Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 84.189.207.1 (talk) at 17:42, 1 April 2018 (→‎Draft:RootsTrust: new section). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome. Please note that this page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions or rejected Articles for creation drafts), or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. This page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be userfied, restored as a draft or emailed to you so the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here). This means that content deleted after discussion—at articles for deletion, categories for discussion, or miscellany for deletion among other deletion processes—may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided at all.

This page is only for requesting undeletion of articles or files which have already been deleted. If the article you are concerned about is still visible, but has a warning message (template) at the top, please do not post here, but follow the instructions in the template or on your talk page. Please do not request that articles deleted under speedy deletion criteria A7, G4, G5, G11 or G12 be undeleted here.

Note that requests for undeletion are not a replacement for deletion review. If you feel an administrator has erred in closing a deletion discussion or in applying a speedy deletion criterion, please contact them directly. If you discuss but are unable to resolve the issue on their talk page, it should be raised at Wikipedia:Deletion review, rather than here.

    Instructions for special cases

    Massacre of Brzostowica Mała

First, my vote count suggest 'no consensus' rather than preference delete (merge 1, Delete 6, Keep 7). Second, deleting admin (User:Sandstein) noted problems with verifiability, which puzzles me. He notes the lack of English language sources, but so what? WP:NOENG and such - an experienced editor such as him should know well no English language sources are necessary for a topic to be notable (and verifiable). His opinion that " controversial issues in WP:AC/DS topic areas do require good sources in more than one (non-English) language in order to allow as many editors as possible, and not just a few or those possibly associated with one side of a conflict, to assess the content" is totally novel and goes against NOENG spirit. We DO NOT need English language sources to estabilish notability or reliability, scholarship in Foo language is totally fine. Finally, he mentions issues with neutrality and the controversy about perpetrators ethnicity. Neutrality is never a factor in AfD when it comes to deciding whether a topic can be deleted or not, we have {{NPOV}} that suffices for content disputes. Further, as I stated on the talk page of the article where we had a relevant discussion (now deleted...), yes, there are no good sources for this controversial description of the massacre perpetrators ethnicity (regardless of language, when I reviewed this article yesterday or so I couldn't find a single source in any language for that claim, as I noted on the talk). I expected within the few days at most we would remove relevant adjectives from the article as unsourced, and should address neutrality concerns. A lot of people participating in this AfD voted 'delete' because they DONTLIKE said claims about ethnicity of perpetrators - an invalid deletion rationale, and anyway, irrelevant concern since this claim is likely not going to survive in the article because I don't think it is verifiable. But to delete the article about a notable event just because of controversy over a single claim is IMHO quite improper. To summarize: there was no consensus for delete, and I don't see any valid reasons for deletion of this notable topic, controversy over a single fact (nationality of the perps) is not relevant to the notability of the main topic (massacre did happen, nobody disputes that). —Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:34, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done @Piotrus: Since you're a regular, I won't answer with a boilerplate template reply, but I must ask, why are you posting here? Did you not see the blue box at the top? We don't restore AFD-deleted articles by request on this page; this is for restoring non-controversial deletions. You need to contact the deleting admin and state your case to him, and if you are not satisfied with the response, take it to Wikipedia:Deletion review. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:45, 23 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Anachronist: Thanks. I've done so but it seems DR will not result in a restore (Wikipedia:Deletion_review#Massacre_of_Brzostowica_Mała). In that case, in line with Wikipedia:Userfication ("For help getting a copy of a deleted article, to put into your userspace, see Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to provide copies of deleted articles, or post at Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion), I'd like to ask for this to be userfied in my userspace, since as at least one other editor suggested in the AfD, parts of this may be eligible for merging to Skidel revolt. At the very least, it will save me time to re-code / reformat some references. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 05:33, 26 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Piotrus: Please send me a reminder when the DRV closes and if it remains deleted I'll userfy it for the purpose of merging parts of it elsewhere. ~Anachronist (talk) 01:33, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Chris Nichols

I originally posted this request at the deleting admin's talk page, but noticed he is no longer an administrator as of January, so cannot help me. I believe the original deletion was probably appropriate, so DRV wouldn't be the right venue, either. Back in 2013, Chris Nichols was deleted at AfD. Assuming this 2013 article was about the columnist/author, I have several reliable third-party sources about him including a feature in Pasadena Weekly [1] and write ups/reviews of his book [2], [3], which won a 2008 Independent Publishers award [4]. I'd like to try and rescue this, would someone mind userfying it for me so I can work on it? —The Master ---)Vote Saxon(--- 02:57, 27 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. @Mabel Alubo: You need to meet at least one of the inclusion criteria in WP:MUSICBIO and you don't, according to the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bella Alubo. Also, see the blue box at the top of this page, we don't restore articles that were deleted as an outcome of a deletion discussion like that. Prix Maurice Ballot

Dear Randykitty, In response to your deletion of the new page Prix Maurice Ballot given by the French Astronomical Society, I would like to better understand your position relative to similar long-established content on Wikipedia.

