I nominated him, so am not the most independent to judge ;) - and I'm already busy with the next, a woman, but mostly not foreign. - I really think we have some unintended bias there: the most prominent figures (white U.S. males) get speedy attention, and appear soon at the top position, while the female foreigners - often reported late to start with - take so long to even be noticed that they get only a place towards the end, finally, - as long as we go by date of death and not "in at the top". Thank you. The church pic - as you will have seen - is in my user infobox for 2021. I don't know the singer personally, but she sang for us several times, Bach's great works (all explained if you follow the link, also (below there) that some like to receive my thanks and appreciation), and she sang recently in cantata services that I pictured (her page). On all these pictures, she is too small for "about her", and my lead is smaller "about me", of course. - I knew nothing about the translator, but she was a red link on Deaths in 2021. The bitter-sweetness is between her and her ex-husband, a novelist with an article who wrote her obit. (They had four children when they were divorced, and now he has ten.) - The delegate called me to task for the Bach cantata, so I will have to not follow spontaneous impulses for a few days, - hope no one dies whose article has to be written. In the cantata, BWV 1, I have a problem. The article was all built on one source (and all other Bach cantatas at the time also, btw) which one user denies reliability. I wanted to keep it, supporting it for all facts - only recordings, anyway - by a second source, trying to be faithful to the article history and to retain what editors did before me. He removed it. Just understood that moments ago (the ping). Anyway, in general, restrictions are added by need only. The general consensus among admins is to wait and see, and only if needed add 1RR. Sorry, I'm far from an authority on infoboxes, Qexigator, so short of pointing you to the MOS:INFOBOX-obvious, I would just advise you to avoid WP:ARBINFOBOX2 at all cost! Regards, El_C 18:13, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

Some users get hot about infoboxes, while for others it's the normal thing to have. Before adding an infobox to an article without one, check for warnings in edit mode, and for discussions on the talk page. Recent example Ian Fleming, nonono. Innisfree Garden

Back from sun and snow: sorry if that landed wrong. I was a bit in a rush, and reacted to "all roads lead to IF". I don't care about IF, at all, the number of my edits to his article is zero, the number of my edits to the talk page is zero. I had not thought of him in years until the ongoing RfC, and my edits will remain zero. I use his name as an example, because - with the RfC going - I can mention it, otherwise if I mentioned a name from the group someone would come and cry "canvassing".

I thought about the animosity, and what I can trace back (because I really don't understand it), and looked at what I wrote about Ian Fleming on the page deleted as a call to battle. I made a note of the name, that it was infobox person (red background indicating that it was lost) and the above-mentioned diff of a good version from 2012 piped to the date. That's all. I had forgotten until I looked it up now that my friend had made the good version. When we lost him (later that year) I spread the image all over the Wikipedias, even Hebrew (with some help from a friend from Jerusalem). No, it doesn't. It could just ebb. In 2018, it was no concern. Why is it now? Why can't we just edit the little boxes as other content: someone adds, and if someone reverts, consensus needs to be established. Instead, someone adding, or requesting, or just asking where it went, is considered a warrior. The question where it went often goes like this: when a certain group of editors expanded an article, they collapsed it (thinking that was a compromise, but making life harder for those having physical trouble to click the "show" button). That caused a little edit-war, which was "resolved" by taking it away completely, with a discussion like this on the talk following. Ever since, we have been reminded that there was this consensus not to have one, and we are supposed to believe that. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:10, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

For sure, I am like-minded with you in that interpretation. WP:ONUS should generally be observed, like elsewhere. Indeed, there really isn't an excuse for not doing so. In theory, per WP:ARBINFOBOX2, WP:ACDS allows admins to just straight-up make it (ONUS) a requirement by adding Consensus required to intractable infobox disputes. My sense is that most admins just do not want to touch these because it usually ends up amounting to a zero-sum game, at best — myself, I don't really engage infobox disputes in an AE capacity, because the history and politics AE topic areas keep me busy enough (diff). Hi El_C. I'm asking since you've always adminned in a balanced way in this topic area while staying uninvolved in the actual disputes. Would you consider putting transgender people in sports (history) under extended confirmed protection per the gender DS? Or at least semiprotection. This is an extremely contentious and politicized topic in the media right now, and we've just had this editor show up. I had to revert that due to its WP:BLP violations against a scientist working in this area (calling her "bad faith", and citing a blog and engaging in OR to push a narrative about her) as well as numerous violations of WP:MEDRS. This absolutely won't be the last time disruption is a problem at this article. This is no different than climate change or GMOs where scientific articles say one thing while politicized media sources and soundbites can be used to say something else. A helpful tip (well, two)

