'Data Deficient' not shown in the NZ Threat Classification System graphic

In the graphic in the species box under the NZ Threat Classification System [status_system = NZTCS] there is no graphic for 'Data Deficient'. This is an important classification, especially for species that are likely critically endangered but haven't been researched.

@Apburns I'm not really sure that there is an argument for adding an extra DD category to either the IUCN or the NZ threat classifications graphics. Your edit seems to have successfully added DD in a grey circle under status2, whilst retaining the CR status from the main IUCN status categorisation. So what is it that you want that's different?

As Data Deficient isn't a category in its own right (more a lack of any categorisation through lack of information, and thus no evaluation), I doubt it would help adding DD into the NZ scale at any given point between Extinct to Not Threatened. To me, the IUCN Classification of CR along the threat scale, followed by New Zealand's DD circular graphic on its own seems to work to communicate the current uncertainty quite effectively. But maybe I'm missing something you could explain? I'll happily ping a NZ editor I know who does a tremendous amount with species on both wikidata and wikipedia if you care to explain a little further first. 1. Information style and tone: Every article should be written in an encyclopedic tone. You've made few changes but they are not enough. Other senior editors can tell you more about this.
2. Lack of inline citation: Every statement in Wikipedia should be supported by independent, reliable, published sources. See Help:Referencing for beginners to learn how to add citations to an article. There are lot of articles of him by multiple news outlets. Example [1] [2]. You just have google his name and click on the news tab.
3.  Courtesy link: commons:File:Ramveer_tanwar_2.jpg I don't think you can use this image on Wikipedia. It looks like you have photoshopped an existing image and you're not the copyright owner of this image.

There appears to be a consensus among experienced reviewers that Ramveer Tanwar does not meet Wikipedia's requirements for notability about a living person. WP:TOOSOON may apply here. Per what Eevee01 wrote if you resubmit it at this time it is likely to be deleted and 'salted,' meaning that permission from an Administrator would be required to start over with a new draft. I recommend copying all content to a computer and then abandoning the draft. If the draft is inactive for six months it will be deleted. I want to add genre, why does it get removed?

I wanted to change the genre of the song Can't Be Tamed, because it's obviously an EDM song (that's what it says in comopistion section as well) but it got removed. Why? Another thing...Miley Cyrus reffers herself as she/her also seen at her albums She is Coming/Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz etc. Someone however edited her main page in wikipedia as they/them. Margery Withers artist

Margery Withers artist. Hello, I am the great-niece of this artist and have made some revisions to the previous entry on Wikipedia which had some notable mistakes, in particular her birth date which, based on her birth certificate, I have amended to 1890. However, I notice that she is still listed in 1894 Category, and I have no idea how to change this. I am doing research started by my mother for a fuller biography of Aunty Marge and though I have been a professional journalist and editor, with a sound training in fact checking, I do not know how to navigate Wikipedia very well. Looks like they're all from links to nla.gov.au, the National Library of Australia. As far as I can tell, most of the articles are probably still under copyright, but the library has permission to digitize and show them. I think we're in the clear. By the way, I found that when viewing an article in their viewer, one of their citation options is a full {{cite news}} citation! That's awesome! --rchard2scout (talk) 12:26, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Hello, I'm 54nd60x. I was actively editing Wikipedia since late January, however I have not become as active since July 16, 2021. To be honest, I really love Wikipedia and am grateful for all editors who work hard to keep this encyclopedia a great place. However, I realized that it may be the time for me to take a wikibreak now and to become active in other activities as well. I may come back to edit one day, or I may be editing from time to time. I may still check notifications daily, but currently I don't have a plan to continue my active editing. I was also active on Taiwan Rail Transport Wiki, a wiki requested and largely edited by me, which I am also planning to take a break on. However, there is still a probability I will come back to start actively editing some day, which I currently don't know when. I know the users who are reading this may want me to keep editing here. I really want to keep editing as well, but am just trying to see if a wikibreak will be helpful.

When Taiwan Rail Transport Wiki was created on July 17, 2021, I was quite active there and planned to invite everyone to edit there as soon as I had enough articles. Currently, I don't think I have met my goal. As the "founder" there, I know I will probably become inactive, but I don't want my wiki to close down. If you want to come edit my website, please go there and edit. If you're not interested in it, it's totally okay. I know that my wiki may be centered on one topic, but you can also use it as a reference for information on Wikipedia. My wiki isn't complete, but I am confident it will be complete some day and I can look at all the great work that came out of it. I know I've wanted to be a software developer some day and keep my website active for a long time, but I really feel I need a break now. I feel kind of bad to become inactive on Wikipedia knowing that I could've benefitted Wikipedia in many ways.

However, there is still a probability that I will come back to edit here! And know that I will be active in many activities as well. As of writing this, I play on Fortnite sometimes and am a fan of the Dhar Mann YouTube channel. My interests may continue to change, but know that I still may edit here one day! After all, Wikipedia is Wikipedia because of so many people editing here. I want to thank all the editors here on Wikipedia for making this website a better place. Editing here was a great experience for me, and I am just thinking of trying something new. It isn't like I'm quitting or retiring from here, I'm just taking a break and may come back soon. You can always email me if you have a Wikipedia email or you may post on my talk page as well, although I don't check my email very often. still trying to transclude a template

Under my User page I created a subpage ICTMontreal/Draft Bouchard Creek and later User:ICTMontreal/sandbox/Draft Bouchard Creek. I wanted to import the Template:Infobox river then modify it in my subpage by populating each field manually with the data for Bouchard Creek. I assumed I should simply transclude by typing {{Infobox river}} at the top of that subpage while in its Edit Source mode. I did that and published then went back to Edit Source to see the imported fields for me to populate. I just see {{Infobox river}} . I tried many variations such as {{Template:Infobox river}} {{subst:Infobox river}} etc etc. Nothing worked. So I suspect I really am missing something obvious and basic about transclusion. Thanks for the quick repIy. I already tried that for the Amazon river. But I went to Thames just now and I see what I saw at Amazon. When I go to Edit Source I find the template for Infobox river with all the fields and corresponding data. What I do not see is how the Template: Infobox river got into the code for Thames so it could be edited with the data for each field of that Infobox. ICTMontreal (talk) 11:59, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

To be more precise: my goal is not to modify the Template: Infobox river. Rather to import the template's contents into my subpage and edit my local copy by entering the data for Bouchard Creek corresponding to each field in that template. Once that is completed I would use either create a stub article named Bouchard Creek into which I would transclude from my subpage the infobox data or I would look to insert that infobox somewhere appropriate in articles under Wikiproject Montreal. You transclude it just as was done in Thames, by using {{infobox river}} and then including whichever parameters you wish to use. You might find it easier to copy the blank from the "Usage" section from Template:Infobox river/doc and then fill in the values for each parameter you wish to use (and you might want to tidy up by deleting the parameters which you aren't using). - David Biddulph (talk) 12:13, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

If the author of Thames merely typed in {{Infobox river}} it would not include any of the parameters or values; it does not include the detailed list of fields. Transclusion of the template includes the template source code which you can see under the "View source" tab on the template page and which enables the various parameters to be processed if they are specified, but it is up to the user to specify the parameters which they wish to use. The way of getting the "local copy of each field" as you describe it is either to type it in or to copy it from elsewhere. --David Biddulph (talk) 13:52, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

