Revision as of 08:34, 12 September 2019

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

    Livin' on a Prayer

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Binksternet (talk) 05:05, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This is somewhat tricky....undoubtedly we have 2 disruptive IVP6 IPs who edit in bursts with several days between them...so I would tend to report them to AIV and get them blocked, and wouldn't protect. But I'll defer this to my esteemed colleagues. Lectonar (talk) 10:01, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
User(s) blocked. – Special:Contributions/2600:1700:860:71F0::/64 blocked for two weeks. That covers both of the IPv6's you mentioned. EdJohnston (talk) 04:11, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Committee for a Workers' International

Temporary Full Protection: active edit warring with no talk page discussion. Golightlys (talk) 14:31, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Fully protected -- Deepfriedokra 15:12, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    Note: Both sides have surpassed 3RR -- Deepfriedokra 15:12, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Doraemon in India

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Page has been vandalised very frequently in recent days with self promotion, false information, unsourced claims. User 261115 (talk) 16:12, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Debian

Permanent semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Page has been vandalised four times in recent days by 109.10.155.228 with false, unsourced information. Jchap1590 (talk) 16:42, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. This is well within the realm of a normal editing disagreement, especially since it seems the IP user has posted on the talk page. –Darkwind (talk) 06:18, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Censored Eleven

Semi-protection: The article covers a very sensitive matter, and concerns regarding opinionated editing such as trying to paint these cartoons as not racist/depict those who object to the sterotypes they portray as oversensitive lead me to believe this article ought to be more protected. James Gordon (talk) 19:39, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Not done -- Deepfriedokra 19:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Note: One edit in four months. -- Deepfriedokra 19:45, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    The Magic Roundabout (film)

    Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – persistent disruptive editing and editwarring. Atlantic306 (talk) 19:39, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. –Darkwind (talk) 06:21, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Vorarephilia

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Vandalism since August 30th by a vandalism SPA and two IPs starting with 191. -Crossroads- (talk) 23:02, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. –Darkwind (talk) 06:27, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Roads are constantly being vandalized by one person. . Tornadosurvivor2011 23:07, 11 September 2019 (UTC)

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. –Darkwind (talk) 06:28, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Shooting of Daniel Shaver

Temporary semi-protection or at least Pending Changes. Previous protection template has expired, but (predictably) anonymous IP vandalism/POV editing has continued. Muzilon (talk) 00:12, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. There have only been two disruptive edits in the month or so since the last protection expired. –Darkwind (talk) 06:39, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Solaire Resort & Casino

Temporary semi-protection. Previous protection template has expired, but we want the page to be protected from anonymous IP vandalism or from these IP addresses making false claims: 204.44.189.63, 202.47.154.60, and 121.55.193.68 Manila1211 (talk) 03:02, 12 September 2019 (UTC)Manila1211[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. –Darkwind (talk) 06:44, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    MARCOS

Pending Changes: I have recently polished this article and have corrected several copyvios. People add POVs to this article without giving any source.--Vaibhavafro (talk) 03:18, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. –Darkwind (talk) 06:49, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Oxford Entrepreneurs

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism, unsubstantiated and slanderous remarks, false information, and unsourced claims.

Semi-protected – You meant to say the article not the talk page. The *article* is now semiprotected for two months. I left a note on the talk page about the 'scandal' charges, which seem to be unsourced. If you notice them being restored, please let admins know at once. EdJohnston (talk) 04:33, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@EdJohnston: Thanks for keeping Wikipedia vandal-free. Would it be possible to request removal of the edit history with those libelous and unsourced claims as well? Some of the allegations were levied at specific and identifiable individuals, with no apparent grounding in reality. 86.2.116.118 (talk) 07:04, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pending-changes protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. For the first, second and fourth. For the third there is not enough disruption. Lectonar (talk) 08:34, 12 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

List of Kid vs. Kat episodes

List of Kid vs. Kat episodes (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Reason: Has been held hostage in jail for 8 3/4 years by Bearcat. Why that insanely long? Its Americanized counterpart's episode guide isn't locked up but this is. As for one of Kathleen Barr's previous shows the main page along with character/episode guide is not escaping anytime soon. And here's another not animated but its companion limited series spinoff was to be escaped: List of Henry Danger episodes List of Henry Danger episodes (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

    Good night,

    @Bearcat: any thoughts? Lectonar (talk) 11:42, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
At the time this page was editprotected, it had gone through a campaign, literally months long by the time I stepped in, of having fake content about a non-existent third season added before getting reverted by responsible editors and then readded by vandals again within one to three days. ("The kat in a top varek cat ston wen po doaskrf korc dgdvftg fgfdsz godk ot hroccvdd" is a particularly egregious example of the kinds of plot descriptions that the weirdos were adding to their fake new episodes — and just for the record, that's an actual literal copy-paste of an actual edit to the article.) And no, the shitposting wasn't consistently coming from one IP number, either — it was coming from many different IP numbers, so semi-protecting the page at the "autoconfirmed" level was the only way to make the bull droppings stop. That's the reason why this article and Invader Zim's were handled differently: this article was subjected to a months-long barrage of concerted vandalism, while Invader Zim's wasn't.
As most established Wikipedia editors know, one of the unfortunate side-effects of our open editing structure is that people don't all only edit Wikipedia responsibly: people do vandalize Wikipedia by adding hoax information and total nonsense and POV statements of opinion and other edits that violate our rules, and the various levels of page protection are sometimes the only way we can make them stop. So I'm certainly not wedded to the idea that the page necessarily has to stay semi-protected anymore, although I will say that semi-protection is an incredibly low bar to step over — it's such an easy level of protection to surmount that complaining about it instead of taking the two incredibly easy steps (registering a username and then making just 10 edits to other articles to unlock the "autoconfirmed" achievement) needed to get around it is automatically a red flag to potential ulterior motives in and of itself.
But if there's one thing semi-protection isn't, that's "holding the article hostage in jail" — many, many editors who did follow those two easy steps have been able to edit the article without difficulty, so the article is hardly hostage to anything. Bearcat (talk) 13:56, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Certainly if any non auto confirmed editor has a constructive edit to make, they can request an edit. Have there been any such requests and is the number of honored requests indicative of a net positive to unprotection?-- Deepfriedokra 16:43, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
There were six edit requests overall in 2011 and 2012, but three were literally just blank requests with no indication whatsoever of what changes were actually desired at all; one was merely about cleaning up a bit of WP:COPYVIO; and two related specifically to the non-existent third season (although mercifully they were about cleaning up stray bits of vandalism that had been missed, not adding new vandalism). So none of them actually involved adding any substantive new content, and there hasn't been an edit request of any sort made in seven years. Bearcat (talk) 16:54, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
    I say, "leave be".-- Deepfriedokra 16:55, 11 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
