GA Topics question

I just had a quick question. How long does a GAT take to process? I don't meant to sound pushy or anything, I was just wondering. My The X-Files (season 6) has been sitting in the queue for some time, and I didn't know if there's a step I missed. Cheers.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 17:49, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

OK, no problem. I just wanted to check and see if there wasn't something I still needed to do. Thanks for the timely response.--Gen. Quon (Talk) 18:53, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Good article reassessment/Delaware Route 17/1

Would you mind taking a look at this, as an active participant in the GA process? There are some legitimate issues with the article; however, it seems to be derailing into various sentiments including "Let's delist many of the road GAs and FAs!", "A road article must have the elements I want to be a GA", etc. --Rschen7754 21:29, 26 July 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Nick Adenhart

This is a note to let the main editors of Nick Adenhart know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on July 27, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 27, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654 (talk · contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87 (talk · contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change it—following the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:

Nick Adenhart pitching for the Salt Lake Bees in May 2008

Nick Adenhart (1986–2009) was an American right-handed baseball starting pitcher who played two seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. In four career games, Adenhart pitched 18 innings and posted a win-loss record of 1–0, with nine strikeouts and a 6.00 earned run average (ERA). A graduate of Williamsport High School, Adenhart was highly touted as a high school prospect until an injury in his final game required Tommy John surgery. He was drafted by the Angels in the 14th round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Draft, and began playing in their minor league system after the surgery was a success. He spent three full years in the minor leagues before making his major league debut on May 1, 2008. After appearing in three games, Adenhart spent the rest of 2008 in the minor leagues developing his skills, and in 2009 he earned a spot in the Angels' starting rotation. Just after pitching his first start of 2009, Adenhart was killed in a car accident by a drunk driver. Both the Angels and the Salt Lake Bees, for whom Adenhart played in 2008, suspended their next games. There were many tributes to him over the course of the season, including his former teammates spraying champagne and beer on one of his jerseys after they clinched the 2009 American League West division championship. (more...)

Hi wizardman. I was wondering, given that you and the other delegates seem to be short on time, if you didn't mind me handling promoting/failing GTCs/FTCs for a while? After promoting 15 the other night (and noticing my mistakes) I think I could handle it by myself need be. Thanks for the response. TropicalAnalystwx13 (talk) 19:03, 27 July 2012 (UTC)

WikiCup 2012 July newsletter

Trophy.png

We're approaching the beginning of 2012's final round. Pool A sees Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) as the leader, with 300 points being awarded for the featured article Bivalvia, and Pool B sees Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) in the lead, with 10 good articles, and over 35 articles eligible for good topic points. Pool A sees New York City Muboshgu (submissions) in second place with a number of articles relating to baseball, while Pool B's Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) follows Grapple X, with a variety of contributions including the high-scoring, high-importance featured article on the 2010 film Pride & Prejudice. Ruby2010, like Grapple X, also claimed a number of good topic points; despite this, not a single point has been claimed for featured topics in the contest so far. The same is true for featured portals.

Currently, the eighth-place competitor (and so the lowest scorer who would reach the final round right now) has scored 332, more than double the 150 needed to reach the final round last year. In 2010, however, 430 was the lowest qualifying score. In this competition, we have generally seen scores closer to those in 2010 than those in 2011. Let's see what kind of benchmark we can set for future competitions! As ever, if you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Old cleanup

Hi Wizardman, some of us are taking another whack at the review and cleanup at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Vanished 6551232 would you care to join us? There are a few small articles left to review and several big ones we've all been avoiding. All hands welcome! Montanabw(talk) 17:06, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

I need your input over this [as soon as you can]

Please take a look at this debate and give me your input over which solution is the most suitable for the situation. Thanks. —Hahc21 05:11, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

