Sheridan Coakley page deletion

Hello, I want to contest the speedy deletion of the Sheridan Coakley biography page. The page was written in neutral language, contained numerous citations and he is a worthy personality for inclusion on Wikipedia as he has had a notable impact on the British design industry from the 1980s onwards. Similar personalities Zeev Aram (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeev_Aram) and Terence Conran (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_Conran) have pages. As do two of the designers mentioned on the page Matthew Hilton (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matthew_Hilton_(designer) and Jasper Morrison (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jasper_Morrison) and other designers from the period such as Tom Dixon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Dixon_(industrial_designer). As a point of note, Wikipedia is quite weak on the modern history of the British design industry, and I think further contributions about designers and personalities of the era should be welcomed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DuncanRiches (talkcontribs) 16:31, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello DuncanRiches, welcome to editing Wikipedia. I apologize that your first page contribution didn't turn out in your favor. I left a message on your talk page on how to create articles and get a used to editing on Wikipedia. If you have any questions feel free to head on over to the TeaHouse. I edit quite a few pages so I can't exactly remember what the issue was with Sheridan Coakley's biography page, but it most likely read too much like advertising/a resume and didn't have enough supporting secondary reliable sources. As always each biography page needs to meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for people. If you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Editors at the TeaHouse or over at Wikipedia's Industrial design project might be willing to help you rewrite your article so that it will pass Wikipedia's standards. If you have any conflict of interest with Sheridan Coakley, I would highly recommend you avoid recreating the page. Just because other pages exist often is not a strong argument (see Wikipedia:Other stuff exists). Sometimes articles slip through the cracks or have one significant thing about them that makes them notable. I hope I have thoroughly answered your question. Wikipedia definitely needs more industrial design articles and I hope you'll stick around and contribute! Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 17:30, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

ITN recognition for Austin package explosions

On 20 March 2018, In the news was updated with an item that involved the article Austin package explosions, which you updated. If you know of another recently created or updated article suitable for inclusion in ITN, please suggest it on the candidates page. Stephen 22:41, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

Use of tools

Especially when using tools to delete the contributions of another editor, where you must take extra care on both counts, please use an explanatory edit summary. For background, please read WP:FIES; this is especially important for continued use of tools. Thanks. --2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D (talk) 21:05, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

And now you have done it again. Using tools. No edit summary. And you made an incorrect assertion - he was not sentenced for 3 years on that one count. 2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D (talk) 21:07, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D, standard edit summaries generated by tools are permitted and were present in the reversion of your edits. Also remember WP:FIES is "not one of Wikipedia's policies or guidelines, as it has not been thoroughly vetted by the community." By the way, I am just asking you to put in an additional secondary citation. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 21:10, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
If you like, we can have an admin discuss with us whether it is proper when reverting an editor (which is as you can see the editing community's established practice or an aspect of Wikipedia's norms and customs), for you not to explain why, and when using tools, not to explain why. Use of tools is dependent on proper use -- it is not something given out, or left in the hands of, editors who use it without leaving edit summaries when reverting editors, to explain why they are doing that. If you think it is fine -- we have a problem, that we should address by bringing in admins to discuss it. Plus - your use of tools improperly in the above case, to insert a misstatement, is another problem. You are clearly using tools without proper thoughts, and that leads to mistakes, and is bad for the project, even though your intent is good. Let me know if you want me to invite an admin to add his or her thoughts. 2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D (talk) 21:17, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D, feel free to bring in admin if you think it is necessary. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 21:19, 22 March 2018 (UTC)
2604:2000:E016:A700:B4D2:B929:113C:49D,You might make a better case if you explained what you are actually objecting to, with a few more examples. No-one is obliged to leave an edit summary, it is a recommendation. The example above does not seem a problem. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 10:56, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Clarification of wording of Barbara's topic ban

Sandstein has closed the User:Barbara (WVS) ANI discussion with a topic ban worded "is topic-banned (WP:TBAN) from medical articles". Following discussion with Sandstein regarding the scope of that topic ban (User_talk:Sandstein#What_the_topic_ban_covers), it is felt that further wording is required. Therefore it is proposed that the wording of the topic ban is amended to read:

"By consensus of the community, Barbara (WVS) (talk · contribs), also editing as Bfpage (talk · contribs), is topic-banned (WP:TBAN) from health and medical topics, including anatomy and sexuality, broadly construed, and is also banned from interacting with Flyer22 (talk · contribs) (WP:IBAN)."

As you took place in the discussion, please visit Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/Incidents#Proposal_for_clarification_of_scope_of_topic_ban to give your views. SilkTork (talk) 08:45, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

About the state of Goulash(editing and citation)

Hi!
Thank you for replying to my edit!(did it from emotions my bad)

I'm very sorry to say, but i cannot find a reliable source about 'gulyás' [see: goulash in english] in any english website. As a native i defintely know what is the dish 'gulyás'. And i can provide you hungarian resources. But apperently coming from a mistake the whole english culture revolves around it being a stew. Not emotionally but realitically(?) this bothers me, i'm sure you can understand it. While there may be versions which are 'thicker' or contain 'less' liquid or even could be eaten with a fork. The original dish is made and functions as a soup. I'd very much like to advance this as at least the Wikipedia article will be more than sort of correct, but i don't have the tools for it.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Sincerly,

alias:Jack Paladin — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.225.199.244 (talk) 23:03, 26 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear 84.225.199.244 aka Jack Paladin. Welcome to Wikipedia I hope you like editing here. As I noted on your talk page when you made your edit to Goulash, one of the key aspects is verifiability through reliable sources. I can empathize that you find it difficult to find English sources that state goulash/gulyás is a soup and only a soup. The reality is that this Hungarian dish is made in many countries in different ways. I know that it is a faux pas to call gulyás a stew in Hungary, but in looking at main goulash articles in the Hungarian, German, Russian, and Polish Wikipedia they all make references the stew aspect of the dish. Your edit eliminated stew all together. Keeping soup and stew only seem sensible. Feel free to gather consensus for a change at the talk page for Goulash at Talk:Goulash, or by talking to editors from Wikipedia:WikiProject Hungary or Wikipedia:WikiProject Food and drink. WP:Translate is always there if you need translation help. Wikipedia:Teahouse if you have general editing questions. I would encourage you to make an account. Sorry if I didn't answer the questions in the exact right way. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 00:13, 27 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear@Classicwiki:, I've never heard the goulash being a traditional dish in other countries, let alone thought of it. I was in the wrong thinking it came from Hungary and conquered Europe. But it sort of like a lingue franca is not that linear to be described.I very much apprecite you taking the time and sending me this well-detalied respnose, it enlightened my views over the dish. I have an account but i didn't wanted to mix things after i already made the aforenamed atrocity. Again thank you for your concern and time! Best wishes, Jack Paladin

Regarding Murdoch

“unreferenced speculation”? How about at least 6 realible suicide accounts, 2 background accounts, and several books are websites referring to these? If you are seriously interested in unbiased research into this please check the Murdoch website for more information and references. It dispels several myths (such as his dog Rigel and being drunk stories) but also acknowledges it is highly likely an officer shot passengers and himself and at present there is no evidence to eliminate Murdoch from the candidates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.254.234.183 (talk) 06:10, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear 149.254.234.183 at that time your previous edits were reverted so there was no source for your addition. Now things have been restored, I can see your citations. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 06:15, 28 March 2018 (UTC)

