I thought you would like this. It is insane how high it is. The video was made shortly after the article was expanded and used some of the text too.--NortyNort (Holla) 09:00, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I see you have recently created one or more new stub templates or categories. As it states at Wikipedia:Stub, at the top of most stub categories, and in many other places on Wikipedia, it is recommended that new stub types be proposed prior to creation at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals. This helps to reach consensus about whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it is otherwise correctly formatted, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, and whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies. Your new stub type is currently listed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Discoveries, where comments are welcome as to any rationale for this stub type. Please, in future, consider proposing new stub types first at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals! Dawynn (talk) 13:37, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Er, you do realise Dawynn that I am one of the most active participants of the stub sorting proposals project right? I haven't had time of late but if you actually look thorugh the archives...♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:39, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Tiger Wood's other life

I see you have reverted my edit to the subsection of Tiger Wood's personal life. If it is not a trivia section then what exactly is it other than other? A section titled other would seem to be an open dumping ground for anyone with a Tiger ref. So why not be honest and call it trivia. Since the section largely deals with the size of his boat and price of his home, perhaps the section can be retitled, "Some things Woods has spent his fortune on".--Wlmg (talk) 22:57, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to say that the Flag of Bhutan article is a current GA nomination. I got a flag expert to work on it and he nominated it. Also do you think the main Bhutan article is good for GA? Spongie555 (talk) 04:08, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Religion in San Marino

I am enlightened about San Marino. My knowledge of Christianity is limited to the appreciation of the Missionary zeal of the Christians since I have not studied this religion in depth. However, based on an important reference, I added some text. If you find it OK, I will try to find more references to add additional information, if any.-- N.V.V. I know about it since I suggested it and you created it on your sandbox page and informed me on my talk page. However, I have a further suggestion that let us exclude the countries where we have already completed two articles since all our collaborative efforts have been posted on DYK. We can come back to these countries after we have covered all the remaining countries out of the overall list of 185 countries. By the way, what is the source of geography and environment section ( I have not been able to locate the source) in Mount Titano article. I have already added from the UNESCO sources as relevant to the Mount.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 22:35, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Import

For articles like Legislature V of Italy the cleanest way to do it is to get an admin to use Special:Import to import the article, complete with attribution tail into enwiki, usually in a backwater namespace like Mediawiki talk, then move it into article space or userspace for translation. I'd be willing to do some for you (a limited number - I can't keep up with your edit rate). It's best for articles that have some history and content, I wouldn't bother with importing stubs. Acroterion (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good to know that my blood, sweat and tears are deeply appreciated. They do have content, the most important officials of that period. History and text can be added in due course...The reason why we have such gaping holes in the encyclopedia as this is precisely because people "wouldn't bother". Not good enough. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:49, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Don't be testy, I didn't put it well - I wouldn't bother to go through "import" for articles with a couple of revisions, but for articles with a few dozen edits and several paragraphs, it's really quite easy, and credits those nice Italians who labored on the articles. See what Legislature I of Italy's history looks like now. Acroterion (talk) 18:55, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, "transferred from Italian wiki" is usually OK.. Feel free to do the remaining 6 legislatures.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:02, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Will do. I've imported rather a lot from frwiki, since I read French reasonably well, and I've filled in a number of the gaping holes nobody cared about, but which matter to me. I've found some quite substantial articles that have gone begging on enwiki that way. However, I personally have just gone ahead and written from scratch when it's just a stub, since there's nothing that needs attribution in such a case. I think Graham87 and I are the leading importers, Graham leads by a mile. Seriously, if you see something that you think ought to be imported, rather than just attributed, let me know. Acroterion (talk) 19:04, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey I started Wikipedia:WikiProject TRANSWIKI for this purpose!! There is massive amounts of material which should be transwikied from other wikipedias but very few are consistently doing so I'm afraid. We certainly do need some form of bot to do it smoothly but that is unlikely to go without serious disapproval. Thanks for your help.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:10, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'd missed that. Importing's limited to fr, de, es, it, pl, nost and meta, but there's plenty there to do. I doubt that a bot will be possible, but I'll add my name to the list and will do what I can. Acroterion (talk) 19:20, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Glad to have you on board. Wikipedia:WikiProject Intertranswiki is the project, (correction). We did start planning a bot to generate content like this and to increase the coordination between wikipedias but without any sort of system it is just left to vain attempts of individuals myself to occaisonally struggle to transfer things and not managing to do it regularly because its so stressful and demanding to do so manually.... !! If you would be interested in some sort of scheme to import content from other wikis let me know. A bot maybe..♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:23, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For what it's worth, I had a DYK today with an imported and translated article, Fort de Loncin. There's nothing left of the original text after I got done with rewriting and referencing, but it's the sort f thing I've been doing. Acroterion (talk) 19:31, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Super work. Can I entrust you then to transfer legilatures XI-XVI (11-16)?♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:36, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, I'll do that now. It's easier than merging the histories of articles that already exist here. Acroterion (talk) 19:38, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Much easier that way. Just move them to the English title. Acroterion (talk) 19:43, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Nono, what I mean is can you transfer the remaining missing articles, Legislature XI of Italy, Legislature XII of Italy, Legislature XIII of Italy, Legislature XIV of Italy, Legislature XV of Italy, Legislature XVI of Italy.♦ Dr. Blofeld 19:46, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I can't change the name until I get it over here, so I have to import to the Italian name and then move them where they ought to go. Nothing's quite as easy as it ought to be. All done, just needs templates and such. Acroterion (talk) 19:56, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Legislatures

