Savoy Cinema
[edit]Abishe, the article you've created is a clear copyright violation, taken directly from :http://eapmovies.com/component/eapmovies/?controller=theaters&view=theater&task=displayTheater&cid=3&Itemid=154, in breach of Wikipedia's policies. On this basis the article should be deleted however rather than nominating for speedy deletion I'm proposing to give you 48 hours to address this issue. I will try and help with the re-write however you will need to do most of the work yourself. Dan arndt (talk) 10:15, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
- Too late someone else has identified the copyright violations- I have been trying to locate independent reliable sources and so far the only one I can find is [1]. Dan arndt (talk) 10:51, 30 May 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Savoy Cinema (Sri Lanka)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Savoy Cinema (Sri Lanka), requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It appears to be a clear copyright infringement of http://www.whatsupcolombo.lk/site-search/3d-p-1.aspx. (See section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. However, even if you use one of these processes to release copyrighted material to Wikipedia, it still needs to comply with the other policies and guidelines to be eligible for inclusion. If you would like any assistance with this, you can ask a question at the help desk.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 10:24, 30 May 2017 (UTC)

The article Sri Lankan cricket team in India in 1986–87 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Not encyclopedic article. Shri Lanka and India have been playing cricket with each-other since decades. Creating such articles for every year is not feasible. The article has also been incomplete since at least January 2016. Nobody cares about that stuff/particular year. Not notable. Just one randomly chosen year from long history of Indian cricket.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. —usernamekiran(talk) 10:53, 4 June 2017 (UTC)
@User: usernamekiran I created this article because Wikipedia mentioned that any volunteer wikipedians can create articles related to international cricket tours in mid 1980's.I can call this article to be deleted at any moment.Abishe (talk) 08:52, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
Hello Abishe. The reasons given for that PROD are incorrect and inapproriate, based on total lack of understanding about the project and how WP operates. I have issued a caution because he was bang out of order. All first-class cricket tours are notable events per WP:CRIN and one of our aims at WP:CRIC is to create an article for every tour (in fact, I think we've nearly achieved it bar a few that have slipped through the net). Well done and all the best. Jack | talk page 20:13, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of 9 M's
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on 9 M's requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This page appears to be a direct copy from http://www.spencertom.com/2016/04/04/9-ms-resource-audit-checklist. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka
[edit]Dear Abishe,
Thank you for your contributions to the Wikimedia Projects. As an editor from Sri Lanka, you are warmly invited to join the official Wikimedia Community User Group Sri Lanka and to subscribe to its mailing list, Wikimedia-LK. The user group currently includes volunteers from Wikipedia and other projects, from the English, Sinhala, and Tamil speaking communities. It is the Wikimedia-approved platform for editors from Sri Lanka to enable wider collaboration, for both online and offline projects. With your support, we hope to organize cross-project content improvement drives as part of online projects, as well as organize in-person edit-a-thons, training sessions, photowalks, and other such activities, in the near future. The ultimate goal(s) of these initiatives is to improve the overall coverage and quality of topics relating to Sri Lanka, as well as encourage new editors to join the Wikimedia community, while simultaneously empowering and retaining our existing team of editors. There are no mandatory obligations for members who choose join the community, other than the usual editing rules for online projects, and the friendly space policy for in-person projects. You may also (or instead) subscribe to the mailing list, where any member could initiate discussions with volunteers across projects, notify members of events and meetings, stay up to date with competitions, organize your own events, and so on. See you on board, and Happy Editing! | |

Welcome to WikiProject Disability
[edit]Welcome to the group Abishe, I have a challenge for you. You may have noticed that we have a project to create a "Disability in <country>" article that briefly summarises the basic information about disability in each country of the world. The aim is to turn every link in the Disability by country navbox blue.
I see you are from Sri Lanka, so here's the challenge - would you like to start Draft:Disability in Sri Lanka? Take a look at some of the articles that already exist to see the general pattern. Some good examples to follow are Disability in South Africa, Disability in Peru, Disability in Canada and Disability in Yemen. To get you started I have posted a few sources on the draft page Draft:Disability in Sri Lanka. It would really help the project if you could contribute to this, but you are of course under no obligation to do it. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 09:43, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
@Dodger67 I just created Disability in Sri Lanka with additional information and with the help of the information in the draft page.If I created this article without your permission,I kindly apologies for it. Abishe (talk) 10:25, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Cross-site file talk page
[edit]I see you just created File talk:Alastair Cook test batting career v1.png here on English Wikipedia, but the file itself is actually on the commons media site instead (transfered there over a year ago). en:File:Alastair Cook test batting career v1.png does not exist (the commons file propagates itself), so having a talkpage for it seems confusing. The actual commons:File:Alastair Cook test batting career v1.png does have a talkpage, but now that it's on a wider-audience site, I'm not sure it's really within local wikiproject scope. New Page Reviewer granted
[edit]Hello Abishe. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.
- URGENT: Please consider helping get the huge backlog down to a manageable number of pages as soon as possible.
- Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
- Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
- Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. Alex ShihTalk 01:29, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

