I made a change to the "The Marine Biologist" (seinfeld episode) page stating that when Jerry refers to his Golden Boy t-shirt as "The Iron Man" he is referencing baseball player Cal Ripken Jr, not the super hero Iron Man. Cal Ripken was known as "The Iron Man" because of his record for the most consecutive games played. Jerry is bragging about how his t-shirt always ready to go and "that's why he's The Iron Man." Notice he says "THE Iron Man" and not "Iron Man." Please refer to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_Ripken_Jr and you will see that in the very first line of the article he is referred to as "The Iron Man". If Jerry were to reference a superhero, it would have been Superman. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.160.246.236 (talk) 06:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Welcome to the Guild of Copy Editors

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

Hello Glacialfox, a very warm welcome to the Guild of Copy Editors. We are pleased to have you join us!

To start, you may want to copy edit an article from our Requests page, or pick one from our backlog. If you need any assistance, feel free to leave a note on our talk page, or you can contact any of our coordinators. If you are new to copy editing, you may want to join our Mentorship program. You may also want to participate in our Backlog elimination drives. Below, you will find list of useful links for your convenience.

Thanks again for joining the Guild, and do make yourself at home.

– Your GOCE coordinators: Diannaa (Talk), Chaosdruid (talk), The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs and Slon02

I'd be happy to mentor you. Can we start tomorrow? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:33, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

Sounds good. :D Where to start? Maybe I could try an article and you could give me feedback? I dunno. :P
That's what I did with my first mentee, and I suppose that could work with you, as well. So let's start there. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:51, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
I want you to choose any article with a {{copy edit}} tag and copy edit it. Let me know when you're done so I can take a look at it. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 22:55, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
I just tried this one. :3 I'm a bit concerned about that "coincidentally" in the article, cause it doesn't seem like a coincidence to me. O__o I tried not to go overboard on the commas even though there were many places I wanted to use them, apparently I use too many. :P Glacialfox (talk) 00:39, 12 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry for the delay, something came up that I had to take care of. It looks like you did some reformatting as well as copy editing, but you missed a couple things. See here and here for my copy edits. There were a few issues with commas, tone, and capitalization, as you can tell. But you did do a good first job. I'll plan a lesson for you and let you know when it's ready. Regards, The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:56, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

Hey Glacialfox, I've been working on a lesson for you, but I need another sample of your copy editing. Could you choose another article tagged with the copy edit tag and copy edit it for me? Thanks, The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 03:14, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

I'm currently trying to decide whether I should do this or if it would be best to just stick with fixing typos, what do you think? :P Glacialfox (talk) 22:51, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I've decided I am going to stick with copyediting, I'll try another one within a few days. :) Glacialfox (talk) 23:09, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Do you think you could choose an article for me? xP Glacialfox (talk) 03:03, 9 December 2011 (UTC)
How about Do Something? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 23:14, 10 December 2011 (UTC)
well, this should take a while. :P i'm starting it now Glacialfox (talk) 23:05, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
This is rather hard, copyediting must be a tough life haha. is there a way you can mark it as that it's currently being copy edited so that you can save what you currently have and continue at another time Glacialfox (talk) 23:11, 12 December 2011 (UTC)
Of course. Adding the {{GOCEinuse}} tag shows that you're working on the article. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 15:34, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Glacialfox, I was wondering how your copy editing is coming? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:32, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

oh woops, i totally forgot to finish it. it's going meh :P Glacialfox (talk) 14:34, 22 December 2011 (UTC)

Your question

Hello Glacialfox, I see that you asked me a question on November 9th. I apologize, I just now noticed the question. There are three ways to revert to a non-vandalized revision when there are multiple vandalism edits in succession. If the edits are all by the same editor, you can use rollback to revert all of the editor's consecutive changes. If there are several vandalism revisions from several users, there are other reversal methods. The easiest way is to use twinkle's "Restore this revision" button that appears when you click on a Diff. To manually revert a group of consecutive vandalism edits, click on the history tab. On the history tab, there is a timestamp for each revision. Click on the latest timestamp prior to the vandalism edits. When you click on the timestamp, it will bring up that version of the article. Now, click on the "edit" button. A warning should appear at the top of the edit window with this message:

