

Thanks. Leeds United FC fan (talk) 22:04, 6 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Infrastructure Canada edit by 69.158.15.216

Hey,

While that wasn't me (and I'll ask around the office who made the change,) the Denis Lebel is no longer a minister in Canada and Amarjeet Sohi is indeed the Minister of Infrastructure, albeit not also for the Regions of Quebec. This is reflected on both of their respective wikipedia pages. I've updated the article to return the edit and correctly omit the Regions of Quebec Ministry.

Out of curiosity, what flagged this change as vandalism to you?

Materialscientist, although I missed it when it happened, 72.215.153.56, who you blocked for two years on September 30, 2013, made this vandalizing edit about 34 hours ago. This isn't the first vandalism since the block ended, either; there was a series of four edits on November 16 and 17 that resulted in the article being protected, but no message on the IP's talk page.

I've put a "final warning" template on the IP's talk page, and will let you know if I should see any future vandalism. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:42, 7 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

My recent contributions to Kaziranga Express has been undone

Hi,

Materialscientist I had done some contribution to the page Kaziranga express with my knowledge of Railways and few information was taken from Indian Railways which is accurate. I am disappointed that all my contribution to the page is undone. According to me the entire contribution from my side was 100% correct and also was constructive as the changes were similar to the page before editing. Totally disappointed with that undone process... totally

And yes made a mistake by rolling back my contribution.

What to do about a user who is using Wikipedia as a social network

Here we have an interesting case. I have been watching DerpMeep (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) for some time. They appear to be clearly WP:NOTHERE because it seems they are using Wikipedia as a social network.

The user:

  • Has not made any contributions in article space
  • Has made many contributions to pages in their own userspace that I would consider to be trolling (such as fake "New Message" notifications on their talk page, recursively redirecting their sandbox to itself, and adding a link on their own talk page to a collection of pornographic videos on Wikimedia Commons that read "certain page")
  • Has created Template:My obsession which was moved and redirected to Talk:LOLOLOL "just to mess with with the person that cliked on the link..." and added many links to masturbation titled "interesting link [page?, I don't remember exactly]" to the aforementioned talk page. This was his only contribution outside userspace.
  • Has used user talk pages to talk to other users about topics completely unrelated to Wikipedia and at one point attempted to contact an inactive user through their userpage (diff)

It is hard to determine his age, but based on the immature link trolling and the message added to the userpage above I would say he is probably a middle school or high school student and they do not seem to understand the purpose of Wikipedia. I have reminded them that Wikipedia is not a social network and he seems to have stopped with the social networking but he still has not made any useful contributions. Hullo Materialscientist . I wonder if you could help me. I am new to Wikipedia in that I have never tried to edit . I am in my eighty's and when I look at the instructions they are all a bit gobbledegook to me. I have tried to link to an article but it came up error even though I had actually entered the source. It would appear I have to do something before I enter the source and then again after I have entered the source. Hoping you can assist. Mr Maggoo

Changes Reverted

Hello Materialscientist,

You reverted back the changes I made just now on some pages like bronze, die casting, shielded metal arc welding as there were no citations provided by me.But I want you to consider the thing that all these articles dont have much reliable sources. And almost all these articles are written on the basis of one's own knowledge. Also the information I provided on all these pages are correct as far as I know and if you think I should provide some source, then I will manage to provide a few and you know that these types of articles don't have much available sources which to rely upon except the books written by some well-known authors. Dpshmrt (talk) 11:57, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just make up a "source" for it. I doubt that materialscientist would even notice, as he mainly just uses bots. Cheers, 1416domination (talk) 17:11, 8 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. You replied to am edit that I made on the Jerry Lewis web page. I am sorry that I don't know much about Wikipedia and that my edit could in any way be called "Vandalism". My edit was in correction to the in accurate quoted words of Mr. Lewis. I am very angry that my correction was again altered! You can listen yourself here. Mr. Lewis "syrians" and my quotation is exactly what Mr. Lewis did say.

"ISIS has attacked the world. Refugee's should stay where the hell they are. Nobody has worked harder for the human condition that I have, but they are not part of the human condition if eleven of then thousand are ISIS. How can I take the chance. I don't want to loose another Frenchmen or Englishmen. That bothers me."

