The prime minister of Syria (Arabic: رئيس وزراء سوريا), formally titled the president of the Council of Ministers (Arabic: رئيس مجلس الوزراء), is the head of government of the Syrian Arab Republic.[2]

Nomination

The prime minister is appointed by the president of Syria, along with other ministers and members of the government that the new prime minister recommends.[3]

The People's Assembly of Syria then approve the legislative program of the new government, before the new government formally take office.[3]

There are no constitutional limits on a prime minister's term, and several of them served multiple non-consecutive terms.[4]

  • Upon dismissal by the president

List of prime ministers

Living former prime ministers

As of November 2024, there are six living former Syrian prime ministers. The most recent to die was Muhammad Mustafa Mero (2000–2003), on 22 December 2020.[5]
