Dear Doctor
[edit]Dear Ernst
I am appealing to your better/less evil nature as I have seen that you have assessed some articles on Thoroughbred racehorses. I would like you to have a quick look at any one of these articles: Conduit, Fantastic Light, Daylami, Dubai Millennium, Duke of Marmalade. Is there anything screamingly, obviously wrong? If not, what areas should I be working on to get them into GA contention. Tigerboy1966 (talk) 14:22, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
They look in good shape and look like they could pass GA. Offhand I would say ensure tabled data is sourced and wikilink and italicize newspaper names in your references and make sure there are no bare URLs. Personally I would also rather that the dates were formatted as e.g 15 September 2011 rather than 2011-09-15. If you nominate one or two for GA I will try to take a look at them.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:12, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
- thanks for the prompt advice. I will look at the points you identified.Tigerboy1966 (talk) 07:21, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
- Have nominated Fantastic Light. Should be a good learning experience.Tigerboy1966 (talk) 13:17, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Thai national parks
[edit]Way too many articles missing from this List of national parks of Thailand. Am going to concentrate on them. Have started Doi Inthanon National Park, Thap Lan National Park, Salawin National Park which may interest you; miss NVV when I'm working on this kind of grouping. Lake Jipe in dyk prep; didn't require our review of another. Glad to see that Article of the Month is gaining traction... great idea... given the opportunity, I think capable writers would jump at it! --Rosiestep (talk) 21:10, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
"Enrico Caruso: leggenda di una voce" again
[edit]Listen here, Blofeld. I found that NY Times reference all by myself, fair and square. I demand you self-revert and allow me to add that back in, or I'll run down teh information superhighway, jump out of your monitor and give your vonny rot a bolshy tolchok!--Alex DeLarge58 (talk) 09:06, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
DYK for Lake Jipe
[edit]On 4 October 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Lake Jipe, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that the Jipe tilapia is endemic to Lake Jipe, whose main water sources descend from Mount Kilimanjaro? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lake Jipe. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

towns and villages
[edit]I have much of the data, but not all (locations are missing for about 15% of villages), but that's the plan to do like in {{Ardabil County}} all over Iran. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:52, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- That's the plan, and I will template the districts at that time, when I go through with creating articles on all the rural districts that make up the districts, and the villages that make up the rural districts. What do you think about whether or not articles should be created for various boarding schools and boarding factories which were census counted places in the 2006 Iranian census. I think for completion that's appropriate - akin to the having articles on various US schools and military bases and migrant worker camps (not to mention prisons and mental institutions) that are census-designated places. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 17:57, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
- I'm using it regularly from article to article and its a pain in the butt to keep opening it and waiting. Carlossuarez46 (talk) 21:45, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Creating / canceling categories
[edit]Thank you for your Barnstar, the motivation is appreciated. As someone with much experience, would you mind guiding me on something?
- Category talk:Former world record holders in Thoroughbred racing
- Category talk:World record holders in Thoroughbred racing
I created the above two categories based on how I saw these "Sports" ones had been done at Category:World record holders in swimming and others like Category:World record holders in shooting. However, I just discovered that User:Cuddy Wifter deleted the category from all my articles without letting me know there was a problem and left the Category folders both empty with a comment on their Talk page that says: "There are no criteria or definition for this category. Please take it to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing for a wider discussion."
I checked that WikiProject page but there is no discussion and I really don't understand "no criteria or definition" as I don't see any in the ones that I used as a guideline which have been there for six years and five years, respectively. And, I really don't understand the procedure longtime contributor Mr. Wifter used or how I go about doing whatever he says is required.
Thank you, any advice is appreciated. Hialeah Harry (talk) 02:31, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
U.S. states locator maps
[edit]Thanks for spreading the maps all over the place. I consider this a positive feedback. However, I've noticed that you didn't replace maps for Alaska, Hawaii and Alaska. Maybe you like to check out maps in Commons:Category:SVG locator maps of states of the United States (location map scheme). There you'll find most propably maps that suit better for small states (like for tiny Rhode Island, for not so tiny Connecticut or even for tiny kind-of-state D.C.). The category may also contain maps that show real-location of Alaska and Hawaii in the very same style than all other maps. Alternatively, take a look on the German (<--Deutsch) Wikipedia. There I've applied the maps I like best for each state.--TUBS (talk) 09:58, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Ah I wasn't aware of those different scale maps, I will sort those now.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:15, 5 October 2011 (UTC)
Alaska map
[edit]Hi, Dr. Blofeld, I see you have changed the colors on the maps of the U.S. states. I live in Alaska, so have that state on my watchlist. I reverted the change, not realizing you'd taken it upon yourself to change all 50. (Well, I only checked three others.) If you have a good reason for the change, I'd be happy to hear it and cooperate with your improvement. Aesthetically, I much prefer the old colors, so if there's any way to retain/restore them, I would ask you not to make such a sweeping change without first garnering consensus.
