Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 86.164.169.96 (talk) at 16:13, 13 October 2020 (→‎Pager). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. & Being only with a few impossible edits — Preceding unsigned comment added by I love soda (talkcontribs) 18:24, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Wug·a·po·des 01:35, 11 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP editors making unsourced changes and refusing to discuss on Talk page. Joeyconnick (talk) 05:35, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Semi-protection: Persistent IP vandalism. Ashleyyoursmile! 05:41, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – IP editors editing against consensus and refusing to discuss on Talk page. Joeyconnick (talk) 05:42, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Dubious account of 2 edits removing cited content. Beshogur (talk) 10:35, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    • Non-admin comment Beshogur, I see there are more likely a content dispute/edit warring in the article because one user reverting their edits based on sourced content, so IMO temporary full protection would be necessary until consensus reach on talk page. 36.68.193.87 (talk) 10:44, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Page is current target of the Cutler LTA who add unsourced and often defamatory / WP:FRINGE material to articles. Ravensfire (talk) 16:18, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The edit war over Taiwan's status has resumed. O.N.R. (talk) 19:44, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive IP edits. NedFausa (talk) 01:31, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary full protection: Could an administrator please look at recent edits by Nikkimaria on this article. There is a discussion on the talk where this user is arguing one way and two of us are arguing the other way. This user persists in trying to get his own way. I am a former administrator and my judgement is that his edit should be reverted and the page protected. It certainly needs new eyes looking at it. --Bduke (talk) 02:34, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Preferred version: [1]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequent vandalism. Matt Deres (talk) 02:52, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Indefinite Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. .👨🏻‍🎨 💠245CMR💠.👥📜 02:57, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Just read the edit summaries from the two red-linked usernames from the past few days. Talk of Zionist Jews and the user's own penis is just some of it. Crossroads -talk- 03:03, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent silly and non-constructive edits since June, apparently made by denizens of Twitch. Quale (talk) 07:17, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Semi-protection: This individual has recently been implicated in a scandal and as a result the original bio photo has been replaced with a still from an exposé documentary. The page is likely to be subject to further modifications based on the revelations. The media has even commented on the new photo appearing in the bio. Clucky192 (talk) 07:50, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – some podcast spam from various IP addresses. Jklamo (talk) 08:56, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing and vandaism. Rhinen (talk) 09:04, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism. manchurian candidate 09:11, 13 October 2020 (UTC) 2409:4060:2007:5732:0:0:13AD:8A1