Acknowledgment of prior messages

Hey Classicwiki! I just wanted to apologize for not noticing your messages and warnings beforehand, and only reading them at a point where it had become too late. I just wanted to thank you nonetheless for trying to reach out to me. It was not my intention to add information that came off as commentary- and I will be more mindful of the rules of editing pages such as this. As I am new to Wikipedia, I had not realized just how strict the rules are, and what potentially breaches the rules. I will make sure to me more careful about my edits in the future. As a person connected to the Hassan family, my intention was only to polish some information- and make some edits before the Google Doodle honoring Nazia's birthday was launched. As no edits can be made at this point, my humble request is for you to change Nazia Hassan's picture to "Nazia Hassan, in her youth.jpg"- which represents, and is more becoming of her. It coincides with her doodle, and is a family favorite that we all hope to employ to represent her on this day of her birthday. I hope you consider this request on behalf of me, and the Hassan family. In case you do, thank you so very much. All the best with everything! Sachaud (talk) 05:40, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

Sachaud, it's ok, it happens. There "guidelines" on Wikipedia, you're not expected to know them all, but adhering to the WP:PILLARS is a great place to start. There were lot of statements made in your edits that were problematic, mainly they were not sourced and appeared to be not neutral. Providing references is key to your additions. The "Nazia Hassan, in her youth.jpg" is likely a copyrighted image and most likely going to be deleted eventually. Additionally, the caption for that image appears to engage in WP:Puffery. Finally, you acknowledge your connection to the Hassan family. I would advise you not to edit Nazia's or her brothers pages unless you have another editor to look at it, additionally you must state if you are being paid for your work, as per Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. I have left a message on your talk page to that effect as well. Feel free to contribute in other areas though! Happy editing, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 18:11, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

Mirza Ismail

Hi Classicwiki Am afraid the listing is incorrect I am from the family the changes I made should be in chronological order staring from Mirza Ismail's first position in the Kingdom of mysore, then to Jaipur and finally to Hyderabad. In addition you have taken away the name of the Monarch Sawai Man Singh II who appointed him personally and you need to have the Monarchs name there as you do in the other two posts. In addition his name is already mentioned on the page and MAHARAJA is spelt incorrectly Maharajah is wrong

A large postion of this page is incorrect and I will be changing a great deal on it as much is factually inaccurate. I just need to figure how this works though any guidance would be welcome. Thank You — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ggsmi (talkcontribs) 02:36, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Classicwiki Am afraid the listing is incorrect I am from the family the changes I made should be in chronological order, which they are not.

I am the one who made the original post on wikipedia and someone has been allowed to change it . He ie:Mirza Ismail's first position was in the Kingdom of mysore, then to Jaipur and finally to Hyderabad. In addition you have taken away the name of the Monarch Sawai Man Singh II who appointed him personally and you need to have the Monarchs name there as you do in the other two posts.

Dear Ggsmi, it appears that you are new to editing Wikipedia. First, welcome! It is tough getting used to all the text that appears when you start editing a page. Your edits broke several links, removed headers, grammar issues, and was largely unsourced. I left a message on your talk page that should give you the basic instructions on how to start editing. You say that there are issues with the order of precedence and honorifics for Mirza Ismail's page. If you can provide sources for your reasoning, your edits might be accepted. Finally, you say you are related to Mirza Ismail. Generally, editors should avoid contributing to pages that they have a connection to. I would advise you not to edit Ismail's pages unless you have another editor look at it, as per Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines. Let me know if you have any questions. Or head over to Wikipedia:Teahouse, which is a great place to go to if you have editing questions. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 03:52, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

There's a discussion on ANI right now about an editor who had removed that content, which they maintain, and I agree, is a BLP violation. Whether that editor is the one you reverted remains to be seen (I don't think it is), but even if it's a vandal or a troll, it's always worth looking carefully to see if maybe they had a point. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 23:28, 17 April 2018 (UTC)

Hey Drmies, thanks for leaving a message. Are you asking me to participate in that ANI thread? If so, can you provide a link? Can't seem to find an open ANI about Miki Howard. As for why I reverted that one editor on Miki Howard's page is because that editor was on a deletion spree, deleting large amounts of articles in less than 30 sec. It was hard keep up. I used the appropriate warning templates, asking the user to explain their removal but to no avail. Hope that makes sense as to why I reverted. Let me know about the ANI. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 03:38, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Nope, not asking you to do anything--more an FYI, and a little prod to look twice when reverting. The ANI thread is not about the editor you reverted (I know that for sure now), nor is it about the article: it is about the editor Hillbillyholiday, currently the next-to-last section on ANI. That editor (via an IP) removed that information in the first place. Thanks, Drmies (talk) 04:05, 18 April 2018 (UTC)

LIPIA

Hi Classicwiki,

I'm just a reader of Wiki and by chance came across LIPIA article in English.

Things that I've removed are false and to explain further will be a very long topic as it includes "madhab" "islam" "politics" and others.

Firstly, none of those which was claimed that I've removed, exist in LIPIA.

We have lecturers from Sudan, Syria, Egypt, Indonesia and others.

Students consist of majority Indonesians and minority from abroad such as China, Philippines, France, Singapore, Britain, Mali, Malaysia, Thailand and other countries.

There are no doctrines being taught but fundamentals of Islamic knowledge. Not to a specific Madhab "School of Thought" or inclination to support a country and others.

The first 2 years were the Arabic Language. The following year, Preparatory for Islamic Jurisprudence and the next 4 years were Islamic Jurisprudence which most people know as Sharia Law.

Secondly, the term Wahabi.

To understand this name-calling theme, you will need to read deeper to understand what is happening within the Muslim community.

Unfortunately, in reality, we have many different sects and each sects promotes their own style of ideology. And unfortunately, most of this sects claims to be part of the correct understanding branch called "Sunni" or "Ahlul Sunnah Wal Jamaah", where in reality, they are going the opposite direction either knowingly or unknowingly.

It could be due to fame, money and others. On the other end, we have the "Shia".

The reason for them (Shia) being labelled as problematic is due to their creed.

Islam are passed down with the correct understanding from the Messenger (Muhammad pbuh) and his companions.

What happens when a group starts cursing the companions of the Prophet and disbelieving in them.

Where will they get their Islamic knowledge from and how could their version (Shia) of Islam be correct when the source itself is doubtful as it came from a broken chain.

We also have the orientalist who tries to disrupt the Muslims (You can google that).

If you were to read up about Islam from non-Islamic universities, they mostly provides an incorrect teachings or promoting some ideology (i.e. Liberalism etc).

We wouldn't want to learn Medicine from an Engineering faculty do we?

To conclude this name-calling theme, it's a misinformation tactic to pull Muslims away from learning correctly.

Unfortunately, many academics have bought into the misinformation and they do not refer back to the senior scholars of Islam for clarifications.

Thirdly, the term Ikhwanul Muslimin.

This group of people have been confirmed by all Muslim countries as terrorist.

They promote the ideology of overtaking those in authority by revolutions.

It is banned in Saudi and almost all Muslim countries except Iran and Qatar.

You can Google "Khawarij".

In conclusion, LIPIA is just like any other institutions but it teaches Muslim to think and not be fed with misinformation.

Unfortunately, humans are complex where they are easily swayed by emotions and fake news and it does affect any students from any institutions.

Wiki is suppose to be like an Encyclopedia and if you do not support false information, kindly do not revert what I have removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.132.28.254 (talk) 01:38, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Cape figwort

Hi, according to my references (including trade publications and online sites), the term “cape figwort” is applied to both the genus Phygelius and to the species P. capensis and P. aequalis. So I thought it more useful for this page to be a disambig page, rsther than a redirect to P. capensis exclusively. Cheers Darorcilmir (talk) 21:30, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Reverted edits on use of force continuum.

