Revision as of 03:56, 18 June 2015

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Racial transformation (individual)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – There has been some disruptive editing after the article has been sent at AFD. Please protect it until the dispute is settled. TL22 (talk) 21:20, 16 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ok enough is enough. IP users are continuously disrupting the article and its high time to indeff it. —Indian:BIO [ ChitChat ] 04:18, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The X Factor (U.S. TV series)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – User 208.87.237.201 keeps inserting a middle name without citation. warrior4321✆ talk✉ mail 18:02, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Declined It's one IP who should have been told that their addition needed a source. NeilN talk to me 19:41, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Cabbit

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism from an IP user since 2005 ([1] appears to be the first instance), which multiple lengthy semi-protections have failed to stop. The article was most recently semi-protected for 2 years after two separate 1 year semi-protections, and the vandal has returned shortly after each protection ended. Given that this vandal has been at this for almost a decade and consistently returns even after the article is protected for a year or two, I think the article should be indefinitely semi-protected. Calathan (talk) 18:04, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of infinity, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Calathan, I also indef-semiprotected the talk page, since I wasn't sure what you were requesting at WP:AN. If you didn't want this, let me know and I can reduce it. Nyttend (talk) 21:22, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Albania–Yugoslav border incident

Semi-protection: IP users have been adding POV information for the last two months which isn't in the reference (just take a look at the revision history). I thought I could handle it but I'm tired of having to revert them. I think Semi-protection is sufficient as it is an issue caused by IP users not registered Wiki users. I think it is worth pointing out that the IPs are based in Serbia which was formerly Yugoslavia, therefore there is nationalist interests for POV pushing. It is also likely that these IPs are socks of blocked users. It is also worth noting that the article was previously semi-protected by HJ Mitchell in November last year due to persistent editing from IP users in Serbia. Temporary semi-protection: As inevitably happens when a gossip magazine makes an unconfirmed report based on anonymous, unnamed, shadowy "sources", IP editors rush to add these rumors. Placing a note on the talk page never deters them. This article is suffering from a fresh tabloid report. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:45, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Protection: IPs are continually removing sourced content.

Declined Looks like there's one main disruptive IP (warned). Protecting would mean preventing constructive IP edits like yours. NeilN talk to me 20:17, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Sigmund Freud's views on homosexuality

Semi-protection: After reading some articles concerning homosexuality, I must stress that this article is of utmost importance considering the amount of research Freud has done on the subject. This topic is often censored by many, particularly by the "liberals" or the left, from the United States. Freud is a European social scientist. I put warning labels on the article to attract contributors to help make this article stand out with verifiable sources. Currently, it has no such thing and I question how this article is even still up without adequate sources for so long. I am not a expert in psychology. This is a controversial subject and politically heated subject. I believe Freud's research and his view is important to know considering there are very few, today, that actually have studied it extensively as him. Lots of people, including gays, tend to research Freud to some capacity for knowledge that is all too rare today. JLanex (talk) 20:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. JLanex, there's no indication any protection is needed. NeilN talk to me 20:46, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Dominique Strauss-Kahn

Unprotection: The original protecting editor is User:Seicer and is semi-retired. I wish to make an edit to the effect that Strauss-Kahn believes he was the victim of a honey-trap plot. The edit is significant in the context of the likelihood of Greece's exit from the Euro. An editor at the page say this is a conspiracy theory with no weight. My edit request was treated incivilly. 109.153.80.183 (talk) 16:55, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    • Automated comment: @109.153.80.183: This request cannot be parsed. Please ensure it follows formatting consistent with the current or previous methods of submission.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 17:11, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Declined, you behavior at the talk page is exemplified incivility.--Ymblanter (talk) 17:58, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'm very sorry to hear that you are of that opinion regarding my civility. The fact remains that the "conspiracy theory", which I believe a majority of French people still subscribe to, should be mentioned in his BLP. 109.153.80.183 (talk) 18:27, 17 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

    Tim Berners-Lee

Unprotection: Hopefully the vandalism will stop - if it resumes, it can be re-protected. Glory of Space (talk) 03:34, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Glory of Space, did you ask the protecting admin Favonian about this? NeilN talk to me 03:41, 18 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