I'll do what I can, but not today, so much, I'm afraid - I've had a few short bouts of editing to take a break from things, but it's a heavy day. And I'm leaving early, and I have rehearsal tonight. So likely not until tomorrow, sorry. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 18:51, 2 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Italian cabinets

I discovered that we already have articles on Berlusconi I Cabinet, Berlusconi II Cabinet, Berlusconi III Cabinet and Berlusconi IV Cabinet after I imported their Italian equivalents. I deleted them, since the existing articles don't depend on them. They can be restored and merged if need be, but I'd rather not perform a complex history merge involving a foreign language, thank you, so any material that's incorporated should just be attributed the traditional way. Also, we already have Prodi I Cabinet,. Prodi II Cabinet and Tambroni Cabinet, so I didn't import those. Working on the others, and will move to Government of Foo X as appropriate. I haven't moved the titles already here. Acroterion (talk) 02:06, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Antarctica articles

Hi. I have noticed that you have been creating articles on features of Antarctica mainly using USGS GNIS for the source. Earlier this year, I began merging many of the small articles, especially on mountains and peaks into the respective range page. It is highly unlikely that most of these small articles will be updated anytime soon with more information and most get tagged with various maintenance templates such as the "no or few articles link to this page". So it makes sense to simply merge the small articles on the mountains of a range into the respective range page. You can see examples of the merges at Quartermain Mountains, Deep Freeze Range and Admiralty Mountains. A redirect is put in place for the merged from articles. See Wikipedia:Notability (geography) especially on "Named geographic features" which I think applies to a lot of the articles based solely on GNIS. While that page is not an official policy, I do think that a lot of the mountains and peaks can simply be redirected to the respective range and that page contain the GNIS info on the mountain/peak. RedWolf (talk) 06:53, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objections to merging, in fact I would strongly support this for many articles. However the text needs to be written into wikipedia first somewhere. Merging can be done later.♦ Dr. Blofeld 21:05, 3 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this section titled "88" it would seem to have no relevancy to the editor's concern. Fair use rationale for File:ElAndadorposter.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:ElAndadorposter.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Russian translations

