Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Nathan2055 (talk | contribs) at 21:50, 29 February 2024 (→‎File:AEGGE logo.svg: new section). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This page is NOT for challenging the outcome of deletion discussions or to address the pending deletion of any page.

Requests for undeletion is a process intended to assist users in two cases. The first case is restoring pages or files that were uncontroversially deleted via proposed deletion, under certain speedy deletion criteria (such as maintenance deletions (G6) or stale Articles for creation drafts (G13)), or in deletion debates with little or no participation other than the nominator. In the second use case, this page is also intended to serve as a central location to request that deleted content be "userfied", i.e., restored as a draft or emailed to you; this way, the content can be improved upon prior to re-insertion into the mainspace, or used elsewhere (you may also make a request directly to one of the administrators listed here).

This means that content deleted after discussion – through deletion processes – may in some cases be provided to you, but such controversial page deletions will not be overturned through this process but through deletion review instead. Copyright violations and attack pages will not be provided.

    Do not request that pages or media deleted under speedy deletion criteria F7, F9, F11, U5, A7, A9, A11, G3, G4, G10, G11 or G12 be undeleted here.

    Instructions for special cases:

@Ara479: Done – as a contested soft deletion, the article has been restored upon request.
Most of your logic on why this should be restored is out of bounds for Wikipedia's purpose. The only factor is notability, which has a very specific meaning for our encyclopedia. You should read those two links and understand what they are saying. Contesting a soft deletion, though, is a valid restoration reason. Since this would immediately be eligible for deletion upon its restoration, I have instead draftified it as Draft:G2T Global Awards. This will give you the time and space to address the issues raised in the deletion discussion. Once you have familiarized yourself with our notability policies and updated the draft, please submit it for furtgher review. - UtherSRG (talk) 14:37, 24 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    European Universities Debating Championships

Soft deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/European Universities Debating Championships. The EUDC is the largest BP debate tournament in Europe. Mainstream national coverage includes this article from The Jerusalem Post, this page from Postimees, this article from the Irish Independent, and this piece from The Tab. @ZombiUwU: This draft was created by a sockpuppet. I'm going to take this as a "soft G5" and ask are you taking responsibility for this draft? - UtherSRG (talk) 13:32, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@UtherSRG I did not know it was deleted under G5, but In the spirit of trying bring this article up to Wikipedia's standards it would be helpful if you could restore the content in my userspace so that I can see what I am working with. I suspect based off of this I will probably have to rewrite it from scratch though. ZombiUwU ♥ (🌸~♥~ 📝) 00:20, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If wasn't G5... but only because the sock made it before the sock or master were blocked. IT was definitely G13, but I wanted to take a "G5 precaution". I will restore the draft. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@ZombiUwU: Done – as a draft that was deleted under CSD G13, the page has been restored upon request. However, the draft namespace, though it is intended to provide some breathing room to create and develop a page without the time pressure of immediate review, is not for the indefinite hosting of material that is unsuitable for inclusion in the article mainspace. Please continue to work on the draft so that it meets Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for inclusion and then submit it for review—at the least, prior to another six months elapsing. When you are ready, a review can be requested by placing this code at the top of the page and then saving: {{subst:submit}}. UtherSRG (talk) 11:26, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Draft:Robert Queen

Hi, I'm KATianga, and would like to request the undeletion of this WP:Robert Queen deleted under CSD G13. Please restore the page so that I can continue making edits to it. Thank you so much. KATianga (talk) 15:43, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@KATianga: I see that you have been struggling with this draft, and this has been your only significant effort all these years on Wikipedia. The draft has been undeleted 3 times at your request, and you have not been able to add anything much since your first edit in 2018. The draft has no sources about the subject. There were no changes made after the last restoration more than a year ago. If you know what needs to be done, you can give a description here, otherwise you can ask for help or navigate the Welcome links at your user talk page. Jay 💬 16:53, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I realize the time it has taken. My most recent edit cites 2 Wikipedia sources. I am motivated to finish as this entry is of historical value. It also takes time because Wikipedia is not the easiest platform to use, I set off to find sources and in that time the page is deleted. I believe what needs to be done is I start with a simpler focus for the subject then add to it as I find more sources. I believe that's possible--am I correct? I appreciate Wikipedia editors efforts to maintain its integrity and would appreciate the undeletion of this page so I can finish and publish it. KATianga (talk) 17:23, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If by Wikipedia sources you meant M Street High School and 10th Cavalry Regiment (United States), these articles don't really have anything on Robert Queen, and also WP:Wikipedia is not a reliable source. A waiting period of 6 months before deletion for inactivity is really a limit on the higher side. Unless you are looking for books in a library, an editor would take less than 30 minutes to an hour to come up with at least one online source for a subject. What would your first source be that you can add to the draft? Jay 💬 18:23, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your understanding. Here is one, there would be more: https://www.shankerinstitute.org/blog/lessons-today-landmark-new-jersey-desegregation-case. And yes, a source citing another case would require my visiting the Division of Archives and records management in person to pull microfilm.
I believe what needs to be done is I start with a simpler focus for the subject then add to it as I find more sources. I believe that's possible--am I correct? KATianga (talk) 18:48, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To answer your question.... you may find WP:BACKWARDS helpful. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:08, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This is helpful advice, thank you. My question is around the possibility of publishing then adding more information as I gather it. And what is the status of my undeletion request? KATianga (talk) 22:43, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
How about getting together three references that can pass WP:SIRS first so that you can properly start to work on this. - UtherSRG (talk) 23:21, 25 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Finding that source is a step in the right direction. The source, which is a blog (see WP:BLOGS), may not be accepted as a citation, but it gives an indication that reliable sources may exist, and does help in searching other reliable sources for information present in it. Being a CEO for X number of years means nothing here. Please read WP:42 and WP:SIRS to understand how we implement notability. (Read that link, too.) Basically, notability is not about what you've done, but about what other people have written about you. @Sir Lunchalot: Declined pending further information. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but no edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission. Draft space is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. We may be willing to restore it again, but only if you provide a definite assurance that you actually intend to work on it and provide a short description of what you intend to do to improve it to meet our policies and guidelines. Please advise. UtherSRG (talk) 13:24, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your prompt response. No edits were made to the page as I have been researching some of the issues raised and, unfortunately, work has got in the way. The principal issues with the page as it stood were around citations that did not relate to its own website and I have been seeking help from the UK government, which originally created Proshare, as to where these might be found. Sir Lunchalot (talk) 13:57, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No. That defeats the purpose of keeping it deleted. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:07, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure I understand that, perhaps you could explain? Sir Lunchalot (talk) 10:30, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Draft space is not for the indefinite hosting of material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia; it is for actively working to improve articles to the point where they can pass WP:AFD. If you have no applicable references to add, then you are not ready for draft's purposes. When you do, we will restore the draft. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:37, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK. That was why I asked for the existing text so that I could work on it. Might you be able to restore it long enough for me to copy it and then take it down again ? I'm keen to ensure I don't miss anything in the review. Sir Lunchalot (talk) 13:49, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Richard Nevell: Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shadows at the Door: The Podcast, it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, OwenX (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review.
When you find enough appropriate sources that prove notability, you can ask the closing admin or DRV for restoration. - UtherSRG (talk) 21:02, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He also had a negative career move campaigning for Santa to be rebranded as slim. This was well known in the NYC and Northeast area at the time. We have had his page undeleted, we believe his page may be targeted. —71.187.43.59 (talk) 23:25, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done – this Requests for Undeletion process is only for articles that were deleted uncontroversially, and does not apply to articles deleted after a deletion discussion. Since the article you are here about was deleted after a discussion took place at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Tantillo (2nd nomination), it cannot be undeleted through this process. However, if you believe that the outcome of the discussion did not reflect the consensus of the participants, or that significant new information has come to light since the article was deleted, you may contact the administrator who closed the discussion, Explicit (talk · contribs). After you do so, if your concerns are not addressed and you still seek undeletion, a request may be made at deletion review. – Muboshgu (talk) 23:29, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Korvi Rakshand

