Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by ElementR (talk | contribs) at 15:32, 21 July 2008 (Requesting full protection of World War_II. (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Zadar (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

temporary full protection. Ongoing edit war by User:Ragusino, backed by an IP address that may or may not be Ragusino on one side, and consensus on the other side. Ragusino has been requested to come to the talk page on various occasions but prefers to revert war. Temporary protection will hopefully encourage him/her to discuss. Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Thanks, PeterSymonds (talk) 15:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected While users don't own their userpage, if the user wishes it to be protected, I see no reason not to grant it. PeterSymonds (talk) 15:29, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Fernando Meira (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect, persistent vandalism. A move to Galatasaray or any other club by this player isn't confirmed by VfB Stuttgart. In this moment he is player of VfB Stuttgart. Please stop the IP-Edits and semi-protect the page! Yoda1893 (talk) 14:31, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Arabian Gulf rugby union team (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protection, persistent vandalism. This is the name that the Arabian Gulf Rugby Football Union uses itself, but because of the Persian Gulf naming dispute, "Arabian" gets constantly changed to Persian. I am neutral on this subject, but this is the proper name. As this is a long term problem, and temporary protection will not solve it. Better to disallow unregistered users from editing it.--MacRusgail (talk) 12:33, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

(EC-I was going to decline this.) All of the vandalism was from a pair of IP addresses, both of whom were blocked. Horologium (talk) 11:22, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I had not noticed that both were blocked, but in any event 1 week of semi-protection as decided by PeterSymonds (talk · contribs) seems appropriate. Cirt (talk) 12:06, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Roblox (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Please remove the Creation Protection on the article. I have written a new one at User:Briguy9876/Roblox and I have fixed whatever the page was deleted for in the first place. Thanks. --Briguy9876 (talk) 17:52, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. Article still lacks reliable sources, though it is an improvement over the version that was deleted at AfD. I suggest that you find more sources, and when ready, apply at WP:DRV for recreation of the article. EdJohnston (talk) 01:03, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please see http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=de3_1216399524 . In this video Barack Obama believes a "Bomb fell on Pearl Harbor." !!! Quote : "Throughout our history, America's confronted constantly evolving danger, from the oppression of an empire, to the lawlessness of the frontier, from the bomb that fell on Pearl Harbor, to the threat of nuclear annihilation. Americans have adapted to the threats posed by an ever-changing world." End of Quote. Fascinating !!. 79.210.67.39 (talk) 17:30, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Morrison (footballer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Was deleted and protected due to the player spending his entire career at Cambridge United, thus never playing a Football League match. He has now signed for Leicester City, a Football League One team, so he is entitled to a page, or will be should he play once the season kicks off. Would like to be able to start the article. --MikeMetaled (talk) 00:55, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. The article was deleted for the fifth time on 18 July, and is now salted against recreation. Please address the deleting admin, Number 57. I doubt that an article will be allowed unless he actually takes the field for the new team. EdJohnston (talk) 01:13, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oklahoma City National Basketball Association team (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

semi-protect and/or move protect. High level of changes and page moves to add speculation about the name. The consensus has been to leave the page in the current place and not add the name until the NBA makes an official announcement. Cacophony (talk) 02:25, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I have move protected this article for one month and left a note on the talk page. I realize that one month is overkill, but it will prevent moves until the official announcement is made. When a reliable source reports that a team name has been announced, I (or another admin) will remove the move protection. Until that time, it should stay at its current location. Semi protect. Nearly all anon edits over the past month or so are spam/vandalism. Almost all the registered-user edits consist of reverting the anons. A lot of wasted energy is being expended on this article. =Axlq 23:59, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ben Alekzsander Williams (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Please can you "un-protect" the article. Because of the fame of this person and the many requests for it to be created - it should be created. Thankyou. --CrackersTeam (talk) 21:15, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    Note: I've left a note with the protecting administrator. - Rjd0060 (talk) 23:17, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
While this editor is not a pure single purpose account, the main purpose of Crackers' edits has been to publicize this Williams and his band (there's also been a bit of vandalism to Penis, and a self-nomination for adminship). If Crackers really believes that Williams and/or the band are notable, I would suggest that a sandbox be created at User:CrackersTeam/The Comics (band), and that a draft article be created there for us to look at. In the meantime, I see no need to unsalt this article. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:17, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

International reaction to the 2008 Kosovo declaration of independence (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Full Protection edit warring, POV problems, general fighting, ect The experiment to see if this article could last seems to have failed and a full protect should fix it, the talk page is a war, theres alot of fighting between almost every user and tocino, the article would benefit from a full protect, --Jakezing (talk) 16:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • Comment - there is a an agreement to take all the issues that are problematic to the talk page first. It was also agreed by admins to severely punish those who get involved in edit wars on this article. But it takes admin action to block the user or warn which is not happening so far. A few users have reopened the Pandora's box by reverting back and forth based on "consensus" they have created with a few other users sharing their POV. The problem emerged when a few users with the same pov decided to cut a few pieces of article by saying "consensus, consensus" but I don't think consensus means much if it was made in order to destroy the article. So instead of locking up the article for a few months like the last time consider dropping by from time to time as it is not any article but a highly controversial that can get out of hands. I am doing my best to create the discussion on problematic issues but sometimes it's hard with people who have ill intentions so they spam, slander and so on but we are still managing to get out of these troubles.--Avala (talk) 16:53, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Avala, you know what thios goes down to, its not just that edit war, tocino keeps brining up alot of BS, you know that, and tha admins WILL NOT do anything because they like him, This article wont benefit fro madmin watching, and we have a majority vote of 9 to 1, 9 to remove, 1 to keep em, and ussualy, the 9 wins.--Jakezing (talk) 16:55, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This is the main problem, when you call other editor's contributions "BS" you can't expect anything nice in return. How about trying to discuss the matter with him for a change rather than attacking. Also saying how admins prefer some users over others is not helpful either because it's simply not true (though admins could show preference to a user over an IP user who joined Wikipedia just to enter the fight). I didn't participate in that vote but I still don't understand the point in creating a consensus to delete a few things of the list without any strong scheme of what should be deleted. But it's not the subject for this place.--Avala (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We tried. We've triedalot. I even suggested he take a break from wikipedia or atleast the articles in realtion to why we all don't like him. he said he had to be there to make sure "us seperatist supporters" don't take over the article. --Jakezing (talk) 17:41, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The relevant changes were done by consensus and above all with due deliberation (consensus does not mean that one single editor wields a veto power). So I don't see a problem here. If the edit warring starts again, the question of a page protection should be discussed again. --DaQuirin (talk) 18:16, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It Will, we all know it will just because, either we remove tocino or we get a protection, no middle ground.--Jakezing (talk) 18:18, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Declined I'm not sure why it took 2 days to act on this, however, there has not been much activity of the article since then. If the edit warring resumes, please leave another note here, or on my talk page, and I'll be more than happy to look into it again, and issue block(s) or protection. - Rjd0060 (talk) 23:12, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection Page is still subject to random, nonsensical edits from unregistered users, such as unconfirmed (and ridiculous) songs and instruments performed on the album. Dig Out Your Soul was nominated (and approved) for protection before, but the article received full-protection status which proved to be extreme, counter productive and ultimately ineffective. Semi-protection status would make registered users accountable for the edits being made. Darwin's Bulldog (talk) 20:17, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