The picture of the two U.S. Navy members (who's name and ranks are mentioned in full -and are completely unnoteworthy, and not mentioned anywhere else on the web) adds absolutely nothing to the article. It does not contribute to a readers' understanding of the article. The paragraph on the U.S. Navy is completely unnecessary, and contributes nothing to a readers' understanding of the concept of "use of force continuum". It reads like a not-so obvious product placement for the U.S. Navy. There is no reason to name-drop the United States Navy in this article -nor to provide the name and ranks of the men in the equally pointless photograph.

66.223.172.211, welcome to contributing to Wikipedia. I would encourage you to make an account. There are a few things I would like to address about your edit on use of force continuum. First, do you have any proof that the image and text in question is being used for advertising/product placement or any accounts associated with them are being promotional? The image is hosted on commons.wikimedia.org. The description of the image is literally taken from the description provided from the released photo which explicitly discusses use of force continuum. The user/bot that uploaded the image to Commons is not the same user who put the image into the article. The user who placed the image into the article does not seem to be the same user who placed the Navy paragraph. I find the paragraph to be relevant to the article's topic because it talks about a different use of force continuum. The very lede of the article states, "In some ways, [the use of force continuum] is similar to the U.S. military's escalation of force (EOF)." It emphasizes the appropriate nature of the Navy paragraph. If you want to take the names out of the image caption on the article page I won't object. If you find a more appropriate image on Commons feel free to add it to the article. In my point of view removing the image and the paragraph seems unwarranted. I added the {{globalize/US}} tag to the page to let readers know that this article does not have a global perspective. Hope that explains the reverts. Please let me know if you have questions and concerns. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 18:24, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Lemnos flag

Thanks for the revert and leaving the clear edit summary about this so I, and others, could be aware of the problem. There has been at least one vandal who has been making such edits from time to time. I have caught him a few times and others have as well. This time, the flag was identified in Commons as the Lemnos flag, which is why I rolled back my own revert. I was still suspicious and wondered whether the item was planted in Commons by the disruptive editor. If so, it was dated a few years ago, giving it some color of legitimacy. This takes this type of disruptive editing to whole new level and we need to keep alert to the "flag vandal," meaning we may need to check beyond Commons to see if the item is valid. When a user starts changing flags of countries, states, cities or other entities, or inserting new ones, suspicion needs to be raised. Thanks for picking up on this. Donner60 (talk) 03:58, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Donner60, I too have noticed a flag vandal. Although not official, CRW Flags database is a great place to start outside of Wikipedia/Wikimedia. What was strange is that on the Lemnos' edit, the flag read "Flag of Lemnos" in the description and "Bandera de Atuntaqui" on Commons. To me that means they are trying to deliberately deceive. Will keep a look out. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 17:08, 2 May 2018 (UTC)

Soy sauce spelling correction

All I corrected was the spelling of A. tamari to A. tamarii. Why did you revert the changes? It had no citation to begin with. Here is a source using the correct spelling: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC239590/

Hey 97.70.209.117, I reverted changes because it looked a little like vandalism and the change was unsourced. Always good to include sources on updates. Junot Diaz edit

Classicwiki, I am responding to your message. Thanks for your review of this.

You stated that I made an un-constructive edit to the Junot Diaz page.

My edit consisted of removing material that had NO citations. When making this edit, I wrote in the edit summary "Citations needed, please" Please check this for yourself.

This is fully consistent with BLP policy which requires CITATIONS for any major factual assertions, and editing protocol which requires a brief, accurate edit summary.

I therefore must ask you...what portion of my edit was "un-constructive?"

However another editor, who makes approx. 200 Huggle edits per day, FAILED to read my edit summary...and then CLAIMED that there was no edit summary. Please send that other editor the polite note which you sent to me...since their edit might be the one that needs it.

Thanks again for your follow-up, and please feel free to respond if you wish. All the best.

198.232.63.61, thanks for leaving a message and editing Wikipedia. I encourage you to make an account and to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~)! You're right major changes to BLP articles should be sourced. I would encourage you to review Wikipedia's referencing for beginners help page to improve your referencing style. With regards to your removal of the awards on Diaz's page. Many of the awards are sourced higher up, in the prose of the article. Not every single line of every page needs to be followed by a reference multiple times. If you think some of the awards are suspect, please bring that to attention. Your removal was disruptive to me because you are removing sourced content. Let me know if there are any concerns or questions. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 23:26, 10 May 2018 (UTC)

SFASU - Stone Fort Museum

Good afternoon - I am new to editing and apologize for misunderstanding the process. I think that you reverted an edit I just entered regarding the Stone Fort Museum on the page for SFASU. I didn't enter a new citation for the text that I updated because I wrote the paper that is cited and the existing text is misleading. The Stone Fort Museum on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University was built in 1936 and is a Texas State Landmark structure. It is a replica of a stone house built by Antonio Gil Y'Barbo between 1788 and 1791 (not 1779). The existing text states that it was rebuilt but the sentence begins with "Old Stone Fort Museum built in 1779..." This may seem like a quibble, but many visitors to the museum arrive with the incorrect notion that they are about to tour an 18th century structure. It leads to misunderstandings and disappointment. The museum is a gem of the campus built in 1936 as part of the Texas Centennial celebration and as a memorial to a building that was torn down in 1902. It should be celebrated as the Stone Fort Museum built in 1936. Finally, I removed the "Old" in the name because the museum has not used the name "Old Stone Fort Museum" for 30 years. It remains in print and on the web and is very difficult to eliminate. Why eliminate? Because there was an Old Stone Fort. It was not a museum, and was torn down in 1902. In order to interpret the original house while also discussing the current structure, the buildings need to have different names. editing

Thank you for replying. I am new to editing and will have to learn the rules. Editing is limited to correcting errors by providing a reference if I understand correctly?

Peter Peterandrew47 (talk) 15:04, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Dear Peterandrew47, welcome to editing Wikipedia! Sorry that some of your initial efforts were reverted. Wikipedia has quite a few "guidelines" but there are no firm rules. I reverted them because it appeared you removed content that was well sourced. It is ok and standard to include scholarly criticism/analysis of religious topics as it is in line with Wikipedia's neutral point of view on the subject matter. If you believe the content is undue consider bringing it up on the article's talk page.
If you still have questions, there is a new contributors' help page, or you can place the {{helpme}} tag on your talk page along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly.
I have left a message on your talk page with the basics of Wikipedia. Additionally, I see that some of your first edits deal with articles on Christianity. Be sure to sign all posts using four tildes. You might want to visit WP:Christianity, where you will find a whole community of users dedicated to improving Christian-related articles. I hope you continue to contribute constructively! Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 06:01, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

Gwendoline Christie

My change to her page was verified through companieshouse.com. I cited it. Further, the prior change, listing an incorrect full name for the actress was 'verified' through a pay site which is no longer in existence. As a fan of the actress, I changed the page and cited companieshous, however, my change was undone.

What was the problem and why is wiki using changes and verification to support pay sites?

Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MikkiMichelleM (talkcontribs) 01:43, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello MikkiMichelleM, thank you for contributing to Wikipedia. Seems like you edit was in good faith, apologies to the revert. The citation you provided was also a dead link (for me at least). I may revert again and try to find a more official reliable source. I encourage you to review Wikipedia's citing sources guideline for questions about paywalled sites and how to improve citation styles. Hope you continue to contribute constructively! I am a native Asante. We are known as Asante people in our language. Ashanti is an anglicised form of the name Asante and never exists within the Twi language. I suggest this edit should be respected as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kaykak (talkcontribs) 22:21, 9 July 2018 (UTC)

The only written confirmation of this closure are internet blogs and Gothamist..

