IMG Models is an international modeling agency operating in New York City, Los Angeles, London, Paris, Milan, and Sydney. It is a subsidiary of the talent management company International Management Group. The company merged with William Morris Endeavor in 2013.[1] The agency is best known for acquiring and representing top models and managing their careers as comparable to entertainers.
History
IMG Models was founded circa 1987, by sports agent by Mark McCormack.[2] In 1994, IMG Models' now-president joined the company as creative director, having previously worked at other modeling agencies such as Wilhelmina Models and Ford Models.[3]
In 1999, Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bündchen notoriously left Elite Model Management (having been dissatisfied with the work environment) to switch to IMG Models, effectively giving the agency its first major signing.[4]
By 2013, IMG Models's president Ivan Bart pledged sign potential models notwithstanding of traditional height requirements, weight, race, age, size, or other factors that typically affect a model's career prospects.[5]
In December 2014, IMG Models began a scouting initiative on the Instagram app called #WLYG (We Love Your Genes).[6] Models that have been discovered through this process include Lameka Fox,[7] Gizele Oliveira,[8] and Alyssa Traoré.[9]