The quote that has been replaced and that is now on the Jerry Lewis page in not accurate as to what Mr. Lewis said in the interview. Please simply correct the record. You can't re-write history.

This is now what the page for Jerry Lewis says and it is not correct! ("Mr. Lewis commented on the Syrian refugee crisis in a December 2015 interview with Raymond Arroyo by saying "Refugees should stay where the hell they are" and that "[Syrians are] not part of the human condition".)

I hope you will see the difference and understand why I object to the quotation as they now stand on Mr. Lewis's page.

(talk page stalker)Hey MaterialScientist, he's right. It certainly is not fair to tag the good-faith restoration of a full quote as 'vandalism'. The way you restored it to, the quote is lacking important relevant context. Pigkeeper (talk) 22:36, 10 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

HELP!!!

Hi. So I'm having a problem with another user and I don't know what to do about it. A user user:Artmanha. He repeatedly deleted anyones edits from The Shannara Chronicles page. "Bug" in sfn template

Ah, you managed to correct the error at Botany before I did (edit clash as I went to save); the "bug" I was referring to in my edit summary was in the error message, which wrongly says that the template is "defined multiple times with different content". Let's see if we can get this fixed. Peter coxhead (talk) 11:41, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Citation templates now require exact input. For example, the use of pp=739 (instead of p=739) would cause an "error". Materialscientist (talk) 11:58, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's not quite so simple. If you just use |pp=739 once, it doesn't appear to cause an error. My concern is that using |p= and |pp= with the same single page number causes a misleading error message. Peter coxhead (talk) 14:08, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, what I meant was when someone uses pp=739 and p=739, the parser can not combine those sfn refs into one and shows an error - this is how the template was recoded (recently I guess). Materialscientist (talk) 22:16, 12 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Debate in Puerto Rico

There is a debate in Puerto Rico that is tantamount to edit warring but in slow motion. See here, for example. It is about what most people would consider "technical" and insignificant, but in Puerto Rican politics, nothing of this nature is trivial. I plan to call those involved to talk in the article's Talk Page. But, honestly, I think we might need counsel from an expert. What do you think? What is the approach for things like this, when a gridlock might be sidestep with technical knowledge? In the world outside of WP, we often just call the experts. Thanks. big pun

Thank you.

Sadly Big Pun, passed away. But the change didn't show or changed it was blank. I was trying to add his children on his info box.

You removed my edit to entry for "Camaron de la Isla" due to lack of reference.

Perhaps you did not read this edit and just removed it out of habit. If you did, you would have noticed that it is self referencing, as it contains the EAN of the CD box set mentioned in the edit. Every CD is uniquely identified by its EAN.

The purpose of the edit is to show an interested reader, that they have an option of buying a full set of Camaron's works instead of chasing long out of print single CDs. This is useful practical information.

I quoted this EAN from the CD box set that I purchased recently.

What other reference can I provide without appearing to push some product?

Please think about it and do not bite newbies unnecessarily. They may just go away.

Your mail to me...

First off: I /did/ add a source to Ciara Hanna's page as well as to the one of Richard Harmon the first time, but it was removed and I didn't have the source the second time. But I do remember seeing a periscope Q&A from Harmon, where he answered one fans question if he was dating someone and he answered with (something along the lines of) "Yes, I am dating Ciara Hanna, and have been for a while now." Since you can't source a periscope, I couldn't add one the second time. Why it was removed the first time is still not clear to me.

Almquist shell

I had added the special value "empty" to the website parameter in the Infobox because otherwise it automatically acquires the link from the page. And as this external link is nothing official but only a self-published page from me, I believe it's not appropriate in the Infobox. Do you agree?

Unfortunately I hadn't noticed the special nature of this parameter until after the first edit (what a disgrace). --Smascheck (talk) 22:10, 13 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Eugene Lipov

Hi, and thank you for your message. I have received the information from Dr. Eugene Lipov himself, can you please restore the page and perhaps you could add this as a source then?

EDIT: I have added source material and re-uploaded the edited page. If you have any more remarks about this, I would be more than happy to hear about them but can you work with me on keeping the new page as I'm doing this on request of the person the page is about?

