Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Heyitsme22 (talk | contribs) at 23:56, 8 June 2011 (Requesting semi-protection of Super 8 (film). (TW)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

    Current requests for protection

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Temporary Semi-Protection - Heavily trafficked article due to E3. Lots of recent vandalism and outright false edits. Would like to keep the article under control for future advancements towards GAN. --Teancum (talk) 22:39, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated – Deleted on several criterions. Croisés Majestic (sur nous mars) 21:51, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. -FASTILY (TALK) 23:47, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. "Harry Potter should have won" IP vandalism for past few days. Tommyjb Talk! (21:03, 8 June 2011)

    Semi-protected for a month. Acalamari 21:09, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: dispute from Prince Ludwig Rudolph of Hanover (recently locked down) spilt over to this article so request full protection to stop edit war. - dwc lr (talk) 20:16, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Try talking it out. -- DQ (t) (e) 22:07, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – This page might as well be preserved for posterity, but a certain dynamic IP vandal refuses to do something more productive with his life and insists on massive vandalism whenever protection is lifted. Xenon54 (talk) 19:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protected. Courcelles 22:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection. A ridiculous amount of vandalism in the last three hours. Administrative action urgently required. Playing it safe, this is the last clean version. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 18:50, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected by Anetode (talk · contribs) for one week per request at ANI. Jenks24 (talk) 19:43, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. IP user vandalized twice. Many more vandalism incidents. Rishabh Tatiraju (talk) 18:44, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. GedUK  20:01, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary protection requested to stop edit war between uncommunicative editors. Blocks for the two edit warriors and semi-protection to prevent unregistered editors from continuing their involvement might also be effective. ElKevbo (talk) 18:41, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Now the edit war is continuing unabated the second option - blocking User:Anjio1234 and User:ColumbiaAlumnus for edit warring and semi-protecting the article - seems a much better way to go. ElKevbo (talk) 18:54, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    Semi-protected 24 hours, and both editors blocked. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 19:18, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Here we go again, IP has removed season three with that edit to the article. And it will be indefinitely semi-protected if the IPs removes season three again. Ring2011 (talk) 17:30, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  19:59, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect. High level of IP vandalism and BLP problems. TM 16:07, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  19:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full-protection. I always update the weekly results in this article but the page is always vandalized by registered and unregistered users. As well as this pages: M! Countdown and The Music Trend. diRk dARyL 15:14, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. GedUK  19:55, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Content dispute/edit warring – This page has been the subject of many disputes and edit wars. I have seen the page brought up on ANI and on User talk pages. I believe full protection of this page would force editors to discuss on the talk page and come to consensus. Ryan Vesey (talk) 15:09, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. -FASTILY (TALK) 23:52, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Full or semi-protection: Part of Royal family and recent spew of IP vandalism, resulting at least one edit war. Rusted AutoParts (talk) 12:21 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Declined, The IP's been warned; if they carry on, report them at 3RRN GedUK  19:53, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

    Fulfilled/denied requests

Semi-protection. Spate of vandalism from a /24 school IP range. Alan the Roving Ambassador (talk) 16:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Dabomb87 (talk) 17:14, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect for six months. I previously requested page protection for this and many of the below listed articles back in late February of this year. This request was granted [2] for a period of one month. I am now requesting six months, as the behavior has continued since the protection expired, and the IP continues to dance with no hope of communication. The modus operandi is for the editor to use an IP to make one edit, restoring non-free logos as icons and/or non-free images used in violation of WP:NFCC #10c (example). All IPs track to Rome. Are these open proxies? 79.24.129.41 and 95.236.139.114 are two example IPs.

Semi-protected for a period of three months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. AlexiusHoratius 17:48, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – While he may be in contract negotiations with S.S Lazio - he has not signed. However, constant vandals keep changing his Userbox to S.S Lazio, without sources. I suggest this be in untill he either signs or negotiations fizzle out. Should be no more then a Week from all reports. . Nath1991 (talk) 14:14, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Dabomb87 (talk) 14:57, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite full protection: Inappropriate use of user talk page while blocked. UAL55 (talk) 11:51, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – User talk pages are not protected except in response to severe or continued vandalism.. I see no edits to the user talk nor userpage that indicate this problem. Did you perhaps link the wrong page? Syrthiss (talk) 11:56, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. doomgaze (talk) 11:36, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. GedUK  12:39, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