You can bypass pawaylling in a number of newspaper websites by either 1) clicking the browser's stop button before the page loads with some annoying "subscribe" overlay or 2) even better, read the article in the Internet Archive. Since many newspapers paywall stuff only a few days after the initial writeup, you can get the day 1 version in IA quite often. A new account Seemitfe (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) is moving the titles of articles about medieval Albanian figures to Italian renderings which have typing errors. I can't move them back because of the technical limitation of reverting back a page to its original name The page could not be moved: a page of that name already exists, or the name you have chosen is not valid. These pages are: Gjon Muzaka moved to Giovanni Musachi (the correct Italian rendering is Musacchi), Lekë Dushmani moved to Lek Dushman (I accidentally moved it to Lekë Dushman I tried to revert it), Gjergj Arianiti moved to George Aryaniti. They also moved the Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu National Museum (official name) to Museum of Skanderbeg. They've tried the same changes before [9][10]. I have none of these articles in my watchlist and I wasn't aware of the changes at the time. Probably there will be even more similar users in the future. Sorry to waste your time there. I really did not know the appropriate venue, since it seems like the GS/DS were saying protection can be done by any admin with lots of deference to where they feel it is appropriate, but there doesn't really seem to be a venue to request it other than {{admin help}} or RFPP. I suppose it could have gone to ArbE? But weird since that isn't usually what that board is used for. And it's even more confusing that the other templates I referenced don't have formal "consensus required" restrictions on them like they probably should, but instead just editnotices. All in all, very confusing. But I respect your need to have a uniform requirement for RFPP, and I didn't want to waste your time more than necessary to get the answer. So thank you, and carry on with the good mopping, Cow Man. And carry on with the good humor. Shibbolethink, if I can try sharpening again, I think the crux of the matter is about the imposition of a preemptive protection (or a CR DS, sure) exception, which isn't really done unless clearly imminent, in an immediate sense. That's a value, I have found, that seems to be increasingly universally shared among the admin crops. I don't even remember the last page I protected preemptively besides the Jill Biden bio after the election (from none to indef semi), and likewise (and far, far less importantly), the Jewish space lasers redirect (*Pew! Pew!). Thus, the general imperative is to deal with problems as they arise, without straying too much outside the margins of immediacy. That means that preemptive exceptions will tend to be quite extraordinary in nature (often with a BLP component). Hope that makes sense. Best regards, El_C 16:19, 9 August 2021 (UTC)

Oh, now I'm remembering where I'd seen that complaint. As I recall, RexxS was telling ProcrastinatingReader that his changes to the DS template were removing that feature. In answer to your question: that particular semiprotection was an Arbitration enforcement action, a protection action which was largely enacted so as to ensure that the standards set in Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine) are upheld (example). Thanks for answering. I agree that in the long run we should endeavour to cite medical textbooks etc. But at the beginning of a new disease, or new variants as in this case, such textbooks do not yet exist. I think you are setting the bar too high at this early stage.

IP, I'm not going to do that. What I've done is the prevailing practice atm. If you wish to address any outstanding issues, you're welcome to do so on the article talk page (Talk:Variants of SARS-CoV-2). That's largely what it's for. If you wish to edit the article directly, you may do so by registering an account and gaining the WP:CONFIRM tenure, which isn't too high a threshold (10 edits / 4 days). I can't really comment on that example, specifically, as I lack the knowledge to do so, but the strict sourcing requirements of WP:MEDRS as currently applied to the pandemic is what it is. It isn't something which, I, myself, had set by fiat. In fact, like yourself, I'm on the record that in certain respects, the bar indeed should be lowered, but right now this does not seem to be the general sentiment. Dear El_C, I left a message earlier asking you for a third opinion in Talk:Kingdom of Commagene#Recent revert. I also used WP:THIRD, with no replies back. Please consider looking at that talk section and if you'd be kind enough, give your opinion as a third party. I can't resolve that dispute, I'm starting to think that the editor has a certain POV and uses their much higher experience as bullying tactics. They reverted my edit again without even replying in talk diff. I feel like I'm starting to repeat myself, and I can't come to a conclusion with the user.
