Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

    Mumbai Indians

Semi-protection: There has been a lot of disruptive edits and vandalism on the page, consistently in the past week. Page protection is needed to ensure such edits do not happen. 2405:204:2181:D0CF:9144:2E1E:FF32:B575 (talk) 06:48, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: please protect now that I have retired; I do not want to receive any talk edits. wumbolo ^^^ 09:53, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Steve Huffman

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – An IP editor is adding information of undue weight and poor sourcing to this BLP, as well as tagbombing it with dubious tags. . Opencooper (talk) 11:07, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. MelanieN (talk) 23:34, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Mar Thoma Syrian Church

Semi-protection: Continuously disruptive editing by various anonymous user's for atleast 6 months. Registered user's have largely intervened only to revert those edits. In that article's talk page one more user 'Chad The Goatman' has placed the same request as he is fed up of persistent disruptive edits by various anons who prevent any improvement to that page.--Monitor37 (talk) 13:45, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. I see occasional vandalism but a lot of productive editing by IPs. I am reluctant to block all that productive editing. MelanieN (talk) 01:04, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Off topic. Take this to Talk:Gavin Menzies.

No, user Jack90s15 is lying. The whole article of Gavin Menzies is filled with personal attacks and non-neutral vitriol against Gavin Menzies. This is in direct violation of Wikipedia official policy on biographies of living persons. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1011:B004:1D90:7C9B:B7CC:547C:B8D8 (talk) 22:44, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

like this, On 21 July 2004, the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) broadcast a two-hour-long documentary debunking all of Menzies's major claims, featuring professional Chinese historians.[1] In 2004, historian Robert Finlay severely criticized Menzies in the Journal of World History for his "reckless manner of dealing with evidence" that led him to propose hypotheses "without a shred of proof".[2] Finlay wrote:

[National University of Singapore]], acknowledges that there was a cross exchange of technological ideas between Europe and China, but ultimately classifies Menzies' book as historical fiction and asserts that there is "absolutely no Chinese evidence" for a maritime venture to Italy in 1434.[3] Jack90s15 (talk) 22:51, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

User Jack90s15 is lying in an vain attempt to reinsert his character assassination of a living person violating Official Wikipedia policy on biographies of living persons. user Jack90s15 is also deleting source references such as:

Can we please get some protection on Gavin Menzies. The IP has made eight reversions in the last hour, and this is getting very tedious. BabelStone (talk) 23:17, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism via unsourced/unverified edits. A temporary block is unlikely to be effective (as the issue regularly stems from various IP editors whose only "contributions" are to this article). Thanks. JabberJaw (talk) 01:03, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    2010 Atlantic hurricane season

Reason: The extended confirmed protection is no longer necessary because the autoconfirmed vandalism-only account that vandalized the page in October 2022 probably won't come back to this article. I would suggest reducing it to semi-protection or unprotecting the page entirely. 24.115.255.37 (talk) 21:09, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Whoops, I did not discuss with the protecting admin first. I did not see that note until after submitting this. 24.115.255.37 (talk) 21:10, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – It has been reported by anonymous sources that Klay Thompson is signing a contract with the Dallas Mavericks. Because of this, many editors have been changing the article to say that Thompson is a member of the Dallas Mavericks. Adding pending changes to this article will allow these unsourced edits to be reviewed and controlled. BullDawg2021 (talk) 01:56, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – pending changes has no effect when an article is already semi-protected, as this one is. The next escalation would be extended-confirmed protection, so you could try requesting that if the disruption becomes unmanageable. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 03:37, 2 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{Pagelinks}} template and then the reason. It looks like this: Example (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) your request here. ~~~~
