Quba

We made changes to the Guba mass grave article but i noticed on the Quba article it has a paragraph regarding the mass grave and it is pretty ridiculous:

In May 1918, an event similar to the March Days occurred in the Guba, where Dashnak detachment, under the command of Hamazasp Srvantsyan, arrived from Baku following Armenian Bolshevist communist politician Stepan Shahumyan's order. According to the investigative commission formed by the Government of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Hamazasp's unit burned and destroyed the city of Quba and killed at least 122 people.[4] In 2007, during the construction of a stadium, builders discovered a mass grave. Azerbaijani studies claim that the human remains found there were local residents of various nationalities, including Jews and Lezgins, who had been massacred in 1918.[5] To date, 600 human remains have been found, including about 50 children and 100 women.[6]

I think we should make changes to the article to make it similar to the Guba mass grave article. All of the sources are azeri: day.az, apa.az, zerkalo.az, etc. What do you think? Also, the wording of the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex article is worrisome at best. It's not inline with basic NPOV Wikipedia policy. The abuse of the word "Genocide" is strinkingly problematic. MjolnirPants Thanks for replacing it. You know, that picture always makes me melancholic. Not only is the picture itself sad, but its been through its own degree of misfortunes on Wikipedia. I nominated that picture to FP (Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates/Refugees_of_Hamidian_massacre) after some good restoration work was done on it. But those who voted made a huge fuss over its quality. Every one had their own excuses, "not altered enough", "too altered", and etc. In my opinion, that nomination brought out the worst in the FP process. It also taught me something very important: you can't make everyone happy. Centpacrr said it best, "This is why I never nominate any images (or anything else) for such WP "merit badges" as it only brings out the nit pickers who, after they insist on unnecessary restoration, ignore the actual image itself in favor of criticizing it for being "too altered" or "not altered enough". Why not just appreciate the original image for what it is and what it depicts?" What he said is very wise and true. When you alter something, people are going to criticize you for not alternating it enough or for alternating it in the first place. And when you don't alter it, another group of people will criticize for scratches, blots, excess lighting, and etc. It's a catch-22. At any rate, the job you have is tough. I commend you for it. It wasn't too long of a response, and it tracks very well with my own feelings and experiences, not here, but elsewhere. When it comes to beauty, everyone has their own ideal, and with that ideal come expectations. With differing expectations come arguments and bickering. I've had people hire me to restore old photos, and nitpick the restoration efforts until they have the original image, and I've have people hire me for the same thing, only to insist upon more and more effort until what they have doesn't even look like a photograph anymore. I try to pretty much ignore everyone's opinion but my own, unless there's something factual about their commentary (like Adam's comments about the missing textures in the nomination thread). George Ho (talk · contribs) Per MOS:NOVELS: The image presented in the table should be the most significant cover historically for that book; often this is the first edition, but occasionally it is not: There's no doubt in my mind that the latest cover is the most significant since it is much more common and is identified with the current version today. Also, the illustration of the later edition is done by David Kherdian's wife Nonny Hogrogian, a notable illustrator herself. That boosts the significance of the later cover substantially. Well, the earlier edition has the authentic (passport) photo of the author's mother. The later edition has a painting of her. The title is currently "The Story of an Armenian Girl", not "A True Story of Courage, Survival, and Hope". To do so, both image and later edition must be consistently used. People who deny the Armenian genocide are considered unreliable in Wikipedia because the consensus by the Wikipedia community is that the Armenian Genocide is a fact. Going against such a consensus by using denialist sources aren't going to fly. Also, "Armenian terrorism" doesn't sound like a scientific publication. It's best to replace with another reference. Yeah, he'll try to sock again. Considering the fact that he was quite successful in adding several chunks of information for several months without getting caught. That will give him the necessary motivation for him to do it again. But to your point, I never remember the name changing being an issue with NovaSkola. I do remember that he got hit with a WP:BOOMERANG when he sent Ninetoyadome, Yerevanci, and myself to AE (see here:Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Enforcement/Archive135#Proudbolsahye.2FNinetoyadome.2FYerevanci). Then, he violated his topic ban and got blocked indefinitely. Unfortunately, for users like this, it's much harder to block someone for sockpuppeting than it is to have them topic banned. Topkhana forest

Do you know anything about Topkhana_forest_(Nagorno-Karabakh)? Someone brought to my attention how it is such a poorly written, unsourced article. I would make changes to the article but i do not know much about the forest. Ninetoyadome (talk) 05:15, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

That article is filled with POV filth (i.e. "Armenian invaders", "ruthlessly destroyed", and etc.) I can't really be sure whether this forest is notable enough. I nominated the article for deletion as the only source is not a reliable website, the site has no sources and the article is copied word for word from the website. Other sources i found online just talked about construction done on the territory by Armenia. About how Karabakh authorities authorized construction in the forest of recreation facilities for an aluminum enterprise. Also it stated: "It is interesting to note that one of the arguments used by azeris in challenging the construction in Topkhana was that the park was "a national shrine," by virtue of the fact that a battle against Iranian forces had taken place there in the 18th century.[1] I don't know if i did the deletion nomination correctly. The AfD process does not seem to have been done correctly - leads to a dead link. The article's current content is propaganda, and the source is propaganda. other sources suggest there does appear to have been a "Dashalti State Natural Reserve" created (or proposed to be created?) by Azerbaijan in 1988 - it might contain this forest (if the forest actually exists). And that also in 1988 the Kanaker aluminum factory is alleged to have been chopping down trees in a "Tophane forest" near Shusha. But none of this seems notable enough to justify an article even if it did have neutral sources. Tiptoethrutheminefield (talk) 15:27, 22 November 2014 (UTC)