If you click the save button, it will revert all changes made after that revision. To answer the second part of your question, if a single editor keeps vandalizing an article, you can report them to Administrator intervention against vandalism after you have warned them four times. If the article is vandalized by multiple editors continuously, you can request the article be semi-protected by filing a request at Request for page protection. I hope that answers your question. Best wishes, Alpha_Quadrant (talk) 18:17, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

Changing quoted text

Hi. I've reverted your recent edit to Liberties Act 1850. The word you changed was part of a blockquote, and changes of this sort should only be made with care (especially when dealing with older source texts), such as when the source text has been inaccurately reproduced, or if it perhaps contains a blatant typographical error (such as "teh" for "the"). In this case, the source text clearly uses "unfrequently"; while not a common word, it is nevertheless listed in the OED, and appears twice in the same paragraph in the source text (which admittedly wasn't obvious due to errors in the blockquote). Cheers, Andrew Gwilliam (talk) 23:43, 29 November 2011 (UTC).

Oh whoops, I was totally being really careful to not change quotes too haha. I've just been going through the lists of common misspellings letter by letter and fixing things and that was on it. :P Thank you for telling me. :3 Glacialfox (talk)

"Unfortunately"

It's all well and good correcting a misspelling of the word, but the chances are that when this word appears in articles, it's in a point-of-view statement. - Dudesleeper talk 01:35, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense. I forgot about the whole point of view thing so thanks for reminding me. :P Glacialfox (talk) 01:37, 30 November 2011 (UTC)

Warning vandals on Zooey Deschanel

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Zooey Deschanel: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. --AW (talk) 19:00, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

About barnstars:

Glacialfox, not to sound like a barnstar fisher: I think it might be cool if you designed a star and proposed it for the purpose you were thinking. I do not expect to see a barnstar; only, this is too good an issue not to be raised and if you do, you must also propose what the star should look like. I did it with the Quasar Barnstar. If I am not mistaken, you can propose it here[1]. Anyway, best of luck and in fact, let me take this opportunity to beg you not to try to award me a barnstar at all. Djathinkimacowboy 16:25, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

This is a good idea, I'll start figuring out what to call it. :P By the way, what does Quasar mean? Glacialfox (talk) 16:59, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Oh, well I proposed that it be for editors who assist other editors in sailing Wikiwaters. Any editor who clarifies and explains rules, or improves the rules themselves at the proper forum to do so. If you think about it, anyone who assists, cleans up, does nice things, excellent editing, nearly infinite reasons to award it. Glad you like it, another fine editor designed it for me. Djathinkimacowboy 20:51, 13 December 2011 (UTC)
Sorry...a quasar is an intense swirl of gaseous energy, perhaps being pulled into a black hole and is found in galaxy centres. Its light outshines all light. When you think about it, it's a sort of Gothic-Romantic denizen of the universe. ;) Djathinkimacowboy 20:54, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Just looked at your main page. You have autism? So do I! Asperger. (But I also have an astronomical I.Q.) Djathinkimacowboy 20:57, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

That's awesome. :D I'm guessing that's probably why we both ended up on wikipedia haha. Glacialfox (talk) 03:06, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Well I have a query: do you know user CeilingCrash? That user left a weird and somewhat inappropriate message to me at my talk, claiming I edit the Asperger article and making insulting remarks about Wikipedia editors. I do not recognise that user, I have never been near or even seen the AS artilce or its talk page. Do you know about this at all by chance? Or know the editor? I am just trying to discover why he sent me what looks like a message for someone else. Djathinkimacowboy 04:57, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about the above: I struck it because I did comment on the talk page at the Asperger syndrome article and got some snotty replies there. Only I pay no attention to that article or talk page. It was confusing to get a comment so long after I went there. I went back, looked and I saw that those editors are not very friendly. I see why CeilingCrash dislikes that place. Djathinkimacowboy 05:03, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I looked just now and I don't understand what the heck is going on there haha Glacialfox (talk) 18:48, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

If you see my talk page, you'll see Ceiling was just trying to tell me it's useless to waste time at the article. Too many hot-heads trying to own the thing. Checked out the article and I frankly don't care what they're doing there. I have developed the philosophy of walking away from silly arguments. Djathinkimacowboy 22:42, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Reverted edit