@ICTMontreal: I think most source editors either copy parameters from the template documentation like Template:Infobox river#Usage, or copy a template call from the source of another page like River Thames and change the values. Editing in a accidental matter

I think the bot detected the twitter link that you added as spam or vandalism; Twitter is rarely considered a reliable source due to being made up of self-published comments. Blaze the Wolf Depending on the city, you might find that there are plenty of books about its history, it's a fairly common topic of research for a lot of cities. Blaze The Wolf, if you want to "[expand] the history section of an article about a city", you need, as you have said, to find information. You can do this via your favorite search engine, and in a large library (preferably one in that city). But now you ask about places on Wikipedia. If it's the city you live in, Blaze The Wolf, then it's likely (though of course by no means certain) that English is a, or the, commonly used language. That's very helpful. Despite prolonged campaigns in many English-speaking nations to destroy the public sphere, many cities still manage to have (underfunded, understaffed, overworked) central libraries. Their accessibility may of course have been diminished by (legitimate) Covid concerns. @Hoary: We do have a central library (called the city name Public Library) although I've never gone there for research related things, I've always just gone there for books to read. Blaze The Wolf, do you have a library card for your library? If you do, you probably have access to dozens, or hundreds of online databases and resources that may help you. Try using your library card to log in to your local library's website, and see what happens. Look for a tab or link called "e-library" or "databases" or "online resources" or something like that. Another option (card or no card) is just call up the library on the telephone and ask to be connected to the "reference librarian", and ask your question there. @Wikiwriter36826: Assuming that you mean the draft in your sandbox here User:Wikiwriter36826/sandbox, I'd strongly recommend you don't try to publish this into Main Space as it has all sorts of problems. Writing new articles that meet Wikipedia standards is remarkably difficult for beginners. Please read help on your first article and in particular recognise that we insist that the subject for any article meets pretty stringent requirements to show notability. Definition of Unreleased Film

I think that I know the answer to this question, but am asking because evidently there is some good-faith confusion about it. The question is what is meant by an unreleased film. If the film has a future release date, is it still an unreleased film? I reviewed and declined Draft:Escape from Hat, saying that it was an unreleased film, and said please resubmit when the film is released. There was a reply saying that it is not an unreleased film because it has a release date in 2022. Either I am mistaken as to what is meant by an unreleased film, or a new editor is mistaken as to what is meant by an unreleased film. Will someone else please clarify? If the release date is in the future it is still unreleased. Can disclosed paid editors participate in AfDs on articles they've created?

Apologies if there's an answer to this somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. WP:PE says that paid editors "you must not act as a reviewer of affected article(s) at AfC, new pages patrol or elsewhere," but there's no mention of AfD. Accuracy of the mill town article

I have just been looking at the mill town article and saw some nice history but then I noticed a very big geographic error on it. Under the Lancashire towns 1832-1962, which had been left unchecked. Glossop a town in Derbyshire was in that table when it clearly said Lancashire mill towns.

So I've removed it from the table, explained my edit summary and commented on the talk page. You cannot citation that because it's a well known and accepted fact that Glossop is in Derbyshire east Midlands not greater Manchester north West England.

So I wanted to ask could other editors please take a look at the UK section of mill towns and double check my edit was with good reason. Because it's wrong to mislead readers on a county and including a town which was never in that county ever. Just because it has borders with tameside and Cheshire doesn't make Glossop part of the Lancashire mill towns. DragonofBatley (talk) 18:11, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

I'm going to partially disagree with RudolfRed here, DragonofBatley. Material added to articles should be verifiable by reliable sources, but removing material that is incorrect doesn't require a source. Glossop is very clearly in Derbyshire, so I don't see why it would have been included in that table at Mill town#Spindleage of Lancashire mill towns producing spun cotton between 1830 and 1962. I think I've solved the mystery. When the table was first added, it was titled "Spindleage of major mill towns between 1830 and 1962". Later, J3Mrs changed it from "major mill towns" to "Lancashire mill towns". I believe that Glossop and the original title (or a better title) should be restored. I see that since this discussion, DragonofBatley has also removed Stockport from the table on the grounds of its not being in Lancashire. I have reinstated both Glossop and Stockport, and reverted the title of the table to its original more inclusive version. This seems a better solution. PamD 07:06, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

@PamD: unfortunately that hasn't resolved the issue in the sense of adding Greater Manchester. Because towns like Accrington Burnley Blackburn Preston Glossop and Chorley are not part of Greater Manchester nor previously. So I've added large mill towns. I've addressed it for just keeping it simple using large mill towns as these towns and cities are large. If there's an issue with it maybe a concensus should be reached and more work done on the mill town article.

It was actually me who changed the table's title, DragonofBatley. I don't think "large mill towns" works as it doesn't specify a region, whereas the table clearly doesn't include all large mill towns anywhere. Greater Manchester is in the source title, but perhaps that's being used very loosely. Ideally, we'd access the source to see how the table is captioned there. Maybe the table should be either removed or maybe the towns woollen amounts in captions in the other table? I'm not completely aware with mill towns but know the other table seems to be a pointless addition but rather reach a concensus on the removal or addition to it. It illustrates dramatically the increase and decline in cotton spinning, which to me appears 100% relevant to the idea of mill towns. Possible impersonation; best course of action

Hello Teahouse, looking for some guidance here on possible account impersonation. I edit a lot of American legislator articles, and have interacted with User:KolbyJHarris more than a few times. They edit Montana-related political articles, and have made some great edits. On September 15th, an account named User:KolbyJHarris1 was created.

TLDR, recenty created User:KolbyJHarris1 has started editing articles previously edited by User:KolbyJHarris. I thought it was possible that KolbyJHarris created a new account because they forgot their password, so I provided them with some links for password recovery on User talk:KolbyJHarris1. KolbyJHarris1 did not explicitly acknowledge anything and just responded with "Thank you!" KolbyJHarris has since replied that they are not KolbyJHarris1. I don't see any explicit acts of impersonation, and I don't know the rationale at all behind the naming scheme of KolbyJHarris1, but it just seems like spade-like impersonation and a false doppelgänger. Hoping to find the best course of action on this. Thanks!

Question re notability requirements for creative persons

I would like to write an article about an artist who is mentioned in many books--sometimes casually and sometimes in depth--and had many exhibits. He was well-known for a period, being part of the New York School, but never as famous as Picasso or Kandinsky, etc., though many artists of that caliber were close friends of his. I can provide citations and quotes from books, posters from his exhibits, and articles written about him, but none of these are to be found on the internet, only in published materials.

Must there be links on digital platforms or online articles to satisfy notability requirements for a Wikipedia entry to be created? If so, I would not know how to proceed. Would I have to first create links on digital platforms about the artist?

This would be my first attempt at a Wikipedia entry, and there is much I do not know. (Actually, I hardly know anything!)

Using a primary source to dispute a reliable secondary source?

I created the page Creative Community for Peace. It's a work in progress, and I'm well aware that we should always attempt to use reliable secondary sources whenever possible.

An article in the Forward from 8 years ago said: "CCFP also disputes the use of the term “occupation”...'[3]

The article gave no explanation for how the reporter came to that conclusion. In looking through a ton of news articles in order to create the page, I found no other source that made the same claim.