I've pasted in here communications from and to User:TUBS that prompted me to communicate with you.
Thanks, and have a great day.
If you dislike the map proposed by the Doctor, consider choosing that one, which is pretty much the same map that is now showing the location of Alaska. No wonder: same template was used. However, colors were changed in order to match common style of wikipedia location maps (cf. Juneau, Alaska-map) and all the other U.S. state location maps. You decide. Have a nice day. Greetings from Germany.--TUBS (talk) 18:35, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, and thanks for dropping by. I see Dr. Blofeld has systematically gone through and messed up all the state maps, not just Alaska's. What a shame! I don't have time to fix them. My reversion was to the long-standing "common style" that he, apparently on his own, decided to change. I strongly disagree with that decision. Tschüss! Yopienso (talk) 20:00, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Rivers
[edit]Pangani River may interest you; the geography section needs to be re-worked. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:34, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
The Pangani River is interesting. It includes the Lumi River in its upper stretch (I haven't woven that into the article yet), Lake JIpe (a backwater of the Lumi) in the middle, and Ruvu River between the lake and the ocean. As the lake is a transborder lake, would that make the Pangani a transborder river? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:39, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
Montecito Inn looks ready for dyk. I can do that tomorrow unless you jump to it first. I'd actually been thinking about the A-Z country challenge after I saw Nvv's note; let's keep it going. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:05, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Incorrect nomination of Shayna Ferm
[edit]Hi!
I appreciate your work in nominating articles for speedy deletion, but please read the articles thoroughly before nominating. You nominated the article Shayna Ferm for speedy deletion under A7 (non-notable). However, there were several items within the article which indicated that this was nothing more than an attack page (swearing, for example). I won't go into full details on here, but suffice to say if you had read the article carefully you would have been in no doubt as to the motive behind the article.
The G10 category page is watched more carefully than A7, and so articles are removed much more quickly. The A7 page tends to have a lot in there, so articles such as the one you nominated can hang around for a lot longer. This article remained live for over 14 hours, whereas it would have been deleted in minutes had it been correctly nominated.
If you have any questions, please feel free to drop me a message. Stephen! Coming... 10:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Can you help out. I haven't ever uploaded anything like picture files and there are lots on the farsi wiki for the city articles I'm creating/editing. They will need to be uploaded to commons to be accessible. For example [1] a nice public domain picture for Ala-e Marvdasht. I would be obliged if you could upload a few of these (which can be found by clinking on the farsi interwiki links on unpictured articles, then clicking on the pic to see its copyright status (icons; you don't need to try to translate the farsi). - What, you are expecting it that soon?! :)))
- Kidding aside, it is actually mostly done. There is still tons to do as far as refs go (for now they need to be taken care manually), and there are a couple federal subjects I've given up on and used OKATO (because nothing better seems to be forthcoming), but the data core is in and usable. I'm sorting out the high-level special cases now (such as this), and am hoping to start working on the selsoviets/rural settlements framework next—that'll make it possible to link the selsoviets on pages like this and also easily generate the lists of administrative/municipal divisions in the articles about the districts (similar to this). I don't expect anyone else to be much excited about these developments, but I sure am! :)—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); October 11, 2011; 16:06 (UTC)