Dear 96.242.234.85, thank you for contributing to Wikipedia! I can see that your edits are in good faith. I would encourage you to create an account. Anecdotal evidence and Reddit unfortunately do not comply with reliable sourcing. I could not find any mention of the balcony in the Gotamist article. I removed the balcony information from the Institute's article page until a secondary source can be found as that sentence was unsourced as well. The main reason your edit was reverted is because the link you provided was improperly added as a citation please consider reviewing WP:CS so that future helpful edits aren't at risk of being removed. Dear 2600:6C50:7006:400:1541:C156:4D34:A295, consider reading over the links I have provided on your talk page/over WP:RS. How is a reader to identify that the script is authentic? Best, 04:58, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

I would like to know: Under which objective, legal standard is:

A. Paying for a ticket to an event.

B. Attending said event.

C. Sitting quietly during said event

D. Not engaging the performers in said event in any way, shape or form until they engage you

Considered "targeted harassment." There are countless videos on YouTube that show what really happened at VidCon and Wikipedia's continued insistence on denying objective reality in favor of citing sources that read "Drinking male tears" is intellectual treason. I can only imagine that this is being done for ideological reasons and nothing having to do with the reality of the situation. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:101:8202:1B80:D07C:AC20:13AA:F30B (talk) 05:00, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

2600:6C50:7006:400:1541:C156:4D34:A295, I don't quite understand the nature of the accusations you are making. Imgur links of photographs of script covers do not constitute a reliable source, nor does anecdotal evidence. Please consider viewing WP:RS. If you feel like you are being unfairly treated, please consider contacting an administrator. If you can find additional secondary sources I can work with you in correcting these dates. KRISS Vector

The user that keeps removing information from that article is the same one who kept changing it to this (diff on the left) before. Given the name he kept adding to the page seemed quiet distinctive I checked up on it, it appears this guy is actually not all there in the head and credits himself with inventing other random things including Dragon Ball. Bones Jones (talk) 09:40, 13 August 2018 (UTC)

My name is Kristopher Ryan Sprayberry and yes i keep removing what's been said about how the KRISS in the KRISS Vector comes from.. How dumb do you have to be to really think that an American company that has ties to the US military is gonna use a name from a Indonesian knife(kris)..Not to mention their not even spelled the same.. So here's the deal, back when i was in high school after i to the ASVAB, i was talking to a Marine Recruiter. I drew up a few ideas i had and showed them to the Recruiter. A couple of the things i showed him was a ruff draft blueprint of recoil mitigation technology , the KRISS Vector, and the KAP.40. I never got any of those drawings back, and people went behind my back and got patents on the ideas.I came up with the KRISS by taking the first four letters of my first name, and the first letter of my last name. Now i do have witness's who were there and seen do this..the Marine Recruiter, The Teacher whose class i was in, as well as some of my classmates in that class, a student teacher at the time (i do believe) who was just out of the Navy. Now it doesn't matter if anyone believes what i'm saying.. Doesn't mean i'm not telling the truth.. All one has to do is look in the right places and ask the right Questions. Now seeing how i had just took my ASVAB and was talking to a Marine Recruiter, there should be some record of this.. especially when the Military was trying to Recruit me for the development of experimental and prototype weapons. But for some dumb reason, no one seems to wanna looks into this and think they know what's really going on or the truth.. Now as for the tweets, I know exactly what i said, and yes i know there's gonna be alot of people who think i'm of my rocker, but doesn't mean that is what's going on.. I really love it how people who weren't their for things, didn't witness anything, only know what has been relayed to them, know what the truth is..When all their info is second hand("believe nothing your hear, only half of what you see, and a quarter of what your told and question everything"). But one thing all you ignorant week minded fools need to realize, I have no reason to make this up, I have no reason to create some bullshit story, I have no reason to put myself out there like that when people are gonna call me crazy or what ever, unless there is truth to what i'm saying.. it's just none of you believe it.. And remember, what you believe to be truth has no relevance on what is the truth..
The action was patented by a French firearm designer, Renaud Kerbrat, in 2003, and is derived from a target pistol invented a hundred years ago (even though he denies that). It's odd that he doesn't mention ever speaking to some random USMC recruiter, or for that matter ever working with the US Marine Corps at all. TDI / KRISS USA isn't an "American company," TDI was established as the US arm of Gamma Applied Visions Group which is a Swiss company established by Jan Henrik Jebsen in 2002. Their "connections" started out with Jebsen meeting Timothy C. Lindsay, a retired Army Colonel, who had friends at ARDEC, but he met him in Novemeber 2002 while Kerbrat's patents were filed in June. There is no possible way that what you're saying happened could have happened.
If you have no proof of your claims, they don't belong on the page. We can source people saying it's named after a Javan kris, you on the other hand are spinning out a fantasy minus any particulars (names, dates) which would allow us to check up on it. Also why the hell would TDI steal the idea, still name it after you, but never say it's named after you?
Not to mention the odd timing of you being in high school when you invented something that was patented in 2003, yet you were apparently also around in the 80s to invent Dragon Ball. Are we supposed to believe you were held back for three or four decades?
Also, "the Military was trying to Recruit me for the development of experimental and prototype weapons?" Weapon designers aren't generally recruited into the military, they work for civilian companies like Raytheon or BAE. Your story is utter bunk. Bones Jones (talk) 07:08, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

Unnao dead bodies row Cause

Earlier, on the page Unnao dead bodies row, I changed the cause from "Unknown" to "Unknown, but likely multiple", which you then reverted, as you thought its meaning was unclear.

Just so you know, I had been thinking along the lines of "Even though postmortem was not possible, those people could not have all died from the same cause (e.g. natural causes, homicide) or even means (e.g. sepsis, knife wound), since there were over a hundred of them." Hope that clears it up.

P.S.: By the way, I actually made two changes in that edit: the "Causes" one, and the removal of the page from Category:Unidentified people (since the page already was in Category:Unidentified decedents). So in the future, you might want to try something like this Wiktionary edit revert, in which not only were the edits reverted, but the etymologies were also consolidated, although that consolidation, as shown in this later edit, was also a mistake, albeit a minor one. (Disclaimer: I did not make either of those two anonymous edits.) 128.172.245.75 (talk) 17:30, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

128.172.245.75, thanks for letting me know your reasoning. It is reasonable to suggest that there was possibly more than one cause of death in this scenario. Despite this "likely multiple" feels editorial and slightly confusing. "Unknown" should be sufficient and all encompassing in my opinion because we do not know for sure given the sources provided. Thanks for the tip! Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 13:41, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

MUSE School page edits

Hi there,

I received a talk message from you in regards to changing the information on the MUSE School page. Hello 12.18.189.83, thank you for trying to contribute to Wikipedia and make information more accurate. While I believe you are acting in good faith, I have no way of confirming if you are the director. Additionally, contributing to pages that may or may not be paying you is probably a violation of conflict of interest guidelines on Wikipedia. I have left you a general message on this IP account's talk page about how to manage conflicts of interest. I would encourage you to make an account and be clear about your conflicts of interest in pages that you chose to contribute to. Please also see the guide for reliable sourcing. If you need help navigating these waters feel free to head to Wikipedia's help desk or letting me know (although I may be slow to respond). Peace in Islamic philosophy: Revision history