I then looked on the group's website. They take no policy position on the occupation, and among the very few mentions of the word "occupation" on the website (17 total via google search), one staff member used the word occupation without any equivocation:

"As an Israeli, I recognize that the ongoing occupation of the Palestinian people is a long-term threat to my country’s well-being."[4]

I'm not looking for any definitive determinations. And I'm waiting for the other guy who has been helping write the article to see if he can possibly find another source which concurs. I'm just looking for some advice.

1. Might it be reasonable to write the Forward info as opinion instead of fact based on it's age and lack of corroboration (e.g. In 2013, an article in Forward said....)?
2. Might it be reasonable to include a quote from the group's website which seems to dispute this claim, without writing any judgments about it (e.g. In 2016, a CCFP staff member wrote in an article on their website, ".......")?

@Bob drobbs: I'm not familiar with either CCFP or The Forward, but it seems like the former is right wing and the latter is left. As you proposed, in-text attribution is appropriate, but you can probably shorten it to just "The Forward said...". Do not include the group's text because you are interpreting that as a response when the two articles aren't related (WP:SYNTH). @Danhuan: You can't manually move pages because you aren't autoconfirmed yet. Even if you were, the draft is not suitable to be moved into the mainspace yet because it doesn't show that the subject is notable. Quoting WP:NPERSON, you must include "multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject". Please follow Wikipedia's referencing format at Help:Referencing for beginners, and do not include inline external links to the body of the article, especially when they are wikis that can be freely edited by other people (Baidu Baike, Rigpa Wiki, etc). Most pictures on the internet do not have a compatible license to be uploaded onto Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, so I've nominated your image for speedy deletion. Semiprotecting pages of UFC Events

It is well know that the results of UFC events are often subject to vandalism. Wouldn't it be better to semi-protect the articles right away to allow only registered users to edit. Most of these fake edits come IP accounts. Registered users would get banned if they do anything spooky. I posted this suggestion in WT:WikiProject Mixed martial arts . but was doubtful for a response as it is quite inactive. I am not a highly experienced editor. That said, articles are not protected pre-emptively, there must be a demonstratable problem with vandalism. Question about removing content from talk pages

Hi. I am not extremely new to Wikipedia but I wasn't sure which forum this would belong on, so if it is misplaced, please let me know. I am a member of WP:RCP and reverted an new edit which was made without a reference. After leaving a message on the user's talk page with information about how to cite material, I received a message on my talk page from the user which was very rude and contained profanity. My question is: can I remove that message as I don't particularly like it being there on my talk page? @LeggoMyEggoNOW: On Wikipedia most of the time, what you think of bans are called blocks. They're usually only issued as a preventative measure and not as punishment. Posting a link to your Youtube channel can be seen as advertising which isn't allowed and you'll most likely be warned for it and if you continue with it you will get blocked. All you have to do to thank someone is either give them Wikilove or simply just press the thanks button and say yes when it asks if you're sure you want to thank someone. Second, You won't get muted or anything similar for that but a link to a personal youtube video will likely be removed as unreliable source except for some very narrow circumstances. I can not find a bit of information on Wikipedia about PNC Smart Access accounts and or affiliation with PNC Bank. There should be something don't you think? I have an account and honestly it's horrible but it amazes me to read all kinds of information about PNC but no mention of PNC Smart Access accounts at all. I attempted to open the link and it simply just said that there may have been a typo so I would say it is perfectly acceptable to remove the reference if you can't find an archive of it as the reference is there to prove the information to the left of the reference. (edit conflict)@Greg Dahlen: I'm going to disagree with some of what Blaze says here, the best option is to search the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine) for an archived version or add the {{deadlink}} to the reference if it is in fact dead to allow someone some time to potentially find a replacement. Removing a reference is always a last resort. In this case the reference was doing something very strange and adding an extra www. to the address and then when corrected the site security certificate seems to have expired causing an error on my browser. It's main use here on Wikipedia is to allow sources that go no where now to be used by looking at the past version of them when they used to work. I have come across an editor by the name Dianna who keeps deleting pure researched topics from the pages I edit. Some articles related to legends do not have a source and are transmitted via oral sources. They have done this previously as well and it is annoying to deal with them. @Shantadurga123: Wikipedia cannot rely on oral sources because they are not really verifiable. See Wikipedia:Verifiability. I have the same problem with wine articles; there is a lot of good information that a winemaker can tell you in person that isn't published anywhere. In the end, we need published sources. Shantadurga123 — When you say "oral sources" are you just referring to word-of-mouth in person, or do you mean perhaps a radio or podcast source? The former unfortunately isn't something we're able to use but if you have a published audio source then it's possible to cite that; essentially you want to try to refer to a timestamp in it the same way you would refer to a page range and I could show you some examples of that if that's your basis. If it's the former, then your best bet is to find perhaps a book which has collected the oral traditions you're thinking of, perhaps a folklorist or anthropologist has collected a written record which can be used as a result. 𝄠ʀᴀᴘᴘʟᴇ ꭗ 17:45, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Since most of the moderators here mention that information that does not have any source cannot be published, how did Diannaa approve the rest of the information on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vijayadurga. The content you see on this page was added by me years ago and it does not have citations. I collected information based on oral sources and none are published in any books. Plus I see a huge banner that reads "This article has multiple issues". Why has no action been taken against this?

I'll attempt to answer this. Some editors, perhaps for etiquette reasons, might prefer to tag content rather than delete, especially if it is assumed that the unsourced content is legitimate. That way, editors have a chance to improve the article content with sources, rather than start over. For the Vijayadurga article, one might assume sources do exist somewhere that describe this deity. Need to clarify money on Mr Cruel article?

I've conversed a little with User:I dream of horses about the Mr Cruel article on Wikipedia. I think something should be done to make it clear that when a one-million dollar reward is mentioned for helping catch Mr Cruel, Australian dollars are meant. She thinks that because the article is only about events in Australia, no special notation needs to be in the article to indicate that the one million dollars is in Australian dollars. I've looked at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Dates_and_numbers#Currencies and I can't figure out whether it's giving direction on what should be done in this case, and if so, what direction. I waited until now to create a Wikipedia page about myself... which, apparently, was a big mistake! I need some help figuring this out.

I have lived a remarkable life and I have been asked many times why I don't have a Wikipedia page. It always seemed egocentric and, frankly, superfluous. But now I have published a groundbreaking book, Holocaust Cinema Complete: A History and Analysis of 400 Films, with a Teaching Guide, and it is time. Because of my research and expertise, I am now a guest on many podcasts and the subject of reviews and articles, including https://www.jta.org/2021/10/01/culture/this-professor-has-seen-almost-every-holocaust-movie-ever-made-totaling-over-400-heres-what-he-learned . People want this information. So I set out to write a Wikipedia page, in good faith. It is factual and annotated.

I was so surprised to get a note from a very kind member of your community telling me that publishing my own page is frowned upon, a very egregious Wiki-error in Wiki-land. It was then suggested that I should wait for someone else to write my article, but only if I am worthy. Jaw dropping to hear, as an outsider.