EDIT 2: OK, I don't want to be a pain but can you please keep the edited page up and suggest to me what I can do to improve it, instead of reverting back to the old one? I have received all the info from Dr. Lipov himself in order to update it. I was also under the impression that the following rule applied: "Never use self-published books, zines, websites, webforums, blogs and tweets as a source for material about a living person, unless written or published by the subject of the biographical material.". Since Dr. Lipov is the author and publisher of this material, I would think that it suffices? If not, can you please non-destructively assist in improving the page? Thank you. Talk:Dolly Parton/Comments is a test page; it is much easier to delete it as such or let it be than merge. Materialscientist (talk) 01:13, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
It's a test page?...oh. The problem is that Archiving hasn't been set up but there's an "Archive" box on "Talk:Dolly Parton" that leads to "Talk:Dolly Parton/Comments" which would seem to mess up actually archiving "Talk:Dolly Parton"... If "Comments" is left as-is will that mess up archiving when it kicks in? Thanks, Shearonink (talk) 02:42, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK favor that needs to be done as soon as possible, but definitely within an hour

Materialscientist, can you please swap the middle six hooks between Queue 6 and Queue 2, so the right hooks are promoted at midnight for Wikipedia's 15th birthday? It would be great if you could, as my previous attempts to arrange a swap went badly awry. I'm trying to make up for the fact that our original plans got off schedule while DYKUpdateBot was down.

Here is what needs to go where (check before you move, just in case someone gets there before you do):

  • Queue 6 to Queue 2: hooks 2 through 7, currently Magical Pet, Sehedate Mekuli, 1941 football championship, Texas A&M–Commerce Lions women's volleyball, Nazhiah Mestaoui, and Daecheong Dam. (Hooks 1 and 8 stay where they are: porpoises, and the double hook with songs.)
  • Queue 2 to Queue 6: hooks 2 through 7, currently Lena Durr (which was accidentally combined with hook 1 and will need to be separated), Officer's Choice, Frank Stähle, Pepe the frog, Max Deutsch, and Air Ambulance Center. (Hooks 1 and 8 stay where they are: Church of St. George Church the Exiler and Thilawa of Yamethin.)

I don't want to complicate things unduly, but I couldn't help but notice that the Queue 6 to Queue 2 set has two sports hooks in a row. Maybe move the volleyball team down one or two hooks to get it away from the football hook, but not so far as the quirky slot?

Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:55, 14 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me for starting to panic (I've seen you do other edits in the past 15 minutes, but not these); should I try Crisco 1492 again? (We have about 20 minutes before the bot makes the promotion.) You left me a message about a few small changes I made to his page. I inserted the scheduled number of rounds that some of his earlier fights were set for. Previously they just had ? marks there and you changed them back to ? marks. I have been watching old tape of his fights and filled in some of those ? marks with how many rounds the fights were scheduled for because I had just watched them and knew. The only other change I made was near the top of his page it said his 1st professional fight was against some guy from the Phillipines. It wasn't, it was against David Felix, his first 21 fights were against fellow Mexican fighters.

I don't mind that you changed it all back. I just won't make changes to Wikipedia pages anymore, even if I know i'm correct.173.81.75.235 (talk) 02:27, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Spambots

User:Angieorry and several other spambot accts are spamming the same simplyhhealthysolutions.com link. I think I've CSDed 3 or 4 accts. Probably on the same range, along with some more that haven't spammed yet. INeverCry 07:12, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've checked and blocked what I could, but they have access to a wide IP space and use more than one PC, thus they'll keep coming. Materialscientist (talk) 07:43, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can the link be blacklisted? Wouldn't that be easier? (Or are we talking about more than one link?) Softlavender (talk) 09:00, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Any thoughts

Reposting here for Materialscientist. Is this a concern for the block which you have previously issued last week. Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 18:20, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

