Hello guys can you snap a picture of the market for the article? Also can you help me expand the article to at least ~4000 bytes for DYK purposes? Wikipedia Community Logo for POSS

POSS is asking for our logo, so they could put it in their website. I made a screenshot of the WMPH home page. It would be great if someone could make a version which follows the official guidelines

Here's the screenshot:

--Nino Gonzales (talk) 03:06, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe we can incorporate some elements of our flag into the logo? (Just a suggestion) --Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 03:50, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We can't incorporate any. There's an official guideline. The only thing we can change is the subtext. -- Felipe Aira 04:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nino Gonzales, Re a version which follows the official guidelines, just for grins I've made one which should be close. It's currently available here. The guidelines specify that the font is GillSans bold or, alternatively, DejaVu Sans. I don't happen to have either of those but I do have Gill Sans MT bold, so I used that. -- Boracay Bill (talk) 04:34, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Er. I don't think we can use the WMF logo without permission. WMPH is not an approved entity yet. We are simply just a community. --seav (talk) 04:50, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Correct. If we want to use the logo, we have to fast-track the approval of Wikimedia Philippines as a local chapter of Wikimedia Foundation. --Jojit (talk) 06:52, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
My suggestion is to simply submit a logo that bears word "Wikimedia Philippines" in the font suggested above (or on Times New Roman) or dont submit a logo at all while WMPH is not yet incorporated. It brings to my attention that the community slowly loosing interest in incorporating. There should be an ad-hoc committee who will process the papers for WMPH. But the big problem is... can it be organized? There is a very small number of wikipedians talking about WMPH setup. In that small number, each wikipedian has different commitments. Some of us have jobs, some will go back to school this June, some work at day, some work at night. Some works on a regular shift of 8-10 hours in 4-5 days, some do freelance work. Add physical location. Some of us are in Cebu while others are in Manila.--Exec8 (talk) 07:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We can't use any other font. It's either Gill Sans MT or DejaVu. It's in the Guidelines. -- Felipe Aira 09:17, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If we cannot use the Wikimedia logo, we can use this image (by TheCoffee) for POSS. --Jojit (talk) 08:02, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that we should use that for now. And also, I created this fully Wikimedia compliant logos in Inkscape. Variants are in different languages. -- Felipe Aira 09:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank goodness we have logos! We're all set for WMPH with these! :D --Sky Harbor 15:30, 22 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I prefer English version and the Filipinas version as the alternative.--Lenticel (talk) 02:40, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Exclude hil and krj under Wikimedia Pilipinas logo. Or include fil and bto. --Filipinayzd (talk) 20:37, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just did. --Filipinayzd (talk) 14:46, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even if Hiligaynon and Kinaray-a are Incubator languages, they are still, for all intents and purposes, considered as WMPH languages since they have active projects. This is regardless of whether or not they have their own Wikipedia because they have not pushed through with interface translation, unlike Bikol. --Sky Harbor 13:35, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I asked emailed the communications guy of Wikimedia Foundation last week. No reply yet. If we can't use the WMPH logo, I suggest we create something which looks "Wikipedia" rather than Philippine. Take note of the context. In Wikipedia, the sun and banners logo works because we are the Philippine group. In a Filipino gathering, we have to be seen as a Wikipedia group. Any objections--legal, aesthetic, etc--if we use this? --Nino Gonzales (talk) 02:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good; how about incorporating the sun and banner logo in there are well? Overkill? — KvЯt GviЯnЭlБ Speak! 03:53, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can't we just use the Wikipedia logo? -- Felipe Aira 05:06, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think so. The Wikipedia logo is also copyrighted by Wikimedia Foundation. Suggestion Nino, you can include the Wikipe-tan mascot for Philippine collorabation or the original Wikipe-tan (to make more international) in your logo. --Jojit (talk) 06:15, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't expect any agreements on logo use between the WMF and WMPH just yet. These agreements will not come into fruition until WMPH is approved. --Sky Harbor 16:25, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Will there be a PhilWiki chat on June 1? Some Filipino Wikipedians are available on that date. Probably, we can make it earlier, around 6pm. --Jojit (talk) 01:23, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I do not know what my plans are for Sunday. However, I think I might be staying home since I need at least a day to get my bearings back together after a long day of travel. --Sky Harbor 15:04, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Is everybody really invited? Because I want to join if I can arrive at home early. But if it's for administrators only, then I won't hurry home then.Monzonda c",) 23:31, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The discussions are NEVER for admins only. That's completely against the spirit of WMPH and why Wikimedia chapters exist! :D --Sky Harbor 00:03, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Draft Guidelines for Lists of companies by country - Feedback Requested