@Rich Brownstein: Taking a brief look at your article, it seems to be very well written (although the sourcing could use a little work). There are some policies and essays that are relevant here. First, reliable sources and what counts as a reliable source, are 2 very important things that can help out a lot in writing an article when the subject is notable. Currently the sources you have I'm not sure if they would be considered reliable. Next is autobiography, which states that it is strongly discouraged to write an article about yourself as it is seen as a form of conflict of interest. If you wish to continue then take a look at your first article which is a guide on how to create an article, and notablility which states what is and isn't considered notable. Huge chunks of content is unreferenced. More of the draft is about the book (Table of contents, image of the cover, which is likely copyright protected and not by you) and its reception than about you. The whole Reception section reads like book jacket endorsements, and should be deleted. You, writing about you, do not get to call yourself an expert, nor your book definitive. The process details of the book being published is unneeded. You are not forbidden from creating an article about yourself, but this draft, if submitted, would be declined. Hello, I have been off Wikipedia for a couple of years now but want to resume posting about things I am passionate about. I was updating the information on Dr Disrespect page and my information appears to have been reverted by a bot called Twinkle. The reason given was that it is not yet popular enough, but anyone involved in the gaming community knows that this has sparked a pretty broad discussion about the use of aim assist and that is it a central component of the Doc's persona. Protected talk pages

Hi, egregious teahouse!

I once requested to lower the protection level of a talk page, which seemed strange (in part probably because I didn't notice similar cases in my previous existence as a registered editor). It turned out to have been semi-protected in occasion of some severe disrupting behavior and left protected for what I would say was way too long. The protection policy seems to discourage long protections of talk pages, but the list of protected talk pages seems quite long. This list includes things like the Main talk page, archives/subpages and recent cases that seem fine to protect. Requesting to remove the protection level is surprisingly easy and giving a predefined expiration date for the protection in severe cases of regular disruptive editing doesn't seem to be a smart move, but I was wondering how many cases are there, where the protection was just left in place for too long without anyone noticing or complaining, if there is a better way to filter legit cases out of this list and find out if this is an actual problem, and if it's worth to bring up the matter somewhere else for discussion.

Edit: I just noticed the previous section, I have a dynamic IP, but I'm not the same person (believe it or not). Semi-protection of talk pages occurs only when there has been persistent disruptive editing of that page such as trolling, vandalism, copyright violations, libel, threats of violence and the like. The length of the protection should be proportionate to the length of the disruption. Administrators are empowered by the community to protect pages that have been disrupted on an ongoing basis. If you wish to edit semi-protected pages, you can do so by registering an account, making ten edits and waiting four days. It is easy and has the additional benefit of concealing your IP address. Fair enough, IP editor. What I do not understand is your comment about "forgetting". If I, as an administrator, decide to semi-protect a page for six months or one year, then how does "forgetting" enter into it? Am I expected to check in monthy to ensure that the protection is effective in preventing disruption by new editors and IPs? Of course not, since semi-protection is 100% effective in its effects, and the semi-protection will expire at the end of its term, whether or not I remember, or have been hit by a bus in the interim. On the other hand, if anyone makes a good faith objection to the semi-protection that I have imposed, I am obligated to explain and defend my decision. I honestly wish you to stay away from buses (busses?), at least as much as it's beneficial for your well being. Many talk pages protections I saw were listed as "no expiry set" (not sure if they actually are indefinite or are just listed as such to avoid persistent vandals to just set an alarm and start again when the protection is lifted or what is the common practice in such cases). I didn't really mean to put on administrators much more load than they already have or expect them to keep track of every protection they set in place. In my case the protecting administrator was active and so friendly and fast to respond that I regretted not mentioning the problem just on their talk page (which I later found was the preferred procedure). I just thought that if there is a significant number of old talk page protections and a reasonable way to filter the legit/unproblematic ones out, it would make sense to go through the list to check for probable outstanders (I would actually go through a couple hundred entries, for more a bot seems more suited, for less, I guess it's not a real problem, and yeah, whether it is a real problem or not is the main question and should be the first to be answered). 176.247.148.163 (talk) 07:38, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

One aspect that I didn't point out is that this problem, if real, is more likely to affect unpopular articles, where occasional IP editors seem more likely to contribute significantly, while popular/controversial ones attract both more persistent disruptive behavior and requests to reduce protection. Not sure if it's listed there, but I unprotected Talk:Justin Bieber a couple months ago and it seems to be doing well. Ime, talk disruption is very localized, either specific LTAs or controversial, high profile subjects. It can be useful to indef a page in some cases, and yeah most admins forget to return years later. Its a hard thing to prevent (I can barely remember breakfast) so it's better to just ask an admin to unprotect if you see a page you want to edit but can't. Once the cause has passed it's usually fine to unprotect, but any uprotecting admin should watch the page for a month or so in case problems return. I'm still working through the indef move protection log, but I'll look through indef talk protections when I get a chance. Hi! I've seen an IP editor is again and again adding a non-notable with biased unreliable citation in this article. I've reverted their edits again and again also advised them previously [7] that please provide reliable source but they reverted my edit again and doesn't act upon my advice, which seems like they are just promoting this name in the article as using article as a soapbox and the name seems to be non-notable since I couldn't find any source and as per WP:3RR I don't want to be indulge in edit war with them, that's why I am little bit confused what should I do please can anyone quickly sort out this matter? Wallu2 (talk) 06:56, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

@Wallu2 I see that @Maproom has reverted the addition of a non-notable name. I also checked it out and agree with you that it was not needed in the article. If you fear being caught by WP:3RR, the best way is to post an explanation of your concerns on the article's talk page, explaining why you have removed it, and inviting editors (probably one person from mutiple IP addresses) to give their reasons and to gain consensus before inserting it again. If they fail to communicate on the talk page, you can revert and refer each IP address to that talk page. I'll leave a quick note for the latest IP editor, too. If WP:COI edits from multiple address becomes really disruptive (it's nothing like that yet), it's possible to request WP:SEMIPROTECTION. Hope this helps. Hello, Tidini and welcome to the Teahouse. I hope you're enjoying your time on Wikipedia since you joined us earlier in the year. The Teahouse is really only for answering questions about editing Wikipedia, and I fear your question has much higher aims than that. I also wish I knew the answer to it!!! All I can say is that, by contributing to Wikipedia you help to collate and then disseminate reliably-sourced information so that others can benefit from it. The encyclopaedia, with its 6.2million plus article in English alone is becoming a freely available library to the world. If that, itself, helps raise awareness and inspires people to solve some of the worlds problems, we will have done a good job. Of course, Wikipedia itself has its environmental down side. It is now so popular that our servers consumer almost 12GWh of energy to meet those needs, and very little of that energy has been sourced from renewable sources. The Wikimedia Foundation does have a Sustainability Initiative, but progress in that area seems slow. (I'm not sure I've really answered your question, though, or if I ever could!) Postscript: @Tidini: You probably know the story of William Kamkwamba and the wonderful film subsequently made about his achievements as a young lad in The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind? I believe it was his inability to access his school library that initially prevented him from learning how to build a small turbine to pump water to irrigate his father's crops. Reliable sources in a niche industry

Hi, I am trying to get a draft approved for a cryptocurrency project and the feedback that I got is that it does not have reliable sources. I linked to niche crypto sources and even a mainstram one (Nasdaq) that goes in depth about the information I am posting. I then looked through the list of reliable sources and aside from coindesk (which is flagged red) the other sources are not listed. My question is, how can it be possible to provide reliable 3rd party sources when the industry itself is not recognized here for submitting reliable sources? There is no comprehensive list of reliable sources: there is a list of frequently-encountered sources (WP:RSNP), but if a source is not on that list that says nothing about whether or not the source is reliable (and reliability of a source also depends on what information it is being used to verify). You can ask about particular sources at WP:RSN - and search the archives of that page to see if they have been discussed before. But yes, if a topic has not received significant coverage in reliable sources, then it does not meet Wikipedia's criteria for Notability, and no article will be accepted. If you are writing about a cryptocurrency, you should probably be aware of WP:GS/Crypto: I don't believe this affects the creation of a new article, but since disputes in this area have often become combative, there are controls on editing. --ColinFine (talk) 21:46, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