User:Mpear did get a block on one of these dynamically changing account for "2602" and "2601", but I am just now discovering that there may be some block evasion by that account in progress. I am hatting this since the list is quite long. Is this an issue? Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 17:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is from the film The Revenant alone. It gets longer when other pages are combined into it. Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 17:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This is the link for your previous block request which was granted here [7]. It seems that "2602" and "2601" are doing this dynamic account change thing by changing the extensions on their prefix names almost each time they log in. The issued block you requested appears to be being ignored by block evasion. Is this a concern. Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 18:02, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Reposting here for Materialscientist. Is this a concern for the block which you have previously issued last week. Fountains-of-Paris (talk) 18:20, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how I can help here - this is hardly socking (dynamic IPs may change without the editor's will; sometimes the editor willfully resets their router for that, but we can hardly tell the difference), and the ranges are too wide for a rangeblock. Semiprotection of articles is a standard tool when such edits are disruptive. Materialscientist (talk) 23:15, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalisation in multiple languages by B.Lameira

The user B.Lameira is changing "Parliamentary system" to "Semi-presidential system" on Tunisia on those related pages Parliamentary republic, Parliamentary system and Tunisia as well as on (File:Forms of government parliamentary.svg). Despite several demand to stop and a discussion on my talkpage, nothing seems to convince him to stop his behavior, could you please do something about it ? It already lead to a protection template on the french wikipedia.Fumehime (talk) 20:09, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

... about Stargrl? 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 20:46, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

More specifically, since you blocked the editor on 2 July 2015, she (I'm assuming by the username) has:

When I brought this to ANI, the responding editor attempted to make me the bad guy, as if NOT and BLP are irrelevant.

There remains no evidence that this editor has ever read her talk page, or intends to treat Wikipedia as anything other than a fan site. The issue is that she will make a few edits and disappear, sometimes for weeks; any block shorter than three months may go completely unnoticed. 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 22:05, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reblocked for 2 weeks. Materialscientist (talk) 22:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Much obliged, though quite possibly too short to be noticed. OTOH, when (not if ) the behavior returns, a much longer block will be unquestionably justified. 🖖ATinySliver/ATalkPage 23:07, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert...

Hi MatSci,

I was just wondering, did you intend to mark this revert to Robert Irvine as good faith? Isn't it more or less true vandalism?

Regards, <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 22:50, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

WP:Stiki is a wonderful antivandalism tool, but it has its limitations (showing only part of the article, offering a limited choice for standard revert summaries, etc.). Seeing only a small part of the article I'm often unsure the edit is blatant vandalism. This leaves me two choices: type my own warning/edit summary from scratch, or leave the standard "Reverted XX good faith edit(s)", which is what you saw. Materialscientist (talk) 22:56, 15 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Materialscientist! Happy Friday! I'm messaging you to ask about the reversion you made on AIV - was there something wrong with my report? ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 00:33, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I meant to revert your previous edit; yes, please read the green-squared notice at WP:AIV - you often report editors way too early for a block (one edit, for example). Materialscientist (talk) 00:36, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Just started WIKI. Will read up on references and try again.

Block of IP

Please consider an indefinite block of 174.119.44.48 (talk · contribs). Various vandalism-only IPs, including this one, have been targeting articles related to West Hill Collegiate Institute. Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 01:58, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

IPs are reassigned, hence an indefinite block of an IP is almost always a mistake. Materialscientist (talk) 03:09, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Farid Simaika

Hi. I wonder why you deleted the change I made to the 'external link' section of Farid Simaika. All I did was to move the YouTube link a few lines up the same section ( to make the link more obvious to the reader). I was only making life easier to any reader. I did not add or delete anything. I just re-arranged the 'external link' section. Youssef simaika (talk) 08:22, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I meant to delete it, because youtube links are volatile, hence we avoid using them. Materialscientist (talk) 08:27, 16 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Broadly did an extensive investigation that revealed these cases. Why are you stating this is an unreliable source?[1]. If you see the original source, you will find all relevant court documents and legal sources that are verifiable. What is the issue with these posts, other than the fact that some of this verifiable information is not laudatory?

Ground (electricity)

Hi, um, apparently I got a message for my "contribution" to page and I'm quite confused. I feel that you got the wrong person. I don't edit wiki pages and even if I did, I wouldn't edit them in a language I don't speak (and it'd probably be a theology page haha cuz that's all I read). Just felt like I should put it here. Have a good day.

