Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 82.132.249.191 (talk) at 06:36, 13 August 2012 (→‎{{la|Mike Love}}: Unprotect please). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Full protection: There is a content dispute involving fringe theories, which has resulted in a dozen reverts by various editors, and a mediation case which has just started. But one of the users is refusing to take part in mediation, saying "he has no time" and insists on reverting the page over and over. I am requesting full indefinite protection for the page, until the conslusions of the mediation case, to encourage all parties to take part in the mediation per WP:Dispute. Temporary full protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked – User is trying to evade block by using sockpuppets. It appears that he has no intention of stopping. Requesting protection until user's block expires. GrayFullbuster (talk) 06:01, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Page blanking. TucsonDavidU.S.A. 03:45, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Continued attempts by anon IP editors to add unreferenced original research/misleading/incorrect section into the article. MikeWazowski (talk) 17:29, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Continued attempts by anon IP editors to add unreferenced original research/misleading/incorrect section into the article. MikeWazowski (talk) 17:29, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism by pov pushers on a very contentious issue. Cliniic (talk) 11:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

also I would like to point out the vandalism is being carried out by ip users since the last three weeks non stop. Cliniic (talk) 11:50, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temp semi For at least a few days. Has attracted a lot of multi-IP vandalism recently and needs protection until cleaned up by a subject expert. Philip Trueman (talk) 04:24, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Done, thank you. --Bongwarrior (talk) 04:49, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – ip vandalisng page. TucsonDavidU.S.A. 02:28, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Enigmamsg 03:10, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: High level of IP and not-autoconfirmed vandalism. This vandalism began since a Korean football player barred from a medal ceremony in London Olympic. ―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 00:55, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:10, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

TimedText:How to create a Wikipedia article - Right to science and culture.ogv.en.srt (edit | [[Talk:TimedText:How to create a Wikipedia article - Right to science and culture.ogv.en.srt|talk]] | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated – Repeatedly created and deleted under A1 and G2, three times since April. Till I Go Home 23:16, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Already protected. Enigmamsg 03:10, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism with numerous BLP vios and cruder vandalistic attacks. Would like to see a month protection to cool this activity down. Jusdafax 09:48, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) Whilst there isn't a lot of recent activity from what I saw most of the activity from IPs has been reverted (either by another IP or registered user). I would suggest semi-protecting for a week (since there have been a few days between attacks) to see if they lose interest. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 10:18, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A week would be fine, anything to break the pattern but that will be the admin's call of course. Things seem a bit slow here today in terms of decisions.
Semi-protected for a week. I agree, this on and off blp vandalism should come to rest. De728631 (talk) 19:06, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: There never seems to be very many admins active on the weekends. -- Dianna (talk) 01:34, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Except certain idiots who shall remain nameless except for our signatures.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:42, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Unprotect. I want to start a discussion there please. 82.132.249.191 (talk) 06:36, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

Semi-protection: Several users, mostly IP's, continue to edit characters age when it has been decided on the talk page. Grammarxxx (talk) 21:58, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:10, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism Kiki360 (talk) 21:08, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:05, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent IP revert-warring without discussion. If forced to discuss by being unable to edit the article we might resolve the issue. No other IPs editing article. nableezy - 19:59, 12 August 2012 (UTC) 19:59, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) This seems to be more of a content dispute between you and the IP. TucsonDavidU.S.A. 20:25, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for one week. The information the IP is adding is contradicted by the quoted source. I somehow marked it as a BLP problem, which it's not, but meh. -- Dianna (talk) 21:39, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. Xtian06 (talk) 13:10, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for three days. Dianna (talk) 21:44, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – 15 August is Indian Independence Day. Lots of non-constructive edits are being made in this article. Can someone semi-protect the article for 1 week (till 19 August)? . Tito Dutta 12:30, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) There have only been four reverts today and none yesterday, so I don't think there is enough recent activity to justify protection. If the article were to be semi-protection I would suggest that protection past 15 August probably wouldn't be necessary. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 12:41, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected this GA for three days. That should be adequate, as it's already the 13th in India. Dianna (talk) 21:49, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Three-revert rule on additional unnecessary colors added by IP editors, such as Jessica Sanchez's initial runner-up. ApprenticeFan work 10:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for three days. Please continue to try to get the IPs to discuss things on the talk page. Dianna (talk) 21:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This article is about a current event and has been vandalized several times today, so protection would be a good preventative measure to ease the burden on vandal-patrollers backs. Requesting 24 hour protection, with Move=Autoconfirmed and Edit=Autoconfirmed. Electric Catfish 20:21, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for 24 hours. Article was move-protected when I arrived. Dianna (talk) 21:28, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Vandalism from IPs, probably due to the new football season starting soon. The C of E. God Save The Queen! (talk) 19:48, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. If it escalates, you can re-report it.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP vandalism has started up as we approach the release one week for now. Doubt many constructive edits will occur before release, request protection till Aug 21, when reviews will be available to expand article. -- ferret (talk) 17:43, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected for one month. De728631 (talk) 18:51, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Continued attempts by anon IP editors to add unreferenced original research/misleading/incorrect section into the article. MikeWazowski (talk) 17:27, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. This appears to be a content dispute between you and the IPs. Part of your rationale for removal is that the information is redundant and another part is that it is unsourced. I'm hardly an expert on this material, but I did see that franchise material is in the lead but not in the body (at least not with the word "franchise"), and the material in the lead is unsourced. Perhaps you should raise this issue on the article Talk page?--Bbb23 (talk) 18:56, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – One of user named "Awadhi" removing contents again and again. While ago i've warned him.Meanwhile reverted some of his edits.Although i'm requesting this page for semi-protection but the user is i think auto confirmed,so he/she must be able to edit even though after semi-protection.Take appropriate action. Thank You. 25 CENTS VICTORIOUS 15:18, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

(Non-administrator comment) As it is only one user who is already autoconfirmed, semi-protection would not be applicable here - they could edit past it. Full protection also probably would not make sense here, as (said previously) it is only one user. Theopolisme TALK 16:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    Declined. Agree with Theopolisme.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:49, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection. various anonymous editors constantly (just happened for the fifth time in three days) remove his height/weight, even though there are sources provided for it. Please semi-protect for a couple of days. --bender235 (talk) 14:09, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Declined. Only one IP lately. I issued final warning.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:38, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ongoing vandalism by various IP users. . Best regards, Cindy(talk to me) 13:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Bbb23 (talk) 18:31, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection. Persistent vandalism. Jim1138 (talk) 03:41, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk endorsed This seems to be a pretty clear case - mass vandalism by a number of IPs, suggest semi-protection for 12-24 hours to see if they lose interest. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 05:48, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
    Semi-protected for 24 hours. De728631 (talk) 18:57, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