  • Ha, and now I'm here as well. Wizardman, I'll leave this here instead of commenting again on that project talk page. I understand now that part of what you and Hahc21 were talking about is the count for the drive--I have no opinion on that, just to make that clear, and my comments on those articles as GAs should be taken for what they are, just comments: maybe they should be delisted pending copyright concerns, though I think the ones I tackled are now free of such concern. But I just had a look at Portrait of Madame Cézanne, and MathewTownsend (who seems very, very frustrated with aspects of the GA process) commented that maybe "the quoted material is longer than the article is". Does that affect GA status? I'm going to trim that the way I trimmed Girl with Ball and others, since it's pretty egregious--moreover, there's some pretty lengthy quotes in the article text, besides the need for some copyedits. At any rate, your help in cleanup is appreciated. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 16:02, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
  • Well, I'm done with the Portrait and I think it needs a second set of eyes. It's not bad, but it was not really that good in the first place and it wasn't properly copyedited. But the quotes are gone; I didn't yet remove the tag. Drmies (talk) 17:13, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Let's get a Good Topic

I was about to create Book:Major League Baseball tie-breakers, not knowing it already existed. Once I found it, I noticed just how close it is to a GT. All we need is 1951 National League tie-breaker series (and possibly Shot Heard 'Round the World, though I'm not sure it's necessary due to the overlap). I see you've got the 1951 series article listed as a task, and you did good work expanding it in June. Need any help? And what's your thought on including or excluding the Shot article? – Muboshgu (talk) 22:53, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Drive >> Barnstars

I will begin awarding barnstars to those users whom reviews were all checked. Also, i will go and check some more reviews to leave only Rp0211, Status and TBrandley opened for further investigation over their reviews before awarding them barnstars. Additionally, for the next drive, I will delete the "most reviews" award, as it was commented to be one of the factors over why users "rubber-stamped" reviews. —Hahc21 04:35, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm on vacations, so i will award the barnstars when i go back. Several things i wanted to note (and i consider that should or) will be deleted/modified for the next drive:
  1. No most-reviews award. Only awards from 1 to 25 reviews.
  2. No leaderboard until the drive's end.
  3. I'd like to see some daily review and open review limit. Maybe a maximum of 10 reviews per day will do the trick.
Also, per the massive review removal we faced this drive, I won't award the #1 Rank medal to anyone. We can reach a conclusion about this when you (and I) go back from break/vacs. I will explain to you why i think we should'nt give such award by email. —Hahc21 23:27, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
Okay, so we'll have no #1 rank, great. Awards will be for 5, 15 and 25 only. And review limit will be downgraded to 5. I was thinking about the future drive to be on December or January, as i'm sure the list of awaiting reviews will be at some 600 for that timespan. Have any ideas about it? —Hahc21 02:41, 8 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm back from vacations. I will start awarding barnstars and continue checking reviews. Sorry i haven't written the email to you, i will do it this week. Another question: I was thinking the next drive for January. Do you think it is too close? or it's a good period? Regards. — ΛΧΣ21 03:48, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Talk:Andranik Ozanian/GA1

It looks like this was taken for review by User:Susuman77 six weeks ago, on June 30, and said user hasn't done anything else to it, or edited on Wikipedia at all since July 4. While the comments were not encouraging in terms of the article making GA, the nominator has done a great deal of editing, and it is a greatly changed article now. However, the article has just acquired a Copypaste template for one of its sections, something I've not run into before, and which I imagine could mean a GA review failure if this is serious copypaste rather than minor (easily fixable) close paraphrasing. (The book cited is copyright 1971.) Can I ask you to take a look at it and decide what should be done with it? BlueMoonset (talk) 02:46, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick reply. I've been following up on some of the older reviews and holds today, trying to get some action taken on them. Another that looks mostly abandoned is Talk:Cat Daddy/GA3: reviewer Rp0211 appears to have brought it back to fix an earlier miscommunication, but hasn't done anything to it since the next day. The review as a whole is 50 days old and on hold, the second oldest of the holds. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:26, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for participating in my RfA. I very much appreciate your input and hope to alleviate the concerns expressed over the next several months so that perhaps one day I will be able to serve the community with the +sysop flag.