Salaam Classicwiki, Salaam in Arabic means Peace, plain and simple, it does not mean pacified or submitted. I hope you can reconsider your post. Also reference [2] does not exist! link broken! may be it should be removed as well as text citing it. Finally Allah in Arabic means God, the one God. I don't see how this is less than neutral since it is a Quranic definition!! if you like you can say, according to the Quran Allah is the one God. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.164.102.94 (talk) 01:21, 26 November 2018 (UTC) MB — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.164.102.94 (talk) 01:05, 26 November 2018 (UTC)

Omar Raja's article

Thanks for checking in on that article. It was heavily promotional before so I had to rewrite it from scratch, coming from the outsider perspective since I don't even subscribe to or read Instagrams except for checking Wikipedia references. If there's stuff that still sounds like peacock, please tag those sentences and I'll try to neutralize that tone. That guy has had a lot of coverage from major news media. As for your question on whether House of Highlights should be a separate article, the answer is no, they are synonymous. He's been the main content creator for that Instagram so the work revolves around him. I think he and Bernstein (the guy who hired him) lead a team of 8-10 people. AngusWOOF (barksniff) 23:48, 28 November 2018 (UTC)

Apologies for the AfD AngusWOOF. I didn't say separate article into two, just that there should be some delineation between Raja and HoH within the article. To me, the fact that HoH has become a property with managament and a team means the two are no longer synonymous, because it is a shared channel, even if he is central. However, that is just a minor concern. Great job pairing down the promo. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 03:35, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

why are your reverting?

WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING? You are reverting without explanation and then threatening to ban me if I don't accept your reversion. Come on, dude! I told you I explain the deletion on the talk page. If you think it's wrong, please justify. Otherwise, wtf are you doing?

Hello, 198.27.150.168. All caps messages isn't going to make your point more compelling. Your mass deletions at corporation has been the topic of concern for many editors. I recommend that you make your case at the talk page of the article and wait for consensus for such large-scale deletions. If you continue to edit war and delete information, you are likely to be blocked. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 19:06, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

I like USING CAPS! IS IT ILLEGAL HERE TO USE CAPS? How long do I need to wait if no one responds?

198.27.150.168, it is generally seen as rude and not advised on Wikipedia, see: WP:SHOUTING. I do not know when people will respond on the talk page, but it might take some time. Additionally, instead of mass deleting content you could edit constructively through the use of reliable sources and citations. Feel free to create an account and use the sandbox. Finally, could you confirm that you are not Buddylovely? Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 19:19, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

What? I don't know what you're talking about. I explained the deletion on the talk page and then deleted ONE sentence (I'm not shouting). Then I explained the next deletion, again ONE sentence. So I have no idea what you're talking about. Again: How long do I need to wait if no one replies. Can we say one week and I'm good to go, so Dec. 14?

198.27.150.168, I highly recommend that you go through Wikipedia:Tutorial. If you want faster, more reliable assistance, I would recommend heading to the Help desk. I am concerned about your edit history and actions. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 19:36, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

I am concerned that you have not answered my question: How long do I need to wait to delete the section if no one replies to my talk page comments? Please answer this question. Is it a week a month or what?

198.27.150.168, that is not for me to decide. Please see: WP:Consensus, which other editors have asked you to reach. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 19:41, 7 December 2018 (UTC)

Again, what are you talking about. No one except you has asked me to reach a consensus. Regardless, IF no one responds to my comments (I want to put this all in caps, but I won't) how long do I need to wait? I will repeat the question: If no one responds, how long do I need to wait?

198.27.150.168, again I don't decide when people will respond, when consensus will be reached. You have been warned many times in your talk page, which you continually blank to hide past warnings. You have been directed to the talk page many times. I will not entertain this conversation any further, but be mindful that continuous mass changes at corporations without consensus or reliable sources will likely lead to a block. Again, if no one responds, how long do I need to wait? Warned about what, dude, give me a break. I blank it so it's clean, weirdo--it's not friendly to be so accusatory. Learn some manners.

Take part in a survey

Hi Classicwiki

We're working to measure the value of Wikipedia in economic terms. We want to ask you some questions about how you value being able to edit Wikipedia.

Our survey should take about 10-15 minutes of your time. We hope that you will enjoy it and find the questions interesting. All answers will be kept strictly confidential and will be anonymized before the aggregate results are published. Regretfully, we can only accept responses from people who live in the US due to restrictions in our grant-based funding.

As a reward for your participation, we will randomly pick 1 out of every 5 participants and give them $25 worth of goods of their choice from the Wikipedia store (e.g. Wikipedia themed t-shirts). Note that we can only reward you if you are based in the US.

Click here to access the survey: https://mit.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eXJcEhLKioNHuJv

Paradox Press

Hello...interestingly, I seem to have just received a notification that a change I made to the Paradox Press page in April of last year was backed out - apparently by you? - saying the change "did not appear constructive".

The change was that I added a title to the list of Paradox Press' published comics, "Remarkable Worlds Of Phineas B. Fuddle", which was missing from the list. How is adding a missing title >not< constructive? It's an omission - the title is clearly published by Paradox and wasn't on the list - and I fixed that.

If you need to see the book, a link with the cover is here: [1]

Thanks

Dear 174.2.95.71, it would be difficult for me to give you an answer as to why reverted your insert on that page. It was likely because the page is already poorly sourced and your insertion did not come with a citation, for which I should have issued a different warning on your talk page. Feel free to re-insert, but I would recommend citing a more reliable source. Thank you for contributing! Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 23:43, 14 February 2019 (UTC)

Recent changes in Hungarian language

Hi Classicwiki,

I had a message from you about my change in Hungarian language and that it had to be taken down. I do not recall changing any details in that topic. Could you please send me a message showing what I was changing?

Thank you very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.166.106.99 (talk) 02:33, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

Assistance editing Mark Lanier page

Hello, Classicwiki. I see that you have edited the Mark Lanier Wikipedia page in the past. Mark is a client of mine and I'd like to improve his article according to the suggestions in the banner at the top of his page. I've left a more detailed message explaining what I'd like to do on his talk page. Can you assist me? Thanks in advance for any help.

WriteJames, sorry just saw this. Seems like you are getting more help on the talk page than I could provide. Please let me know if that is not the case. Best of luck, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 01:40, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
Classicwiki I know it's been a while since my original message, but I thought I'd follow up. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get any assistance on getting the banners at the top of the Mark Lanier page removed, or information on what would need to happen for them to be removed. Any assistance or information would be much appreciated. WriteJames (talk) 22:23, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Hi WriteJames. It has been some time, so I had to catch up to speed on the page and issues in question before I could respond. I think the banners on top of the page are entirely appropriate for now. The truth is that a large part of the page has been made through COI edits. You are a paid client. Additionally, since you are a paid client you are not likely to provide an objective view of the person. Finally, the factual accuracy issue is addressed in talk page. My recommendation is to engage with that user and see what can be done to address their concerns. You can still request edits on the talk page to ask for changes as well. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 20:47, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Started a Wikiproject on Science Policy

Hi Classicwiki, I just wanted to let you know that the Wikiproject for Science Policy has been officially created! It's still a little bare, but with your assistance, I believe that we can make it real nice. I started it based off of the template suggested in the Wikiproject, so any edits are always welcome. I could use help with developing our first goals as well, so any suggestions are welcome! Also, if you're interested in being a participant, please list yourself in the Wikiproject homepage under the section for participants. Lightning1115 (talk) 03:44, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

