Revision as of 19:00, 16 April 2014

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary semi-protection: A news source citing unnamed inside sources has published some otherwise unverified claims about this club. Several new accounts and anons have attempted to add that information to the article. Semi protection for fifteen days should allow further clarification or for this story to die. Walter Görlitz (talk) 18:15, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – increased level of IP interference over the past day.Ppt1973 (talk) 17:47, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Create protection: Repeatedly recreated and being used to avoid salting at Demetrice Jackson and Deezy. STATic message me! 17:44, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

University of Louisiana at Lafayette athletics pages

Temporary pending changes: Persistent vandalism over many months relating to the WP:COMMONNAME of the athletic program at University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Consensus has been reached on the talk pages for the current article name, but several editors and IP's continue to seek to change it within the text. Billcasey905 (talk) 16:09, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like they should be move protected as well.Hoops gza (talk) 16:44, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That may prove necessary, but I don't recall any attempted page moves in the last few months. Billcasey905 (talk) 16:50, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Daily vandalism, disruptive edits, unexplained multiplication of content by IP. – Recollected 16:07, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Obviously needs page protection. Hoops gza (talk) 15:05, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Recent vandalistic actions and blanking of content by IPs and brand new users. We can revert, of course, but it's getting tiring to constantly reverting section blanking. Tutelary (talk) 15:00, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: disruptive editing, a number of IP's are edit warring, always inserting the same link to push a POV without a source, refusal to talk or discuss in spite of several attempts to have a discussion, all the IP's act the same indicating they belong to the same person, one of the IP's has a warning for severe vandalism at the IP User talk:198.228.216.46 --Attar-Aram syria (talk) 14:54, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Sustained recent revert war over a section of promotional prose being inserted by anonymous editors. Ainslie is a candidate for office in Toronto, Canada. Ivanvector (talk) 14:16, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: I reinsert my request for indefinite semi-protection, as the blocking of the IP addresses yesterday (15th April) seems to have been futile – even though it was worth trying. The disruptive editing seems to continue just from other IP addresses. Here yesterday’s request: The page has previously been temporary semi-protected due to high amount of disruptive IP editing including edit wars (was blocked myself – hence popper procedure now). The disruptive IP editing seems to start yet again. Disruptive editing include WP:NOTADVERTISING, WP:NOTSOAPBOX, WP:LINKFARM. WP:UNDUE, WP:NPOV. In order for editors to continue to work on this article and ensure some amount of quality an indefinite semi-protection would be very much welcomed. Discussions on the talk page seem to have been futile.--Catflap08 (talk) 14:14, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Very high level of vandalism by anon IP editors. STATic message me! 13:38, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected by HJ Mitchell (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA) (6 weeks) tutterMouse (talk) 18:14, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – See WP:ANI#Dorje Shugden Controversy. Dougweller (talk) 10:13, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. There haven't been any edits by non-autoconfirmed users in around 3 weeks and if Truthsayer62 comes back with socks we can deal with them or semi the page then, am I missing something Doug? Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 12:22, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Meant to request full protection to stop the editwarring, but if you don't think it's necessary, [[User:Callanecc|Callanecc], ok. Dougweller (talk) 15:22, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent vandalism – Persistent edit warring by block evading socks. Flat Out let's discuss it 08:38, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of two weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Callanecc (talkcontribslogs) 12:31, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

This page was fully protected in 2009 to prevent vandals from activating the bots that it controls. However, I'm currently involved in closing CFD discussions to help clear out the backlog. Could you reduce CFD/W to template protection so that I can perform the closures properly, by activating Cydebot? The number of template editors is far lower than the number of admins; I believe that these users can be trusted with access to the page. As of now, the protecting administrator has not responded to a request to change the protection level. Thanks. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 22:48, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Note: This request contravenes protection policy (see WP:TEMP-P); I'm not convinced we want to go down this path. Spike Wilbury (talk) 12:02, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. I will file a BRFA instead so that I run my own bot to effectuate the CFD closures. DavidLeighEllis (talk) 14:34, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Not unprotected per above discussion. This is beyond the powers of admins at this board. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:00, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please add a new section to User talk:A.amitkumar with the following text.

Regarding [[Social and psychological value of money]], please read [[WP:TONE]], and why is it a bad thing to add a link defining the term? Please ask for your talk page to be unprotected, too, since I can't contact you directly. ~~~~

Unprotected by Nyttend (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA). HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:59, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