Within WikiProject Companies I am trying to establish guidelines for all Lists of companies by country, the implementation of which would hopefully ensure a minimum quality standard and level of consistency across all of these related but currently disparate articles. The ultimate goal is the improvement of these articles to Featured List status. As a WikiProject that currently has one of these lists within your scope, I would really appreciate your feedback! You can find the draft guidelines here. Thanks for your help as we look to build consensus and improve Wikipedia! - Richc80 (talk) 13:53, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know this might not be the place to say this, but...

What are you going to do about that absurdity called the Luzon Empire? That <expletive deleted> fanbrat still hasn't listened to any of your merge proposals! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.31.31.190 (talk) 20:03, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Is anyone there? Or do you just think I'm a fanbrat as well? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.31.95.67 (talk) 11:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First, learn to be civil. Second, the article has been discussed thoroughly here (especially knowing that a non-Filipino wrote it) and has been concluded that it is not a hoax considering its sources. Thanks. Starczamora (talk) 14:36, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry. It's just that the continued existence of that article gave me the (false) illusion that little is being done about it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.31.95.67 (talkcontribs)

May 27 POSS Updates

a few updates. --Nino Gonzales (talk) 02:04, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Bentong Isles and I met face to face with Boni Belen, the head organizer of POSS.
  • The Philippine Wikipedia Community is officially a "Local Implementing Partner" of POSS (see details in the email forwarded to Philwiki or in the correspondence archive page)
  • If you are going, pls sign-up in the meet-up page (they might give us discounts or complementary tickets [still under discussion])
Complementary plane tickets? --Exec8 (talk) 22:35, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think Nino is talking about the complimentary pass for the event. --Jojit (talk) 00:39, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Give me a plane ticket (and maybe a hotel room) and I'll see if I can get out of school for it. Since it's a convention, it's additional brownie points towards graduation. :D --Sky Harbor 15:26, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Printing of Tambayan Promotional Collateral for POSS

As agreed in the last virtual meet-up, I invited Wpinas to partner in POSS. I met with Tin Mandigma and Richard Grimaldo last Wednesday. I asked them if we could singit our promotional collateral in their printing. They said ok. I'll send them the following by Monday, June 2:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Wikipedia_anzeige2ce.jpg (poster)

it would be great if someone could create a Tambayan version of this... something like "alien, art, or lapu-lapu's bahag" or something like that...

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/foundation/e/ee/Presskit.pdf

I made a draft of a Tambayan version of the presskit here: Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit. If one of us here has a talent in layout, it would be great if this could be laid-out similar to the Wikimedia presskit, with graphs, pictures, logos and all. Otherwise, I'll do a hack job with it and have it printed as well on June 2. --Nino Gonzales (talk) 06:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So what I understand here is that we need to create something like that PDF. Explaning that what Wikimedia is, and our purpose is to assist and promote Wikimedia here in the Philippines. If so I'll try to create one, and also the graphs, and also when I make it should I use the Wikimedia logo, the Wikimedia PH or Wikimedia Philippines? (refer to the above section). And also who's our staff? This is so I can put content at the staff portion of the document. -- Felipe Aira 07:16, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, something like that PDF, explaining what Tambayan and WMPH is. No need to make it exactly like the Wikimedia PDF in terms of structure (but perhaps the same in style). Just keep in mind the audience and the message. We will be distributing this to participants of POSS, the press and everyone we could give it to. We need to explain who we are, what we do, and how they could contribute to our goals (e.g., the improvement of Philippine articles, promotion of local language Wikipedias, the chartering of WMPH, etc). Please feel free to edit Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit. It is very very first draft... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 08:10, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
We can assume that the reader has already read the Wikimedia press kit when we write the text. So no need to go into details about Wikimedia and Wikipedia... We will be distributing the Tambayan presskit with the Wikimedia press kit...--Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:14, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And should I indicate that we're a chapter or a proposed one or a community or both? -- Felipe Aira 09:15, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would word it this way: Tambayan... is a community of Wikipedia editors... as of printing of this information sheet, the Philippine chapter of Wikimedia is being formalized. This includes SEC registration blah blah blah... One the logo, we could just put a there "the logo of the soon to be formed WMPH" or something like that... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:22, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a quick note about the message of the presskit. Please take note that Wikimedia chapters do not maintain the Wikimedia projects. Only the Foundation does that. --seav (talk) 09:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC) I would like to inform all that I'm about 1/4 in the making of it. And also, in some instances I've replaced Wikipedian with Wikimedian; like The Philippine Collaboration Project, otherwise know as "Tambayan" or "Tambayan Philippines", is the de facto name of the the extensive community of Wikimedians ... This is since our scope of is not only Wikipedia, and that's the actual thing that I've put there. Also, as a personal opinion it's very hard to find free PDF editors although it's practically a documentation standard. And the original press kit of Wikimedia has so many tyos. hehe. -- Felipe Aira 12:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