I actually have his contributions on my to-(re-)do list since March of this year; I just never had a chance to look them over. Thanks for the reminder! I do, however, disagree that such edits are welcome and/or useful—if our readers want a broken machine translation, they can feed the article from ru_wiki to google translate (or any other translation engine of their choice) all on their own. Dumping such translations into our article space is like dumping waste in a bustling downtown in hopes that folks there might find something that's useful! If these machine translations were of a resource that's not easily available online, it would have been a different matter, but since they are just ru_wiki translations, I don't really see the benefit (although the users' intentions are, of course, in good faith). National parks

I did not spot the National Parks template or would have used and extended it. I think Protected Areas works though. It will not get that large. There are still several missing articles, which I may start after cleaning up the stubs. This is a general subject that seems important to me, and has plenty of good sources. For example, a search on Omo forest reserve limited to books with preview and full view gives all sorts of results. It is easy to cobble together a starter article. And then the results are a bit depressing. No villains, just people doing what makes sense in their circumstances, what they have to do, but sad in a way. I will keep plugging away. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 01:34, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm slowly working through Port Harcourt from the top down, I just have to find sources for the paragraphs below the history. I'm also touching on Lagos as well. I'm glad you enjoyed the Enugu article. Ukabia - talk 14:50, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've found somehting, although not too much. I will check further on both villages.Alexikoua (talk) 18:23, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You took off all my tags! I just discovered this great option that gives you a new tab. If you don't like a page you click on the tab, then check all the things you think are wrong with the article. Some of the choices are: article may require additional categories, article may require cleanup, article may be confusing or unclear, article needs copy editing for grammar, style, cohesion, tone, and/or spelling, article needs expansion, article needs attention from an expert on the subject, article lead section is too long and should be shortened or article lead section is too short and should be expanded (do not pick both), tone of article is not appropriate and article needs to be wikified. These all apply to Ohusu Game Reserve. Also they all apply to Palo y hueso. Come to think of it, they all apply to any article you don't like. I love it. Aymatth2 (talk) 19:17, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I was just kidding. I will expand the Ohosu article. I was playing with the new tool, forgot to back out the result. I personally find these notices giving vague criticism very irritating. "Don't complain, do something about it", my view. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:14, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I wish I could help - it would be useful. I also wish Lake Chad was still that big. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:57, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ikoyi looks good, but the photo in Cross River National Park is spectacular! I also much prefer the relief map for these articles. But the pushpin is hard to see. There must be a way to define pushpin shape and color. To be picky, I am sensitive to the fact that 10% of males are color-blind. Ideally, a pushpin would be a symbol in white with a black border, or vice-versa, depending on how dark the background is. I can't see why Béla Bartók would be an unusual choice for the film music. Argentina is a sophisticated place with a very European outlook, not just Spanish but Italian, German, etc. Even Welsh. They say that in the world of fashion, most innovations start in Buenos Aires, move to Europe a year later, and finally make it to North America a year or two after that. Lately Uncle G (talk · contribs) has put in some crazy DYK hooks, sort of like "... that Palo y hueso launched the careers of Nicolás, Esteban and Julio?" You have to click to figure out what on earth it is about, which I suppose is the idea. Aymatth2 (talk) 00:27, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe the pushpin could also be made a bit bigger? I spent some time in Uruguay some years ago and heard this joke: "How do you make an Argentinian? You take some Spanish sperm and mix it with some Italian sperm. And then you add just a little bit of shit. That is how you make an Argentinian." The relationship between Uruguay and Argentina is a bit like that between Canada and the United States. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 14:06, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You are suffering from an extreme lack of focus in your choice of subjects. I think there is a medical term for the condition. Probably incurable. Stewed snails with onions and pepper rings sounds interesting. No more! I keep seeing redlinks that need fixing. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 14:43, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Enugu

Hi Dr. Blofeld, I know you are interested in articles in Africa, and wondered if you might be interested in copyediting Enugu, a city in Nigeria. I peer reviewed it recently and it is already a GA, but I think it needs some work before it would have a chance at FAC. Hope all is well with you, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 13:24, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. I agree it has some places where there seem to be gaps or more infroamtion is needed. I pointed out as many as I could find at Wikipedia:Peer review/Enugu/archive2, you might want to comment there or on the talk page of the main editor. Please let me know if I can help by reviewing it again, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 15:52, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem at all. I was just hoping someone could help with a copyedit eventually - thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 21:55, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:FourSonsshot.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:FourSonsshot.jpg.

Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:29, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Rinia Park

Cbl62 (talk) 18:03, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You already diverted me. I keep getting diverted. Oaxacan municipalites, US megachurches and baptists, Nigerian traditional states and protected areas, French explorers, bandleaders, riots, Argentinian movies full of redlinks. This is ridiculous. :~) I may take a look, but tomorrow. He does sound interesting. Aymatth2 (talk) 22:02, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

O.k. No more redlinks in Palo y hueso. But I have an uneasy feeling that Miguel Ligero, the Argentinian film actor, has become slightly blended with Miguel Ligero, the Spanish film actor. Never mind. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:57, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That is interesting. PD-AR-Photo is just 25 years from creation, 20 from publication. I will check around - probably easy to find photos. To me, photos are great. Maps too. Even an infobox is better than just plain text. I didn't nominate the movie. Maybe should, but not sure it has much general interest. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:05, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There are singers like that, too - like Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson. She was always something of a "singers' singer" - the critics adored her, to a man (I've seriously never heard one of them say a word against her.) I can't say I was overly enamored of her, but then I never heard her live...and that makes all the difference in the world sometimes. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:53, 9 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Antarctic stubs

Can I suggest a few changes to your standard format for the Antarctic articles you're creating?

  • The {{coor}} template has been replaced by {{coord}} (and I suggest display=title, inline is appropriate).
  • The {{convert}} template is worth using for units.
  • I think it's worth stating explicitly that the sites are in Antarctica (for those not familiar with the more detailed regions of Antarctica).
  • DI (for Discovery Investigations) wasn't a familiar abbreviation to me, so I expanded and wikilinked it (likewise mention of the RSS Discovery as "Discovery") at Fantome Rock.
  • WP:SHIPS recommends italicising the names of ships.
  • I turned your "mapped by" and "named by" details into full sentences.

