Spider Woman

Please explain why you removed the reference to the Dine Spider Woman. Dine Spider Woman is a complete and seperate cultural identification and should not be just a incidental note on another page. I will write the page soon, but don't just take off the Dine reference. She lives on top of Spider Rock, a soaring, 800-foot-high free-standing spire in Canyon del Muerto.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Al95521 (talkcontribs) 17:35, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Morrison

_ _ No, i'm actually an advocate for the value of red lks on LoPbN, pretty much as a case of their value anywhere in WP. Without reviewing, what sticks in my mind in this case is

- blue lks to non-bio articles that don't even include bios (and in one case is the target of a rdr, that turned the deletion of a n-n bio into sort of a merge into the article on the person's works)
- mentions that seemed to me to suggest unsuitability of the person as the subject of non-deletable bio.

The theoretical criterion i aspire to apply is

- actual bio articles (but i've got a little hedging trick called {{Deln trk list entry}} for those i suspect are deletable), and
- rd lks likely to correspond to people who could have non-deletable bios.

_ _ Now, i may have erred on one or more Morrisons in my relative haste, and if in your mind i haven't closed all cases, i'd be more than happy to reconsider per your specific inputs, and respond.

LGBT Project Template

Hi, PC78! Glad to see you adding the template to articles - There seem to be so many! Two comments to consider. One, go ahead and rate the article when you add the banner - most of the time it's easy (stub), but be bold and rate however you want. Two, the "talkheader" template should only be used on pages that see a lot of comments - see the talkheader page for more info. And thanks again for your help!! -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 07:30, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 21:34, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for helping out - it is greatly appreciated! In time you will get the hang of it - seeing which articles are or are not stub or start class. Right now the important thing for us to do is get them tagged so they can move onto the next phase of development. Again, thank you for contributing! --Ozgod 07:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the speedy deletion tag from the above article. While the subject might not be notable, the article does assert notability in a reasonable way. You may wish to list it at WP:AFD instead, to get a broader consensus on the article. Wardrobe

Hello, User:PC78, you seem to have more of an idea than I how to do a rename here, for Wardrobe, which is surely going to be consensus soon, do you think? If you would care to, I suggest by all means you do it then, whenever is best, if you are happy with that. I will follow what you do, because I haven't done any renames yet, nor quite know how to follow the instructions for that procedure in full.

Re: Isha Sesay

Hi there; no, {{Cite web}} isn't a requirement, but I prefer it because citation templates provide a high degree of uniformity and professional look to the articles, and if something needs to be changed format-wise in the future, you only have to change the template to affect all the related articles. Just a neat, simple way of doing things. I highly recommend it! ;) You can check out WP:CITET to see some of the other citation templates available for different purposes.

Out of curiosity, why was the "Minister for Economic Development" bit removed? It is the specific title given in the Mano Vision citation, as opposed to just the generic "advisor" title. Also, images are normally best left at the top of the page, rather than somewhere midway (though, to be honest, I should have removed the image entirely as it constitutes a fair-use violation). -- Huntster T@C 17:04, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Gotcha regarding "advisor"...good middle ground. Weak rationale for the image, perhaps, but I do suppose it skims by for now. Don't be surprised if it eventually is removed, as I doubt an admin would permit it to stay. -- Huntster T@C 17:21, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Your note in page history reads "(tagged for inappropriate tone - reads more like a fan site or essay than an encyclopedic article)". I'm something of a Wiki novice; can you cite 2-3 of the most glaring examples? I want to be sure I'm on right track, as it seems I'll be appealing to you in particular for removal of this stigmatic tag. (My computer crashed before I could sign. This is Relgif)71.222.115.225 08:48, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

PC78 - Thank you. Your critiques are sound. In fact, I have no objection to your skimming the effusiveness off the text as it stands as of this morning. If that significantly shortens it, so be it. Your work will serve as an example to me, not only at this page, but on any future pages. Relgif 18:57, 18 June 2007 (UTC)
PC78 - I believe I have addressed a number of your concerns by removing material that betrayed obvious partiality. This was mainly a subtractive process; I have located several good sources I intend to use to make the piece more informative, specific, and less "editorial". Thank you.Relgif 03:48, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Image:Harisu_DoDo_commercial.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Harisu_DoDo_commercial.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 19:11, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Re: Linkspam

From what I've seen, the Korean film reviews are blanketed across multiple Korean films indiscriminately. The strong Wikipedia presence despite its minimal reputation seems to suggest a cheap contribution to "link farms" in External links. I've left alone reviews and similar pages that have actually been implemented into the article. I'm not targeting just these reviews -- I'm working off my subpage, based on widespread external link distributions that I've encountered or links that I've come across in subsequent clean-ups. Let me know if there is an issue. External links ought to be for supplementary content that can help the article but does not have a place for it -- meaning, for a historical film, a historian's review would be appropriate for it, and not an indiscriminate link choice that doesn't take into account the topic of the film. Erik (talkcontrib) - 18:38, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

