South Kamrup District is one of the 35 districts of Indian state of Assam. This district is formed by dividing Kamrup Rural district. It may be mentioned that the constituencies of Palasbari, Chaygaon and Boko constituencies have been included to create the South Kamrup district.[1][2] Bijoynagar is a major town in the district.

Demography

As per Indian census 2011 the newly formed South Kamrup district had a population of 811805. South Kamrup district has six tehsils. These are Palasbari,Boko,Chaygaon,Chamaria,Goroimari,Nagarbera. As per Indian census 2011 these six tehsils had a total of 430231 Hindus & 348070 Muslims. Hindus are 53% of district population,Muslims are 42.88% of district's population. [3]