About your creation of Faipule

Thanks for creating this disambiguation page! I wanted to leave some feedback for you to hopefully improve your process when writing these in the future. Firstly and most importantly, disambiguation pages are meant to be as concise as possible; they're not there to provide any actual information at all, which is the responsibility of the articles linked in the entries. What that means is no references — bring those over to the actual articles instead. Also, don't include more than one article link, as this might muddle which article is the one actually being disambiguated. I'd highly recommend you take another look at MOS:DAB to familiarize yourself with the conventions if you plan on writing any of these in the future, and feel free to let me know if you have any questions! Also pinging Vanderwaalforces, as they were also involved with this page recently. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 06:47, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

@TechnoSquirrel69, I remembered after the fact that disambs don't have refs. It has been a long time since I've made one. This one felt a little strange to navigate/create. Thanks for the feedback and I'll work harder to follow the MOS next time. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 06:57, 30 March 2024 (UTC)

Jahor12345

It is almost certainly a coincidence that arises only because of their common interest but you may wish to be reminded of banned editor TheCurrencyGuy. So far, I don't see the same "fist" in use (very little text contributed yet so not much to go on). But thought I should drop a heads-up although it is probably nothing. 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 23:17, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

@JMF, wow Jahor12345 has added a lot more to Wikipedia than yesterday. Unfortunately, nearly all of it is unsourced. I've already tried to leave talk page messages and encourage citation. Additionally, many edits are not inline with Wikipedia's style. The user has broken some infoboxes.
I don't know anything about TheCurrencyGuy, do you think this warrants an SPI?
On the surface the edits indicate a person that might be new to Wikipedia. I am trying not to bite the newbie. I don't want to comb through every edit either What do you think the best course of action is? Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 00:53, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
I don't see enough evidence yet for an SPI, just that it is rare to see such near-obsessive interest in the minutiae of currencies. It might be the same person but it probably isn't; I just thought you might want to be aware of the coincidence.
Likewise, I think it is too early for an WP:ANI referral, as the errors are not remarkable for a newbie. What is remarkable is their sheer volume. I have sampled a few and, as you say, they are uncited but not obviously wrong. IMO, in fact, the fault lies in whoever created the infoboxes with such a plethora of pettifogging detail. Who did they think was going to keep it maintained? Or verified?
To cut to the chase, I really have no idea how to handle such cases, I failed miserably with TCG, so I can only suggest a question at the WP: Teahouse. Maybe there is a tool that limits an editor to n edits/day? 𝕁𝕄𝔽 (talk) 08:01, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
@JMF, the user has started to edit currency pages just FYI. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 17:25, 3 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi there

You made a mistake on retail apocalypse. Southwest VA and Northeast TN are ALWAYS the first to close the retail stores. I know it, I live in Kingsport, TN. It sucks, I basically have NOTHING in my area. When a store goes bankrupt. Guess what? I'm first in line! If everybody were aware about the loophole called "adult adoption":

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adult_adoption

Then, I would be in a better city with someone else who can actually afford it and still have physical stores. As you are not aware, adult adoption can give you new parents. Unfortunately, I am 26 and I missed my chance.

Why is it my area always comes first? 216.145.66.227 (talk) 21:58, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

I GAVE TV Tropes as the source to mention Henry's lack of plot relevance. There's a mention on the YMMV section there that the subplot with Henry Bowers doesn't really have real effect on the plot of the story and the characters section has him where you can see he was demoted to extra. 2001:56A:F8E4:BE00:F17D:6130:9337:E79 (talk) 07:36, 6 April 2024 (UTC)

Kyiv/Kiev

Hello @Classicwiki! I noticed that you reverted this edit to the article on Askold and Dir, where the IP user 176.36.226.109 corrected "Kiev" to "Kyiv", and you even left a message on his user talk page labeling the edit as "not contructive". May I ask you why? After all, the Wikipedia article on the city uses Kyiv as the primary spelling, so the edit seems perfectly logical and constructive to me. Sincerely, Nikolaj1905 (talk) 09:50, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Nikolaj1905, if you notice they broke the link to image in the article through their edit. There are a large number of IP editors that use the find and replace function to change articles without realizing the issues they leave behind (not saying that is what exactly happened here). Additionally, WP:UAPLACE might be of interest to you. Best, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 16:11, 12 April 2024 (UTC)

Deadsy: Bassists contributions

Hey, @Classicwiki! I noticed that you reverted [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commencement_(album)&diff=1218700108&oldid=1218644796 this edit] to the article on Deadsy's debut record Commencement. You later then told me (I was an IP user when I edited the page) it didn't have a reliable source, so let me break it down for you, to understand it well. Craig Riker (The Beast) joined in 1998, later playing the songs, First the title-track "Commencement", "She Likes Big Words" and "Seagulls", "Le Cirque En Rose", "The Key To Gramercy Park", "Winners", "Brand New Love" (sebadoh cover), Tom Sawyer (a cover by Rush), "Mansion World" (i guess). Ashburn Miller (Creature) didn't record anything from Commencement, because he joined in 2002, which was after the recording of Commencement, circa 96-01. However, on some of the tracks off the earlier version of their record (Deadsy/Self-tilted), which evolved from Commencement, Elijah Blue's friend, Jay Gordon played on the tracks, "Flowing Glower," "Future Years," and "Cruella". And Elijah (yes, Elijah, because he split he bass duties with Jay) played bass on "Lake Waramaug", and "The Elements". Linkornizkittie2010 (talk) 18:52, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Ramon Llull

Hi, Classicwiki. You informed me about removing a minor change which I had just introduced, concerning the names of Ramon Llull's children. You were asking for references to back my changes, in spite of my having included an explanation after my change, which seemed sufficient. Whoever had included the names in Spanish was wrong and disingenuous, and is the one that should have been asked references to support that. As explained in my comment, which you presumably read, Spanish was not spoken in the Balearic Islands until centuries later.

Ramon Llull was the son of a Catalan married couple from Barcelona. They all spoke Catalan and Ramon works were mostly written in Catalan and Latin. You shouldn't need any reference to prove that, really, as it is all widely known. Still, if you want some references, you can check those already provided by someone else at the end of the edited sentence: references 9 and 10, both in Catalan, which are sure to refer to Domènec and Magdalena Llull by their actual, historical, well documented names. 2804:431:CFFC:6304:5550:102F:27FF:881B (talk) 04:13, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello 2804:431:CFFC:6304:5550:102F:27FF:881B, I did check refence "9" prior to reverting your edit. It says, "Domingo i Magdalena" and not Domènec. Wikipedia articles should refer only to facts and interpretations verified in reliable, reputable print or online sources or in other reliable media. Always provide a reliable source for names, quotations, and for any material that is likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. Edit summaries do not qualify as a reliable source. Your edits have been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so.
If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to The Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have and help you with your edits.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! I encourage you to create an account. Thanks, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 04:24, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer, Classicwiki, and OK, let's leave it like that. You checked things right and I doubled-checked. It does seem that, for some reason, his son is recorded or referred to as Domingo, in Spanish, while his daughter was recorded as Magdalena, in Catalan (though it is also Magdalena in Spanish). And these are references in Catalan, we are talking about. It seemed very unlikely since the Catalan name is Domènec, and I am still going to question the use of Domingo, but won't insist here. The boy must have been named after saint Dominic, who was a Castilian and therefore named Domingo in Castilian (i.e. Spanish). In spite of the saint being known in Catalan as St Domènec, some factors may explain why Llull's son might have been named or recorded as Domingo, but I won't go into this here, as it would get too long. 2804:431:CFFC:6304:5550:102F:27FF:881B (talk) 07:16, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Ramon Llull's entry - second issue

You seem to have also undone a correction of mine in the introduction, regarding the language used by Ramon Llull. Someone had put there "Balearic Catalan", but that is wrong (and disingenuous again, which I can explain also, if you can afford the time to talk Spanish politics since the Spanish Civil War of 1936-39).

