FM 3479 begins at FM 156 in northern Fort Worth. It travels east and then north along Harmon Road East, and is a two-lane roadway for its entire length. The route passes through rural, undeveloped portions of the city before ending at an interchange with the US 81 / US 287 freeway.
FM 3479 was designated in 1986, along its current route. Despite being a relatively rural route, TxDOT internally transferred the mileage of the highway to Urban Road 3479 (UR 3479) in 1995; as with other urban roads, signage still uses the traditional Farm Road marker.
