Seeso is an over-the-top subscription streaming service owned by Comcast through NBCUniversal,[1][2] launched on 7 January 2016. It provides comedy content such as original and broadcast television shows.
History
On 2 December 2014, entrepreneur Evan Shapiro joined NBCUniversal as the Executive Vice President of the newly-formed NBCUniversal Digital Enterprises division of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group after his job from Pivot[3] to work on a digital project for the division.
On 15 October 2015, Seeso was officially announced with certain titles in it's library.[4] 3 December, Seeso was launched in an open beta that lasted from 3 December 2015 towards 6 January 2016.[5] Seeso was officially launched the day after.[6]
On 30 September, Seeso announced its first event called the "Stand-Up Streaming Fest", in which a title of comedy content will become available within a week, bringing a total of 12 specials for 12 weeks.[7]
Content
Seeso offers comedy shows, including Saturday Night Live, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Office (UK), Parks and Recreation, The Kids in the Hall and Monty Python.
In addition to licensed content, Seeso also releases original programming including comedy sketch series The UCB Show (featuring Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh), the animated/live-action comedy series HarmonQuest about the world of fantasy role-playing (read: Pathfinder or Dungeons & Dragons) from the creator of Community and Rick and Morty, the reality-satire Bajillion Dollar Propertie$, The Cyanide & Happiness Show[8] and a stand up series called Night Train with Wyatt Cenac.[1]