Balearic Catalan is not even a dialect of Catalan. It refers to the various dialects of Catalan, each spoken on a different island. These dialects didn't exist during Ramon Llull's lifetime. Llull was born in 1232, barely 3 years after Mallorca's conquest and colonization (1229). Minorca would only be colonized in 1287, when Llull was in his mid-fifties. Catalan spoken back then in the Balearic Islands was the same that had been just brought to them from eastern Catalonia.

This is all basic stuff for anyone familiar with the Catalan language and/or medieval history of the western Mediterranean. Could you please leave my correction and maybe ask next time, before undoing something you are not knowlegeable in? As a matter of common sense and to save us all precious time? Thank you! Please be aware that other people like me, editing things that need be corrected, won't even notice that their work was just undone. 2804:431:CFFC:6304:5550:102F:27FF:881B (talk) 05:00, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello, this is a very patronizing message to leave. I will reiterate: Wikipedia also has a related policy against including original research in articles. Edit summaries do not qualify as a reliable source. Always provide a reliable source. Your edits have been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so.
If you are stuck and looking for help, please see the guide for citing sources or come to The Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have and help you with your edits.
I encourage you to create an account. Thanks, Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 05:12, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your answer, Classicwiki, and sorry if my answer sounded patronizing to you, but it seemed rather factual to me.
I am overworked and never edit Wikipedia or Wiktionary lightly. It's not a hobby for me. I don't have time for that in spite of making a lot of use of these tools, often seeing mistakes and biases.
It is just surprising to me, that someone who isn't knowlegeable in some field, will jump in, out of nowhere, and undo changes just like that, without even asking.
What references to you want me to propose? I suppose you are aware of the difficulty in disproving something that doesn't exist. If you believe in Bigfoot, how am I to prove you it doesn't exist?
You mention a policy that original research cannot be included, but I never did that. You also say that edit summaries do not qualify as reliable sources, but what I am asking is for you to check that information, not just to believe it. If you are acting in some sort of proofreader capacity (?), just check the information provided. Where else can I provide it than the edit summary? What I was telling you can easily be checked in Wikipedia:
1) 1229 as date of conquest and colonization of Majorca by Catalans;
2) 1232-33 as Llull's birthyear, from parents who came from Catalonia (Barcelona to be precise), like everybody else;
3) 1287 as date of conquest and colonization of Minorca by Catalans;

Etc.
I don't even know where to start, if it becomes a fastidious matter of "proving" to you that it is pure nonsense to speak of "mallorquí", "menorquí" or "eïvissenc" (i.e. the Catalan dialects of Majorca, Minorca, and Eïvissa+Formentera respectively) in the 13th century, or "valencià" in València (conquered and colonized starting in 1238). How would you want me to prove that William Shakespeare didn't exactly speak Cockney? 2804:431:CFFC:6304:5550:102F:27FF:881B (talk) 08:07, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Sock list

Classicwiki, I believe there are many more socks, most already blocked, as can be seen by looking at my 'disclaimer' and reading the history of the articles there, e.g. at Gimli we have user:Happydays924, user:Butthaha12345, user:Bootyfart121 (and some IPs too). Each of the other characters has more: it would be good to know if these are all the same people, and whether those addresses can then be permanently blocked from account creation (it might be IP ranges). I don't know a lot about how SPI works but I suspect it's a very narrow check so it may be best to give them all we can. Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:05, 15 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi @Chiswick Chap. You should note that your disclaimer might be removed by another editor as it may not meet Wikipedia standards (I'm unclear on this). user:Happydays924 has been added to the current SPI -- but they are already blocked. user:Butthaha12345 and user:Bootyfart121 have been already addressed, you can see the archive here. IP addresses are a little tricky because they mostly can not be blocked forever. However they can be added to an SPI. Feel free to report or let me know if you see any more! Um, I was just giving you an example from one Middle-earth character: I expect there are more at each of the others. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 18:17, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
@Chiswick Chap, understood. I've went through a lot of the character articles when I made my report and many others have been reported. I wish we could just have protection for all LOTR-related articles for a time, but unlikely to get support for that. I suspect this is going to be a long-standing issue. False Accusation of Sockpuppetry

The IP server that was blocked at the same time as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jahor12345 is not connected. Both were editing simultaneously on different articles during the morning of 3rd April 2024. The IP server began with detailed edits about the Egyptian pound, and then around noon, switched over to British currency in the Middle East. Meanwhile, editor Jahor12345 was editing across a wide range of currency topics, mainly reformatting. The editing styles are completely different. The IP server carried out edits at 1204hrs and 1206hrs, while Jahor12345 carried out an edit in the middle of that two minute period at 1205hrs. They couldn't possibly be the same person. 81.134.217.27 (talk) 13:36, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

BLP violations on Martin Nowak's page

Hi,

I saw you undid my edit on Martin Nowak’s page.

My edit was to delete factually inaccurate and biased sentences about Nowak’s association with Jeffrey Epstein from the lead.

Factually inaccurate: "...as a punishment for having provided an office, keycard, and passcode, and for allowing Epstein free and unlimited access to the university's campus ten years after his conviction for sex crimes". The Harvard report only mentions a keycard. Nowak was not blamed for "providing an office" as this was known and approved by the university. No passcode is ever discussed. PED was not on university campus. Thus Epstein never had "free and unlimited access to the university campus". There are other inaccuracies, but this is the main one.

Biased: The sentences do not address any source that is favorable to Nowak, presenting a biased POV. In particular, https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2021/4/14/lessig-epstein-at-harvard/ , this source and information contained therein is completely ignored.

In the lead: The association between Nowak and Epstein should be discussed in the body of the article under “controversies”. Not sure why it should be notable enough to be included in the very first sentences of the article, since Nowak is famous for his contributions to science, as evidenced by the fact that he had a Wiki page long long before the Epstein scandal.

I find it troubling that the page is now locked in a state containing inaccurate information and displaying a heavily biased point of view, which clearly violates Wikipedia's Biographies of Living Persons (BLP) policies. I am deeply puzzled by the decision to revert the edit aimed at rectifying significant policy violations, and wish to believe this was an error…. 2A01:E0A:808:6FB0:9050:6959:CFE3:2C60 (talk) 06:32, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, there seems to be a discussion ongoing at BLP noticeboard about this topic where you have already contributed. I recommend keeping the issue there and the talk page of the article in question.

On "Garden of Delete"

I saw that you have reverted my decision to remove the 'nu metal' genre from the page. This is understandable, but for someone without knowledge of the genre of nu-metal, or the style of music Oneohtrix Point Never makes, having this genre present in the page is highly misleading. Both sources show the genre being named to be a subtle influence to the record, rather than a dominant sound, which even then, showing a lack of non-MIDI electronic guitar sounds, or metal drumming styles, or any metal style vocals, is highly contestable.

rateyourmusic.com is often reliable for genre descriptions, as they are voted on by the music community, and any 'metal' descriptors remain to be seen. 'Industrial' would be a more suitable descriptor for this album. 82.14.105.143 (talk) 21:04, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

Hello, I will overlook the assumptions you are making about me. Removing legitimately sourced content is generally grounds for a reversion; both sources mention nu-metal. Unfortunately Wikipedia generally categorizes rateyourmusic.com as unreliable. I would recommend looking over Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Content removal should you have any questions. I understand you might feel strongly about this issue, I would recommend recommend you seek consensus for certain edits by discussing the matter on the article's talk page (Talk:Garden of Delete). Notifying associated WikiProjects to get is a good way to get a discussion going.