See [4] and [5] for examples of the sort of changes I've made. I may continue editing some of these but you're a long way ahead of me — and apologies if I'm teaching a grandmother to suck eggs. Dave.Dunford (talk) 17:11, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. During the drive I won't be doing any formatting. The most important thing is that we get these articles started. Next stage then people can run AWB to make these sorts of minor edits, which are minor edits, which ever way you put it. Then the next stage in my view should be to merge all of the stubs related to one area into a single article if they can't be expanded. It would be different if I was actually writing the text myself but trust me it is much more efficient to do it this way and then run a bot/AWB to make these formatting changes later. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:17, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough; I'll stop editing them. But if you're creating them by some sort of mechanised process (excuse my ignorance) then it might at least be worth using the newer coord template. Must learn how to use AWB. Dave.Dunford (talk) 17:52, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, the text is already written,, its a paste job. It would genuinely be unfeasible to spent the time amending each one as the vast majority require exactly the same reformatting, to replace Named for with It is named after or to add Antarctica on the end of the opening sentences. Nautrally I agree with your reocmmendations most of which are minor issues I am fully aware of; that can be done much more efficiently later by an AWBer or a bot who could do the entire lot by ransacking a category within an hour I'd say. To my knowledge you can program say Category:Mountains of Antarctica and use AWB to add say , Antarctica at the end of every first sentence. If you are doing these sort of repetitive clean up edits it is almost a compulsory tool. Ask User:Rich Farmbrough about it who is the most prolific user of it. As I see there are no serious issues which would prevent them from being created especially as at a later date they will be sorted and many most likely merged into articles on a given area and made more comprehensive with other sources.. As I say it would be different if I was actually writing the texts but they aren't mine, its PD material already written...18:01, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are tempting me. Let me finish the targetted ones first. I will come back to it later. I have been to many places in Algeria including Oran and my interest in this country is quite deep rooted and goes back to the 80s. I did a dam project study called the Ouled Melluk Project. I will come to this mosque later after we finish A-Z list. I have started on Santa Cruz Fort, Oran in my User:Nvvchar/sandbox/Miscel.. Braye Harbour and Saint Anne, Alderney ‎ are yet to be posted on DYK. Rosiestep has added text in the latter article. Also please see Hofn article. You tempted me into this Ketchaoua Mosque. I could not resist finishing it. It is ready for DYK by the due date. But give me a break to finish some of my articles on India. I will do the Burmese articles a little later but before the due dates for DYK posting. No more suggestions for a while. Nope - Roanoke County isn't an area I know well. Roanoke proper I've been to once or twice, years ago - my father lived there when he was a boy. It's a not unpleasant place, from what I can recall. Botetourt's a different matter, now - the freshman dorm complex where I lived at W&M was called Botetourt, and he has a county named for him as well. Popular fellow, apparently. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:30, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's the largest in that part of the state. Not very flashy, but as I recall it's become a financial center in recent years. Still, with all due respect, one isn't likely to go there unless one is passing through the area. I seem to recall having been there twice, once when I was very young; I don't get down to southwest Virginia much, though I have a soft spot in my heart for Buchanan County and Grundy. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:36, 11 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Tibetan naming conventions

A few months ago, I posted a new proposal for Tibetan naming conventions, i.e. conventions that can be used to determine the most appropriate titles for articles related to the Tibetan region. This came out of discussions about article titles on Talk:Qamdo and Talk:Lhoka (Shannan) Prefecture. I hope that discussions on the proposal's talk page will lead to consensus in favour of making these conventions official, but so far only a few editors have left comments. If you would be interested in taking a look at the proposed naming conventions and giving your opinion, I would definitely appreciate it. The first sentence would need to be reworded. I suggest this reference which says "Where a harbor (Braye Harbour) is sheltered by a long breakwater" [6]. I have also mostly completed this article Makushin Volcano under Aleutian Islands. However, I could not reference to para of the lead section. May be your search could help.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 07:03, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My inputs are now complete. I have found two references to the native name of the Makushin but could not locate the Russian meaning. May consider deleting the text in the lead part related to this. Expansion is several times more than the original text.

If the common references for the Braye Harbour and Saint Anne articles, pl consider posting them as individual DYKs with separate text for the hooks.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:22, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Change suggested is OK. No problem. I have refixed the imgs in multiple format. The infobox image looks very impressive. But the central img looks very big, Can its height be reduced. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:43, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Glacier articles posted on 4th November qualifying the 5x criteria. But there is review remark rejecting one artcile on the glacier and suggesting expansion of the Hofn article by 500 ch. May be you could reply to these observations. Another observation is on the double article hook on the Åland Maritime Museum. Suggestion Lai is good but I can't find the reference for the book given in the Grain Race article and quoate the page number. Please have a look at both these hooks, apart from the other observation on the reference which is a wiki source. We seem to be getting into trouble with our DYKs.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:00, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Breiðamerkurjökull prose was expanded from 154 ch (0n 31st October) to 3852 ch now. It is more than 5x. I don't know why 2x has been mentioned by the reviewer. I have noted this in the DYK talk page. I have also noted that Hofn prose has been expanded from 793ch to 5381 ch. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 13:36, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I added some text to Kanmaw, but very hard to find more text.I spent four hours finding sources with several combination. Great Tenasserim River is doable. On Tenasserim, there is more on the province than on the town. May be Rosiestep could also help, if she has time.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 13:59, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Makushin Volcano is still to be nominated. It is really a very informative one. Should get maximum hits.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 14:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Two for each country is still fine provided we don't do double article hooks. Each can be posted with an independent hook unless very strong references linking both can be found as in the case of Tibetan and Sikkim articles.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 14:15, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed reference and also an img to the hook. Fagatogo, and Tutuila as it could subsume Hurricane Val in view of status of references. Umnak we can do after Burma. I have listed two Indian articles one on Coffee production in India and the other on Rice production in India. I have gathered most of the references. Two days job to do the rest. I think we forgot to post this Basilica di San Marino on DYK.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 16:07, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Incubosullacittàcontaminata.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Incubosullacittàcontaminata.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Re: Missing articles

