RU58841 is considered to be one of the most promising drugs regarding hair loss prevention. To study the effect of the RU58841 on human hair growth, researchers (Brouwer et al., 1997) used twenty productive scalp grafts from balding men. RU-58841 (also known as PSK-3841 or HMR-3841) is a non-steroidal antiandrogen which was previously investigated for use as a topical treatment for acne, androgenetic alopecia, and hirsutism.[1][2] The compound is similar in structure to RU-58642 but contains a different side-chain.[3] These compounds are similar in chemical structure to nilutamide,[4] which is related to flutamide, bicalutamide, and enzalutamide. RU-58841 can be synthesized either by building the hydantoin moiety or by aryl coupling to 5,5-dimethylhydantoin [5]