And also another question: attribution? Who will I attribute in the footnotes like "All Rights Reserved. unknown Copyright 2008."? It's obvious that I can't attribute Wikimedia Philippines since I can't attribute something that doesn't exist. Would it be ok if I'll just put the attribution to my self? And do you think it would be better if it's liscenced in the GFDL? -- Felipe Aira 13:06, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just copyright it the way it is. The lay-out is definitely yours. If you'll use the text in Wikipedia:Tambayan_Philippines/presskit, just put a link to that. Same with the pics. If they are yours, put your name there. If it's someone else's who wants to be attributed, let's attribute it to him... I think it is perfectly all right if you attribute it to yourself. On the license, perhaps GFDL or CC-BY--Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok I am almost done. It is a 5 page press kit. Page 1 - title page; Page 2- mission/introduction to wikimedia; Page 3 - Projects; Page 4- Statistics; Page 5- final call for participation; copyright information, and also maybe contact information? What number should I put? I am already at page 4, I'll just finish it tommorrow. And also I'll be needing answers to all my questions tommorrow to finalize the content. -- Felipe Aira 14:41, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Who wants to volunteer his number? If none, we could just put there the egroup email and the URL of the Tambayan...--Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ang also maybe intead of that image we can use one's from WikiWorld like this one. I know has a larger text length but at least as people are looking at the cute pictures they'll be thinking of Wikipedia, since most of the time only the picture's will be looked at. -- Felipe Aira 17:07, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Whatever you think is best man... --Nino Gonzales (talk) 04:26, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's finished! http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF It seems that it can't be read by v5 of Adobe Acrobat Reader. It renders properly under 8. I'll also create a png version of that. -- Felipe Aira 14:35, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting suggestions on the participation page:

  • "require you anything" -> "require anything from you"
  • "need you're time" -> "need your time"
  • "Philippine-language Wikipedia" -> "Philippine-language Wikipedias"
  • "Quoted from" -> "To quote from" and scratch the "dear" ;-)
  • The end of Jimbo's quote has doubled periods.
  • "making it possible" -> "in making that vision possible"
  • The second "You" in "You may contact..." is a bit jarring. I suggest rephrasing that sentence.
  • There's an extra space after TAMBAY. If you're afraid that people might consider that a part of the URL, underline the URL and color it a subtle shade of blue.
These are just some initial comments. I might go over the other pages. :) --seav (talk) 14:59, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for copy editing I will correct those tommorrow or maybe the other day. I feel sick today. -- Felipe Aira 07:39, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could we remove the French Communes from the Cebuano stats? It's misleading. Perhaps you could just put a footnote: *Excluding stubs on French Communes--Nino Gonzales (talk) 09:24, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give you another version in the weekend. -- Felipe Aira 11:24, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Stop the presses! I took a look at the presskit: I recommend a thorough look-through and copy-edit before printing it. There are several errors with regard to spelling, capitalization, grammar and factual accuracy. For example, the Tagalog Wikibooks has 200+ modules (not books) and we don't have an Ilonggo Wikipedia (still in Incubator, it should be the Ilokano Wikipedia), among others. --Sky Harbor 00:49, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the new statistics included in the Press kit. Sources are stats.wikimedia.org and stats.grok.se . I'll be uploading it later. It is now smaller (around 2 MB) since it was made from scratch (unlike the first one that was just superimposed over the original Wikimedia Presskit). Mistakes that were noted above have been corrected, and page 3 has been redesigned, and other mistakes have been corrected as well. It follows the British orthography not the American one (so it's "specialising" not "specializing"). Expect the new version, an hour or two from now. And also it now contains 6 pages. -- Felipe Aira 07:22, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The new version is complete. It's much smaller in size (originally 3.7 MB; currently 2.3 MB), although it now has 6 pages. 3 of which concerns statistics. Its here at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:WikimediaPhilippinesPOSS.PDF . -- Felipe Aira 08:43, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't get why British spelling conventions are used when the vast majority of Filipinos use American spelling conventions over British ones. The spelling errors do not account for orthographical differences between American and British English, although American orthography should have been used. By the way, there are still errors. For example, it's the Tagalog Wikinews that's in the Incubator, not the Tagalog Wikibooks, "ofthe" in the Tagalog Wikipedia description should have a space between the "of" and the "the", the Tagalog Wikibooks has a focus on recipes (not cookbooks), and a Bikol Wiktionary is in the Incubator, among others. --Sky Harbor 14:58, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow thank you for seeing those errors, I'll be uploading a new one later. And also, did you notice any other errors? I need to know it all so that there won't be any in the next one. In the case of British orthography, that's the kind I'm used to, and I don't think anything's wrong about, as long as it's still English. -- Felipe Aira 08:37, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And also I'll be adding Tausug and the Bikol Wiktionary. Should the Filipino Wiktionary and/or Wikipedia be added, I think it shouldn't be, since I believe the proposal page in meta was trashed and nobody, or at least we, supports it? -- Felipe Aira 08:45, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the test projects for Filipino are bogus. People there are so confused about the language that they advocate. Filipino is not Taglish. See incubator:Wp/fil and incubator:Wt/fil. -- Felipe Aira 09:03, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ok this is what I'll do: I'll be doing Sky's corrections add Bikol Wiktionary. I won't be adding Filipino since they were rejected, and Tausug because it is not yet formally proposed, and it's test is in English. I guess perhaps even the proposer is not Tausug. -- Felipe Aira 02:56, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Even if the proposer is not Tausug, it's valid (the Hiligaynon test was also in English when it started). POSS would be a good way for Tausug speakers who could be attending the conference to contribute to Wikipedia in their native language (out of all the existing Wikipedias, both regular and test, Tausug has the second-smallest number of speakers at 1.022 million, with only Chavacano having less). However, I will not back Filipino being inserted into the presskit. --Sky Harbor 05:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It will be most biased if I should include Tausug. So I won't. -- Felipe Aira 06:45, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Head's up guys, everything here is up for deletion or prod. I already provided sources for Kule but not anywhere else.--Lenticel (talk) 15:00, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's weird; they have sources, but up for AFD. WTH? --Eaglestorm (talk) 16:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have participated in the Kule AFD discussion. Let's crack down on that guy who slapped PROD/AFD tags on the papers in the category. He doesn't know what he is doing. --Eaglestorm (talk) 17:14, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hinay-hinay lang, I just suggest that you add some cites in the articles if you could and remind the prodder/nominator to notify us first when he finds something amiss in Philippine articles.--Lenticel (talk) 04:00, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Already made a b*tch fit in The Varsitarian. Just kidding... Starczamora (talk) 05:03, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
What are the updates so far on the PROD/AFD'd student pubs? I understand Kule made it through. Sorry for asking, but I only get to log in a few times a week since WP got blocked on my workstation. @starczamora, I'm just as pissed as you are when some people call our pub pages as non-notable when some non-PH campus pubs are also crappy. One thing's for sure, they are not from the Philippines. Damn, I was thinking pa naman of creating a MAGDALO Editorial Board page...or even CEGP. --Eaglestorm (talk) 08:30, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Manila 4 Meetup

I propose

  • June 21 as date
  • 2:00 to 3:00 PM as time
  • Starbucks 4th floor(?) or ground floor Megamall as venue
  • Huddle for the Cebu 1 meetup and incorporation requirements (BDO opens on Saturday)

