Re: INS Vikramaditya edit by Aze0098
Dear Anir1uph,
I am sorry about my edit on this page. I agree that it was copied. I was in a hurry and wasn't well for the past couple of days to check further. The reason i have added the said information was to ensure the images fit within the section in order to ensure a better presentation. Since u have been removing my added information regularly in the past stating it as irrelevant i suggest that an extra image should be removed from the section as it would make the presentation better. I am removing "Vikramaditya sailing with INS Viraat in the Arabian Sea." image as the above image also shows the same. If u do not agree u may revert but please ensure that images and text stay within a section.
Also regarding the CIWS i am not sure whether Barak 8 has been confirmed as there is no official statement. Only an Indian navy source told jane's magazine about it, their is also talk of a open tender competition to get CIWS (read in the article earlier) hence i mentioned it as a Jane magazine opinion. I also appreciate you correcting statements on "list of indian naval accidents" page as these are minute details often left out by editors.
Further regarding certain news references, they could be incorrect or miss spelt, for example the hindu claims that India has Asia's first STBF on Feb 1 20141 while new york times in a report in 2011 has said the chinese have already built a STBF2 and confirmed by this 3 , same with the western navy scenario and Rabinder Dhowan- Robin Dhowan fiasco due to which i had to write it as RK Dhowan (initially nd someone changed that), so it is wiser to use multiple sources to verify.
In the end as a fellow Indian and Wikipedian i believe that mutual differences aside we can work together to make India related articles more informative and with a neutral view point.
Thank You for pointing out my mistakes
With regards
jthomas91 09:16, 11 May 2014 (UTC) Aze0098(talk)
- OK! We can use info provided by Jane's generally without any questions. They are one of the most reliable sources for defence related articles. We generally follow the principle "Verifiability, not truth!" The Hindu claim on STBF is of course wrong, and was corrected in that article long time back by another editor. I pointed out the paraphrasing issue as you are new and most new editors may do it, until the issue is explicitly pointed out to them (I did too!). Other editors simply revert each and every errant addition of a copyright-violating editor, which may seem like reversion of a lot of effort, but it is legally necessary. (see this) I have seen many fellow editors suffer community sanctions and blocks for failing to paraphrase content. We can all learn from our mistakes, and if pointed out early, it will help both you as well as me! I wish you all the very best! Anir1uph | talk | contrib 13:06, 11 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited INS Kursura (S20), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page La Corunna (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2001–02 India–Pakistan standoff
Hi Anir! i want to talk with you about 2001–02 India–Pakistan standoff article! in this article some Pakistani His user id is Smsarmad is mentioned 1300 Indian soldiers are died in 2001–02 India–Pakistan standoff! i think This much of soldiers are never die! so i am reverted it. so could you watch this article! because its prestigious issue for Indian army! (Visakha veera (talk) 14:19, 11 June 2014 (UTC))
As a Indian its shame on us! they are hiding the truth! if Indians are 789 to 1,874 die in that action? how many Pakistanis are die?? in kargil war they die! first you find how many Pakistanis are die. (Visakha veera (talk) 14:33, 11 June 2014 (UTC))
- There is nothing shameful about any of this. War, preparation for war, and maintaining peace after war all takes it tolls on armies irrespective of geography or history. The figures seem correct, supported by very credible Times of India reference, hence I have re-added them. You really must not remove them. Lack of casualty numbers of the Pakistani side are never an issue when writing about the Indian casualties. I suggest you should be proud of the fact that in your land, each and every soldier's actions and sacrifice are publicly accounted and recorded. Plus, if you find credible sources of Pakistan Army casualties, I encourage you to add them too. As far as editing by Smsarmad is concerned, he is a highly experienced Wikipedia editor with more than 36,000 edits, and he is unlikely to damage any article here. His contribution to wiki is respected by me, and perhaps you should too! Cheers! Anir1uph | talk | contrib 14:44, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

The same ip "Special:Contributions/108.84.26.45" who has been repeatedly removing sourced content from the State-sponsored terrorism article has been adding some content about the balochs being funded by india. Department of Management Studies, IIT Roorkee
Hi Anir1uph
I see you have been reverting what seems to be promotional, unsourced etc. edits to this page by Abhishaked (talk · contribs). After your last revert on 23 Feb, on 25 Feb Mediacell domsiitr (talk · contribs) edited it to exactly the same state Abishaked had! See diff here, no difference! They did remove some fluff later. I presume the new user is PR people or staff at 'Media cell DOMS, IITR' and therefore has a COI which I have informed them about.
I have reverted here to the last version by you, keeping some intervening useful edits, and adding some edits of my own. Just FYI. :-) --220 of Borg 01:31, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- @220 of Borg: - Thanks for your help! I have not been editing regularly for the past few months as I am busy in my education/stuff. I try not to edit IIT Roorkee-related articles, unless some edit is clearly violating wiki-policy or if i see that an article is missing some very basic info, as it is my alma mater. :) Thanks again! Anir1uph | talk | contrib 15:09, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- No problem. Someone needs to have a word to the 'Media cell' people about their Wikipedia editing. Esp COI, NPOV and sourcing. You did see here where Abhishaked said they were "... doing changes on behalf of Media-cell." ? :-\ --220 of Borg 15:47, 26 June 2014 (UTC)
- @220 of Borg:, yeah I had seen that, and tried to explain the concept of COI and others in reply to a couple of email they had written to me to my gmail account via wiki. These problems specially recur during the college admission season, where the college/dept wiki entries get a lot of promotional edits. Anir1uph | talk | contrib 16:55, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