Hey man that's great! Glad to have you on board! As for myself, I have been quite inactive the past few months (only doing minor gnomish related things hear and there) but I am sure all the others working at the missing articles section would be happy to see your contributions (recent example eliminating the missing companies sub project). But having said that while doing the stubs feel free to do your DYK articles as well as I actually had a look through some of them and they are quite amazing! My personal favorite being Pomegranate production in Afghanistan! Oh and that is fine re: Antarctica! If you find other lists like that put them on the missing project list for them to get the most visibility!Calaka (talk) 14:12, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dude, I haven't seen that sub page before and it is brilliant! Don't worry about Time's person of the year: You would be Wikipedian of the year by far! Yeah I really don't think people would make much issue with you creating so long as there is a source or two (and they have no issue with the source as once upon a time with the geo related articles) then it should be all good. Cheers man!Calaka (talk) 14:50, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Starting to think I am being stalked! :~) No problem whatsoever - collaboration is great. If I come across some, I will add them in. I seem to be on a roll doing Burmese artists. Extraordinary the lack of articles. Three when I started. And it is easy to find sources. The only thing annoying is that images of their pictures are not freely available. Aymatth2 (talk) 18:44, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I try to suppress sarcasm, but often fail. Maybe I should stay clear of talk pages altogether. My interests are random subjects I know nothing about, although often I find an area with a lot of potential articles and explore it for a while. I like doing bios. There are so many untouched areas. I am often quite pessimistic about the value of the project, but enjoy doing the verbal jigsaw puzzles. I think I am maybe a bit less willing than you to make a quick entry and move on. A harmless hobby. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:38, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The pictures are great! They hugely improve both articles, bringing them to life. I just assumed there was no way to reproduce recent works, so did not try. I will remember that in future. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 13:14, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I suppose the concern is reuse for commercial purposes. But if the image is a 200px x 300px reproduction of a picture hanging in a national gallery somewhere it is hard to see how it could be exploited. One more artist, then I have to take a break for while - the real world is interfering. Aymatth2 (talk) 13:32, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You probably think that a self portrait is an excellent way to show what the artist looks like and their style in a single image. Very clever. Be warned that the image police have you on their watchlist, and are discussing the right moment to strike, when you are least expecting it.

They really do look good though. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 20:27, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Taninthayi Township

Well, the old capital of Tenasserim Township was the same as the state capital, namely Tavoy. With the name changes, it should be the same, i.e. the capital of Tanintharyi Township (with that new extra "r" that the Burmans add) should be Dawei. Why did you think that it wouldn't be Dawei? --Bejnar (talk) 19:56, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'll look deeper. --Bejnar (talk) 20:04, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, the British townships weren't the same. On the Tanintharyi Division topo map (Map Id: MIMU270v01, dated 15 February 2010) it shows a town named Tanintharyi as the capital. The town of Tanintharyi is on the main north-south coastal road. --Bejnar (talk) 20:14, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, they used to be one township and were divided. Which is why my old map shows all of those islands as being in Mergui. Corrected for centering, and still on land, I then get 12° 5' 0" N 98° 26' E. The town of Kyunsu is south of center on Kawmaw Island (Kawmaw Kyun). The best map I've found for detail there is here, no lat/long. --Bejnar (talk) 21:59, 13 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Uruguay Clearwater Revival

