  • June 21 – The PBCom Tower, the tallest building in the country upon its completion, opens.

July

  • July 10 – Torrential rains destabilized a mountain of garbage which collapsed onto a shanty town called "Promised Land" in Payatas, Quezon City, about 800 shanties built upon trash were destroyed and at least 218 people were killed in the avalanche of waste.[1]

October

  • A major blackout knocked out power to Luzon Island, disrupting the economy. This one was attributed to the enormous school of jellyfish.[1]
