Event information
Wikimedia’s gender trouble is well-documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge.
Let’s change that. Join us at the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Education and Research Building at the Museum of Modern Art, 4 West 54 Street, on Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm for an all day communal updating of Wikipedia entries on subjects related to art and feminism. No museum admission necessary.
We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, reference materials, childcare, and refreshments. Bring your laptop, power cord and ideas for entries that need updating or creation. For the editing-averse, we urge you to stop by to show your support. Childcare requires advance registration on Eventbrite by March 2; please also email us at info@art.plusfeminism.org to let us know first names and number of children requiring care, their ages, and what time you plan on attending. People of all gender identities and expressions, particularly transgender, cisgender, and gender nonconforming women, are invited to participate.
This event is organized by Siân Evans/Art Libraries Society of North America’s Women and Art Special Interest Group, Jacqueline Mabey/failed projects, and Michael Mandiberg, in collaboration with Professional Organization for Women in the Arts (POWarts) and the Museum of Modern Art, with support from Wikimedia NYC.
