Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by TheMightyPeanut (talk | contribs) at 12:32, 1 November 2019 (→‎Current requests for increase in protection level). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Indefinite extended confirmed: Persistent vandalism – Persistent Vandalism + New editors are prohibited to edit Arab-Israel conflict-related pages. Dinan8 (talk) 19:42, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected., the article is broadly construed to ARBPIA, not reasonably construed, and the current practice (which can change after the current arbitration case has been concluded) is not to protect such articles with a reference to ARBPIA.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:32, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Going through Reddit, seems as if YouTube TV leaked an episode early, forgetting about the World Series last night and that it preempted a new episode of TMS. (Example post 1, example post 2): the leaked episode doesn't actually air until November 6, so would love page protection before anyone does possibly starting putting spoilers in. Magitroopa (talk) 19:48, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Just getting a lot of activity and anons are breaking the page. Jorm (talk) 19:58, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

For more information, the individual is a politician and has been recently hospitalized, and people are (incorrectly) adding death dates and the like because they do not like him.--Jorm (talk) 20:00, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:34, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection until November 10, 2019 Persistent constant unapproved name change. Regice2020 (talk) 20:11, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent addition of unsourced content. Crboyer (talk) 20:13, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Constant removal of sourced content. Lard Almighty (talk) 21:03, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:36, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – High level of recent vandalism. Clovermoss (talk) 21:10, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined This should die down now. Lectonar (talk) 09:08, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

April Fools' Day (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Pending changes protection: This article gets vandalized frequently throughout the year and could greatly benefit from pending changes protection. Clovermoss (talk) 21:20, 31 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Declined Not that frequently....we usually protect around April 1st. Lectonar (talk) 09:06, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed: Persistent sockpuppetry – Target of block evading sockpuppets and IPs who include cite spam to the work Semyon Adlaj. See Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive1020#Please_restore_the_stable_version_of_MacCullagh_ellipsoid_and_Galois_axis, Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Sandro78/Archive and Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/FeelUs/Archive. MrOllie (talk) 00:02, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing. - FlightTime (open channel) 00:47, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: front page (3 days). Dibbydib 💬/ 01:36, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DeclinedPages are not protected preemptively. No disruption until now. Lectonar (talk) 09:04, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 02:21, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. -- BullRangifer (talk) 05:58, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent changes in building height without providing reliable source. Robynthehode (talk) 11:04, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent changes in building height without providing reliable source. Robynthehode (talk) 11:05, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent changes in building height without providing reliable source. Robynthehode (talk) 11:09, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary pending changes: Persistent disruptive editing – Has history of reverting on WKON. CentralTime301 (talk, contribs) 11:39, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Some recent IP vandalism on this page. TheMightyPeanut (talk) 12:32, 1 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: The aren’t really anymore sockpuppets nor sockpuppeteers to vandalize this page. Minecraft6532 (talk) 23:14, 27 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    How do you know? -- Malcolmxl5 (talk) 00:12, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    That's because it's protected –TheWikiToby (talk) 00:49, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Semi-protected (formerly extended-confirmed protected). You should be able to edit the article. If disruption resumes request an increase in the protection level. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:18, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: That page is almost never touched. The editors seemed to have learned their lesson. 71.14.243.235 (talk) 03:38, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected – Please use an edit request to request specific changes to be made to the protected page. Given the lengthy protection history and the recent sockpuppetry reverts, there's a case to be made for increasing the protection level. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:24, 28 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    /i18n modules

    Module:Infobox/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Module:Message box/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Module:Side box/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

    Module:Separated entries/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

    Module:InfoboxImage/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
    Module:Math/i18n (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Unprotection These modules no longer need to be salted now that Module:Wikidata no longer attempts to load a /i18n submodule and the bug in Scribunto that led to these modules being loaded in the first place has been fixed. * Pppery * it has begun... 02:37, 29 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