    Semi-protection: Persistent unconstructive IP edits. KyleJoantalk 10:44, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary extended protection: Content Dispute/Edit Warring. Prolix 💬 10:49, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – I had my old messages archived a week ago and the Tom and Jerry vandal keeps bringing them back. FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 11:59, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection: BLP experiencing persistent IP vandalism. This is most recently evident today but is part of a similar pattern of behaviour by IPs that has been going on for months. Richard Nevell (talk) 12:48, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – There has been a sudden surge in IP's editing the article to add BLP violations. Koncorde (talk) 13:32, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CLCStudent (talk) 13:38, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked. Both Didnt ask and 50.228.222.225. Favonian (talk) 16:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – As prevention from trolls, this disambiguation page will be semi-protected permanently. The Houndsworth (talk) 13:43, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected by administrator Drmies. Indef is premature. Favonian (talk) 15:54, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: High level of IP vandalism as well as IP edit warring. D🐶ggy54321 (let's chat!) 13:48, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent vandalism – Repeated unsourced changes. Rathfelder (talk) 13:49, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note: that it was Rathfelder himself that was adding the unsourced material. This request is solely a shabby attempt at stopping those who were removing the unsourced change. However, I have now sourced it so Rathfelder's edit warring should now be at an end. 86.164.169.96 (talk) 13:59, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It should be made clear that three editors were involved, but I was not edit warring as I only made one revert of the unsourced material (once you ignore the second revert which I immediately reversed with the missing supporting reference). 86.164.169.96 (talk) 16:13, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CLCStudent (talk) 13:54, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing by IPs. Rosalina2427 (talk) 14:22, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I second this request, just came to request the same page. - Galatz גאליץשיחה Talk 14:30, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content – Content that is subtly different from the source material, when any sources are cited at all. Vanamonde (Talk) 15:08, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Full protection: Edit war involving multiple users on the infobox image. 219.78.190.231 (talk) 15:09, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Ongoing edit war over whether to include potentially UNDUE and BLP violating information. Gbear605 (talk) 16:00, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. CLCStudent (talk) 16:01, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent edit warring by Gojo Bonito, user is continuing his edit warring after the article recently became unprotected. TheDeviantPro (talk) 16:02, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    User(s) blocked.--Ymblanter (talk) 16:11, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: No longer needed, despite this being recent, the protection dates from a preventive protection in 2017, and should not be protected. Since preventive protection is not allowed. Protoeus (talk) 21:06, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Protoeus: The only way this protection can be lifted is to appeal the general sanctions regime. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 21:08, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Protoeus: You also should not be editing in this topic area per said general sanctions, full stop. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 21:10, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I tried to apply Prime Minister of the State of Palestine for this protection, and they declined, and I said, if that cannot be protected, why this is protected if both are in literally the same topic. Protoeus (talk) 21:12, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
    @Jéské Couriano: look above message. Protoeus (talk) 21:14, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Protoeus: Because the PMotSoP is not, by default, part of the Arab-Israeli conflict, which is what the General Sanctions focus on. Ismail Haniyeh is. —Jéské Couriano v^_^v threads critiques 21:22, 4 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Declined Has been explained succinctly. Lectonar (talk) 08:54, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended Confirmed move protection: Can someone reduce the move protection level from full to extended confirmed per https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=move&user=&page=Gordon+Ramsay&wpdate=&tagfilter=&subtype= What is the point of leaving full protection when this page has not been moved once, I see this does not make sense. --94.73.36.20 (talk) 18:16, 7 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Connormah I'm not sure why an IP would need the move protection lowered, but you are the one who in 2015 applied the move protection from auto confirmed to sysop. I changed the edit protection to full back in 2016. — Maile (talk) 10:37, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    — Maile Why did you do change the move protection level to full? This request is only for reducing move level protection to Extended Confirmed. --37.29.128.151 (talk) 16:11, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I did not change the move protection. Connormah changed it to indefinitely "[move=sysop] (indefinite)" in 2015, which is the same thing as full move protection. I changed the edit protection in 2016 to auto-confirmed, per a request on this page. I guess the template wording changed before then, because it said "[Move=Require administrator access]". Sysops are admins. No one has made changes since 2016. — Maile (talk) 16:28, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    I will bring Connormah over here. --94.73.37.114 (talk) 17:12, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

IP, why do you want the protection reduced? Do you intend to move the page with an account? --Malcolmxl5 (talk) 18:02, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It doesn't make sense to leave full protection when this page doesn't have a single move log entry. I do not intend on moving it with any account at all. Full move protection should be for persistent vandalistic moves by Extended Confirmed Users in my opinion. --94.73.37.114 (talk) 18:21, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    Us? (CC) Tbhotch 18:44, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Not you registered editors, only the IP editors. --94.73.37.114 (talk) 19:25, 9 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Sandboxes should not be protected. * Pppery * it has begun... 15:28, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

    This is a template. --94.73.37.114 (talk) 19:58, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: Per discussion with the protecting admin at User talk:BD2412#K. Surendran, I am requested an uninvolved administrator review Draft:K. Surendran (politician) and determine whether to unsalt K. Surendran (politician) and accept it or if the issues brought up at AfD and DRV have not been fully resolved yet. Nathan2055talk - contribs 20:45, 12 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Note: A request for unprotection is not the right venue to have an article reviewed, imho. Once the draft is accepted, the article title is easy enough to unprotect, but it won't be unprotected unless the draft is accepted. Lectonar (talk) 11:53, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection: The iPhone is expected to be announced in a few hours (1 PM E.T.). Thanoscar21talk, contribs 14:12, 13 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Please add Paul Fincham, composer Tkmbartley (talk) 11:53, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Why not add it yourself? The page is not protected. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, then request on the talk page, not here. ~Anachronist (talk) 11:59, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Create a level 3 header with a link to the article in question, then a {{pagelinks}} template and then the reason.