Hi Doc, Well, 'no promise' is a fairly good deal! I am getting things assessed (especially in terms of importance) and classified to "topic=x" so that one (=me too) can easily see what exists or not and where it is best to develop. There are many general articles missing or way too undeveloped. The only active users (2) in Uruguay are mainly focused on sports. The Spanish side is somewhat better. But most of WP South America is not very active. I guess the way things are going, people in these areas have less time to spare. So any help you manage to scrape up will make a difference. By the way, your name seems to be under every stone I turn :) Hoverfish Talk 12:06, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Um, I would be ++thankful if you tell me more about "using those (mapmaking) tools". I am having a lousy time with my learning curve of Inkscape. I have a map, say a jpg or even pdf, I import it in Inkscape, put a new layer over it and then I try to trace out the borders and subdivisions, rivers, whatever. Well, I do it by hand, every milimeter of it, yet with the thought that I missing some much more convenient way. If you have any practical info (beyond the basics which i have read over and over), I would appreciate some links. Oh, and no, I haven't been yet to Termas del Arapey, but everybody sais it's a nioe place, so I might try it some time. Hoverfish Talk 12:32, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, that's really really great! Congrats! I will jump into learning asap. Also there is lots I can do for this article. I will probably get these "cite sources" tags, but I will see what I do about them. Hoverfish Talk 13:11, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I have more for Parque Battle (the barrio). Give me some time to sort it out. Will notify when done. Hoverfish Talk 18:29, 14 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I will mention a very notable monument which falls slightly outside the West side of your map and the Zoo of Villa Dolores, which falls slighly off the SE side. Take a look at the Google map I have highlighted here and, if possible, strech it out a bit. You don't have to include the area that protrudes towards the NE, as there is nothing notable to mention there. Just West enough to get the Obelisco included and SE to get the Zoo in. I am very much disheartened by the GA reaction on the huge article of Thimpu, and the Kathmandu article which has been much interfered by horde of users from Nepal and other places, which has now no hope for making it to GA ever, and on which we worked on for several days.-- N.V.V. Thanks for that 200 DYK barnstar. You know how it goes... you just keep writing because that's what you want to do, and eventually, it really adds up to a lot of articles. Also wanted to say it's been nice working on some of these 200 with you. It's noticeable how teaming up improves an article. Burma