It's been removed for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! Hello There,

I was editing the Gouda Saraswath Brahmin page and the published works of this might be in another language (kannada). where do i need to provide this detail and how will you verify? will you be able to revert the edited content?

Regards, Arjun

Hello There,

I was editing the goud saraswat brahmin page and from what i understand is that you are looking at ref. ref for this material is available in a series of book called Srimad bhagwad. If you are a christian and to help you understand, the article is a quote / chapter out of bible. the ref are widely read in sanskrit, hindi and kannada. the only ref i could find in eng is in the link below.

Thank you, sorry first posting. I just read the beginers guide you gave the link to. I have amended it and included the book reference for the material

Surnames

Per MOS:APO, "may refer to" is not the preferred wording for the lede on a set index article. The reason why they don't qualify as dab pages in the first place is because the surname alone doesn't "refer" to someone except in certain cases. —Xezbeth (talk) 06:49, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

In many (most?) countries people are normally referred to by their surname only, as [Title] [Surname], like in Dr. Smith, Mr. Smith, etc., and the title is often omitted. Say, in Japan it is omitted, so as in Wikipedia articles, where we normally refer to people by surname only. Am I missing something? Materialscientist (talk) 07:28, 19 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I received a message about not having the source available, however I just added more to the context it was already there. I am one of the directors of the team and the article had not been created by someone in the team, therefore I was adding the whole context of the article. In addition, I attempted to add pictures and was not authorized. I would really like to be able to keep the changes I had made as I spent a good hour working on them and also be able to add pictures, so that I can load the teams logo and other pictures.

DYKUpdateBot may be down

Materialscientist, the DYKHousekeepingBot has been down since sometime after 14:41 today, or a little over eight hours. If whatever took it down also took down DYKUpdateBot, then the update scheduled for a little over an hour from now won't happen.

I have just notified Shubinator, so there's a slight chance that he'll have both bots up and working by then, but he usually isn't around so early. There's also the chance that DYKUpdateBot might self-heal (as it sometimes does) and do the update as scheduled, even while DYKHousekeepingBot remains hors de combat.

If you could check a few minutes after midnight UTC to see whether the bot is around, and do a manual update if not, that would be great. Thank you very much. The only other person who does manual updates, Allen3, hasn't been around much lately, but you may want to check prior to starting to be sure he hasn't shown up and started the ball rolling. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:59, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like Allen3 was watching, and has started the update. Thanks for standing by. You might want to check back in 12 hours to see if the noon UTC update goes off as scheduled... BlueMoonset (talk) 00:08, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I knew this could happen and hence was just watching him doing the update. To avoid conflicts, I would update only if Allen3 would not be available. Cheers. Materialscientist (talk) 00:22, 22 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Potguru unblock request

Would it be okay for me to unblock User:Potguru? I feel he was understandably upset and lost his cool. The risk of further disruption if unblocked is probably very, very low. I promise to communicate with him at his talk page and keep an eye on things. He is a newcomer who spent a dozen hours creating a huge article and he has the potential to be a good, longterm editor. An early unblock would be a nice gesture. Many thanks for your consideration. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:59, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request on hold

You have already been pinged about the unblock request at User talk:1davey29 and have not responded, so very probably you have no opinion to express, which would not surprise me, since this was a routine block for trivial reasons over five years ago. However, once before I lifted a block where the blocking admin hadn't responded to a ping, and it turned out that for some reason he had not received the ping, so I am contacting you here to make sure. Can you let me know what you think? Even if the answer is "no opinion", it will help if you can say so, and ping me so that I know. Pete Hawkes article

Deleted very quickly and without reason my changes. In regards to the Pete Hawkes article the update was on on albums in disography is via itunes which is the source and you can check them yourself. You should reverse these changes because these are new albums and by deleting them you have not allowed me to update what you're supposed to do in Wiki which is to keep abreast of real changes. Your pretty quick with the gun there mate. Guilty until proven innocent

On the biography there is no source needed as they are additional comments supporting the existing sources. To be honest I get very annoyed when you have a go at something like this at wiki only to find the 'nerd school' using what they deem to be their power to delete everything in sight.

