Revision as of 04:41, 9 June 2016

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary protection: Persistent vandalism. Serols (talk) 18:00, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Lectonar (talk) 18:07, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. OptimusView (talk) 18:13, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. And far from high-level. Lectonar (talk) 19:44, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP hopping. Adding unsourced, likely false future programming info. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 20:29, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Nakon 02:52, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Ongoing attempts by IPs to delete sourced material, no response to requests to enter into discussion. Twice today, been going on for weeks. Nat Gertler (talk) 20:45, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Just one IP. Lectonar (talk) 20:46, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, not just one IP. At least five different IPs over the past three weeks. --Nat Gertler (talk) 22:45, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nakon 02:53, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism, blanking template. Garchy (talk) 21:11, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nakon 02:53, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Vandalism from multiple IPs most likely coming from fans of the Texas Rangers with whom the Astros are currently playing a series with. Screenshots of such vandalism are being posted on Reddit for amusement purposes. This series will continue for at least today and tomorrow, and I expect to see more vandalism occur if not protected. Brian Reading (talk) 21:55, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Nakon 02:53, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Well, the IP is back at it a day after the protection expires. Again. –Compassionate727 (T·C) 22:11, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Checking to see if protection is necessary. Nakon 03:01, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
    User(s) blocked. Rangeblocked for a week. Nakon 03:12, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – The IP user who disruptively kept editing (after multiple warnings) Kirby: Planet Robobot until it was protected has appeared on The Legend of Zelda (2017 video game) and has edited the page in the exact same way he did on Kirby. He will likely continue to do so in violation of WP:TMRULES. (It's Wikipedia's Geolocate feature that gave them away. All the IP addresses that recently edited Kirby came from the same location as the IP address that edited this one.). Gestrid (talk) 22:12, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Please consider requesting an edit filter to prevent these specific types of edits. Thanks, Nakon 03:19, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Idefinite semi-protection: Long term issues with disruptive edits, and the article has previously been semi-protected for six months. Snuggums (talk / edits) 22:51, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Pending changes seems to be working fine; only three IP edits in the last week. Katietalk 03:05, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive edits by anon IP. Vjmlhds 22:51, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

DeclinedWarn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. Nakon 03:19, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: BLP policy violations. TwoTwoHello (talk) 23:36, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Nakon 03:20, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. General Ization Talk 23:37, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Nakon 03:23, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism on the page. Elisfkc (talk) 23:39, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of four days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. kelapstick(bainuu) 02:44, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – This page has had past periods of both semi-protection and pending changes. Neither have deterred the socking. The vandalism consists of repeatedly adding false information related to charts/certifications. See Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Никита-Родин-2002 for more details. ~ RobTalk 00:27, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Nakon 03:24, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP hopper adding a WP:OFFTOPIC hatnote to the article (not even properly formatted). This appears to have turned into a disruptive game with me. Iryna Harpy (talk) 03:19, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Nakon 03:24, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Austin Zehnder

Page should be replaced with a redirect to Sexual assault of Savannah Dietrich. The convicted perpetrator's name is a plausible search term and this treatment accords with WP:BLP1E and WP:CRIME. The protecting admin User:Beeblebrox is taking a break from Wikipedia. -Carwil (talk) 18:46, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

    Empty nose syndrome

Doc James wrongly punishes new editors to the article by falsely, without proof associating them with an alleged off-wiki call to edit. I have no affiliation with that post or website. Recent editors to the article, jytdog and Dubbin, in particular have marginalized new editors. This is evident in the Talk section. Please remove all protection. Greybridge (talk) 01:58, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not done It looks like proof was included in the edit summary, your account will be autoconfirmed in two days, at which time the semiprotection will not apply to your account. kelapstick(bainuu) 02:37, 9 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Handled requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