I understand that part of the reason the sourcing is dodgy in the topic area is because many of the main crypto news sites have conflicts of interest or otherwise don't have editorial oversight, which is also a large part of the reason why the general sanctions are in place (i.e. the promotionalism and conflicts-of-interest). Hi Blockfanatic. A bit of a segue perhaps, but I just want to add that trying to use Wikipedia to get an industry taken seriously is probably not a wise strategy to follow if that's what you're hoping to do. Wikipedia doesn't even consider itself a reliable source for pretty much anything (except perhaps itself) as explained here and there's no way for you or anyone else in your industry to control or unduly influence content. So, any article that you end up creating will essentially be there for others from around the world to edit at anytime and all edits will be assessed in accordance with relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. For sure, there seems to be a bit of prestige connected to being written about on Wikipedia, but there can also be some disadvatages as well that might not be so evident at first. I'm not trying to discourage you from trying to create an article about this subject; I'm just trying to point out that there may be some things about Wikipedia that you might not be aware of, and these are sometimes things people only find out about after its too late. There are ways other than Wikipedia which might work better for what you're trying to doif Wikipedia turns out to be a bad fit, at least at this point in time. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:26, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

The name seem to be an amusing coincidence (amusing because of George C. Whipple's area of expertise). Instead, the Charmin Ads' Mr. Whipple was named for a different George Whipple, who unlike George C. (who had died in 1924) was thriving in 1964 when John Chervokas created the ad campaign. The full details are given by Chervokas in Reference 2 of our article on him, which links to here (a pdf).

Jennifer Logan page: unsupported edits

What is the proper procedure to comment on edits made to an article that are not supported? The Jennifer Logan page just popped up on my watchlist because an edit was made with a correction. While the correction may be right, it's not supported with a citation. When I logged back in it said I could not edit due to a block on an IP. However when I tried again it appeared to not affect me. WikiLove is given to you by other editors. Is my professor notable enough for a Wikipage?

My professor wants me to create a Wikipage for him, but I'm not sure if he meets the notability requirements. He is very well known in evangelical homiletics (preaching) but that is admittedly a small circle. He's published multiple books and articles over the last 25 years and is featured in the 'authors' section on some publishers' websites. Do you think he qualifies?

TalyaMuchmore, despite its current title, Draft:Talya Muchmore is about a person named Virgie Tovar. The draft has three references. The first is a nine paragraph article in the East Bay Express. That is a pretty good source that contains biographical information that could be used to expand the draft, which is a good thing. The second is a library blog post announcing a speaking engagement. Routine promotional event announcements do not add to notability. The third is an Amazon author listing, which does not add to notability because it is promoting Amazon's business interests, and is neither neutral nor independent. You really need multiple reliable independent sources and only the first one applies. Another problem is the improper use of external links. One external link to the person's website, for example, is fine in an external links section. Your very short draft has four external links which is a red flag for reviewers. This makes the draft look like an effort to sell her books, and Wikipedia is not for promotion. The draft ends with an unreferenced claim about her education. You need to provide a reference for that. The best way to show that an author is notable is to provide references to reviews of several of their books published by independent, reliable sources. If an independent reviewer has written several paragraphs about the dishes on the menu, then it might be acceptable to mention them, basing the text on that independent review. But if (as is usually the case) all the information about their menu comes from the restaurant themselves, then it does not belong in Wikipedia. Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. As a winner of the FANZA award, I think there's a possibility that she may be notable, it just needs some improvements. As for improvements, start by removing all citations to Twitter, as those aren't considered reliable. Also remove the appearances in TV and expos, as that is indiscriminate information. Don't include too much personal information that doesn't relate to her career. Can you help me with more specifically what I can add for this article to be published?

Hi! This is my first Wikipedia article to attempt. It was declined pretty quickly, within a few hours. I think I could find some more sources and probably beef up the article? A comment was left by the user who declined it saying there isn't "enough of a solo career" to call for a Wikipedia page for this person. I didn't think that was any kind of requirement? And as others with similar entertainment backgrounds and career level have Wiki articles, I really didn't think that would be an issue brought up. Thanks in advance for your help! I appreciate any advice as I'd really love to be able to publish this article.

@Mintella: It's a requirement if pretty much all the coverage of the singer is of his work with a given band. In order to have an article on a solo artist, there needs to be articles about him independent of any prior bands, including professional reviews of his solo work. The same applies to musicians who have been with multiple bands over the course of their careers - there need to be articles critiquing his work overall, and not just with the band he's most well-known for being with. I have recently regained access to this account and intend to use it. To this end, I have enabled the newcomer homepage to make a few things easier for me. However, I cannot for the life of me find out how to enable the blue question mark that floats on the page if you create a new account. If I clicked on it, it opened into a kind of help menu where i think i could "ask a mentor" and another option which I can't remember. I wouldn't bother taking the time of checkusers on this. If both of you edited only when logged in then the edits are against your individual accounts. The IP addresses are irrelevant and wouldn't lead to you being accused of socking (unless both of you did the same nefarious thing). IP addresses can change frequently in any case. Hello. I was wondering the following: do i need to add references to the text in the lead section of an article? I just had this conversation over at the Finnish Wiki (where i do most of my edits), and while there were more than one perspective expressed, the consensus seemed to be that it is not necessary especially if the article won't most likely be expanded. @Xäkim See WP:LEADREF. If the article is correctly made, refs in lead should not be necessary, because then the ref will be found in the body. But this is not always the case, and it's not forbidden to put refs in the lead. Some editors consider a ref-less lead a mark of quality. Hi there. I'm wondering if someone can clarify the re-review process for drafts? I created an article that was rejected on notability grounds. I saw an option for re-review and submitted it, specifying evidence which I believe shows that the topic in fact meets the requirements. However, I received an answer right away that my article will not be re-reviewed. Not that my evidence doesn't meet standards, simply that my evidence will not be looked at. Can someone explain to me the goal of the re-review process in this case? When to use Draft for new articles?

I started creating a page for the Highland Council wards created in 2017 here User:ScottishNardualElf/sandbox/Highland_Council_Areas_In_2017. I copied the existing 2007 page and begun changing years links and sources, but I am realising there is a lot of work involved, and I want it to be of a good standard. I am not that experienced with Wikipedia, is it better where it is in my userspace or should be in draft? @ScottishNardualElf: In my opinion in situations where you're working on edits to a page that you aren't ready to be published on the actual page the sandbox is the best place for it. Drafts are really for working on creating brand new articles that don't exist yet (or are currently just redirects). @Nikoloz Ratiani: Welcome to the Teahouse. It really depends on the template (which are usually infoboxes). In source mode, there's usually a parameter called image or similar in a template, and you'd change the file name to the one you want. Is this right?

