I am a very firm believer in WP:Honesty and that neutral point of view applies to you, even in disputes. If you don't believe these three things, then I'm sorry but we won't be able to deal together. That you have a strong belief that I might be a dick, is not evidence that I actually am. I don't happen to be one of those warm-and-fuzzy types. I'm more the Spock type with a bit of McCoy. There is the possibility, however bizarre it might at first appear, that although I don't happen to agree with you, I am in actuality a sensible person just as you feel you are. If you are under the impression that I'm violating policy in some way, you should be prepared to quote the exact wording of that part of that policy. I feel that I am quite aware of what our policies do and don't state, having myself spent many hours working on those same policies you're now throwing at me. If you don't feel that you have the sufficient dialectic tools to discuss things with me sensibly as adults, you might want to consider first having a good stiff drink. If you feel the pressing need to talk down to me, instruct me in etiquette, or impugn my intelligence or motivations, during your discussion, you are quite unlikely to be successful in your goal of correcting the Evil I'm allegedly unleashing upon the world.

I am a professional biographer, specializing in biographies of obscure persons of local historical note, as such I claim qualification as an Expert Editor on matters of Local History and Biography. Let me quote the No original research page: '"No original research" does not prohibit experts on a specific topic from adding their knowledge to Wikipedia. On the contrary, Wikipedia welcomes the contributions of experts, as long as their knowledge is verifiable. We assume, however, that someone is an expert not only because of their personal and direct knowledge of a topic, but also because of their knowledge of published sources on a topic. This policy prohibits expert editors from drawing on their personal and direct knowledge if such knowledge is unverifiable. Vandalism

A user can blank their own talk page, see: Vandalism? from which I quote: " It is generally recognized that the user of a talk page has the right to blank it. (Deliberate repeated deletion of requests, such as of requests to be civil, is not vandalism. It is only WP:DICK.) "

And furthermore this: User Talk is Not Article Talk from which I quote: "Many users, including admins and at least two arbitrators, routinely remove comments from their Talk pages, and advertise this." At this point he quotes User talk:Neutrality which states "I archive when I feel like it. Depending on my whim, your comments may or may not be archived. The odds of not being archived are inversely proportional to the amount you annoy me. Please do not annoy me."

Per these statements, I am removing any "outside comment" from my talk page that I don't like as wiki policy (see Wiki:Vandalism) states quite clearly that a user "may remove any outside comment from their own talk pages at their OWN discretion" (added emphasis). Hawthorne

I removed the fact tag you added for Nathaniel Hawthorne. It is fairly well-known that Hawthorne himself changed the spelling of his last name. A source is already provided in the article; the lede does not need to have its own source. "Fairly well-known" is not how Wikipedia works. We work by the use of actual sources which readers can verify. The source provided does not state what the article is claiming that it states. Please quote the exact words the source uses. "Well-known fact" is not a sufficient source. His signature is not a source for whether he changed it as opposed to anyone else, and it's not a source for why he might have changed it. Speculation or claims of why he or anyone else changed it are original research and an exact quote from a source needs to be used to back up a claim of that sort. I do not see my actions as inflammatory. We were having a discussion a month ago. You are the one who left in the middle of it; for you to ignore that and restore the links with a note that says "do not revert without discussion" seems extraordinary, to say the least. There was no "conversation". There was an event, which was over. Whether two or ten editors can't grasp what a mirror or fork actually is, isn't my concern, until they interfere with scholarly research like this. If you disagreed with the opposition you received from User:Rodw and me at Talk:Anthony Paulet, where both of us objected to the use of the link, you should have sought dispute resolution rather than returning the link to the article in the manner you did. If two editors are objecting to an action you want to take, the proper approach is to get additional feedback in the appropriate venue and manner. There was no conversation. It was an event which was over. I did not leave a conversation with a questin posed at me. There was no disagreement from two editors. There were not two editors objecting to a link. It was entirely appropriate to open a new conversation on the issue you raised, as you failed to comprehend the meaning of the language. Do not quote policy at me, that I helped write. I did clearly indicate to you that I had solicited additional feedback and I gave you, in fact, a link directly to it. Your approach in this situation has been fraught with conflict escalation and aggression. That question was apparently rhetorical since I had already stated that the bio was copied. You didn't look at the actual page, otherwise you would have seen that the bio is only one small part of that page. A page which contains several buttons and functions you did not use, which are all germane to this conversation. You seem not aware of what genealogics is, or can do, if you think the entire page, is made up of this small portion. The bio was copied. Then I suggest you didn't actually look at the page on Genealogics at all. Otherwise you should have seen plainly that the page is not a copy of anything. One part of the page is a copy. The rest of the page is not a copy. The only possible thing I could gather from the question, was that you hadn't looked. And now as pointed out, you want to remove one of the very sources that were used to create this page in the first place. I enjoyed your user page and the preamble on this page immensely. Curmudgeonliness is undervalued these days. I was reminded of both Walter Matthau, and of the ruler of a rare books store where I once worked, who chain smoked a pipe. If a customer entered smoking he would roar 'PUT THAT OUT' (puff puff) -I can smoke but you can't" .