Only a suggestion but it might be good to get a girlfriend and spend less time editing volumes of stuff. I have done nothing but update albums and a few lines which is perfectly valid. You have detracted from my experience of wiki and it does not make me want to be involved when you do things like this. You should reverse the minimal changes. You should also check details before going straight to delete

(talk page stalker)Interesting points. Maybe in turn you should check out our policies on civility and personal attacks, and reflect on the saying that you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Your comments above do not seem to be a wise approach to starting to edit in a collaborative environment. Best wishes DBaK (talk) 14:38, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is a complaint against User:ARNAB22 ...Sir i just found out from the talk page of this user that even u have asked him to behave. But he simply refuses to do so. For instance, on the Bollywood wikipedia page, he has been posting a new pic of Shah Rukh Khan even though there is already a pic of Shah Rukh given there. And in the caption he writes that Shah Rukh has won "most number of awards", without giving any citation. Every time someone removes this pic and citation, he again posts it there, despite being warned against this. He recently did this on 20 Jan, 2016. In addition, he uses poor English in many of his other edits, and has been warned on this too by other users (see his talk page). I request you to take action against User:ARNAB22. Question regarding deletion of article

Dear,

I am writing you in the name of organizing team of Sarajevo Summer Law School. I got a notification that you deleted my article " Sarajevo Summer Law School" and because of that I am writing to you. I wrote about students' organization and about our third project that is going to be organized in summer this year in Sarajevo. The European Law Students' Association Bosnia and Herzegovina is one part of The European Law Students' Association international (ELSA international), actually it is national group within ELSA international ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Law_Students%27_Association#ELSA_International ).

We think that it is very important for public to get information about this project and summer schools, and also there is great interest among students. We believe that wikipedia is the best source of information and one of the easiest ways to access information. We also believe that publishing article on this website is very useful and desirable, so it can increase chances of success of our project. Sarajevo Summer Law School and Elsa B&H have their official websites which I mentioned in my article, so I did not plagiarize written article. Because of importance of this article for us and this project we would like to know the reason why is our page deleted.

I would be grateful if you can give me some advice or sugegstion about my article so I can improve the content of the article, because it is very important for us to have it on Wikipedia. As long as you do not approve our webpage, we cannot create another page about this project.

I look forward to your answer, Kind regards, Sarajevo Summer Law School

Agnes Herbert ( Agnes Elsie Field born Thorpe)

470 Oak Forest Place, Kingsport. TN.37664-5562. 24th January 2016. email - lfshone@gmail.com Materialscientist

I am Dudley K. Shone and I wrote the biography of Agnes Elsie Thorpe (Agnes Herbert) which you removed from the Wikipedia because no references were given. I will provide the background information as to why there are no references.
My wife is Lorna Florence born Field and her grandfather and the grandfather of William George Herbert Field were brothers.
We wrote and printed A History of a Field Family - Dudley K. Shone and Lorna F. Field Shone - of which copies were donated to a number of libraries including that of the Mormon Church in Salt Lake City.
The information on Agnes Elsie Thorpe is in Volume 2, pages 279 - 291 and as far as I am aware is the only printed biography of her.
Instead of giving this publication as the sole reference I thought it preferable to provide the source of the information in the text so it could be verified if deemed necessary.
As you will note the original biographical information on Agnes Herbert in Wikipedia is, with the exception of Agnes Elsie Diana Stewart (Agnes Herbert) appointment of the OBE, incorrect.
I would also have deleted the two references in the original article if I knew how.
To provide you with some background information I qualified as a veterinarian.
I was chief veterinary research officer in Southern Rhodesia from 1952 to 1962. I then joined SK&F Laboratories in South Africa and established a veterinary pharmaceutical product research and development laboratory.
In 1968 I was made CEO of SK&F Laboratories human and veterinary and consumer product company for Southern Africa. In 1978 I filled the same position in the Netherlands.
In 1981 I moved to Philadelphia where I directed new product development and provided scientific service for the international operation.
Should you decide to include my biography of Agnes Elsie Thorpe in Wikipedia please make whatever editorial changes you deem necessary, as I will not be pursuing it further.
    Yours faithfully,
         Dudley K. Shone