(I'll respond here since the thread seems to have led here). It seems that your reason for deleting these links is simply because they are "blanketed" across Wikipedia. There is a very good reason for this. It is the most reliable and thorough English-language source for information and reviews of Korean films available. (If you know of a better one, please provide it, as that imaginary source would be very useful for improving these articles.) The articles and reviews linked at these sites-- at least the ones I've seen removed-- are not at all "indiscriminate." They all pertain directly to the film or actor which is the subject of the article. When we've got so many completely unsourced articles, to remove these links is to remove valuable sourcing from these articles, and to lessen their quality. Rizzleboffin 19:52, 3 July 2007 (UTC)

Janghwa Hongreyon-jon

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Janghwa Hongreyon-jon, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. NeilN 02:31, 22 July 2007 (UTC)

Name tables

Hi PC78,

Thanks for your question, and all your good work on Korea-related topics. I think it would be best to merge the two templates, but this will be a bit tricky -- not because of the order (I'm not sure the order in {{Koreanname}} is quite right anyway), but because two of the sets are labeled differently in {{Koreanname}} and {{Koreanruler}} (namely the posthumous (post/ph) and birth (b/born) names). So either the alternate labels will need to be incorporated into {{Koreanname}}, or each invocation of Koreanruler will need to be checked and converted by hand.

I'd volunteer for the job, but seem to be a bit pressed for time at the moment. "Real life"... so overrated.  :-( Cheers, -- Visviva 20:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Goguryeo-guk

Goguryeo-guk literally means "Goguryeo country". The sites you have seen on the web are mostl likely about the state of Goguryeo. The creation of the Goguryeo-Guk article was a futile attempt to name one of the brief revival movements for Goguryeo. In historical texts, there was a mention of this said revival movement, but it was not called Goguryeo-country. Even the original creator of the article agrees with the deletion of this page, and the contents be moved to a new article titled revival movements of Goguryeo Odst 23:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

What??? I think that's exactly what I said. well, in that case, What I say now overlaps whatever different thing I may have said before. Odst 23:41, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

I did say there was no such thing in that context. You do not seem to have much knowledge of the Korean language. In speech, when one says Goguryeo-guk, it means nation of Goguryeo. It is as if one says a country called Korea, for example. The word Goguryeo-guk is only reserved for some parts of speech. There is no official term such as Goguryeo-guk, as Goguryeo is called simply called Goguryeo.

I apologize if what I said before on the talk page caused confusion for you. Odst 23:59, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

Korean district

Sorry for the late response. I was busy working on my little project for Wikipedia. The template you are current working looks great. The only concern I have is 'Short form.' I don't think it will be used a lot and this kind of information usually goes into the intro section of articles. Also, it would be great to rename it (or create new one and redirect the old one) to {{Infobox Korean district}} like other infoboxes.

In addition, I totally agree with moving {{Koreanname}} to {{Infobox Korean name}}. As I was always told, WP:BB :D eDenE 03:07, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Info box actors

I thought we decided at WikiProject Actors the convention is to use gold for living actors and silver for deceased. Please respect this. I find is frustrating that despite establishing the Actor/Filmmaker project on wikipedia I am not permitted to have a say in the infoboxes!!! Personally I am not a fan of the off yellow color anyway ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

Great idea I've seen what has been done now it keeps silver by death date and blocks out colors other than silver or gold. Great!!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:24, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I didn't say we "own the info box" but we certainly have every right to administer and upkeep it as much as "admin" do. I've said all along I strongly prefer the silver. I can't do much more than this than state my opinion. If we must have gold why can't it actually be a gold color rather than an off yellow?. The doubt the guarders of the box are going to listen to a word or my opinion anyway ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Contribs 11:44, 10 August 2007 (UTC).

Please feel free to add any missing film to List of South Korean films or whatever you are interested in. Yes the infobox thing does need to be decided on - but it would be good if you could select the color that appeals to you in your preference options wouldn't it. This would save a lot of disgreements. It can be difficult deciding on a format that millions of people ar happy and agree with!!! Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you?" Speedy deletion of templates

Hello. Please be careful when applying speedy deletion tag to templates. For one thing, most templates cannot and should not be speedy deleted (see WP:CSD for details) and should be sent to templates for deletion. The other important thing to remember is that you absolutely must use the noinclude tags or a whole bunch of pages on which that template is transcluded will end up in the speedy deletion category. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 02:50, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Actually, it was (and still is) transcluded on Template talk:Vietnamese which ended up in the CSD category. In any case, even for obvious cases of deletion, please go to TfD unless there is some urgency to delete the template. In some cases, what may look like a test edit may end up being a deprecated template in which case a redirect would be a better solution. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 15:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Width

I'm speaking as someone who uses the templates and needs to adjust things. Often the "width" parameter is not already given and I have to try out a half dozen different names for this parameter until I find the right one. For the user on the ground implementing these templates, keeping things simple and standardized is best. Badagnani 17:57, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

I use the parameter name all the time; in fact just did for an article that did not previously have it. Simplest really is best. Badagnani 18:01, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, clever! I do use the function a lot, also in the Chinese box which is nearly identical to the Korean one (as we modeled it on the Korean one). Badagnani 18:13, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Change in image

This change makes the logo look bad. Could you please check these things before you implement them? Badagnani 19:22, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

