The Lego Ninjago Movie (stylized as The LEGO Ninjago Movie) is an upcoming 2017 American 3D computer-animated action-comedy martial arts film, directed by Charlie Bean and written by Dan Hageman, Kevin Hageman, Kevin Chesley and Bryan Shukoff . It is a spin-off of the 2014 film The Lego Movie. It features the voices of Dave Franco, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Woods, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, and Jackie Chan. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on September 22, 2017 through Warner Bros. Pictures.

Premise

Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skill and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens, struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.[1]

Development

On September 17, 2013, it was announced that Warner Bros. Pictures was developing an animated Ninjago film based on the Lego toy line Lego Ninjago, which the Hageman brothers, Dan and Kevin Hageman, who wrote Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu and co-wrote the story of The Lego Movie, would be writing the film adaptation.[3] Charlie Bean would direct the film, and would be produced by the The Lego Movie team of Dan Lin, Roy Lee, and both Phil Lord and Chris Miller.[3] On June 27, 2016, the films voice cast was announced which included Jackie Chan, Dave Franco, Michael Peña, Kumail Nanjiani, Zach Woods, Fred Armisen, and Abbi Jacobson.[2]

Release

The Lego Ninjago Movie will be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on September 22, 2017.[4] It was previously scheduled for an September 23, 2016 release.[5]
