Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by RegentsPark (talk | contribs) at 13:43, 20 April 2009 ({{lt|Wikipedia-Books}}: declined). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protect. Over the last 3 days (at least), lots of IP vandalism. Hires an editor (talk) 13:32, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 13:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. High-risk templates for Wikipedia:Books permanently used on highly visible pages. Tothwolf (talk) 13:16, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. --RegentsPark (My narrowboat) 13:40, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Full-protect for 3 days. Ongoing edit warring between two users (both exceeding 3RR limit). Discussions for a few days seems to be a reasonable solution.Caspian blue 12:32, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  12:40, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism started again as soon as last protection expired.--Legolas (talk2me) 12:29, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  12:37, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Far too many unconstructive IP edits; see article history. As the article is seen as a potential GA, a temporary semi-protection would suffice. -- A talk/contribs 12:24, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection dispute, For the past several days there has been edit waring in the article over what constitutes Europe. As a non-involved editor with Europe on my watch page I noticed this and after review it appears to be the work of a group of editors with Npovshark and Mathsci being the two main editors (Npovshark the sole editor on one side.) As this is one of the most frequented articles on the encyclopedia I think it may be best to protect it in order for stability while a consensus is reached. TonyBallioni (talk) 10:27, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined, has been referred to a WP:ANI thread. There is no need to protect the article if the main edit-warriors can be identified and thus be blocked via ANI or ANEW if they continue. SoWhy 10:39, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism. Enigmamsg 09:59, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  10:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection - excessive vandalism for past few days. Pmlinediter  Talk 09:40, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, 1 month semi recently expired. Enigmamsg 09:09, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. That should take us to teh summer holidays when the schools will stop studying it, and kids will stop being annoyed by it and vandalising here. --GedUK  10:02, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    Good thinking and sound logic. :) Enigmamsg 10:10, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

full protection high-visiblity template, Wikipedia:Sandbox/doc should be fully protected as it's a documentation for Wikipedia:Sandbox and has no need for editing by IPs testing the sandbox. -ALLST☆R echo 06:55, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected indefinitely. Nja247 07:58, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

temporary semi-protection the fact that it is April 20 (4/20), has already led to at least 3 IP vandal edits with the high probability of many more to come today. -- The Red Pen of Doom 05:15, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  07:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Repeat vandalism by various IPs. As a 'best players' list it is always going to be a target for people adding their own names and those of the players they think are the best. Stu.W UK (talk) 04:22, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--GedUK  07:44, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected. by Protonk --GedUK  10:25, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection - High visibility article, protection period of less than 24 hours would be preferable. Gage (talk) 23:48, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. But it would be really raelly helpful if you used edit summaries. --GedUK  10:48, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

A proposed draft is available on the talk page Wishstik (talk) 06:25, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected Proposed draft still does not make any claims of importance or significance and might thus be re-deleted for the same reasons as the previous ones. You should fix this first, including some reliable sources. I found such (although weak) sources at TUAW, Ars Technica and Wired. Once you have made some credible claims of importance or significance so it fails A7, contact me and I will move it for you. Regards SoWhy 10:47, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please insert two names: Angelique Carrington, Tamara Harrington. --58.178.154.112 (talk) 02:21, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Lots of Vandalism on this page. . Michael (Talk) 04:51, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Tiptoety talk 04:52, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    semi-protection vandalism, Banned User:ColourWolf targeting this article. Momusufan (talk) 04:08, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Icestorm815Talk 04:18, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism. NuclearWarfare (Talk) 03:28, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

User(s) blocked. (It looks like a single IP was doing most of the damage, I'm thinking the recent block of him should probably solve the problem for the time being.) AlexiusHoratius 03:42, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection, Article has been bombarded by IP anon POV-pushers, I think it would be wise to have this article protected at least for the duration of the current playoff series (1 week) between Boston and Montreal. Regards. —Krm500 (Communicate!) 03:21, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. AlexiusHoratius 03:25, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

semi-protection IP addresses keep adding obvious BLP violations. As president of a major party, semi-protection until after the 2009 Indian General Elections will probably be needed to stop it. Priyanath talk 02:55, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. AlexiusHoratius 03:28, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, Mr. Hannity's article is prone to vandalism, and it is often discovered several days after the act has been committed. If semi-protection is applied, non-registered users will not have the opportunity to vandalize the page, as some people go to the extent of using different computers to vandalize any Wikipedia article in general. JRH95 (talk) 02:32, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for a period of one year. Tiptoety talk 03:19, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, IP-hopping vandal. --aktsu (t / c) 00:20, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And of course, it immedialty died down the moment I posted here... It's been going on the entire month though so I somewhat doubt we've seen the end of it. --aktsu (t / c) 00:59, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. –Juliancolton | Talk 02:17, 20 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection, Move unprotection only; no reason to be full move protected. Sceptre (talk) 09:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done Lowered move protection to the existing semi-protection level for editing. SoWhy 11:01, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

indefinite semi-protection: Article has recently been semi-protected for a week but the vandalism has continued since the protection expired. Quite a lot of it goes on daily (mainly from IPs), too. Slowpoke (talk) 22:56, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. —Wknight94 (talk) 23:16, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection user with various IP addresses (131.96.0.0/16) has been adding unsourced POV edits to this BLP article, always the same content and usually 2 or 3 times a week for the last 4 months. —Snigbrook 22:17, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Icestorm815Talk 22:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection, Edit war, IP and one day users reverts and disruptive editing. The article is largely stable with good amount of references and established talk page. Any user can propose an alternative reading on the Talk page, but only established editors should be allowed to edit the main text. Wikidās ॐ 20:58, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Since it's not a clear-cut case of warring IPs (established users are also involved), I made it a full protection. -- King of 21:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

indefinite semi-protection: Has been protected on two recent occasions - once for a week, and once for two weeks. When it is not protected, it is vandalized almost daily, at least once each day. It is obvious this page will routinely get vandalized as long as IPs and new users have access to editing it. Shaliya waya (talk) 19:41, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. — Kralizec! (talk) 19:58, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Missed a penalty in a recent match, is attracting a lot of abuse. Stu.W UK (talk) 18:33, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Could see that coming, sadly. --GedUK  18:48, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
