Revision as of 02:30, 25 February 2015

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: Increased level of IP vandalism. RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 02:09, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Request temporary semi-protection due to repeated insertion of unsourced info about WP:BLPs by drive-by-IP-edits. Thank you!. — Cirt (talk) 01:58, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: BLP policy violations – IP editor seems intent on mentioning claims by Zacharias about his descent simply because it finds them "bizarre", which seems like a BLP violation. Article needs to be protected. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 01:53, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: nonstop vandalism and misediting despite warnings, re MOS in light of actor's Oscar win, by IP and redlinked one edit username editors (see [1]). Quis separabit? 01:31, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Edit Warring. Bobherry Userspace Talk to me! Stuff I have done 19:01, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, pending changes are doing just fine--Ymblanter (talk) 20:55, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: Recent high level of IP vandalism, not listening to other editors. — Cheers, Steelpillow (Talk) 18:52, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Dragons flight. MusikAnimal talk 21:19, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection indefinitely and if possible Full protection: Persistent vandalism. Additionally, redirect page should be kept as is. <<< SOME GADGET GEEK >>> (talk) 18:22, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Both the redirect and target page are already semi-protected. MusikAnimal talk 21:19, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This is one of those articles that attracts very sporadic vandalism, but very few good IP edits. It's very prone to speculative edits from IPs. Granted, there's been only a couple in the last couple of days... but the last time there was a constructive IP edit was probably a few months ago. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 18:09, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. MusikAnimal talk 21:15, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: A set of IP addresses continues to delete comments from the talk page. There is no problem with the article. I am not sure what this person /people want. Here is more documentation:

I think that semi-protection of the page might solve the problem or encourage conversation. Temporary protection would be best as I hope this will not be persistent. This is a fairly low-traffic page. Blue Rasberry (talk) 17:21, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sam Walton (talk) 19:02, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: BLP policy violations – This article has been locked down since early September based on an interpretation of BLP which is under legitimate dispute. The history of the article shows the purported violations cropping up perhaps 3-4 times a year, and under the circumstances indefinite full protection seems like massive overkill. And while there are potential BLP issues here, the admin applying protection was and is quite obviously very involved at the article. I wouldn't object to using PC either, I have no opinion on whether it's a good or bad tool. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 21:48, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

User:The Blade of the Northern Lights can you please clarify what you want. This is posted in the reduction for protection but it looks as if you want the talk page semi-protected, that's what is in the header you gave. Or do you want the fully protected article reduced to semi? CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 21:58, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that, I almost never request page protection. Yes, I want the article reduced to semiprotection, I'll fix the header. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 22:05, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

A rolling archive of the last seven days of protection requests can be found at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection/Rolling archive.