- We'll definitely need a bot operator eventually, but it's a bit too early to worry about that just yet. In order for someone to be able to program a bot, they'll need to know exactly what needs to be done, and I can't provide that information until I do a number of test cases manually and then program a rudimentary semi-automated script to test the flow. The data core may be in, but a bunch of bells and whistles is yet missing, and without those a bot run could easily become a total disaster. Don't worry, though—I'm not about to stop working on this now that the most boring and labor-intensive part is almost taken care of!—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); October 11, 2011; 16:23 (UTC)

Russian districts update
[edit]I've finished Astrakhan Oblast and created a template for Bryansk Oblast at Brasovsky District. If you are wondering what happened to Belgorod Oblast which is right after Astrakhan, that one I'll be taking care of on my own. England/United Kingdom years
[edit]Hi there and thanks for your message. It seems to me that some work needs to be done and I have just started. Some of the United Kingdom years deal almost exclusively with news developments concerning England alone - such as results for the England football team but no mentio of the teams representing the other countries. News items that are really only of relevance or interest in one country of the UK should appear in that country's article and news items of more and wider significance should be in the United Kingdom articles. I have split some articles and now intend to add/remove content to improve the balance. Thanks Fishiehelper2 (talk) 18:47, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Have you actually checked all my edits or just this one revert? I paid attention to everything I had reverted. And I made many edits after that, including fixing links (see diff), adding some info and correcting other stuff. The thing is most of the info the anon added (and he is a clear sock of Shez 15, who is now indefinitely blocked) is fancruft. He removed everything negative, added gushing sentences of glorification, and a lot of what he had added was copied verbatim from Zinta's article. Now I can't go edit by edit to fix each one of his mistakes, many unreliable sources, and POV-pushing (and fan-led additions like "the new starlet of the nation", "grand entry into the small screen" etc.), and I don't think a sock deserves it. Apart from that, there are reliable sources but there's also WP:UNDUE which one must adhere to. I also mentioned it all on the talk page. Shahid • Talk2me 15:25, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
- Do you man think it's funny and far from reality? That's exactly what this guy Shez 15 was doing for three years. He was turning the page into what even a fansite would look more objective than. He'd write how talented she is, that she is one of the most successful stars on the continent! Then he'd go and change all the film articles in which she appeared by giving her top-billing, and what not. Just see some random edits on unrelated articles: this and this!! Man, see what he did on Wikiquote: [2], CONTINENT! LOL!.
- Pa7, Zora, Plumcouch, all had to fight with him in daily edit wars and bear his insults. It was a true example of fanaticism - and then he would go and accuse everyone of being jealous of Mukerji! this was a bad period and now, after being blocked, he's back with his nonsense. Am not going to deal with it yet again. Shahid • Talk2me 18:45, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

- Nothing is a con as long as you yourself are aware of what you're doing and why you're doing it. If it's still popular with people, and people keep going to these courses then it must be good for something. I personally see nothing complex about it (in general - as I said I've never been to any such thing) and don't think it's worth paying for regularly because once you're in it, I think you don't have much else to learn. Dodgy templates
[edit]It should be easy enough to make templates with links that point to where they are supposed to point. But maybe you have problems with that: [4]. I doubt if I have repaired all the wrong linking links...
Checking on Template:Ma-ubin Township and Template:Salingyi Township gave the same tragic results. The last template is for instance pointing to Kanni, a south Indian dog-breed, Kantha, a type of emboidery in Bangladesh, and Padu, a village in Estonia.
