DYK for Museum of French Art[edit]

On 31 May 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Museum of French Art, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Museum of French Art once exhibited Napoleon's penis? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Museum of French Art. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Museum of French Art), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sixth borough[edit]

Hi, Pharos. Long time no see. Hope you're doing well. I noticed you made some additions to Sixth borough, some of which was indeed supported by the cited New York Times article (like the "Lower Lower Manhattan" bit), but the mention of T. Kennard Thomson was not, so I reverted it. I tried searching through that NYT article, and couldn't find mention of him, nor was he mentioned anywhere else in the Wikipedia article. possible identity theft?[edit]

@Pharos: I was unable to log into WikiConference:2021/Main Page as User:DavidMCEddy a few minutes ago. I've been "User:DavidMCEddy" since 2010-03-26 in many Wikimedia Foundation projects. I tried to reset my password for WikiConference:User:DavidMCEddy and couldn't. So I registered WikiConference:User:LauraEckenberg. It accepted that.

I'm writing you, because if someone else is actually using WikiConference:User:DavidMCEddy, I would consider it identity theft. It's probably just something silly in the User ID management in WikiConference North America. However, I felt a need to ask about it.

Thanks for all you do to try to increase access to the sum of all human knowledge. DavidMCEddy (talk) 17:58, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The system would not let me vote[edit]

Per your request, "This is the last day to vote", I reviewed and ranked the 72 candidates I found with statement. In trying to enter my ranks, I could not find some of the candidates on the list. After ranking roughly half of them, I tried to submit my votes. It said I had to log in to vote. I tried to log in using my usual login. It did not accept that. Then it said, "You do not need to be logged in to vote."

If the number of votes seem reasonable and there are few complaints like this, please ignore. Otherwise, I will testify that (a) the voting system was very hard to use, and (b) it seemed not to accept my vote. DavidMCEddy (talk) 01:33, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:05, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

I think you created this article that I wanted to propose for deletion. Of course, I'm open minded to alternative opinions and will remove the proposed deletion if there is not consensus. What do you think?

You might also notice I deleted some weak newer citations that were added since you created the article some years ago.

Look, I don't usually like being on lists of things. I get too much spam from Chuck Schumer and other people I never signed up for. But the spam I got today was confusing and random, and I'm so glad that I got the same random message as everyone else. Here's to talking about it at the next Wiknic. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:22, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.--MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 16:58, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation, Wikimedia Public Policy monthly call, July 1 @ 16h EST[edit]

Hey @Pharos, my time to invite you to a call! The Global Advocacy team is launching their monthly conversation hours and we would love to have you join. The call is on July 1 at 16h EST. All information you need to participate is on this Meta page [1].

The agenda is split between a dedicated theme for the month and whatever items you wish to cover. This month we will share some of our work on disinformation. There is no set agenda for the second half of the call - feel free to add your item to the list of topics in the etherpad [2]. Come and talk to us! Ask us anything, or tell us anything, related to public policy and advocacy initiatives for free knowledge online. For example: You want to learn more about our team and our current initiatives You would like to share a policy development or advocacy campaign idea and would like to get feedback or support You have questions about a specific WMF policy priority or development

Hope to see you there.--FPutz (WMF) (talk) 14:03, 7 June 2022 (UTC) ___ [1] https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Public_policy/Conversation_hours_and_Events#Upcoming_Conversation_Hours [2] https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/Agenda_%26_Notes%2C_Global_Advocacy_Conversation_Hours[reply]

hi. @FPutz (WMF): could I please join this call as well? this sounds highly valuable. thanks! --Sm8900 (talk) 16:30, 7 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Of course! I know you posted somewhere else and am sorry you had to chase me. This is an open invitation so please feel free to pass on to anyone else. We will host these regularly on a monthly basis as part of a pilot to improve how we share learnings and priorities and hear about yours. FPutz (WMF) (talk) 09:32, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Help organizing edit-a-thons in Kansas City[edit]

@Pharos: Thanks for your many valuable contributions to Wikimedia Foundation projects.

I want to organize Wikidata edit-a-thons in the Kansas City (KC) metro area to make it easy to create and maintain local directories of different things. I'm involved with two different groups that want to do things, for which I think this is part of a in ideal solution: For directories of (a) local news sources and (b) organizations in the greater KC metro area concerned with peace, justice, environment, and human rights.

Secondarily, I'm currently the primary content producer for Radio Active Magazine, Presenter: Bob Grove, KKFI, Wikidata Q57451712{{citation}}: CS1 maint: others (link), a half-hour weekly show on a local affiliate of the Pacifica radio network of community radio stations.

I've done the following with zero responses so far:

Ziski Putz suggested I ask you, because you've done similar things in NYC and helped organize the recent WikiConference North America (Thanks!). (You may remember me: I'm Spencer Graves. I've met you at previous WMF conferences.)

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, DavidMCEddy (talk) 14:42, 18 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'd welcome you to participate in our US / North America calls this months, tonight and Monday night of next week: meta:WALRUS/December 2022. In addition, I can set up some time to confer with you one-on-one and share some wiki-outreach tips. Pharos (talk) 21:07, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:26, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Happy holidays![edit]

Happy New Year!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Pharos!

The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 18:36, 22 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