INS Kolkata.JPG
The file INS Kolkata.JPG is the file of LiveFist.... And the author has given me rights to publish the file in wikipedia... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaaron95 (talk • contribs) 16:58, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Jaaron95: if Mr. Aroor indeed given your permission to use the image, please ask him to send you a watermark-free image, and submit the emailed permission from him to WP:OTRS (or just forward the email conversation to OTRS, where he granted you explicit permission along with the relevant license to use the image on Wikipedia). Wikipedia takes copyright issues very seriously, as it is a legal matter. Kindly also read Copyright violations to make yourself aware of the issue in detail. You are a new user here, kindly do not undo that edit, as you will get blocked if you persistently violate copyright here. Thanks! Anir1uph | talk | contrib 17:17, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
- I would also like to add here that the images copyright does not belong to Mr Shiv Aroor. It belongs to the Indian Ministry of Defence/Indian Navy, and hence I am clueless why he chose to put his own watermark on those images. Till now, the MOD/Navy have not released any of those images with a license that can enable us to upload them here on Wiki. Do check the Indian Navy's image copyright template. This is the proper license, and I have myself uploaded about a hundred navy images using this license. So you would have to wait for the Navy to release those images via official website. Thanks! About INS Kolkata.jpg
@Anir1uph: I request you to please take down the image INS Kolkata.jpg, the prior permission was given by just sending Yes in Facebook message... But now I have asked them to send a mail to my mail address regarding permission... Kindly give me the procedure by which I can upload the image....Jaaron95 03:20, 13 July 2014 (UTC)
- @Jaaron95: Hey! don't worry about the image you uploaded at File:INS Kolkata.JPG, as it will be deleted automatically after some time. Here is the list of things you need to do to get an image like that accepted into Wikimedia Commons.
- Ask Mr. Shiv to send you (via email) an original image with no watermark, along with stating clearly that he has no problems if that image is uploaded on Wikipedia with the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license. You can assure him that his name will always be displayed as the image's author.
- Forward that email conversation to the email id mentioned in WP:OTRS - permissions-commons@wikimedia.org
- Upload the image and place {{OTRS pending}} in the licensing info section of that page.
- Wait for reply from the OTRS volunteer. IF they are satisfied with the permission/licensing requirements, then they will replace the 'OTRS Pending' tag with an 'OTRS Pending' tag, and your work is done. The reply can be delayed, often up to 2 weeks. But the 'OTRS pending' tag will ensure that the image will not be deleted till it is properly reviewed. (Note: Obviously non-free images may still be removed. Sending fake email permission to the OTRS can easily be detected, and offenders are blocked.)
- Please see Using OTRS to gain permission for specific details and Permission for general info. Anir1uph | talk | contrib 05:55, 13 July 2014 (UTC)

Pictures of the INS Kolkatta
Hi, i saw your recent work in uploading a pic of INS Kamorta, good work on that btw. I wanted to know about finding a good picture for the INS Kolkatta as well. This link has a lot of good pics [1], and from the angle of the shots it looks to be taken from an Indian Navy helicopter, however i am unable to find the source of the pics for attribution. could you take a look and see if any of these pics can be uploaded to the wikipedia article on kolkatta class? thanks and regards Pvpoodle (talk) 09:36, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hey! I am already on this issue. Those images have definitely been taken by the Indian Navy, but we can only use those images which are released by the navy on their website so that they are covered by the Indian Navy's image copyright template. The images will most probably be released on the website officially when the ship is commissioned, so we will have to wait till then. The link that you mentioned hosts only a few of the unofficially released images, and have taken them from Shiv's blog. Scroll down there to see the latest high quality images and even two videos, but we sadly cannot upload them on Commons, and they can be only used for now for personal viewing. For the time being, we will have to make do with File:Kolkata-class destroyer port view CGI.JPG, which was created by me as a stop gap measure. :) Anir1uph | talk | contrib 10:10, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- hi, and thanks for the quick reply. yea i follow shivs blog and his you tube channel as well, but he keeps adding his lame watermarks to all his pictures. i dont know where jeff head got his pics but his weren't watermarked so thats why i linked him instead (even though i despise jeff head's writing) :). i guess we will just have to wait for the navy to release the pics. i just got excited seeing the kamorta pics and wanted to jump the gun :P.
- oh and btw i updated the cost figures on the Kolkata-class destroyer page you created. The original article by ajai shulka misrepresented the cost figures and has been causing confusion ever since. i used a later article by him to correct this discrepancy. I hope this is acceptable. thanks and regards, Pvpoodle (talk) 10:27, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- Oh yeah - Shiv and his watermarks! They are not even his images, then why the stamp? I have no idea. Tho I can work hard to remove them using photoshop, but it takes ages to get a perfectly scrubbed image :D
- I had uploaded the Kamorta pics as soon as they were released on the navy's website. :)
- I saw your edits and I am glad that you made them! It is good to have experienced editors like you contributing here, so editors don't have to spend time verifying or tweaking edits by each other - it saves a lot of time! For quite some time, only Strike Eagle and I were working on Indian Navy articles (we both are a little busy off-wiki these days), and I am very glad to have you here! :D Anir1uph | talk | contrib 10:41, 21 July 2014 (UTC)
- dont even get me started on shiv. he is a nice enough fellow but all his articles start with "BREAKING NEWS" or "EXCLUSIVE", in all caps, even when its old news that has been reported before. yea i have noticed that both you and strike eagle contribute a lot to these articles. Thank you for the compliment but i am not that experienced a wiki editor as its hard to find time to contribute. As someone from a family with strong military ties , i have had a fascination with the armed forces from childhood and a strong memory for all things military related. i just want to make sure wiki reports facts accurately and gives credit where it is due. cheers.
