Finding a source

Tips for finding a source yourself
Main page: WP:Find your source
  • Send a request to the author(s) of research papers for a copy of their paper by email
  • Check on Google Books, or your local library or national library may be able to obtain it through an interlibrary loan or subscription
  • Search Google Scholar for archived copies of journals in institutional repositories
  • Check whether your alma mater's library offers electronic document delivery services for alumni—many do, for a small fee

Note that sites like LibGen and Sci-Hub offer direct, free access to a very large range of publications, but there are legal questions around their use and neither the Wikimedia Foundation nor the Wikipedia community endorses them.

Making a request
  • A request may be an open question or you may ask for a specific journal, article or work
  • All kinds of sources are possible here: newspapers, magazine article, databases, encyclopedias, court decisions, laws, books, etc.
  • We cannot perform full book copy requests due to copyright. Please ask for specific pages that relate to the article(s) you need them for
  • You may contact research helpers directly or make a request on this page
  • To receive email without disclosing your email address publicly, configure your email in Special:Preferences
  • Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, and date or identifiers like DOI, ISBN ISSN, PMID, etc.
  • Once a request has been fulfilled add the {{Resolved}} template.
  • Filled requests are archived.
  • Requests unfilled after three months will be archived

Fulfilling a request

  • Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests.
  • Indicate which part or parts of the request is being handled so others do not duplicate your work.
  • Notify (mention) the requester using {{ping|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}
  • You can:
    • point to a pre-existing electronic document by giving its URL ( http://... )
    • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service, provided it is legal
    • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons and/ or Wikisource (but be careful that this does not breach your own institution's policies)
    • email a link or plain text to a requester using the Special:EmailUser feature but for attachments, you need to ask them to mail you first so you can reply.

The book Modern Wales: Politics, Places and People by Kenneth O. Morgan states that Masterman wrote it to his wife in 1926.[1] I also found a number of history books giving a longer version: "I've fought him as hard as anyone, but I have to confess, when Lloyd George[...]". In Gbooks snippet view of the 1968 reprint of the Lucy Masterman book, the visible portion reads me, "but I have to confess, when Lloyd George[...]". I wasn't able to directly verify that the "I've fought him" portion was there. (My guess is that an OCR error was preventing it from showing up in search results). The goat tower at Cholmondeley Castle

So there's this goat tower at Cholmondeley Castle, and the photo of it we have:

looks like it could easily be forty+ years old, which means it would be the second goat tower built. There's nothing on the current website for Cholomondeley Castle about it at all, as far as I can tell, which is another reason I think it might predate most of the other goat towers, as goat towers have become a viral meme in the past ten years and if it was a recent addition I think they'd be using it in their marketing as the only frickin' goat tower in the UK, but the closest I find is a 1999 photograph and a 2010 brochure where they mention it and call it 'unique'. Can anyone find a mention of when it was built? Or mentions of it at all earlier than 1981? Thanks for any help! --valereee (talk) 19:18, 18 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Wāqwāq (manga) volume 4 endnotes

I'm not sure if it's beyond your scope, but I'd like to have access to the endnotes of Wāqwāq manga's fourth volume. They are mentioned by Anime News Network's Carlo Santos and apparently have some commentary on the drawing/writing process of the work. Greetings guys, my request here is the description of Achillobator. I have been looking for this particular paper/book? in a digital version, in order to make an updated skeletal reconstruction for its page, but apparently there's almost no images of it on internet—very obscure if you ask me. I have been able to figure a few elements of the holotype, however, from a different paper and book. The page for Achillobator is pretty much complete, but there few issues/concerns about the original measurements and other data which I think would be great to clarify.

Politiken article about Winston Sterzel

In this 21 July 2019 edit request for Winston Sterzel, an editor noted that Sterzel is living in the United States. This keeps getting added to the article and then reverted. See this 5 December 2019 addition to the article and the revert for the latest instances.

The Google Translate of the restricted access view of the Danish-language article notes:

First, they were hailed for showing China. When the videos became critical, they were hated, but refused to give up. But then China's ultranationalist Internet army threw itself on their wives and relatives, and it became too much for Winston Sterzel and Matthew Tye.

“They found out everything they could about my wife using the Internet. Then they accused her of being a spy and a threat to national security. And because she loved foreigners like me more than she loved China '.

The words came from 38-year-old Winston Sterzel. He is one of two main characters in a story that is as contradictory as it ends up deeply serious for two families who have to pack all their stuff together and move from the land they hitherto called home.

It is possible that this article provides further background information about where Winston Sterzel is currently living as well as further biographical information that can be used to expand the article.

Question of history: 1939 Standard E1 type

During WWII, from 1939 to 1945, Wilhelm Gutbrod produced in his Standard Fahrzeugfabrik, the freight three-wheeler type E1. According to forum entries, the design changed from a RR-layout to a FF chain-driven front wheel, like Oscar Vidal & Sons Tempo company did on their vehicles. As the forum user also "renewed" the nameplate, I really get doubt about the design change. I'm not sure if four holdings in (academic/reasearch/state) libraries - from what I can see - qualifies as "commonly held". Anyway, it happens to be available where I live but only in a library that I do not frequent. If the material isn't available outside of Germany, maybe the requesting user can take their request to de:WP:BIBA? Alternatively, feel free to let me know me later this year if the request is not yet being worked on at that point. Yeah, it's also the first time I've requested a magazine article, and it's also rather unusual that original dinosaur research is published in such rather than in "real" scientific journals". As for the perhaps unpublished paper, I was notified of it on a palaeontology mailing list, and the dinosaur it is about, Giganotosaurus, is a featured article, so I was thinking it would be best to keep it up to date every time something new about it is published. It's not that unusual. Many journals have a section on their site for articles that will be published in a future issue. The text is already available (often already in its final version) but, since the issue as a whole hasn't been published, the article does not have the final layout / page numbers / a publication date etc. As these versions are only provided on the publisher's site, not on third-party aggregator platforms, they are frequently not available through university libraries unless it's a major publisher. @KAVEBEAR: To clarify, the 1965 George Allen & Unwin (London) edition and the 1966 Doubleday (New York) edition are both translated by Reginald Spink. The Gauguins Sönderhavsår mentioned above is the Swedish title of the book, not a different translator. George Allen & Unwin had an Australian subsidiary at Crows Nest, New South Wales, but not until 1976, so I can't square the requested 1965 year with the requested Australian place of publication. Going by Google snippets, there's no obvious difference in the U.K. and U.S. editions other than pagination and spelling (annexe vs. annex, for instance), so it might help you get what you need if you elaborated on how you compared them and why your comparison found them dissimilar. --Worldbruce (talk) 20:13, 10 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