See User:Dr. Blofeld/Burma1 and User:Dr. Blofeld/Burma2. Basically, I ran the web spider, and created a bulleted list with the hierarchy of places. I wikilinked the titles, although many of these are obviously not going to go to the right place. I split the first page into sections to match to the top level of divisions in Burma. On the second page, I listed all the duplicates, which will be necessary to disambiguate. If you still want navboxes, this should be possible, but I thought I would use this as a first step, and subsequent steps can be made without running the web spider again (i.e., simple post processing). Ok, prima! (Btw, did you invent the term "stubbing" or does it precede you?) Yes, following the 59 barrios as shown on the template, some of them will have to be redirected. Itwill not always be easy to decide which to let in mainspace and which to redirect. The way it is, there are composite barrio names containing two or more formerly separate barrios. For example "Capurro and Bella Vista" is one barrio with a composite name, including two areas with different stories and outlook. Neither can claim alone to be one of the 59, so we will have to chose between messing with the leads or move to a composite name (which doesn't sound good} or something. Now that an evil organization has cast the dice, we will have to find a way. Back to history translation now. Hoverfish Talk 19:03, 15 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If I see any articles needing maps, I'll let you know! :) I don't know how to use AWB on the commons, and I don't think I have AWB loaded on my new laptop yet. Hopefully those top-priority images are uploaded. I don't know if the bots can sort the images by priority, but once they get started they are very fast getting all the images loaded. I am definitely interested in helping to translate Montevideo, but I'm not sure if I will be able to contribute much for a while (say, until after Christmas). I have a case going to trial on 11/29, and the trial is scheduled to last three weeks. Lately I am working every day, including weekends, and I am staying till 11pm-ish most weekdays. Blagh. Great going!! I changed the spelling of Villa Muñóz to Muñoz. For some reason this is the way it is written here [8]. Also I redirected Villa Dolores to Parque Batlle, as it is not a barrio by itself and we have now a subsection for it. Also I started Reus al Norte, which you see on every postcard stand in the city. Back to history now. Hoverfish Talk 10:57, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Keep in mind that the Central Cemetary is something of a museum (not officially as such though), an area where some cultural events take place and generally a "state of the art" place. I was astonished when I visited (I rarely care much for cemetaries). Hoverfish Talk 11:04, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is a mix of British and American English in the article. In Uruguay, generally most of English is taught by Cambridge standards, though there are also American private colleges. I thing it should be neibour, theatre and so on. I'm about to do a full find and replace, but want to have your opinion first. What do you think? Hoverfish Talk 13:52, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Right! Can't imagine it spelled SPECTER! Ok, done correcting. I even posted a note in WP to keep it British. Hoverfish Talk 15:13, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the economy here is in a terrible state anyways, so the article simply reflects this I guess. Shall we import any from http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Econom%C3%ADa_de_Uruguay? It used to be a sort of Switzerland, but in recent times they approached EU and they have to conform with several restrictions. So it's not valid any more. I can take a look, after I get some more content into Boita and Maritime history of Orissa. I actually spent a fair amount of time there, years ago, working on an IT project. It has seen better days, the climate is not the best, apart from the beef and Tannat the food is nothing special, and yet I really liked the place and would love an excuse to go back. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:13, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

My Spanish is enough for the most important purposes, e.g. "Uno fileto de lomo, medio, por favor, e una copa de vino tinto - tiene Tannat?" I can get by, verbally. But Google translate is a big help. Orissa seafaring has potential to be a sizable article. Getting descriptions of the ships is a bit harder, so I am working on that first. Aymatth2 (talk) 20:27, 17 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • The U list is shrinking. I took out Bagyi Aung Soe because User:Calliopejen1 made some real improvements, then put it in for DYK, probably not spotting the mass nomination. To me, this is one of the more interesting of the series, and I prefer a separate entry. I printed out 5 PDFs on Orissa maritime history and took them to the pub. The result is I am not able to do anything more on it this evening apart from putting in the source links, but am convinced it is a major topic and will try to start seriously on it tomorrow. At least two maps are needed, one showing the locations of the ports, which changed due to silting, and another the trade routes. I've also been filling in some of the Infobox Settlement stuff, including filling in the region and department and adding the pushpin map. Coordinates would be helpful on several of the articles... The article Gaden Choeling Nunnery has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only source (and coverage) is from a self-published source; only notability comes from a few nuns who had a minor part in a notable event

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Additions to Lhasa

Your detailed additions to the Lhasa city article are NOT improving the article. In fact, it turned an okay article into a mess where 70% of the article is dedicated to buildings. It is an article on the city in general and does not need history on every building in it or even a carpet factory. It is far better to create new articles and LINK those to the city article than adding all the clutter to the city article. An example of what a city article should read like is New York City. Oh and also, don't add empty headings if you got nothing to say under it. Pal2002 (talk) 04:25, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to have to agree with him on this one. and tone it down, Pal2002? you don't wish for Dr. Blofeld to be potentially aggravated. --HXL's Roundtable, and Record 05:37, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Côte d'Ivoire

The cities are on my list! I'm starting with the geo stubs which include a lot of smaller towns, and a few important villages, rather than the cities, as there are probably many more editors who can tackle the cities and very few who can place the small towns. --Kleopatra (talk) 05:16, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