It doesn't. For one, one cannot even read the text. It would be really wonderful if you would fix this. Badagnani 19:24, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

It was standard/preferable/fine before. Now the lavender box (which should just be a bar) surrounds the image, looking very strange and non-standard; the image is not centered, and it's too small. The previous way was just fine. Badagnani 19:27, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Fair use disputed for Image:Like a Virgin film poster.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Like a Virgin film poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:30, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

Question +

Hey there. If you have time, I have a question over at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Actors_and_Filmmakers#pre-FAC_advice_needed. I have a feeling no one is going to respond, and you seem quite experienced, so I would very much appreciate it if you would please take a look. Also, if you can, check out the section below that; I seem to be the only person giving the FAC article in question a close reading. Thanks, Melty girl 15:03, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Changing redirects

(removing comment made in mistake)

I went through the entire discussion there, and while it is highly confusing, I see that the end result was your statement. My apologies. ArielGold 23:19, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

I really want to apologize again, because I have been trying to figure out how the heck that page even ended up on my watched list! And I realized it was this edit that got my attention on Vandal patrol, which I reverted as it was a cut/paste of an existing disamb page, creating a WP:FORK. (And boy, was my explanation worded badly, lol. I meant he pasted a disamb page and ended up typing it totally wrong, sheesh lol) However, you should note that there is an edit war going on with that page, for some silly reason (I honestly can't see why anyone is so picky about where it goes. If it goes to one place and they want the other, the link is at the top, what's the big deal? lol) But while I did revert my edit, Reginmund has reverted me. So I will leave it to you and remove it from my watched list, lol. Sorry again. ArielGold 23:27, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Iron maiden

Is this an actual policy to redirect an ambiguous capitalisation as to title by ambiguous capitalisation? Because there has already been discussion over it. The consensus on Talk:Iron maiden (torture device) was about moving the page, not the redirect. If you want to discuss where the redirect should go, feel free because consensus can change but don't substitute consensus for a different topic with it. Reginmund 00:10, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Keep it civil. I think that it is common sense to direct a a grammatical difference to its grammatical difference. If it has a different title to disambiguate, although I don't generally agree with that, it is fine considering that it is specified. Now, do you actually want to discuss the redirect? Because there has already been a discussion. If you want to open another one, go ahead but mind you that the redirect and the title aren't the same thing. Reginmund 00:26, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Kirby (surname), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://kids-and-teens.gourt.com/Games/Computer-and-Video/Kirby.html. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot 23:58, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

It was deleted at the request of Madman as a temporary deletion for a history merge and housekeeping. It is not permanent, but I will restore it if the deletion is entirely unnecessary. the_undertow talk 23:35, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Cillian Murphy FAC

Hey, if you have the time and inclination to do an FAC review, I've self-nominated Cillian Murphy, and there don't seem to be that many people available to review. I'd love to get your expert opinion. It's at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Cillian Murphy‎. Thanks! --Melty girl 18:39, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Hello – thanks for the message. I reviewed the deletion discussion at your request, along with the article's history and revisions, and I stand by my conclusion.

The discussion lasted 12 days, 10 of which were after the translation and rewrite. The article was originally created as a tribute to this man, if it wasn't an autobiography (I don't think it was, but it's possible). The creator tried nine times to return it to his original version, Korean text included. More importantly, though, after it was translated and rewritten, only two editors in 10 days voiced an opinion who had not already participated in the discussion. Both favored deletion. Another factor: two of the 'keep' positions said 'weak keep.' The translator didn't even change his 'weak keep' position after he translated the article. That's not exactly a robust statement of confidence.

AFD is not a vote – it really is a discussion, and a simple 4-3 count of !votes isn't sufficient. The closing administrator reads and considers the entire discussion, then determines consensus, but we also have to look at the article's content, its history, and the number and type of articles linked to it. Then we use our best judgment as trusted community members to evaluate the whole package and determine what's best for the encyclopedia.

Taking all those factors into consideration, I came to the conclusion that the man is just not notable, and I deleted the article. If he becomes notable sometime in the future, the article can be recreated. If you disagree, of course, you can open a deletion review discussion. Thanks again for the message. :-) KrakatoaKatie 21:59, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Eidelon (Farscape)

I have reviewed the article Eidelon (Farscape) and found it to be:

  • Failing notability requirements of WP:FICTION as it contains no assertion of notability, analysis or context;
  • Has no independent sources which can be verified;
  • The article itself is primarily focused on plot summary which make up its content.

In your edit summary, you stated that a "merge of some kind would be preferable". If you believe this case, please:

  • Effect merger of the page with another; or
  • Propose a merger with another page. To this end, I would suggest you select one of the templates under the Category:Merge templates and attach it to the top of the article.

In the meantime, could I ask when you will be actually undertaking either the merger or proposed merger which you are proposing? --Gavin Collins 12:36, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Template talk:Ming namebox, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Template talk:Ming namebox is a redirect to a non-existent page (CSD R1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Template talk:Ming namebox, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. License tagging for Image:Fontproblemscreenshot1.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Fontproblemscreenshot1.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 14:05, 2 November 2007 (UTC)
