==Current requests for edits to a protected page==

Revision as of 21:52, 27 May 2009

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Catholic sex abuse cases (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection, This high visibility article generates a lot of disputes among registered editors alone. Unregistered ones simply add a level of complexity, opinion, and unreferenced or poorly referenced material, that is not useful. It would not solve all the problems by a long shot, but it would help move the quality to a somewhat higher plane if we didn't have to spend several days each week contending with an undereducated editor with a lot of pov opinions. Thanks. Student7 (talk) 20:58, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined high visibility pages being editable by anyone is one of the core principles on which this project is based. I don't see enough malicious vandalism (or problematic additions like BLP violating edits) to justify semi protecting the article, and certainly not indefinitely. We don't use protection as a means for restricting content or preventing non drive-by IPs such as this one from contributing. You should take up content issues via talk. List of National Football League records (individual) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Indefinite semi-protection, IP's vandalise quite a bit, alot of these records are set in stone, no need to be edited really at least until september when the NFL season starts. RF23 (talk) 19:59, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Also, pages aren't protected preemptively. Icestorm815Talk 20:29, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Jacques Cartier (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protection, for an indefinite period. In the last 7 days, 14 vandalism edits have been made, plus one possible. The location of the IP addresses, and other vandalism edits on other articles about explorers in the Americas made by them, suggests to me that the vandals are school children researching for assigments, a problem that is not going to go away. Bosnian Australian (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism/population inflation without sources, and also insists on adding original research into the article. I'm pretty sure most of the IPs that make these edits are the same person with a dynamic IP, since they all add the same thing without sources. I try to revert most of the dubious unsourced content, but it's a hassle to do everyday. Plus, I've spoken to the user about using reliable sources, and to stop putting original research into the article, but I've been ignored, and he continues to artificially inflate population figures, change statistics/percentages, changes dates etc. Also, the history of the article is cluttered with hundreds of very tiny edits by the IP, and I've spoken to him about using the "preview" button, but this has also been ignored.

Quite frankly, I don't believe this user will ever change his behaviour, at least not in the immediate future, and I believe a semi-protection is in order to stop the user from making unsourced changes/additions, and will possibly make him more open to discussion, or actually finding sources for his claims. 121.222.254.84 (talk) 10:39, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Matthew Sanders (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I wanted to create this page and redirect it to the M. Shadows article since Matthew Sanders is his birth name. This page was deleted three times due to blatant vandalism two years ago. I don't know if this request is necessary, but if any administrator thinks it's not, I apologize in advance. Nonetheless, I hope that this application is approved. Thanks! :) Signed, kotakkasut 06:46, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Is this a content dispute...? Semiprot is never allowed to be used to gain content leverage over good faith IPs. rootology/equality 03:12, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's a response to a request for assistance here [1]. The request for assistance does not indicate this is a good faith IP but rather a single user or a group of users with access to a range of IPs who are misusing edit summaries and multiple addresses.    7   talk Δ |   03:22, 27 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