According to Wikipedia: Notability (people), The person has received a well-known and significant award or honor, or has been nominated for such an award several times. Korvi received Ramon Magsaysay Award, which is often called the "Nobel Prize of Asia", in 2023. Additionally, according to basic criteria, People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject., Korvi Rakhsand has received significant coverage in Bangladeshi news media which are independent and reliable. So, I think this article should be retrieved. —IqbalHossain (talk) 04:11, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Can you undelete the revisions deleted as G4? @IqbalHossain: meanwhile you may want to work on the Draft:Korvi Rakshand. Jay 💬 07:00, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure. Draft:Korvi Rakshand already exists. The proper response to an article subject that has been deleted through an AFD delete decision is to create a draft version and submit it through WP:AFC. Since there is already an existing draft, I think editors should work with this page instead of having two separate pages on the same subject which is discouraged. I don't have objections to restoring a deleted page and moving it to Draft space but in this case, there is already a draft article to improve. Liz Read! Talk! 07:07, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I concur with Liz. Work on the draft and submit it for review when you have adequate WP:SIRS that demonstrate the subject passes WP:GNG or WP:ANYBIO. - UtherSRG (talk) 11:40, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a handy software tool that I was trying to find more information on. It's free and (I think) open source, but there isn't a lot of information about it online so I tried here. There are literally thousands of similar wikipedia pages for similar software tools that have not been deleted, removing this one but not those makes no sense. —207.136.90.22 (talk) 16:24, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done – this page was deleted as a blatant advertisement under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion and Wikipedia is not to be used as a vehicle for promotion. This does not necessarily mean a suitable article on this topic cannot be created. If it is a notable topic, e.g., multiple reliable, secondary, published sources that are entirely independent of the subject have written about it in substantive detail (not just mere mentions), then a neutrally written article may be possible. This one was written like a commercial. UtherSRG (talk) 17:04, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    How was it an advertisement?
Since it's been deleted I can't read it to know the answer to that question, and since it can't be recreated I can't even make a new one about it.
Your explanation makes no sense to someone who isn't an admin.
"This does not necessarily mean a suitable article on this topic cannot be created"
Except that that's been prohibited, so yeah, it kinda does. 2001:1970:49DB:E900:0:0:0:E156 (talk) 03:20, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    • Done I am reversing the speedy delete, as the deleter has been desysopped and cannot reconsider their action. Looking at the article it is not too promotional, but topic may not be notable. Game of thrones (season 5

Hello; I'm making this request for undeletion of a recently deleted redirect, nominated by me at RfD due to the missing parenthetical, making this an unlikely search term. For the last couple months, I have been pursuing alternatives for deletion for similar titles where appropriate, and only nominating the titles which were sufficiently unused. For the most part, all of this bundle had received between 0-1 pageviews across the month prior, including this title.

What I didn't expect was for this title to jump up to a 640-a-day average viewcount throughout the week (was treated as a regular article due to the RfD notice), basically the same as, and/or barely less than Game of Thrones (season 5) during this time period: [1]. While I could recreate this page myself, I think it'd be more fitting to undelete, and move this without redirect to Game of thrones (season 5), to maintain the original creator of the redirect while still honoring the outcome of the RfD discussion. (I can't believe that link evaded me; didn't expect the discussion-views to be as massive as they were there either...) —Utopes (talk / cont) 20:09, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