By the way, I notice you had an RfB several years ago, and I was wondering if you were still interested in pursuing the role. I've seen your name pop up a lot over the years — you are definitely someone who has the judgement, communication skills, policy knowledge, and experience to be an extremely effective bureaucrat. We need more people like you, who are willing to make difficult decisions when others may not be inclined to do so, but out of necessity for the betterment of Wikipedia. I can think of very few who would be more suited for bureaucratship than yourself. But it is entirely your choice, so don't feel pressured into it or anything.

Take care. =) Kurtis (talk) 17:36, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Cool. I'll remove it.
I just had a look at Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/GVnayR 4 and as far as I can tell all the files are deleted or has a "non-free"-template except for the 3 files in Category:File at CCI by GVnayR 4. Do you think more work needs to be done for the unfree files? One way was to put all files in a gallery for a few minutes and scan the images to see if there are files that looks like something that should not be fairuse. Another way was to check all the files one by one. --MGA73 (talk) 18:45, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Abandoned review? Talk:Georgian Orthodox Church/GA1

Wizardman, as far as I can tell, the nominator, Susuman77, hasn't edited since his last comment on the GA review on July 4, and the reviewer, JZCL, hasn't edited on Wikipedia for over two weeks, August 9. Is there a way to declare a review effectively abandoned, and end it, and should that be done here? It's the third-oldest extant hold at 51 days and counting. Thanks.

PS: I've just dropped a note on RP0211's talk page about reviewing the oldest hold, the Cat Daddy article. RP's edited once since August 8: a short session on August 22. It could be the review was just forgotten; my reminder was posted today. BlueMoonset (talk) 22:55, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Interestingly, Jetstreamer is credited at WP:GAN with having completed one GAN review. The bot appears to count reviews by number of /GAx pages created, and bearing in mind that that /GA2 page was created back in May 2012, I strongly suspect that Jetstreamer has never completed a GAN Review - it's still the same one in progress. Hello there. I saw this from Wikipedia:WikiProject Tennis/Article guidelines and wondered if the same might be applied to baseball articles, such as the Larry Doby article where we implemented ndashes: "note the using of an ndash instead of a hyphen. WikiCup 2012 August newsletter

Trophy.png

The final is upon us! We are down to our final 8. A massive 573 was our lowest qualifying score; this is higher than the 150 points needed last year and the 430 needed in 2010. Even in 2009, when points were acquired for mainspace edit count in addition to audited content, 417 points secured a place. That leaves this year's WikiCup, by one measure at least, our most competitive ever. Our finalists, ordered by round 4 score, are:

  1. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions) once again finishes the round in first place, leading Pool B. Grapple X writes articles about television, and especially The X-Files and Millenium, with good articles making up the bulk of the score.
  2. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions) led Pool A this round. Fourth-place finalist last year, Miyagawa writes on a variety of topics, and has reached the final primarily off the back of his massive number of did you knows.
  3. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions) was second in Pool B. Ruby2010 writes primarily on television and film, and scores primarily from good articles.
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions) finished third in Pool B. Casliber is something of a WikiCup veteran, having finished sixth in 2011 and fourth in 2010. Casliber writes on the natural sciences, including ornithology, botany and astronomy. Over half of Casliber's points this round were bonus points from the high-importance articles he has worked on.
  5. Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions) came second in Pool A. Also writing on biology, especially marine biology, Cwmhiraeth received 390 points for one featured article (Bivalvia) and one good article (pelican), topping up with a large number of did you knows.
  6. New York City Muboshgu (submissions) was third in Pool A. Muboshgu writes primarily on baseball, and this round saw Muboshgu's first featured article, Derek Jeter, promoted on its fourth attempt at FAC.
  7. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions) was fourth in Pool A. She writes on a variety of topics, including horses, but this round also saw the high-importance lettuce reach featured article status.
  8. Canada Sasata (submissions) is another WikiCup veteran, having been a finalist in 2009 and 2010. He writes mostly on mycology.