--Exec8 (talk) 11:21, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know if they still have the 4/F Starbucks store or if it's just under renovation. But nevertheless, either June 14 or 21 sounds good to me. Maganda sana sa 14 kasi it's also payday, I can give my contribution as well ;-) --- Tito Pao (talk) 00:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think June 9 would be better since it is a public holiday.--Lenticel (talk) 00:49, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, June 9 has been proposed last night during the chat. There already 4 people agreed. Cloudhand also suggested that we held the meet-up at Binondo (actually, there’s also a Starbucks there). --Jojit (talk) 02:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ack! I also have a meeting on June 9 :-( --- Tito Pao (talk) 02:40, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Megamall na lang. Jojit tanggap mo na ba address ko at cedula?--Lenticel (talk) 03:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sige megamall na lang, di namam manlilibre si Cloudhand ;-). Anyway, I haven't receive your address and cedula yet, you can post it here and here. --Jojit (talk) 03:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm...kung sa Megamall, I think I can catch up...I can have my other meeting (somewhere in Ortigas near Megamall) scheduled for lunchtime (say, at 11pm) and end it as soon as possible so that I can make it in time at around 2 or 3 ;-) Am looking for my cedula as well. ---- Tito Pao (talk) 03:55, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nalagay ko na. Akala ko pa naman specific ang address, buti na lang at hindi.--Lenticel (talk) 03:56, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How recent should the cedula be? I got mine last February, just in time for my workplace's deadline for updating tax records. Checked my wallet and found it there, I only need to know if the date on it is acceptable for this purpose. --- Tito Pao (talk) 04:44, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Basta this year okay na ata.--Lenticel (talk) 04:57, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it should be 2008. By the way, regarding address, I have seen some AoI samples that indicate the complete address. Probably, just for privacy and presentation purposes, we would be keeping the format as posted in the meta (i.e. City or Municipality, Province) then we can state the complete address in the actual document if the SEC requires it. --Jojit (talk) 05:35, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Resetting indent Thanks for the heads up. I'll be updating the notarial acknowledgement page on Meta with my cedula's date and place of issuance. If needed, I'll provide at least 2 photocopies of my cedula.--- Tito Pao (talk) 05:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

most likely june 21 since we have two weeks to fix and debate on the by-laws and one week to wait for ChapCom's comments. --Exec8 (talk) 17:34, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good, good, good...I can make it on June 21 then, will cancel all appointments for that date once June 21 is confirmed ^___^ --- Tito Pao (talk) 02:14, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speed bump: remember, all documents MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE CHAPCOM FIRST before anything, even signing it and notarizing it. Check step 3 of the Step-by-step chapter creation guide. --Sky Harbor 05:45, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How long does the usual ChapCom review take? --Jojit (talk) 07:04, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I wouldn't know. But once it (AoI) is approved, we should immediately send it to the ChapCom. --Sky Harbor 07:14, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think they also need the Bylaws together as well, based on my reading of the step-by-step process. --seav (talk) 07:41, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Take note: August 2 is UPCAT Day. --Sky Harbor 08:21, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
After the AoI and ByLaws are approved and submitted, ChapCom must give us a target date for completing the review so that we can adjust our timeline accordingly. Perhaps we have to extend the corporation name registration as the need arises. --Jojit (talk) 11:05, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Just modified the timetable. I am hoping that incorporation would come before September. --Exec8 (talk) 23:03, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Conflicts of history

