Tirhut division is an administrative geographical unit of Bihar state of India. Muzaffarpur is the administrative headquarters of the division. Currently (2005), the division consists of West Champaran, also called Bettiah district; East Champaran, also called Motihari district; Muzaffarpur district; Sitamarhi district; Sheohar district; Vaishali district, headquartered at Hajipur .

The administrative head of Tirhut division is a Commissioner who is a senior rank officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The present Commissioner of Tirhut division is SM Raju who is a 1991 batch IAS Officer. Waris Ali, Khudi Ram Bose, Bhagwan Das, Juba Sahni, Raj Kumar Shukla, Ramdaylu Singh, Mathura Singh, Binda babu, Dr.Maghfoor Ahmad Ajazi, Manzoor Ahsan Ajazi, Shafi Daudi, Mahesh Babu, were the veteran freedom fighters of this Division. Mahatma Gandhi started struggle for independence from this division, i.e. Champaran. It was the karam bhumi of Dr. Rajendra Pd, Acharya J.B Kripalani and Jai Prakash Narayan.