Iam writing this to get clarification about a sentence in the article you created called 1981 Meenakshipuram conversion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1981_Meenakshipuram_conversion). In this article in there is a sentence "In 1991, a decade later, 900 out of 1,100 converts returned to Hinduism, citing the lack of fulfillment of promises made during the conversions" and it has a inline citation no.16 which says the sentence was said by Mr. Narayanaswamy organiser of Arya Samaj( A Hindu organization). That is his opinion and not truth. Why is Wikipedia reporting Hindu organization as truth. Same line is also in the head para without inline citations. I think it is a mistake by Wikipedia staff. Please correct it.

Wikipedia articles are not written by "staff" but by over 100,000 volunteers (of whom you can be one). Please make your comment at Talk:1981_Meenakshipuram_conversion and other editors who are interested in the topic should see it and come to a consensus with you about what the article should say. Note that Wikipedia cannot determine what is true (see WP:TRUTH): it can only repeat what those external to the encyclopaedia have said in reliable sources, which WP articles quote. That statement appears to come from an article written by a journalist, and is not Narayanaswamy's words. Read it carefully: But a decade later, of the 1,100 Harijans who had converted to Islam in 1981, 900 have returned to the Hindu faith. Says M. Narayanaswamy, 74, organiser, Arya Samaj, who spearheads the reconversion movement in the area: "The people were lured away by false promises-of jobs, money and land. And they got nothing. Sandbox guidelines

Hi Teahouse. Plain and simple, I'm looking for guidance on what is and what is not permitted in a user sandbox. I noticed a user sandbox recently that includes an unsourced hoax... Reading Wikipedia:About the sandbox wasn't extremely helpful. Wikipedia:Sandbox states that users should not place promotional, copyrighted, offensive, or libelous content in sandboxes. Is that it? Didn't know if all polices and guidelines still applied to sandboxes (ok, obviously not everything applies to sandboxes, like MOS with testing and what not). This is my personal take on it: Sandboxes are for "testing and experimenting with wiki syntax and the VisualEditor". So basically, if someone wants to test WP syntax in their sandbox by constructing an entirely fictional article about someone who never existed, just to experiment with info-boxes, layouts, templates etc., that would be valid; in fact it would be better than experimenting using a real individual, because there is no risk of offending the unfortunate subject. But if anyone ever came across that sandbox article, it would probably look like a hoax. The situation is this: sandboxes are obliged to stick to the law (no copyright material, no defamatory material) and this is sensibly extended to a requirement for civility. But sandboxes are the place where you can play without worrying about notability, citations or accuracy. If you, personally, are worried that something you want to do in a sandbox might look like a hoax, you could add a line of text at the top explaining it, analogous to the way the more realistic kids' toy banknotes often have something printed on them. But it's not really necessary. No one should be moving articles from sandboxes to "real" places (draft or main space) unless they know the material and know what they're doing. Hi Greg. In addition to what Victor said, it may help you to know that the way the article is currently written will not suffice. The language needs to be completely neutral, and not make statements such as "The writing and photography were rich and examined dance from many valuable, thoughtful angles." Read similar articles such as this one, to get a feel for "encyclopedic" writing. Good job compiling sources, and keep looking for more, because independent, third-party coverage of the magazine will be very important for showing that it's notable. Happy editing! Does the Mission Peak page talk about the peak or the park surrounding it?

The current revision of the Mission Peak page appears to refer to it as both the peak and the park interchangeably, which adds a significant amount of confusion to the article. Which of these should the article refer to, and how to change it to refer to that? turning author names in references into links to wikipedia articles

I realized this morning on an article in my own sandbox that I can turn author names of my references into links to wikipedia articles when the author has their own article on wikipedia. On the sandbox article, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Greg_Dahlen/sandbox2, the author of note 3, Selma Cohen, has her own article on Wikipedia. Nowhere else is her name mentioned in my sandbox article where I could link her, so I did it in the references. Is this good form? I can't recall seeing others do it on Wikipedia, but perhaps they have. I did the same with George Dorris, the author of the reference in note 4, because he too has his own article on Wikipedia, but his name isn't mentioned elsewhere in my sandbox article. On the article Can-can I see the author of note 9, Alfred Choubrac, has his own article on Wikipedia. Should I turn his name into a link there in the reference? @Greg Dahlen: In general, there's usually a corresponding documentation page for each template and if you search the name of the template in the "Search Wikipedia" box near the top of your browser, you should find the template's documentation page fairly quickly; for example, try searching "Template:Cite journal". Some highly used templates have very detailed documentation pages which explain all of the parameters which may be used, but all templates should have some sort of a documentation page. Although there's lots of overlap, not all parameters will work with all templates, which is another reason for checking the documentation page when having problems. In addition, many templates have been updated over the years, which means you may find some syntax still OK to use but which have been pretty much superseded. These parameters may still work, but for practical purposes they seem to have been replaced for the most part in favor of something else in most cases. The |author= parameter is one of these in my opinion and you can easily address the name order issues mentioned above by using |last= and |first= instead. You've done this in some of the citations in your draft, but not in other. If you use these two parameters correctly, you should never have a problem with name ordering in the citations you add. For what it's worth, the "author" parameter tends to work better with single-name authors such as an organization's name (e.g. Larsen Associates) or individuals known professionally and commonly by a single name; for example, this and this citation should read "Lawson Associates" and not "Associates, Lawson" in my opinion and using the "author" parameter seems better. If you reformat those two citations as |last=Lawson and |first=Associates, the citation (I think) will look like "Lawson, Asociates". There may be a way to supress that comma, but using the "author" parameter is simpler in my opinion. Finally, If you're using a script or tool like Wikipedia:RefToolbar/2.0 to format and add your citations, you might have to go back and tweak things manually to clean them up since the tool just seems to provide the most basic syntax for the citation and might not do things exactly as you want. The same goes when you try and copy the citation syntax you find used by others; the usage might not be exactly the same and may require a bit of tweaking. -- Marchjuly (talk)

I would love to share this information worldwide via Wikipedia. Could this article be shared both legally and otherwise? Could it be included in the American Wikipedia? Can I pass it on to Wikipedia in photo copy/attachment form. Copyright laws shouldn't matter for citing it; we would just need enough bibliographical information to look the newspaper article up in an archive. Simply, you can assume three things: (i) anything published in the last few decades (or anything never published) is copyright unless you can show explicit evidence to the contrary; (ii) anything that's copyright isn't copyleft and thus isn't republishable for this website or any of its associated websites unless you can show explicit evidence to the contrary; (iii) any republication by you of copyright material will be jumped on by other people (who will be annoyed because you have wasted their time). ¶ On uploading articles: neither Wikipedia nor Wikimedia Commons accepts the upload of text articles (even those whose copyright is not problematic), as far as I know. ¶ On "the American Wikipedia": Wikipedia exists in various languages. I suspect that attempting to create something more or less similar for academic journals would additionally bring in factors discussed in Wikipedia:Notability (books), and all in all become a monstrous time-sink and bore. Hey Hoary, this is a new area I am thinking to explore. What's happening is this: for my own research papers and academic writing, I am diving deep these days and whenever I see a journal, I start to wonder if I should cite it or not (Wiki reliability and notability policies have started to dictate how I approach my research now!!!). And hence, I started wondering if there was some focus on this in past. Wiki project is so full of surprises. You think of something and mostly, it has already been thought of and is present. So yes, sort of went with that. WP:GNG - well, I would think same way one would think of academics. Why would typical news write about academic journals (unless there is a scandal maybe?!). Writing an article that was previously considered unnotable, but might be notable now.