deleting housing (disambiguation)
[edit]r.e. see the redirect discussion is there another way to do this? what was bugging me here is that housing is an article about residential housing, however the term housing has other uses, e.g. gearbox housing, casings etc in engineering (e.g. see hidden headlamp). Is there any guideline friendly way to get link targets for these alternative meanings. Wikipedia is an amazing free resource of text, and IMO the links increase it's value: e.g. imagine the value to a foreign language speaker, seeing links that clarify the context (see the Hovercards feature); and imagine how it could evolve, with tools to auto-illustrate articles etc (imagine a tool that turned the text into text+speech slideshow) MfortyoneA (talk) 19:15, 22 September 2017 (UTC)

The article Ruby Coffin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
I see no notability here, certainly not for tennis
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Fyunck(click) (talk) 08:29, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!

If you want a reward for your effort with tagging and being involved with the contest let me know, it'll be about £18 UK. If you want it let me know if Sri Lanka can get Amazon goods and I'll buy you the reward on Amazon India site, OK?♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:13, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

About time Amazon got their act together with shipping to certain countries.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:01, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
Hello, Abishe. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Tega Richard (tennis player), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.
Adamtt9 (talk) 04:17, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
I see you assessed this article as Stub (provides very little meaningful content). See Wikipedia:Assessing articles. It would be helpful if you would give advice on the article's talk page (not here) explaining what improvements would be needed to bring the article up to C (useful to a casual reader). Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 12:29, 2 December 2017 (UTC)
- I do not understand. The article is a biography not a list, and has not changed since it was assessed. Again, the question is what improvements are needed to get it up to C class. Aymatth2 (talk) 12:41, 2 December 2017 (UTC)

ArbCom 2017 election voter message
[edit]Hello, Abishe. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Single factor resources
[edit]Hello, Abishe. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Single factor resources".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply and remove the {{db-afc}}

, or {{db-g13}}
code.
If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter
[edit]Backlog update:
- The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
- Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!
Outreach and Invitations:
- If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with:
{{subst:NPR invite}}
. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.
New Year New Page Review Drive
- A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
- Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.
General project update:
- ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
- The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
- To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

New Article Review Reqeust!
[edit]Hi Naguleswaran,
I hope you are well and that I am posting in the right spot. I came across your talk page and thought you might be able to help with an article for a notable musician that I created. There seems to be a very severe backlog on drafts and the period for acceptance of new articles could be many months long so I thought that I could perhaps ask for you to review this draft and push it through if you think it is up to standard. I believe it is written neutrally and well referenced and several other Wikipedians have already made changes to the draft since I created it so the community has helped to better it, as well. I would appreciate your assistance in removing it from drafts and putting it into the article space, if possible. Here is a link to the draft. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ian_Erix Thank you kindly in advance for any help you can give. Best, Stefan

A question about Sri Lanka
[edit]Hi, I spotted you in category:Wikipedians in Sri Lanka and decided to ask a question. I see World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka article but is this all cultural heritage that is in Sri Lanka? In Ukraine we have monuments of different kinds that are protected as such on national or regional level, and Wikipedians made lists of them (in Wikipedia: namespace). Is there something like that for Sri Lanka? You know, if I go to Sri Lanka one dayI'd like to know what has to be pictured for Wikimedia Commons first of all Thanks! You recently tagged two articles as WP:A1, while they were deleted just not A1. A1 only applies to articles if you read the content of the article and do not understand what it is about. The first one said Banita Sandhu is a new actress in Bollywood
. There is plenty there to understand that this is a real person, she is an actress and she works in Bollywood. There isn't enough to make a claim to significance but there is enough that A1 doesn't apply.
The second one is even less eligible for A1. It read Ikenna Dieke is a professor and Head of English and Literary Studies[1],University of Nigeria,Nsukka.[2] He was a professor in the University of Arizona,[3] Arizona, USA.
It had three sources, not independent, that all worked. I deleted this one A7 also as there was no credible claim to significance.
Please make sure the criteria you use actually applies to the article. ~ GB fan 15:46, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
- Yes, I was just coming here to say the same thing. Please be careful about which criteria you select - it makes it more likely that an unsuitable article will not get deleted. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 16:09, 21 December 2017 (UTC)