However, we must also say goodbye to the eight who did not make the final, having fallen at the last hurdle: Russia GreatOrangePumpkin (submissions), England Ealdgyth (submissions), England Calvin999 (submissions), Poland Piotrus (submissions), North Carolina Toa Nidhiki05 (submissions), Florida 12george1 (submissions), Cherokee Nation The Bushranger (submissions) and Republic of Macedonia 1111tomica (submissions). We hope to see you all next year.

On the subject of next year, a discussion has been opened here. Come and have your say about the competition, and how you'd like it to run in the future. This brainstorming will go on for some time before more focused discussions/polls are opened. Good luck! Or if you know of any other editors who specialize in images that might be able to give me some pointers. Also, on Op Big Bear, you can change Doby to "GA" and FYR, I've worked quite a bit on the Bob Lemon article this past week. I am close to GAN. (A few more images there would be nice, too.) Highlights and awards vs. Honors and awards

Hello there. I saw this recent edit of yours and am now a bit confused as to what can be put into the info box, prose, and "Highlights and awards" subsection specified here and according to consensus reached here. The reason I ask is because other notable feats, such as major league walks leader, is listed in Rickey Henderson, a GA, under its "Awards and honors" subsection, but in your edit "three no-hitters" was removed. Another reason I ask is you can see what I've done with the Bob Lemon#Highlights and awards section and I have a feeling you're going to be the one to do a GAR for it once I go for GAN, and would like to know before hand just what is considered precedent, allowed, desired, etc. Zepppep (talk) 04:56, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

Jon Huntsman, Jr. GA Review

Hi Wizardman, Amadscientist has explained to me, that s/he is unavailable to review Jon Huntsman, Jr. for GA status. I was going to update the nominations page but it is updated by a bot. You protected the page, so I just wanted to know if any harm would be done if I removed the "in review" icon, or even if you would conduct the review? I have been working ard on the article, and I would just like it to get done as soon as possible. Thanks. DYK stub?

Thank you for seeing that a DYK article rarely is stub class ;) - But if you look at the history of Joanne Lunn, you see that project opera has higher standards. I will leave it as is for "her" (especially since I agree) but for the next round it may be worth looking what others thought before ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:37, 7 September 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 10

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Allie Clark, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Grand slam (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi! Can I nominate Enrique Alvarez Felix?--Miha (talk) 16:42, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Can you tell me what improvements can be made? We have date of his birth and of his death, and places of his birth and death. Information about his family is given, and also his roles are described. Sources that I used are reliable (mostly book, and some magazines).--Miha (talk) 17:00, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

I was wrong, Wizardman. There is no any need to nominate Enrique. I am sorry.--Miha (talk) 11:42, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

DYK

Here you go - Template:Did you know nominations/Allie Clark. In the future, all you have to do is go to T:TDYK, scroll down to "How to post a new nomination", type in the article title and click "Create nomination", at which point it takes you to a blank template to fill out. Then you post it on the page, as instructed, and wait for a review. – Muboshgu (talk) 18:07, 10 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello,

i noticed you edited a Mixed Martial Arts page in August, but you haven't listed yourself as a Participant on the Wikiproject for Mixed Martial Arts pages. I've decided to try to drum up interest to get more people involved!

Problem on pl

Hello

I want to ask you because you are experienced user in Good Topic area. On pl.wiki there is try to put "Good topic" to group Nauru at the Olympics. As you can see article about Nauru at the Olympics/pl:Nauru na letnich igrzyskach olimpijskich and all articles about "Nauru at XXXX year" are Good Articles. But somebody also take part of pl:Nauru_na_letnich_igrzyskach_olimpijskich#Chronologiczna_lista_chor.C4.85.C5.BCych and move it to List of flag bearers for Nauru at the Olympics/pl:Lista chorążych reprezentacji Nauru na igrzyskach olimpijskich.

In your opinion in this situation on en.wiki You will accept this topic (evein if this "flag bearers" article is not GA - and remove this from topic totally), Accept this topic with "flag bearers" (when it will be in some good state (but its to small to be Featured List - so it will be only well written) or .. delete that flag bearers list?

It`s first situation like this on pl.wiki so I don`t know how to handle such situations.