Ford CVH engine edits removed

Hi! I got notified when opening a related page on the english Wikipedia that changes i made a while back to the wiki page on the Ford CVH engine was removed by reason of a lack of written source. Sorry to say, but i cannot refer to one as this information was recited from what might simply be referred to as a bit of workshop talk - about how one since then retired Ford mechanic nearby Stockholm, Sweden once found himself with no less than three of these engines on the workshop floor, all with busted bottom ends and connecting rods shot through the engine block. As i remember, both the crankshaft and the rods are prone to breaking if/when the timing belt snaps, making the valves hit the pistons. Unfortunally, the only thing i have to back that story up is that some british motorsports enthusiasts have mentioned the same issue in online forum discussions, so this failure seems to be a quite common phenomenon. As much so that some have replaced the bottom end with that of one of the Zetec engine family (possibly the 1.8L, memory escapes me there)which has in the same manner of collective fan base knowledge has been reported to be mostly a "bolt-on" operation as this particular Zetec engine was developed from the CVH but with the weak spots reworked. I might have another go at this subject (if so, propably even sign up an account ;-)) and maybe somewhere there are official documents to be sourced on the subject, but for the time being this is all i have. Perhaps someone else can shed more light on this issue? /Best regards, HB.

Repeated disruptions by User:Funkatastic

I was wondering if you could take a look at the behavior of User:Funkatastic. This editor keeps adding Bubbling Under chart peaks in discographies. He claims everywhere that Bubbling Under peaks are extensions of Hot 100, thus it's WP:CALC. I recently reported him at AN/I for disrupting Rick Ross discography, where he was adding Bubbling Under peaks with sources that dis not supported those peaks. At AN/I, other editors explained to him that Bubbling Under peaks are not extensions of Hot 100, while he seems to have stopped doing that at Rick Ross discography, he still continues to add them in other discographies including at 2 Chainz discography. Can something be done about this editor?--Harout72 (talk) 16:04, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

McKay King was working for me in fact, as representing the Breweries when we had the TV commercials made to promote the chain of restaurants known as Cobb & Co, then owned by the Breweries. Why revert this?

Hello, why did you revert my edit to the ETA DAB page here [12]? I know WP is not wiktionary, but lots of DAB pages have acronym/abbreviation usage. E.g. DOB. I didn't think "edited to add" deserved a whole article the way estimated time of arrival does, but I can't see how my entry is not helping people or is in anyway detracting from the DAB page in question. I specifically put it there after someone on the ref desk was confused about someone else's usage of 'ETA'. If there's some policy or guideline that you can point me to, I'd appreciate it. Also, it looks like you really are a material scientist, so please consider checking by the reference desks now and then, I often wish we had a regular user who could help us with some of the questions we get there that are beyond our level of expertise in materials (also the current group frequent ref desk responders who are also actual experts in some field is a group that could stand to grow IMO :) SemanticMantis (talk) 23:24, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I saw no evidence of notability (and that abbreviation is unknown to me). We may not include obscure abbreviations. Materialscientist (talk) 23:48, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, thanks. If that's the main reason, then I'll likely restore "edited to add" usage tomorrow. I still don't think it deserves a whole article, but I am confident it deserves mention. It is clearly something in common use and something people ask about. This way, if someone types ETA into the search box, they will be able to see it as one of many options, rather than going away confused as they would presently. As I said, I added it because someone had expressed specific confusion over it at the reference desk, and I myself was unaware of it until a few years ago. I ended up using some other less-good source and context to figure it out. It seems the usage is more common recently, and I think mostly it is an internet forum thing, so I probably could have written something better than "used in editing". I don't think there's any WP:NOTABLE guidelines specific to abbreviations, but using OMG, WTF, and other similar DABs related to internet slang as guideline, I think I'm on decent ground here. Here's a selection of places where people ask about it and define the usage of ETA as "edited to add" : [13] [14] [15] [16]. Here [17] [18] are a few WP talk pages that illustrate this usage, and many more examples can be found. My only goal is to add information that people will find helpful, and I think this entry is entirely consistent with how similar situations are handled. I just wanted to check with you before reinstating in case there was something I was missing. Cheers, SemanticMantis (talk) 02:11, 27 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

constructive?