Hello, you recently reverted an edit I made to Outline of James Bond. I believe that this revert was made in error, as the edit I made (I believe) was constructive. I would like to reinstate my edit, but I wanted to give you the courtesy of running it past you first. Thank you for your time, 67.180.192.222 (talk) 02:20, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, my bad. Ah, thank you. Glad we could get this cleared up so easily. 67.180.192.222 (talk) 02:50, 15 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello Glacialfox, U recently reverted a change i made, in door to hell. Well, i just wanted to help, i do not know how much u have knowledge about languages but just to explain: Dar: is a persian "در" word meaning "door". It is an ancient word, shared in Indoeuropean nations, including Persians. Waze: "واز+ه" is an adjective indicating open or wide. Literally means Wide or open door. In Persian language however it is used to indicate "gate" or "portal". Other modern use of this word is "goal" in football. But about the article It means Gate. regards, Farshid

Yeah=

"Revert edit by whitelisted..." Yeah yeah, whatever, just do it already It's funny, I usually don't ignore prompts, but I guess I was feeling a little rammy...

I just noticed this thread when I saw the "hot sexy" IP's comment. Regarding I blame igloo - I hate to be nit picky but when you use tools, you have to accept 100 percent responsibility for your edits. If igloo, AWB etc has some kind of glitch or whatever, it's your responsibility to be that much more careful. I notice you have like two years worth of editing in eight weeks. You're not in a race so take your time and enjoy yourself. My best wishes for a happy 2012. SlightSmile 04:27, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

John Harnad

I do not understand what are you trying to tell me here:

Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to John Harnad, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed.

What was not constructive and what is it that makes you to talk about constructivity? This is the full text of prof. Harnad's opinion about Wikipedia, as presented by prof. Hewitt

Wikipedia, on the contrary, is the enshrinement of contempt for learning, knowledge and expertise. It is, for many, a diversionary hobby to which they are prepared to devote a great portion of their time, as others do to computer based video games. Unfortunately, it has led also to an inner cult, shrouded in anonymity, with structures and processes of self-regulation that are woefully inadequate. Many of these tools and procedures are reminiscent, in parody, of those of the Inquisition: secret courts, an inner “elite” arbitrarily empowered to censor and exclude all those perceived as a threat to the adopted conventions of the cult; denunciations, character assassination, excommunication. An arbitrarily concocted “rulebook” and language rife with self-referential sanctimoniousness give a superficial illusion of order and good sense, but no such thing exists in practice. It is truly a “Tyranny of the Ignorant”.

So, what is your academic background that makes you to pass your judgement here?--71.163.236.199 (talk) 00:09, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm going to admit right now that I'm not the best to have this discussion with, I suggest you discuss this on the article talk page or with one of the other editors that reverted your edit, especially since I don't want you or anyone else to end up blocked for edit warring or something. (also, the warning thingy is a template, I didn't choose the words for it myself :P) Glacialfox (talk) 00:15, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Vandalism Levels

Hi!

I didn't realise that anyone was still using it, so I was just doing a bit of tidying up.

You can add the vandalism levels to your own userpage, just simply add {{Vandalism information}} anywhere on any page and you will get the same box. Alternatively, if you look at Template:Vandalism information, you can see in the documentation that there are quite a few variations that you can try out - go to Template_talk:Vandalism_information#Available_styles and hit show to see all the different ones.

Hope this helps!

GLOO

What the hell was that? — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 18:31, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm actually not quite sure, but it looks like somewhere along the way I decided to fail :P Glacialfox (talk) 18:53, 4 January 2012 (UTC)
I see what happened. Igloo saw the top part of the edit (adding in whitespace and modifying the section (so that it wasn't one). Normally an edit like that would be vandalism, and so Igloo flagged it red, which Glacialfox would have seen and reverted with one click. Sincerely, Akjar13 (He's Gone Mental) 08:29, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Don't editors actually see the edits they revert? User edited his own talk page and happened to make a small mistake, he didn't deserve a huge vandalism warning for that. Please take the time to leave a small note to him. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 16:13, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
With Igloo, you do see the changes, however if it is 'red' (the edit is in red in the list of recent changes), then it is considered vandalism. Because of the way the edit was, Glacialfox would have seen the mistake at the top, but not the legitimate content added. When choosing a diff to look at, all a user sees is the page name and Igloo's rating of it (red=probable vandalism, green=good edit, white=unsure). Often when using Igloo, users will automatically revert red edits, since Igloo is usually right. Besides, the problem has been rectified, and I'm sure that when he's next online, Glacialfox will happily apologise. Sincerely, Akjar13 (He's Gone Mental) 16:27, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Does the GLOO thing work with rollback? I'd like to test it but I don't have any superpowers. — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 16:45, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
I didn't mean to. :c And I went to get rid of the warning after I found out I made a mistake but it was already gone. Is the "Please take the time to leave a small note to him" directed at me? Glacialfox (talk) 17:04, 5 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. He removed the warning but may still think you're a jerk. (Well, probably not, he seems like a nice guy, but still.) (I didn't mean to make a big deal of this, sorry for the huge thread here.) — Jeraphine Gryphon (talk) 17:23, 5 January 2012 (UTC)