The wiki page for the American Astronomical Society -- which is a peer of the French Astronomical Society-- lists 20 of its awards, virtually all of which have their own dedicated pages on wiki. Many of those are minor awards, for example the Chambliss Amateur Achievement Award (page created 2007), which is given "for an achievement in astronomical research made by an amateur astronomer resident in North America." This is virtually identical to the objective of the Prix Maurice Ballot which is "recognition of authors of works of the Society's observatory" (i.e. amateur or professional).

Similarly, the wiki page for the Astronomical Society of the Pacific -- another peer of the French society -- has a page for their "Amateur Achievement Award of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific" (page created 2006), which is given for "significant contributions to astronomy or amateur astronomy by those not employed in the field of astronomy in a professional capacity." Again, virtually identical to the French society's prize.

The type of organisations, the nature of the three awards, the "noteworthiness", and the level of references provided on all three wiki page are virtually identical, yet the French award was deleted and the others remain. There are many other such wiki pages for awards offered by other astronomical organisations outside of France, which I would be pleased to share with you. Please note that besides the award winners themselves, it is mostly the sponsoring astronomical organisations that document/write about their own awards.

In the above context, I respectfully request you to reconsider the deletion of the Prix Maurice Ballot page. Thanks for your consideration of this request —Akrokerama (talk) 11:38, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me of this status. The page is in limbo since the editor simply replaced my draft with a redirect code (a de facto deletion without explanation other than un-noteworthiness which I have addressed above). Please guide me as to how I can resolve this issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Akrokerama (talkcontribs) 21:14, 28 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can undo the change to a redirect. You can discuss this with the person who did it. You could open a discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Awards (since I do not think the talk page of the redirect will get much attention). If you do undo the change, please gather more independent references that show notability. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:36, 29 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I request to restore/undelete the article The Rinaldi Group. How can an article be deleted on the basis of only a single vote? Deleting the article without proper AFD discussion is very inappropriate. I was about to vote for keeping the article, but before that, the article was deleted. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Việt Khang, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, user Joe Decker (talk · contribs). However, if you did copy and paste all or part of your text from a third party, you are still free to rewrite the page. You'll just need to make sure to start from scratch, writing in your own words. That was me. As noted, the article had been almost directly copied from the product website and there was essentially no saveable text. In the worst cases, copyright text will be completely removed, but in this case your original article is still present in the history. Typically product websites are copyright-protected, but even in cases where it is public domain or you are the copyright holder, it cannot be used in Wikipedia. You must write the article in your own words. Even closely paraphrasing from another source may be an issue, you can read WP:PLAGIARISM for (much!) more detail. If you do intend to rewrite the article, consider the notability criteria and promotional content guidelines. In particular, make sure you provide secondary or tertiary sources to establish notability and provide verification of claims. Lithopsian (talk) 20:22, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I created this page yesterday and deleted it today because someone removed a non-free image from it and this userbox lost its purpose. Now I got a free-image for it and therefore want it back, thankyou. —Harsh Rathod Poke me! 07:20, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    Vere Wynne-Jones

Hello. I am confused by the logs for this article. It looks like it was PRODed 3 months after a unanimous keep vote at AfD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vere Wynne-Jones. Can anyone check if there is a good version to restore? Thanks and regards, Biwom (talk) 09:43, 1 April 2018 (UTC) —Biwom (talk) 09:43, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • Done @Biwom: I have restored the edit history of the article, policy does say that as this was kept at AfD it should only be deleted as the result of a future AfD and not through PROD or A7. There are a couple of revisions belonging to the first creation which was deleted as a copyvio, I haven't restored those. Hut 8.5 14:14, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    The Talk Show

This page was deleted in 2005 (by a now inactive and retired admin). I have no idea what the state of the article was at that point, but there is a new article at The Talk Show (podcast) that may be related and I'd like to see the old edit history in case there are some old relevant links I can hunt down through archive.org to make sense of the early history of the podcast. I will concede that this very well could be a complete coincidence and have no information relevant to the new article, but I still would like to try. It would be great if the history of this article could be moved into my user space for a short period of time so I can see if there is any relevance to the new article. Thanks! — - PaulT+/C 12:55, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    • I don't think there's any content there you can salvage as they appear to be talking about completely different topics. The podcast in the deleted article was started in December 2005 and involves "Mike" chatting about anything he likes and promoting Morgan Dollar Records, the company which makes the podcast. The article noted that the podcast "consists of blocks of programming interrupted by commercials", which it makes out to be unusual or distinctive instead of being the way almost all radio shows work. The only link cited was [5]. Hut 8.5 14:08, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

    I HAVE A RIGHT!

The admin who deleted the article cited the reason given in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/I HAVE A RIGHT!, which was an April Fool's Day nomination. In theory, the topic meets GNG criteria and can at least be improved and rewritten to eliminate the promotional tone. It exists on the Ukrainian Wikipedia until the title: uk:Я МАЮ ПРАВО!««« SOME GADGET GEEK »»» (talk) 15:08, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