I'd say you definitely undervalue ethnobotany and factual curiosity in general. I am astounded you have no interest in what wood premier wooden toilet seats are made from. ► [[Neptune is Winning as Sea Levels Rise]

This is a modern re-take of a Judge cartoon from 1897 PUSH DEM CLOUDS AWAY with my redesigned cartoon warning about Global Warming. My first attempt to add this new cartoon was rejected as advertising my work.

I am looking for help and advice to resubmit to a more suitable topic area like an article on Judge Cartoons. My proposal is to insert the original 1897 PUSH DEM CLOUDS AWAY image with new cartoon and text stating this collection of cartoons was a wonderful resource. This sample cartoon [[Neptune is Winning as Sea Levels Rise]
will inspire new cartoons and help the public understand real issues, not just funny ones. I would welcome successful help from a third party, to do this on my behave. I do not wish to advertise, only to promote the risks to global warming. Mike Mumford 10:31, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[1]

Why?

Source quotes scientific research, is dedicated to olive cultivation. The "Growth and propagation" paragraph in the article is bare of any (!!!) citation. This is needed. Or do you dislike the poor English? Not a good criterium. It's perfectly intelligible. The reader wants info, which is lacking in the article. Suggestion: bring better sources, then remove all poorer ones! Agreed? I'm not talking theory, I looked up the page looking for info on olive tree REPRODUCTION, and - found NOTHING useful. Then I found this other page - and got all I wanted. And it looks BETTER based in both science and agricultural practice than the WP article. That's all anyone should care for. Vandalism

The notion that I'm deliberately trying to sabotage Wikipedia is preposterous.

On vandalism: The notion of something being anti-Jewish is inherently a loaded claim. When Wikipedia's narrative uses it in the context of presenting the facts, it betrays a bias. That's especially true given the paragraphs following the terms I replaced being addressed to a specific group within the Jewish people.

On Original Research:

Original research refers to a series of researched reconstituted facts mixed with opinion. A logical argument does not fit that bill.

Have a wonderful day, brother or sister :) I would appreciate you not automatically removing my posts, but being enough fair-minded to judge on a case-by-case basis.

List of chemistry mnemonics

Hello there. I realize that I didn't properly capitalize the mnemonic I added to List of chemistry mnemonics, hence it got classified as spam. Like many of the other mnemonics on that page, I have no citation for it, but be aware that it is quite popular in some areas for memorizing electronegativities due to its sounding like a name, much like ROY G BIV. 67.141.86.253 (talk) 23:55, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible sock?

When you blocked ThatOneGuyLol, a new user by the name of JustAHelpfulPerson was created and started editing the same page. Do you think they're connected? Anarchyte (work | talk) 01:06, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Somaliland

Hello, I don't think your edits to Somaliland are neutral. All information on the page should have their official titles and the Somaliland page should have all info, as stated from official sources like somalilandgov.com. Double check the sources on that page, you got opinion articles from third-party websites as sources.

Reblock for User:98.112.234.68 please

The user was blocked by you on 1 January for vandalism, for I'm guessing a week? He's since back and in full swing again - his only interest appears to be the removal of cn or refimprove templates without providing references. Could you block again, please? I've reverted his fresh output. Cheers -- Elmidae (talk) 06:05, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted my update on Biswajit Chatterjee but I appreciate

Hi Materialscientist You deleted an update I made on Biswajit Chatterjee. It is difficult to cite a source at this point of time, although the news did find place on and around 31 March 2012 in newspapers and media. Moreover the ceremony was organized by me, and this can also be verified from the legendary actor of yesteryear. It you permit I can add the information again, or leave it as it is. But I sincerely appreciate your good efforts to maintain authenticity, and that it just what Wikipedia should be known for. All the best, Gautam Chakraborti

sample

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sample&oldid=prev&diff=702247656 Maybe you can comment on the fact that sample (material) has category Category:Analytical chemistry (which I do not entirely agree on either)? -- Kku 11:17, 29 January 2016 (UTC)

It happened historically so that we've got a number of prolific chemistry and biology editors on this wiki, a few editors in geology and experimental physics, and almost none in materials science. As a result our editing (categories, etc.) is slanted toward chemistry. The term sample is common for all those sciences (and perhaps others).