.es domain name

Thanks for your informative and timely message regarding the modifications I made to the .es domain name entry. I would argue that my edit was indeed constructive and would provide a more beneficial user experience to those encountering this article. This is due to the fact that the final example given isn't even really a website, and the domain name I replaced it with (ilovecooki.es) is a far more pleasing and clever domain hack. Thank you again, and good day. 65.96.125.17 (talk) 23:57, 9 January 2012 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Emily Meadows

Hello Glacialfox. I am just letting you know that I deleted Emily Meadows, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. ϢereSpielChequers 16:58, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Could you tell me when to use what criterias? I've been trying to figure this out for a while now. :P Glacialfox (talk) 16:59, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Sure, Wikipedia:Field guide to proper speedy deletion is a pretty good guide. WP:CSD is the policy but it can be a bit dry. I actually deleted that one per A7, I could see it was about a person but clearly no assertion of importance or significance. Hope that helps. ϢereSpielChequers 17:39, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused as what is going on, care to explain? :P Glacialfox (talk) 15:45, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Well, right now, there is an effort from a number of editors to Revitalize and Resurrect the CVU. As it stands now, the CVU does little more than serve as a repository for members who've signed up. There is talk of making CVU more than that, with a clearer set of goals and objectives. The most contentious part of this is plan is the use of 'Coordinators' in the same way that WP:GOCE and WP:MILHIST use them. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Achowat (talkcontribs)

Super Bowl edit

I made the correction I did because you used the wrong word. Here is what you posted:

The Packers were an NFL dynasty after being a winning team eight years earlier. The team had posted an NFL-worst 1–10–1 record in 1958 before legendary head coach Vince Lombardi was hired in January 1959.

I believe that what you meant is that the Packers team had become a dynasty by 1966 after going 1-10-1 eight years before. So that means the team was a losing team at that time. Therefore, the first sentence should be

The Packers were an NFL dynasty after being a losing team eight years earlier.

I'm going to change it with a bit of a rewrite - The Packers were an NFL dynasty, turning around what had been a losing team just eight years earlier. I think you'll agree this accurately reflects the matter. DrBear (talk) 02:23, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

I didn't post anything, I simply reverted your edit where you switched the words because I think by now when something is changed from "winning" to "losing" my first instinct is that it shouldn't be that, and then I realized that didn't make sense and removed the thing from your profile but I guess forgot to undo my edit. :P Glacialfox (talk) 02:45, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

Talk, please

Your changes seem to be just vandalism, I hope you still follow my request: Please use the talk pages! --91.10.35.216 (talk) 00:37, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

I've replied to your post in the talk page, I think the whole thing was just a bit of a misunderstanding. (I've removed the warnings from your profile as well) Glacialfox (talk) 00:38, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Not a total misunderstanding the reflist was being removed which is why it was flagged. Ive added that back in whilst removing other headers. If cite web was used it would of displayed errors so although not vandalism it wasn't right either. Edinburgh Wanderer 00:49, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
I checked after because I was was gonna go back and delete the two sections and leave the reflist thing, and I found that there were not any references in the articles that that would be needed for that(though it's probably supposed to be there anyways? I'm not sure) so that explains the removal of it as well. Glacialfox (talk) 00:51, 10 February 2012 (UTC)
Ive added it back in it should be there because if any refs using citeweb are added in it will display errors. All he had to do was move the reflist and delete the other headers which i have now done. It was unconstructive but not vandalism. Although the pointy replys to the one template make me think otherwise.Edinburgh Wanderer 00:59, 10 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi there. I hope you don't mind me asking, but why did you do this?