So please, check you templates and let them point to where thay are supposed to point! Night of the Big Wind talk 20:20, 18 October 2011 (UTC)

[edit]I'm working on Henry Wilson (sailor), which has an interesting story to tell about Palau (see this for details I'll be adding in some form). Understanding what went on rather depends on the relative locations of the islands of Ulong (that's a dab page, too small for its own article now) and Koror. Speedy deletion nomination of Infant Jesus Higher Primary School
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Infant Jesus Higher Primary School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Bruvtakesover 18:46, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
- Of course, speedy deletion is not appropriate for schools. But it doesn't appear that this one merits inclusion in the encyclopedia. Please comment on the article's talk page if you wish to share your views. Bongomatic 01:18, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Especially if there's a reason for this article not to be deleted, I would prefer to hear your views here or on the article's talk page rather than at an avoidable AfD discussion. Thanks. Bongomatic 01:42, 27 October 2011 (UTC)
A note from the Pink underground
[edit]Hi Blofeld. I wouldn't waste time trying to win Jimbo's ear back from the Gríma Wormtongues that have him under their sway. Better to waste time contributing to articles which will soon be bastardized and deleted... Such a pity that a guy who used to claim Wikipedia would aspire to the "sum of human knowledge" now, in his senility, repeats drivel spouted by censorious bigots on his talkpage... I'm sure you've read my rants many times before, but: The prudery of the WASP/Anglo-Saxon prudes who now run the project makes a thorough coverage of my main areas of editing interest-- Japanese and Korean cinema-- impossible here. Sōjirō Motoki, the producer of Seven Samurai spent most of his career making Pink films; Yōjirō Takita, the winner of the US Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film spent a major portion of his career making notable Pink films; the "Ero" genre in South Korea saved their film industry during one of its most difficult decades; etc., etc... But major portions of the biographies and works of these and many other major filmmakers will never be seen here if the Hullaballoo Wolfowitzes, Scott MacDonalds, Epbr123s, etc. ["personal attack deleted/Wikipedia is not censored"] have their way. And they do. There are projects which attempt to honestly cover their claimed subject areas. Wikipedia is not one. Wikipedia is a circus, and the clowns are in charge. Dekkappai (talk) 00:48, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
When I post on Jimbo's talk page it is directed at the community rather than solely at him. Sure I was interested to see his views on whether it was appropriate or not but I can't help thinking there is excessive consideration of BLPs on here. If reliable newspapers cover a relationship for 5 years with thousands of photographs then one can not really argue that the tabloids got it wrong. That's my view on the matter anyway.♦ Dr. Blofeld 10:17, 24 October 2011 (UTC)
- Fair enough. Though the "community" that hangs around there seems to be the worst of the worst. "BLP" is just the latest Wiki buzz-word excuse for anti-content thugs to bash sourced contributions, and to freely edit-war... Other projects value their contributors more. Anyway, have fun here if you can find it. Regards. Dekkappai (talk) 19:49, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Pangani River DYK
[edit]An issue was raised at WT:Did you know about the clarity of the hook (about Pangani having a reputation for fevers), and while I disagreed, I noticed on looking at the article that the hook and the paragraph describe Pangani as a village—but the source is dated 1872 and it's now a town. The DYK reviewer had suggested an alternate hook, which I think might be better in order to simply avoid both issues; I would have changed it but the Prep is now a Queue and will hit the main page at midnight UTC. You may want to weigh in at Talk:Did You Know on which hook you prefer; the existing one, if kept, should be changed to reflect the fact it's no longer a village. I've modified the article text to reflect that. Yngvadottir (talk) 21:09, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for resolving Umbrage (film) deletion log. ASHUIND 21:21, 26 October 2011 (UTC) |
Thanks for adding some meat to the stub. However, Ref 1 just has the year it was made and the names of 4 persons who worked on it. Ref 2 lists more names from the credits. Neither really supports notability, though that info can be useful if notability is otherwise established. Ref 3 displays not even a snippet of info, and not even a page number for info about this film. Ditto Refs 4 and 5; the links display zero info relevant to this film. Ref 6 is about a different film, Perla Negra, in which some of the cast participated, which I do not see as support for notability of this film. You did mention that in the text you added. There is no link for ref 7. So did you examine these books in a library to obtain info from them, or find info in the brief summary displayed with some search result at Google Book or elsewhere? How exactly did you state your Google Book search to get results about this film, because I came up dry. Searching "Diez segundos" yields 43000 results, most just juxtaposition of the words. Adding wehner cut it down to 3 results, 2 with no preview or information, the third with a brief snippet which would appear to fall under the "Being in Maltin's big book listing every movie does not demonstrate notability" part of the film notability guideline, saying only ". de Fregonese; Nace la libertad, de Saraceni; Corrientes, calle de ensueños, de Viñoly Barreto; Edición extra, de Moglia Barth; Diez segundos, de Wehner, y varias populares de tono menor como Pantalones cortos y El nieto de Congreve, ...". What was the magic search term? I feel the need to verify as best as I can the sources that you feel support notability. The photos add to the article. It is frustrating that other countries allow public domain access after only 20 or 25 years, and in the US we are "Mickey Moused" back to 1928 or whatever by copyright laws unbalanced in favor of media corporations. Thanks. Edison (talk) 22:53, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
- The book in which you found and from which you cited the two newspaper reviews, "Un diccionario de films argentinos (1930-1995)" does not show up in Google Book Search: [5], so no wonder I did not find it. Edison (talk) 22:58, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