Hi, I'm a new editor to wikipedia, and I've noticed that currently the PA politician Sean Parnell doesn't have an article (it redirects to the 2022 senate race in PA). Personally, I think between his books (one of which has an article as well) and his several attempts to run for office, he would be considered notable. However, last year, people voted to redirect the article to the corresponding election page.

I think, between his senate campaign which has attracted attention from the media, as well as his previous attempts to run for office, the situation has changed, and he deserves his own article now. That said, I don't want to begin writing an article on him if its going to get deleted. Is there a place to discuss the notability of a subject before writing an article? What's missing Shardbytes? For one thing, Draft:Boy Sullivan lacks any referencing whatever, so for all the reader knows, the content may be mere fiction. Additionally, it has promotional language ("Legend"), strange capitalization, and other mysteries (Is the "local Philippine Language" Ibanag?). At Draft:Phineas Kimathi, I cleaned up format, but it needs a lot of work. There is a LOT of content that has nothing to do with Kimathi. There is no "speedy approval." There is currently a backlog of close to 2,000 drafts submitted to Articles for Creation. The system is not a queue, but it can be up to two months for a draft to be reviewed. But in this draft you write for example President Uhuru Kenyatta^[11] in his Jubilee Manifesto (2013-2017) promised to get the Safari Rally back on the WRC calendar. This implies that the proposition expressed in "President Uhuru Kenyatta" is referenced. However, there is no proposition. I added a large quote from a book written in 1924 by an author who died in 1936 to Flugumýri Arson. It was reverted for copyright reasons. I'm not a copyright expert, but I think the book might be out of copyright almost everywhere. I'm happy to be corrected if that's not the case.

If the book is out of copyright, are there other reasons not to include a large quote?

Seek guidance on adding photo to article about living person

Interested in the writings of Brian McVeigh, I am discovering that, indeed, there's a Wikipedia article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_J._McVeigh) but the article has a (deserved) maintenance tag and it lacks a McVeigh photograph. I would like to edit the article and, among other things, provide a photograph. Probably, I can figure out how to contact McVeigh directly and ask for a photograph, stating my intention. Or, I could contact the sponsors of events where he has made speaking presentations and seek photographic images there. Please give me guidance on the optimal path I should take, and, in addition, please advise me on what licensing I should obtain in order to satisfy Wikimedia/Wikipedia requirements? @Canhelp The easiest way from "our" side is that McVeigh himself or someone standing close enough takes a new (as in previously unpublished) pic and uploads it themself with the process that starts here. It's possible for the copyright owner (almost always the photographer) to release already published pictures under an acceptable license too, but that is more bothersome and bureaucratic. Adding a child's name to an article

Hi, I have doubts about adding the first name or full name of a child of a public figure? (They have announced the name via Instagram post and I've added a RS for the same). I'm aware that we can't add the name of non-notable children in the infobox but I'm unaware of any policy for avoiding the child's name the main. Does it comes under WP:BLPNAME? In some articles I've seen the mention of the first name but in others only number is mentioned. Here is the link for the change I made. There is also a article which I edited months ago which had the name of the children. @Eevee01 I'll give you my opinion. Per that ref and WP:BLPNAME, you can include the name of the child. Per WP:BLPNAME, you can also exclude it. My own preferece is exclusion of name. I see no reason to mention Instagram in-text, though. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:49, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

I removed a lot of menu detail from Space 220 Restaurant, but in revisiting the article, have a new concern, being that all of the references are either from Disney (primary source) or blogs. Suppress automatic hyperlink formation for URL text?

Howdy. I've got some text that's the URL of a DoH server, so not something you can click on and browse to with a web browser. I need to display it in a table, as plain black text, not a hyperlink. I've already found span class="plainlinks", which helps a little, but I really just need it to not be converted to a hyperlink at all. Can anyone suggest a formatting tag to prevent that? For reference, this is what I'm talking about:

Also perhaps of interest, when I submitted this through the Teahouse new question submission form, it deleted everything except the text inside the table cell, so there's a bug there, either in the parsing or in the bogon filtering, depending how you look at it. Cannot load a jpg file into my sandbox test page

Hi, I'm interested in possibly making a contribution to Wikipedia and wish to experiment creating an entry in my sandbox. However, when I attempt to load a jpg file into my latex code I receive the message:

We could not determine whether this file is suitable for Wikimedia Commons.

I realize I need to release the file using a tag

but do not understand how to work with this. Could someone explain this to me?

Youriens, Wikipedia articles (and drafts, and talk pages, and sandboxes) do not contain images. Many of them contain links to images, usually on Wikimedia Commons, but sometimes on Wikipedia itself. Uploading an image to either is not trivial, largely because it involves understanding and following copyright restrictions. Maproom (talk) 18:54, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Ok, just for testing, I added the release all rights tag to the file via PD-self then linked to the Wikimedia Commons copy I saved and then was able to include it in my test file. Trouble authorizing an image

I am trying to use the following image. The language is public domain, from the website deepadaptation.info, as follows.

I don't know what context this is in, but copying those words may also be problematic from a WP:NPOV standpoint. About article descriptions

The guidelines state to start descriptions with a lowercase letter if the word is not proper, but when doing that I get a warning telling me that descriptions typically don't start with a lowercase. General Kipicus, short descriptions on the English Wikipedia are added using {{short description}}. These are displayed to mobile users in the links to similar articles at the bottom of the page. The convention here is to capitalize the first word. Descriptions on wikidata have a different purpose, to disambiguate similar entries there. The convention there is to start with lower case. I am working with the creator of The Periodic Table of Dimensions to create a Wiki page on said table. I have declared a conflict of interest in the interest of full disclosure. Is this the correct way to address the situation?

Also, I had uploaded a dozen or so images that I have the creators permission to use as public domain images, they have now been deleted because apparently I didn't note the copyright status correctly. What is the correct process for this?

You say there "I have full permission from the author and owner of all of these images to use them in the creation of this Wikipedia article." This seems to demonstrate a misunderstanding of what uploading to Commons entails. If, say, my business is making smoking appeal more strongly to teenagers and if I think that the diagram will somehow help me in this homicidal enterprise, then I can use the diagram for this purpose on my own website, as long as I retain the copyleft/PD information that Commons provides about it. -- Hoary (talk) 22:56, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Further, JMueller248, beginning to write the content of a draft without first finding the reliable independent sources which will support what you are writing is like building a house without first building the foundations: your house will quite likely fall down, or you will have to redo most of your work once you have the foundations. Remember that Wikipedia has little interest in what the subject of an article says or wants to say about themselves, or what their associates say about them. Wikipedia is almost entirely interested in what people who have no connection with the subject, and who have not been prompted or fed information on behalf of the subject, have chosen to publish about the subject in reliable sources. @JMueller248: You changed the licensing on the file to {{PD-self}}. Did you read that license? Did you notice that it begins with "I, the copyright holder of this work, ..."? Are you the person who created the original image? Is it really your "own work"? Why were my fixes undone and labelled as unconstructive?

Is the page about cesspits SUPPOSED to talk about "soup" instead of "sewage"?

I went out of my way to look at the history and see that I was undoing graffiti.

Now I'm told my changes are undone because they "appear unconstructive" without any further context or qualification.