This has been off-radar mostly: Wikipedia has just become a vehicle on questioning the location of the first mass in the Philippines. Yes, we all know it's between Limasawa, Southern Leyte and present-day Butuan City, and we also know that the National Historical Institute ruled that the Mass was held in the former. However, given the edit history of the article and the compelling evidence on both sides, even though we are NOT the NHI, we should take a look. --Sky Harbor 08:27, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I had seen a bit of the editing. Affected articles include:
--seav (talk) 08:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Duh, I asked the "adder" of this information to cite them but he's not listening, I think. --Efe (talk) 08:54, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to The Philippines: A Unique Nation, There are five reasins why Masao (now part of Butuan City) was the place where the First Mass was held:
  1. Name of the place (According to Antonio Pigafetta, Magellan's expedition to a place that has three syllables - "Masao" or something close to it.)
  2. Route from Homonhon, Eastern Samar (The expedition travelled 20-25 leagues from Homonhon taking a west southwest [WSW] course. The distance between Limasawa & Homonhon was 14.6 leagues and Limasawa was blocked from homonhon by the tip of Southern Leyte.)
  3. Latitude position (Some sources locate the place at 9 degrees north latitude while others at 9.67 degrees north. Limasawa is closer to the 10 degree mark, while Masao was exactly at the 9 degree line.)
  4. Route to Cebu (The route taken by the explorers from Masao to Cebu was similar to the route used by ferries and ships in the present day. According to Pigafetta's chronicle, the distance traveled from the site of the first Mass to Cebu is 35 leagues or 140 miles [or 224 km], exactly the distance between Masao and Cebu. If they traveled from Limasawa, then they traveled only 80 miles.)
  5. Geographical features (there are five)
    1. The bonfire (Masao in Butuanon = light, residents of Masao back then celebrate a good harvest by cooking rice cakes in open fire. There were no rifefields in Limasawa.)
    2. Balanghai (There were balanghais in Masao back then (nine of them were excavated in the lastfour decades or so, none were found in Limasawa)
    3. Houses (Masao residents built hoses on stilts, Limasawans built low houses due to frequent typhoons in the area)
    4. Abundance of gold (Masao was lucky enough, since it was near the Agusan Valley [where gold is abundant and mined from the pre-Hispanic times to the present day] while Limasawa had no gold in their area.
    5. A developed settlement (Back then, what Masao was in 1521 is the equivalent of what Singapore or Hong Kong is right now. Even if I exaggerated in the previous sentence, Masao was a thriving community practising honest market transactions unlike in the Marianas. The king of Masao enjoyed great prestige in the Visayas-Mindanao region, especially in Cebu. And Masao was a major center of trade and internation commerce in Southeast Asia. Limasawa on the other hand, never attained such an importance since the begining of civilization in the Philippines.)
He should have cited those things why Masao was the site of the First Mass in the Philippines and not Limasawa. Either I added worthless info today or I just added some gasoline to the fire. -iaNLOPEZ1115 · TaLKBaCK · Vandalize it 09:57, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe that is a good source but there are a lot of original research in the article right now. --Efe (talk) 10:11, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some of these articles probably need to be merged into First mass in the Philippines. If these can be reliably sourced, there's probably enough info to make First mass a featured article. --seav (talk) 06:15, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Here's to the fourth fifth Philippine featured article bet: Iloilo International Airport. The nomination is available here. Comments, and your support especially, are most welcome. Thanks! --Sky Harbor 01:51, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fourth? TheCoffee (talk) 06:34, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The LRT, the MRT, the history of the Philippines and this one. The other ones were not initiated by a Filipino Wikipedian or by someone actively involved here, so they don't count. --Sky Harbor 10:45, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ahm, what's the importance of third, fourth, fifth Philippine FAs? --Efe (talk) 10:50, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The remaining four FAs in our records were initiated by other WikiProjects (examples: Mount Pinatubo's FA nomination was initiated by WikiProject Mountains, while Durian had significant involvement in its FA nomination from Singaporean and Malaysian Wikipedians and is largely MY/SG/TH-centric). --Sky Harbor 11:13, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Philippine Idol was actually submitted for FA, too. Starczamora (talk) 14:09, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It didn't pass though (I forgot, by the way). Then supposedly, it's the fifth! --Sky Harbor 14:31, 3 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

4th PhilWiki Chat

Since its a long weekend (for some), its a great way to have 4-5 hours of your time on Saturday  Sunday   to chat. The agenda is the same and I might consider going to Cebu (awaiting approval of my leave) on June 23. I am satisfied that the WMPH discussions were gone onto high gear and I even went to City Hall just to get a Cedula for this. We will also need to discuss preparations for the ChapCom submission of AoI and By-laws on June 14 and possible meetup on June 21. We also need to encourage more members to participate in our future discussions here in Tambayan, PhilWiki Chat and PhilWiki Yahoo Groups. For those who haven't seen the By-Laws, visit this link. We appreciate your inputs by going to this link. For AoI, we need to get the CTCs of Jojit_fb, Scorpion_Prinz, Bentong_Isles, and TheCoffee, and nominate the members of the first board of trustees.

  • Date : June 7, 2008 (Saturday)   June 8, 2008 (06-08-08), Sunday
  • Time : 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM Philippine Time (thats 10:00-15:00 UTC)
  • Platform : Yahoo Messenger