By all means work through the issues as they'll make the article better, but the sourcing and recentism issues are such that I expect substantial amounts of the article to be changed to the extent I'd have to do a whole new review. Animal name changes in Turkey

The revision of the article consisted of the addition of the full statement by the ministry of subject; based on the full statement declared by the ministry in the original language (here: Turkish). I have revised the translation to better reflect the statement. In addition, the called revision also included the statement made by the executive secretary of the scientific organisation (International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature) that is overseeing the nomenclature of subspecies (Mr. Polaszek). Barring the objection to using the word "attempt" in reference to the changing the names, which has been corrected since. I'm failing to see why my revisions have been undo-ed consistently without much explanation, since the revised content was about the facts, not an re-aligned version of it. It would be better if you can state your explanations regarding the undo of revision 640114330; as to where the translation was at fault. In which part of the revised article had the claimed translation error occurred.

Because it is much more preferable to have a professional translation of the quote from a reliable source, rather than your personal translation. Étienne Dolet (talk) 22:12, 30 December 2014 (UTC)

There's a lot of problems in that article and I wish it could be built up from scratch. Valuable testimonies of massacres and forced drownings were said throughout the trials but it has been left out of the article. In fact, I added information about the court condemning Talat, Enver, and the rest to death only a year ago [8]. Considering that the verdict, one was one of the most important aspects of the trial, was missing, it only goes to show how incomplete that article is. Étienne Dolet (talk) 01:18, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Well, I have edited it heavily because I couldn't even understand what was written - it was obvious the editor didn't have the proper knowledge of Standard English. The sentences were clunky and uncohesive, if you look at the edit history you can see that now it's not similar at all to the version you witnessed; it is mostly written from scratch. The reason is because I figured that the sources are still valuable, because if Simsir's documents are indeed what they claim to be, the article be getting new additions that you have mentioned and the Simsir content in it revised. Compare the latest version with the version before (used cur. comparison with the last version of Gilo1969 (talk | contribs) at 00:41, 27 December 2014) [9]. I am willing to do the work myself, and verify the sources properly, but I cannot verify the book by Simsir. The book seems unreachable, thus the need for verifying the "Foreign office documents" and this book in question (I kindly guessed the editor meant from the late Ottoman/early period of Turkey; I recently found out this Simsir was a Turkish Diplomat) and getting new sources further down the line.

There are two other related pages: Malta exiles and Effort to prosecute Ottoman war criminals; my sincere opinion is that the Malta exiles article should be merged with another article. For now I will focus on the article about the Turkish trials, as there is too much information to properly verify on those, and I can't exactly access Turkish sources or understand what they say. --92slim (talk) 13:28, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

Someone suggested to replace Armenian lavash with Armenian flat bread in lead sentence of lavash article. The sources attached to it use Armenian flat bread, too. Though, I know it is ofthen called Armenian lavash, we should probably use the terminology in sources. Could you reply to that? Hayordi (talk) 19:07, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Re: Question about special holding

When a person is assembling a DYK set, they should calculate what time the set should run and check the special occasion holding area to see if any hooks are waiting for that date. In theory, you should not need to do anything other than wait till the requested day to see your hook on the Main page. In practice, set builders are not perfect and it is a good idea to keep an eye on the prep areas when your requested date approaches and drop a note at Wikipedia talk:Did you know‎ if all the sets for your requested date are completed without your hook being promoted to an appropriate prep area. --Allen3 ^talk 20:52, 25 March 2015 (UTC)

Merger

I think the merger of the Malta exiles article is a good idea, and the merger should be partial and carefully done as to not remove any information on the process. The only problem is that the list of supposed exiles is incomplete, with missing ID's. I assume some of them weren't ever exiled to Malta or even named as exiles, and are just probably just names mentioned in the courts-martial of 1919; of this I am not sure. --92slim (talk) 08:05, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

It is very possible that the roundup ID's mentioned in the article do not even correspond to the officials who were exiled to the Crown Colony of Malta. --92slim (talk) 08:16, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

@92slim: I think what you point out about the ID tags has to do with more of the information that goes into the article rather than the merger. All other issues can be fix after the merger. I didn't take the time to properly edit it. The reason is that before, the Malta exiles article was such a mess, as it included much irrelevant information; the article itself is irrelevant I agree - the main Efforts article is the one that makes the point, and as such the information contained in the Malta exiles article should be merged with the Effort article and not viceversa. I pasted the relevant information from the courts-martial article (such as the story as to how they were held in the prisons) to edit it further. It would probably be best to edit the "Malta exiles" article first before moving it, to make the process easier - regardless, do as you see fit. --92slim (talk) 21:08, 7 April 2015 (UTC)