The 20 edits you reverted don't look like vandalism to me, but your message on User talk:Krausentube didn't really explain what the problem was.  ⊃°HotCrocodile...... + 19:44, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

I wasn't vandalizing, tried to keep a neutral pov, and cited everything that wasn't straight math or calendar-work. I intentionally 'modularized' my edits so they could be removed or altered without a wholesale removal of all of them - and yet, you removed all of them. Can I get some feedback here? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krausentube (talkcontribs) 21:23, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive update

GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.

Participation: We have had 58 people sign up for this drive so far, which compares favorably with our last drive, and 27 have copy-edited at least one article. If you have signed up but have not yet copy-edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! If you haven't signed up yet, it's not too late. Join us!

Progress report: Our target of completing the 2010 articles has almost been reached, with only 56 remaining of the 194 we had at the start of the drive. The last ones are always the most difficult, so thank you if you are able to help copy-edit any of the remaining articles. We have reduced the total backlog by 163 articles so far.

Special thanks: Special thanks to Stfg, who has been going through the backlog and doing some preliminary vetting of the articles—removing copyright violations, doing initial clean-up, and nominating some for deletion. This work has helped make the drive a more pleasant experience for all our volunteers.

seeking guidance and review

i have come across page named 'Kalwar' also redirected from 'Kalal'. possible vandalism was reverted by Cluebot NG on 21 feb 2012 to Jaychandra version 11 Feb 2012. again by you on 21 feb 2012. after that few editings have deleted Jaychandra version completely and replaced their version. i repeatedly objected and tried to restore but in vain. my point is that there were no deletion tags on contents, constant denial of legitimate facts by deleting editors. denying facts like thakurs of kalwar thikana near jaipur in rajasthan india, coat of arms awarded by then british govt., official website ref of castle kalwar, various relevant wiki articles and website ref, historical facts known to mankind from centuries. i am not defending Jaychandra but i think he has really done good work by compiling and delivering content on title 'Kalwar' or 'Kalal' in general from global perspective in a much larger periodical and geographical span, and think that is true Wikipedia Encyclopedic material, rather than region specific narrow approach by later editors. mention of temple of soloman only points to historical facts about deity in those temples and existence of name/title 'Kalal' at that time. article is in no way suggesting that temple of soloman was built by kalal but on the contrary it is only suggestive of totally opposite historical fact that temple of kalal was built by soloman. its sad that such a good article is scrapped just like that. However, i strongly feel that proper tagging is always better option and Wikipedia way than arrogant repeated deletion of other editors content. One always have option to add relevant content or question existing content by proper tagging but can anyone b really bossing around and depress other contributors by using Wiki jargons. i also feel that articles on this global forum should b looked at from global perspective. self righteousness should definitely be avoided. i am feeling deeply hurt by their behavior. plz guide and help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweapstalker (talkcontribs) 06:33, 24 March 2012 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 backlog elimination drive
GOCE March 2012 Backlog Elimination progress graph

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2012 Backlog elimination drive! This is the most successful drive we have had for quite a while. Here is your end-of-drive wrap-up newsletter.

Participation

Of the 70 people who signed up for this drive, 40 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Special acknowledgement goes out to Lfstevens, who did over 200 articles, most of them in the last third of the drive, and topped all three leaderboard categories. You're a superstar! Stfg and others have been pre-checking the articles for quality and conformance to Wikipedia guidelines; some have been nominated for deletion or had some preliminary clean-up done to help make the copy-edit process more fun and appealing. Thanks to all who helped get those nasty last few articles out of the target months.

Progress report

During this drive we were successful in eliminating our target months—October, November, and December 2010—from the queue, and have now eliminated all the 2010 articles from our list. We were able to complete 500 articles this month! End-of-drive results and barnstar information can be found here.

When working on the backlog, please keep in mind that there are options other than copy-editing available; some articles may be candidates for deletion, or may not be suitable for copy-editing at this time for other reasons. The {{GOCEreviewed}} tag can be placed on any article you find to be totally uneditable, and you can nominate for deletion any that you discover to be copyright violations or completely unintelligible. If you need help deciding what to do, please contact any of the coordinators.

Thank you for participating in the March 2012 drive! All contributions are appreciated. Our next copy-edit drive will be in May.

The article Attack Cat has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No notability beyond a single member.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