People do make mistakes. They misread diffs or don't notice edit conflicts. Since the undo of your edit has the same time stamp as your undo of the vandalism it's most likely a simple problem of both of you seeing the vandalism and you making the undo first. The undo of your edit was reverted shortly after it was made and before you posted here. What are you expecting to happen? It's not a big deal. Clearly it was a mistake. What is far more important is the content of the draft, and the draft's references. If the topic is truly notable, and the draft clearly establishes that, then the AFC reviewer will move the draft to the proper title at the time that the draft is accepted into the encyclopedia. how to make newline to prevent lines running together-

I'm trying to find out how to make a newline.

I have to insert "

" at the end of every line, or they run together. However I noticed most of the text from others has no
or

. If I type in exactly what they have (copied into my sandbox), I get the lines run together. Is it because my operating systen uses \x0A for newline instead of \xOD\xOA? And of course those html tags get executed and don't show up in the question unless you look at the source! What I am using now are &lessthan, "br" or "p", &greaterthan. If I don't insert these tags, the lines run together: This is line 1. This is line 2. This is line 3. Take a look at my source (this question) and tell me where I am going wrong. @Eaberry: there are a couple of ways, depending on what you are trying to do. In normal text were you want to take a new paragraph, leave a blank line in between. WP will render this as a paragraph break. Alternatively, if you want to force a line break then use "<br/>". A third alternative is where you want to cite something like a poem where all the line breaks are preserved: in that case use the {{poem}} tag. I just thought of a fourth case - you might want a list. Lists can be numbered, bulleted, or (in your case) unbulleted. This is done using colons, depending on the indentation you want, as (see code or there are details at WP:PLAINLIST):

Finally, I should point out that you should only force a line break where it is necessary. This is because WP tries to format pages to display on all different types of device, from the smallest phone to a large desktop screen. @Eaberry: You can display code with <nowiki>...</nowiki>. Don't write <p> alone. It requires an ending </p> but is rarely used in Wikipedia. We make a blank line to start a new paragraph. Lines separated by a single newline run together as you have noticed. This is not an error but also how HTML works. Please always link any page you want help with, also if you think it's a general question. I guess from User:Eaberry/sandbox that your real goal is to display formulas on their own line. Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Mathematics#Using LaTeX markup recommends <math display=block>. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:42, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

In answer to your second question, of the more than six million articles in English Wikipedia, more than six million need improvement. There is no central place to report this. For each article, there is a Talk page where comments can be left, with the hope that editors who have an ongoing interest in that article will see and act. Or, do it yourself! On the flip side, there are new (and old) articles that do not meet Wikipedia's minimum standards to exist, so there are several article deletion processes. The main difference between the visual editor and the source editor is that you don't need to worry about the coding of something, as the editor will take care of that for you. See Help:VisualEditor for its helppage. Two final points, 1) the visual editor isn't enabled everywhere. @Nazir Ahmed Shaik: You created it in your userspace, which is intentionally NOINDEXed to prevent Google from searching it specifically because userspace tends to house a lot of drafts and other material that isn't ready for public consumption. So, first, wrong place. Drafts are to be created in your Sandbox (see top menu) or in draft space. See WP:YFA for how to do that. If you wish to continue, create a draft and cut what you created on your User page, then paste it into the draft. That said, Urdu Teachers Association, Telangana State, is very unlikely to quality as an article. What is essential is that published content about this teachers' association exist, to be used as references. No references = no article. I'm afraid that, like many beginners at Wikipedia, you have plunged straight into trying to do one of the most difficult tasks there is - creating a new article - without having spent any time learning how to do it. As Jeske says, you have created it in the wrong place, and you have created it without citing any reliable independent sources. Also, you have uploaded File:UTA TS logo.jpg, and in so doing, you have made the following legal statements:

You have said "I, Nazir Ahmed Shaik, am the legal owner of the copyright in that logo", and

"I, Nazir Ahmed Shaik, have given to everybody in the world the legal right to reuse or alter that logo for any purpose commercial or not, without asking permission, as long as they give credit to me, Nazir Ahmed Shaik, as the copyright holder".

I very much doubt that that was what you intended to do, and I suggest that you, as a matter of urgency, go to C:File:UTA TS logo.jpg, and pick "Nominate this file for deletion" from the sidebar.

I suggest that you put aside the idea of creating an article about UTA TS for several months, while you work on improving some of our six million articles and learn how Wikipedia works. In any case, before you try creating the article, I strongly advise you to study your first article. I definitely agree that it's better to start out by modifying articles to begin with, but I jumped in with my first article as well. There are a couple of things that would clean the issues up in the draft pretty quickly - and help identify the right way to do it. So, I will make some updates to User:Nazir Ahmed Shaik. It would also be good to move it to a Wikipedia:Draft page. And, there is also a correct way to upload a logo file. The article is now at Draft:Urdu Teachers Association. It still needs references - preferably secondary sources. It is best not to put external links, like to facebook in the body of the article, see WP:ELNO. And, bold should just be for the title of the article in the first paragraph. Change on WTC article

The image on the new World Trade Center article needs to be changed. First, 4 WTC and 5 WTC (site) are not visible. Also, this image was taken in 2016, when 3 WTC was incomplete (it was opened in 2018). There is already an article Charles Williams, which is a disambiguation page for all the many CW's that Wikipedia already has articles about. You musr change the name to include some identifying aspect, eg 'Charles Williams (US naval officer)'. Infobox building template

Hello,

• I am trying to get a blue dot to appear in the Template:Infobox building map for the location in the Brush-Everard House article.
• I set the map dot to "blue" and it appeared for awhile.
• I tried purging the page, as well as adding a map dot label - but neither of those have worked
• There is, though, a blue dot if I click on the screen to bring it to a full-page map.

Any idea what might be causing this? I think I have missed something.

@NruasPaoYPP: I'm not sure what you are trying to do. You created Template:ChongBlia Yang but the content is not suitable for a template. Templates are used when the same or similar content should be displayed in multiple pages. See Help:A quick guide to templates. The code {{ChongBlia Yang}} displays the content of the template page. That is what it's supposed to do. If you only want to make a link to the page then you can write [[Template:ChongBlia Yang]] to produce Template:ChongBlia Yang, or [[Template:ChongBlia Yang|ChongBlia Yang]] to produce ChongBlia Yang. But we generally don't link to templates in articles. Templates are for editors and not readers. Did you want Template:ChongBlia Yang to be a new article? Articles are not in templates. You can use Wikipedia:Articles for creation to submit an article for review but it needs reliable sources to satisfy Wikipedia:Notability or Wikipedia:Notability (people). In discussions between editors we sometimes write {{tl|ChongBlia Yang}} to produce {{ChongBlia Yang}}, but we don't do it in articles. tl stands for template link and is itself a template: Template:Tl. (edit conflict) It seems to be doing as expected. If you include {{ChongBlia Yang}} in an article it will transclude the template into the article, as it did when you tried it at Ban Phou Pheung Noi. If you are wanting to be able to link to ChongBlia Yang you should have created it as an article, and not a template, but you would need to include references to published reliable sources. How to get a corporate logo image for an article?

Hello! I'm not sure if there is a better place to ask, but I'm trying to figure out how I could add an image to the Draft:Willie Wiredhand article, about a corporate mascot. His rival Reddy Kilowatt appears to have a fair use image, but I think Reddy Kilowatt is no longer actively being used whereas Willie Wiredhand is. I think an image like the one here would add a lot to the article. Is there a fair use rationale I can use? Or, can I contact the copyright holder (the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association) and ask them to give some kind of relevant image permission? What should I ask them for?