I will try my availability on June 7 as I will be in Makati Med to witness the birth of my newest cousin. June 8 might also be a good day (not June 9, as June 10 is the start of classes). Also, for those who are interesting in joining WMPH, you can do so here. --Sky Harbor 04:16, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hope you can make it a Sunday, I won't be around on that day.--Scorpion prinz (Talk | contribs) 17:21, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Changed the schedule. Done --Exec8 (talk) 17:57, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Since Wikimedia Foundation is on election period, is there a way we can have a bloc vote to lobby support? Their comments.--Exec8 (talk) 18:49, 6 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am not really a fan of bloc voting, let us just let Tambays vote who they think is best. And also I have already voted days ago. -- Felipe Aira 04:03, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be late. I will be logging in around 9:30 pm because I have a meeting from my other organization. Anyway, if you going to talk about the By-laws, I've prepared a review summary for your guidance. --Jojit (talk) 04:42, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I couldn't make it (familial obligations). However, if I have access to the transcripts, I can make changes to the By-laws as needed. --Sky Harbor 01:00, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can anyone help me clean up this article? So much fancruft and stuff, you know... Blake Gripling (talk) 02:53, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hehe, I'm pretty sure the anon won't win an award for best in English soon. Anyways try page protection if the problem gets worse.--Lenticel (talk) 04:02, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, for sure. That guy thinks I'm assuming ownership of the Angel Locsin and Strawberry Shortcake articles, so he resorted to falsely warning me. I'm just doing my job, and he's the one who's messing things up. And you know what? He's Gerald Gonzalez, in the form of an anonymous user using a Globe Telecom IP, probably in an Internet cafe... Blake Gripling (talk) 04:18, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm currently editing the article. I like Toni Gonzaga (but not so much that I'd do fanboy-ish edits), and I feel guilty enough that I had neglected this article among others, so I'm continuing what I had neglected to do for some time :-P --- Tito Pao (talk) 04:36, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now that's more like it; any more fanboyism and it will be another round of reverting from us... Blake Gripling (talk) 05:26, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Is it my time to shine (as a hitman)? Besides, that 'stard will get on my nerves sonner or later. Give me some 9mm clips and he's finished. And if that's impossible, go to the RFPP page and lock it real good. (If he hits the article about Mo Twister, he's a dead guy walking the streets of Metro Manila.) -iaNLOPEZ1115 · TaLKBaCK · Vandalize it 05:59, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hehe... Is that what you call revenge against a fanboy? Blake Gripling (talk) 06:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I also had a run-in with this guy while patrolling the Angel Locsin article, using the name User:Ginacarmen. --bluemask (talk) 07:37, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure what you meant (it means you, Blake), but we must keep an eye out of that 'stard. -iaNLOPEZ1115 · TaLKBaCK · Vandalize it 07:56, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just did a clean-up. What I hate in this article is the huge tables. Duh. --Efe (talk) 08:35, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Did a Google search on her and the results were... scary. There are more "reliable" cites for her love interests rather than her biographical data. I think I leave this to you guys to source.--Lenticel (talk) 23:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A little help...

There is someone (using the IP Address 59.154.26.124) has been repeatedly editing the Tanauan City article, changing the present Mayor to the ex - mayor and places the present mayor as a SK Chairman (see the article and the history), placing information without evidence. I know that the culprit is also from that town who is angry from the present administration. He has already given last warning and although he has given a warning he still continues to disrupt the encyclopedic article.

Note: I am also a co - contributor of the Tanauan City article and when I change the "wrong names" he / she edits it again, bringing back again the "wrong name".

I hope help will come and punish this culprit.

The General 10:10, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

To Joseff3506 a. k. a. "The General", please put new mesages at the bottom. Hopefully, I'm not the only one editing and/or using the Tambayan talk page at this time. I'm sure that they'll take care of it. Besides, I'm from CALABARZON too and I'll be there to defend your edits in the Tanauan City article from that anonymous IP. (See my other message in your talkpge.) -iaNLOPEZ1115 11:22, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry for posting it to the top (first time). Thanks for the help... The General 11:31, 7 June 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joseff3506 (talkcontribs)

New test Wikipedia

We now have a new test Wikipedia: the Tausug test. As I was browsing on Tawi-Tawi (and looking for a translation of "airport" into Tausug for Sanga-Sanga Airport), I saw that someone made a Tausug Wikipedia on Incubator. So, this means if you know any Tausug speakers, they now have a Wikipedia to call home.

And remember, POSS people, please add this to the list of Wikimedia projects hosted in Incubator. --Sky Harbor 00:15, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello guys can you snap a picture of the market for the article? Also can you help me expand the article to at least ~4000 bytes for DYK purposes? I already bled the internet dry but only came up with with 4 references. --Lenticel (talk) 02:17, 8 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be going there this coming Saturday. I'll snap a pic for you. I just hope I'm not too late. Monzonda c",) 10:33, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