Given your prediliction for genealogy research I wanted to set you a task- finding the maiden surname and present surname of Jimmy Wales' first wife Pam. He maintains her surname is irrelevant and will not divulge it [[2]].

I believe it would be disrespectful to the woman, and to women in general, to fail to include it where she is mentioned.

We regard MPs here as always notable by WP:POLITICIAN. And even if we did not have that very well-established guideline, saying someone is in that sort of position is certainly and unmistakably a claim of importance. Even a bare claim or indication of importance, such as that he ran for MP but was not elected, would be enough to defeat Speedy A7. I know I didn't cite a source Will. But there isn't a single citation for any fact in the surrounding sections! Why single out mine? It actually is a fact but it is really covered by the OR rule. You can check page 119 of Dodnash Priory Charters which recounts a charter of 4 April 1336 concerning Thomas Brotherton which mentions his late wife Alice and his present wife Mary.

Icelandic letters (regarding your name change)

I see your point. But has there been any discussion on this? This looks wrong (to Icelanders). I was thinking of reverting this but don't want to edit war (in case there are some guidelines on this). In some pages there is an explanation for Þ or Ð. See my addition of the Icelandic name template hatnote. Maybe that should explain the letters (after clicking on it). Sufficient? Thank you for seeing my point, which is that in the English language version, we should use English language letters and spelling. Help on Eritrea page

Hi, I've noticed that you are an experienced user that believe in good faith towards other users, but also in a neutral point of view based on your talk page. I have seen that you was active in the Eritrea page a while back. At the moment I'm in a discussion with a user that do not want to remove two pictures displaying two ethnic groups (in traditional costumes) of Eritrea in the demographics & language section. The reason why I'm not agreeing to have these pictures on there is that Eritrea has nine official ethnic groups. I have suggested to add picture's of all of the groups or simply remove the two existing since it is not fair to have only two groups on there. A third option that I have suggested is to add a picture of famous Eritreans in the US diaspora [3]since they are not representing any ethnic group. Ive read your h2s page and learned much about that gas. We are using gas detector during our maintenance activity in an STP site. Why is it that the gas detector beeps or alarms whenever the h2s level reaches 5ppm and above? I told my men that its still okay to work because the h2s level is still below 10ppm. Am i right?

2019 US Banknote Contest

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons. In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Dear Wjhonson. Thank you so very much for your intervention on the article Theobald Dillon, 7th Viscount Dillon. I see now and understand that my guess for a birth year is as you say "illogical". Also the list of brothers, which you deleted, was utterly wrong. Arthur Dillon, Count Dillon was not his brother but his son. My fault. I somehow got confused. I deeply apologise.

Luckily there are experienced Wikipedians like you who see such errors. I hope to still profit more from your expertise in biographies. I have contributed to Irish biographies in Wikipedia, but am no expert at all in these matters, new in Ireland and still unfamiliar with its history. I still consider myself a novice in Wikipedia and my English is 2nd-language.

I dared to add new lists of real brothers and sisters, which I hid in table frames. I am not sure whether your deletion was because of the brother-son confusion or because you think lists of siblings have no place in biographies. I have been criticised before for adding lists of siblings, which some users found not encyclopedic (unluckily I cannot remember now who these users were and on which article). It is true that DNB does not give such lists. However, the DNB is paper-based. I thought that such lists might be acceptable on the web when hidden (collapsed). I think I should probably hide them on all the articles where I added such lists.

Other features that I like to add and that are often criticised are the family trees and the timeline tables. The family trees are "uncited" as User:Spinningspark remarked in the discussion of article Callaghan MacCarty, 3rd Earl of Clancarty for DYK, even if he said he is "not too bothered about it". The timeline table is a hidden table that I like to insert towards the end of articles. I think you did not see it. This table gives ages for events and therefore needs a birth year and the illogical guess is still used there. Perhaps it must go as well. However would such a table be acceptable if a birth date could be found? User:Miraclepine said "I'm not sure if the timeline is encyclopedic" in the mentioned DYK. User:Kirbanzo added the comment "Table not needed; convert to prose and move information to relevant sections if possible" on top of the timeline table of the article Robert Dillon, 2nd Earl of Roscommon. User:JxF100 deleted the timetable of the article Thomas Butler of Garryricken, calling it "otiose material". Dear expert, I hope I have not bothered you too much. This follows an extensive AfD discussion which concluded that while titles and houses are themselves conform to WP:GNG, individual title holders are not themselves notable, and so should to have an additional article, solely on the basis of their title. The idea is to keep biographical and genealogical detail in the most accessible place but not have the title articles distorted by overly large biographies of famous people. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Sorry, dude -- you cut out any connection between the two paragraphs, so that there's now a big gap, and it's not clear how the paragraphs are even related at all. Whatever the problems with the article, that is simply not the solution. And it's not "novel"[sic] because that material has been on the article for years!