Categories

Hi Classicwiki. You left a note to improve categories on a page I created, but I really don't understand categories. Why would we manually add a category "Erodium" to a page with Erodium in the title? Surely it's better to allow the computer to sort things like this, rather than relying on faulty human categorising. Can you point me in the direction of some rationale/policy, pls? Or is it just up to us to add whatever we feel might be useful? E Wusk (talk) 17:07, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Hi @E Wusk, great job on creating Erodium lebelii.
You are right that humans (and computers) can be faulty at catagorising things -- sometimes we apply the wrong category, too many, too few. Some elements on a page trigger automatic categorisation. Wikipedia relies on editors, bots, templates, and scripts (which I used in this case) to help improve categorisation on articles.
WikiProject Plants has its own guidelines on catagories, which is introduced here. (I recommend joining the WikiProject if you have not already!) More general details about catagories can be found on the editing guidelines, Wikipedia:Categorization.
Just because the article title has Erodium in the title, it does not mean that the information is automatically categorised. My edit allows this article to be categorised with other Erodium species. You can look at the category here and you will find other species in the genus.
Hope that helps and answers your question. Best, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 21:02, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MintyFresh201 and Yoyocarsonyo

Hello Classicwiki, I see in my alerts that there is a Sockpuppet investigation, against me and Yoyocarsonyo. I just wanted to clarify that the only interaction I have ever had was for creating the article FV Dudenhofen and using some aspects of the draft that he had used. I would be happy to provide any other necessary information for this investigation.

Kind Regards,

MintyFresh201 (talk) 22:57, 16 May 2024 (UTC) REVELATIONS 21:4

@MintyFresh201, thank you for providing that information. I would advise you to comment on the investigation page under the appropriate section. For guidance, Please see: defending yourself against claims.
As it notes there, If you are accused of puppetry, stay calm and don't take the accusations too personally. If you have not abused multiple accounts or IPs and have not breached the policy on meat-puppetry, then that will almost always be the finding.
Finally, I would kindly ask for you to please start seriously addressing the issues that other editors are raising about the articles that you are creating. Please stop removing maintenance templates and move warring. There is a need for reliable, independent sources in your articles or they might be subject to deletion. Please see the guide for citing sources. I hope this helps with the investigation.
God bless you, MintyFresh201 (talk) 00:54, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Mew reversion

Your edit summary on the reversion of my edit just says "Last good". What are you trying to say here? TheWikiToby (talk) 04:17, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

@TheWikiToby, I was just about to post to your talk page. Could you explain who the subject of that photo was? Where it was sourced? I see "own work" on Commons. I am concerned about the consent issues surrounding a child's image appearing on Wikipedia. The accompanying EXIF data makes me concerned for privacy rights as well. I am looking at wp:IUCwp:IUP>>Privacy Rights>>Normally do require consent. Considering its a popular trend, I also worry about someone uploading their own photo just for the meme-factor.
"Last good" is a shorthand many use in anti-vandalism to try to return a page to its previous stable version. Just a two days before your addition, another user (now blocked) uploaded a child's image to that page as well (diff). The article has been frequently vandalised.
If I can get some clarity on the image usage, I am not opposed to restoring. If you have any policies you can point me toward that clear the usage of the image that would be much appreciated. Thanks, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 04:43, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
Ah okay. The child is someone I know IRL. They know of my endeavors on Wikipedia and they thought it'd be fun if they contributed somehow, so I thought of an image about mewing portraying how kids mew these days. Thinking about it now, adding the images were probably a little reckless as there was a little bit of some numerous intent there. TheWikiToby (talk) 04:50, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
@TheWikiToby, did the child's legal guardian give you permission to upload their image to Commons or English Wiki? --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 04:53, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
@Classicwiki I did not get the legal guardian's permission. I'll try to contact them, but I'll get the images deleted if I must. TheWikiToby (talk) 04:55, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
@TheWikiToby, I would suggest deleting such images until legal permission is acquired through a model release. Again if there is an image use policy that allows for such images to be used, please do point me in that direction. I think I might seek a bit of clarity about this issue over a WP:VP or some other related outlet soon. --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 05:02, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

The guys at WP:WikiProject Plants have achieved consensus for using the distribution categories shown at WP:PLANTS/WGSRPD. Recent mpox outbreak protection requests

Hey there, I noticed you listed a bunch of protection requests on WP:RFPP for mpox outbreak articles when the vandalism was pretty much perpetrated by just one single IP vandal. In the future, if it's just one person vandalizing, you should list them at WP:AIV to get them blocked instead. Semi-protection is for when a bunch of different users are vandalizing/disrupting the same article. Some of your other requests also didn't have really any recent activity according to their histories; remember that protection is not preemptive. It would be helpful to check the page history for articles before you list them for protection. bibliomaniac15 03:31, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

@Bibliomaniac15, this user has done this several times in the past. Just as recently as yesterday with a different IP address. If these articles are not protected the vandal will return. If you check the protection logs and the diffs on these Mpox pages you will see the revdels in the past. There is a consistent pattern. If you want to reject all the RFPPs that is your prerogative. --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 03:41, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
If they come back again switching IPs, feel free to let me know or resubmit the request (might even be better to list all the pages under a single section header too). But seeing that the last time this happened was a month ago, I don't think it's frequent enough to warrant protection at the moment. Generally with these kinds of administrative actions we usually use the method that will impact others users as little as possible. bibliomaniac15 03:53, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
@Bibliomaniac15, the last time this happened was yesterday, 20 May (see: 76.98.200.125). Personally, I think not exposing users to consistent vandalising/racism on Mpox articles is the minimal impact option, but let us leave it to the fates and your administrative discretion. Thanks for blocking the vandal. Hope for the best. Cheers, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 04:01, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

@Liz, please note this category was created when 2024 Meizhou expressway collapse was still an article. It is now a draft, Draft:2024 Meizhou expressway collapse. Given there has been an active category tag for events in China for the past several months, I do no think it is too wp:crystalball to say that the category should be left active, but given that its empty at this moment I understand it will likely be deleted. No response necessary. Best, -- Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 08:44, 2 May 2024 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this version of Wikipedia is not the place for non-notable fictional countries/governments/political parties. However, there are other websites like Fandom that are open to such topics. I would suggest moving your content there.
I really recommend you familiarize yourself with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines if you wish to continue editing here. On that topic, I recommend responding to the sock puppet investigation on your account.
Again, I would kindly ask that you re-evaluate and improve your editing. Wishing the best for you/your friend. Sincerely, --Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 14:31, 20 June 2024 (UTC)

Hi Classicwiki. Your work patrolling for potential undisclosed paid editing is appreciated, but please remember to be exceptionally careful about posting personal information while doing so. – Joe (talk) 15:17, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

@Joe Roe, absolutely. Is this in response to a NY-based charity/foundation? -- Classicwiki (talk) If you reply to me here, please ping me. 16:46, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Yeah. It's an understandable mistake, but the combination of job title plus company narrowed things down too far. I know you didn't do it on purpose but I'd be remiss if I didn't say something. – Joe (talk) 20:44, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
@Joe, thanks for noting. I believe I gave three users a COI warning about that page because of their possible connection. Another time, an admin said I was not posting enough info on the talk page to show COI to justify the tag. So, I was trying to be accurate, but I understand how this instance might have been unintentionally too specific. I see that you have already redacted that information, thank you for that. -- Classicwiki (talk) If you reply to me here, please ping me. 20:54, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
I don't know the context of that advice but I'd definitely always err on the side of not being specific. You can always email the information to the functionaries if in doubt. – Joe (talk) 20:59, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
